On the occasion of her seventh birthday my eldest was really pleased to receive this Lego City horse box and 4 by 4 to add to her growing collection of models. It's a smallish model, made up of 176 pieces in all, and in our experience fun to construct and with a great deal of play value once it has been made. The set comes in two bags, the first contains the vehicle and horse and two figures, and the second all you need to make the trailer. Aimed at the 5-12 age group, I found that my daughter needed next to no help to make the set, the car took her slightly longer to build as it was nearly 30 steps long, but the trailer was quite a quick build. You could build the items in two sittings if need be,but I found my daughter had made both in about half an hour; she's fairly used to following Lego instructions, and these ones were straightforward and clear, as we have come to expect from Lego. She did struggle a little with some of the finer detail of the car, which is quite realistic and has wing mirrors and very realistic lights, these particular pieces were quite small and fiddly but extra seem to have been provided in the set should any go astray. As well as the vehicle and trailer, the set contains two figures, one rider and what I assume is a groom, to drive the car. The detail on the horse is quite pleasing; you can add and remove a saddle to him into which the little hard-hatted figure sits comfortably. It's a bit of a shame that the car doesn't have opening and closing doors (you have to put the driver in the car via the roof which is a bit tricky to remove and replace) as the rest of the set has been well designed for play after construction. Apart from the rider being able to ride the horse realistically there's also a fence included to jump and the horse fits nicely into the trailer. There's not an actual seat in the car for the rider, just the driver but this doesn't seem to worry my daughter who has been happy to build extra jumps for the horse and wheel the whole thing around. The car fits well to the trailer via a ball joint - the whole thing once built is solid and holds together well.Lego purists may not like the fact that the trailer walls are made of rather big pieces, but it's nice to have a set that isn't a garish colour and which looks quite realistic. I quite like the fact that this is a compact item which is in scale with other items in the range - you should be aware though that it's a lot smaller than it looks on the picture, the car is under 10 cm long and about 7 cm high.As I said earlier this set was actually a gift - it seems to vary in price from around the £12 to the £25 mark - at the lower price it is, in my opinion, good value and it was certainly a great gift! I should think this would appeal to girls and boys alike, it's fun to build and great to play with once it has been made. Recommended.

I think the Lego Farm range is becoming a firm favourite of mine... This lovely little set again represents Lego's return to form, touching on a long neglected theme (remember the Riding School..?). For your money, you get two chirpy mini-figures (scruffy trainer and posh bird in jodpurs and riding hat!)and a smashing brown horse. There's also a bit of fencing included for hanging the saddle over, or performing your own jumps with! The vehicle is a great interpretation of that most beloved of Chelsea Tractors, the Range Rover. The sharp black and red colourscheme is excellent, and I love the wing mirrors and roofrack! There's limited seating inside though (just one for the driver),and a missed opportunity under the bonnet where there's a gaping hole where the engine should be! Two grey cones and a couple of flat black round bricks would have just finished this off nicely, but its not a major concern, as its not the major focal point of the set. Likewise, I'm puzzled by the huge gaps under the windscreens on most of the current Lego vehicles. Surely the addition of a couple of extra bricks wont affect the price point overmuch..?Anyway, back to the set! The trailer is great, acurately mimicking the real thing, with roof mounted light and tailgate that can be easily raised and lowered. There's plenty of room for the horse too! There's the usual set of decals with which to dress the vehicle and trailer, but it looks sharp enough without them, truth be told.Overall, a cracking little set and pleasing to see Lego expanding their horizons!Any chance of a farmhouse with some chickens..?

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter as she has just started to play with Lego and I thought that this kit would trigger her imagination. It did as she enjoys giving horse and rider adventures and she tells the story as she plays.I have had to rebuild the horse box several times for her but then that's lego! The Range Rover has become a cabrioulet as she wants the roof off so that she get the driver in and out! This is a bit complex for a five year old to build but that's OK as Dad enjoyed building it for her!

I bought two of these sets, one for my 5 year old daughter and one for my 7 year old daughter. They both love them! They found them easy to build and have now built a stable to go with it.From my point of view this set is well thought out and stills fit on the classic road layouts without looking too big. The 4X4 interior is easy to access as the roof just lifts off, so you can seat the figures no problem. This is LEgo back to it's best.

The horse and trailer is agreat addition to the city range and has the usual small details that make them fun to play with. My grandson is four years of age and helped to put the set together and then spent a long time playing with the horse and the 4x4.A very unusual set and quite hard to find but well worth the money.

My daughter enjoys this toy, the only problem is that there is only one seat at the front for the driver, prefer to have two seats so that the rider and helper can sit together as at the moment the rider rides on the roof of the landrover

We got this one for our daughter on xmas day. Both her and daddy spent some time together building it. It teachers her to follow plans and instructions as well as providing hours of fun when used her other horse themed Lego sets.

I ordered this for my daughter who loves horses. The 4WD vehicle looks great when you've finished it. Anyone who loves Lego will appreciate this and it's a great gift for the girls among us who love Lego too!

This proved to be an excellent choice of present for my seven-year-old grand-daughter. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

This is fun to make for the intended age group and provides fun after - as usual you can trust lego to make a fun creative toy.

This was as expected but the trailer tends to snap apart easily and is hard for my 4 year old to put back together on his own.
