Another movie based on lego. Just like the lego movie. And the lego batman movie. This one is based on a lego range called Lego Ninjago, which has a group of high school students who are also ninjas defending their city from attack. This is a slightly different take on the idea and the characters, so is a stand alone production and has no connection - aside from the name and idea - with the tv cartoon show of the same name. Which does though mean that you can get into this without having watched that.It begins with live action, as a boy fleeing bullies finds a strange shop. And a wise and inscrutable shopkeeper [Jackie Chan] who tells him a story...In Lego Ninjago city, the place is under constant attack the forces of Lord Garmadon, who is trying to take it over. High school student Lloyd who lives there just happens to be Lord Garmadon's son. Not that said Lord is aware of it. Although all the people are. And Lloyd bears the stick he gets as a result with good grace. Not least because he is also one of the team of ninjas who control giant robots that are the only line of defence. All Lloyd wants is for his father to be a proper dad to him. Both of them have a lot to learn...So long as you don't mind this being different from the tv show, then this is a fun and colourful enough film to keep the kids quiet. For grown ups who enjoyed the other two Lego movies, you will have read reviews which said this wasn't on a par with them. But it's actually better than those said. It doesn't quite reach the heights of those two films - hence the four star review - because whilst Lloyd is a strong and likeable character, and Jackie Chan in his two roles does manage some good comedy, all but one of the other supporting characters are rather one note creations. Also whilst it does take Lloyd and his dad on a good character journey, it does get a bit too syrupy at a point. But for the bulk of it, this does have the same sharp visual and verbal humour - and watch the film titles in the ninja montage as they are brilliant if you know the genre - that made those two something the adults could love as well. So not quite on a par with them. But definitely worth four stars. It is a fun watch. There is an outtake in the middle of the end credits, which shows Jackie Chan's dexterity. So keep watching for it.The dvd has the usual flyer with code for downloading a copy of it onto a digital device. It begins with a video game trailer once loaded, which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote.Only extras are three deleted scenes. Which can be watched individually or all in a row. They all have an introduction from the director. They run three two and two minutes respectively. They're all funny. And worth a watch.

Having read negative reviews and listened to Mark Kermode say how it is just not as good as the other LEGO movies I gave it a try with my 8 year old son. And came out of the cinema pleased I did. People complain it is not like the series, but does that matter? We never watched the series, prefer Mr Bean, Scooby Doo and Danger Mouse cartoons instead.. And perhaps that is why I liked it, it is fun, silly with stupid jokes. It made us both laugh. And is so good on a BIG screen. Plus there is the fact that the bad guy likes being bad, too many times bad guys are bad because they're confused or maltreated, instead enjoy the 'black' humour. And think just how much better LEGO is now, back in the day all I could build were terribly boring houses and useless rockets.

Six Lego near Ninjas that act more like Power Rangers must protect their city against the constant attacks of Evil Lord Garmadon. Lloyd, the Green Ninja is Garmadon's son who everyone avoids like the plague except his fellow Ninjas.Yes the plot had that "Darth Vader, I am your son" moment. The Ultimate Weapon was cute. The film either imitated or spoofed similar type of films and as always, Jackie Chan was great, even as a Lego. I never thought I would enjoy a stupid Lego film for children, but the dialogue made it for me especially those off the wall remarks that went unanswered..."What does it begin with?" gave me a good laugh. The film can be enjoyed by kids not yet in school to retired seniors like myself. The kid in me loved it.

In the city of Ninjago, the son of a warlord defends the city from attacks by his evil father. 3rd in the Lego movie franchise that completely ignores events in The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie. It's not as good as those first two movies but it is a silly, funny and often surreal film with a live action seqeunce at the start and finish of the movie starring Jackie Chan who also doubles as the voice of one of the characters as an antiques shop owner and scenes with a live action cat and spoofs martial arts films. Decent animation with decent voice over work from Dave Franco, Jackie Chan, Justin Thereoux and Michael Pena and decent action as a group of ninjas take on the evil Lord Garmadonand one happens to be Garmadon's son.

I love the Ninjago Series, as does my 5 year old son. So I waited with anticipation for this on his birthday. It's nothing like the series, nothing whatsoever. Once you get over that fact and look at it as a movie in it's own right, it all works really well. So I could go on about the lack of characterisation of Cole, Jay, Zane, Nia and even Kai and the fact that they say ten words between them for the whole film - instead you get to see a stunning looking, funny, fast paced Lego bonanza that is massively worth a tenner. We will definitely be buying this when it comes out.

We watched this film at the cinema with our little boy. I went in thinking it was going to be “meh” but, oh my days, I absolutely loved it, my husband loved it and our son did! I thought it was great for kids but also the dialog was still funny for adults!Justin Theroux as Garmaddon was just brilliant and also Dave Franco was outstanding!! We liked it so much we are going to be naming our puppy L-loyd. I’d definitely recommend this movie!

Somehow the Lego movies are excellent entertainment so it this movie. Strong voice acting and great humour.Albeit a little of the surprise from the first big Lego movie is gone and this one more aimed at kids than the previous two - then again the youngest viewers might get lost on the plot. .

Overall a good family film. Completely different from the original Lego movie and Batman in that this one is purely aimed at children, there are no real adult aimed gags. Anyway my wife and I enjoyed it but not as much as our 3 year old did, he thinks it’s great!

I really enjoyed Lego ninjago when I went to see this at the cinema at the weekend. Went with my son and my sister and her kids. Really colourful and plenty of action. I even have the game on ps4 and switch. Can't wait till it comes out on dvd

Saw this movie because I loved the previous LEGO movies and I love the series, and yes it’s nothing like the series but that’s not necessarily a bad thing because if it were the same as the series then what would be the point.

Not as good as Lego Batman IMO. Fine in 2D contrary to popular belief... Glad 3D is on its way out as you lose colour and definition in the film and you have to wear stupid glasses.

Best lego film yet my little boy and I loved it at the cinema and can’t recommend it highly enough lots of trademark humour and fast packed action with the standard manic lego feel

Really quite okay. As usual, seems the critics are on another planet. I mean my kids enjoyed this and I thought it was very bearable and I couldn’t stomach the Batman one.

Purchased for my son, who was very happy to receive this. He loves this movie, and a little bit of humour for adults.

Never really watched ninjago, only built the lego sets for my son. Movie is a good laugh and very well animated.
