Lagavulin 16 is beyond my normal whisky budget but I had to try a bottle and see if it lives up to the hype. I bought a bottle before Christmas when the price dropped a little and managed to hold off for four months before sampling this Isaly whisky. The simple answer is yes the hype is justified and Ron Swanson (Parks & Rec) knows what he is talking about. What surprised me was not the peaty flavour - you know that's coming - but the sweetness, nuttiness and elegant delivery of that wonderful, peaty, smokey flavour. Not in your face medicinal TCP/Germolene delivery like Laphroaig but smooth and delicate. For me it will always have to be a treat at this price point but it will be on my wish list, gift suggestions and any other way I can justify a bottle as it is sublime. I've not tried any Ardbeg but the Caol Ila 12 is the closest in comparison to this but it likes the finesse of the Lagavulin 16. If you like peaty whisky and deserve a treat, this is the one.

Drank a whole range of whisky over my short existence and the time im "legally" allowed to drink (and a tad bit before) and I have never enjoyed a really smoky whisky, well I tried bowmore and it put me off smoky flavors. Now this is just a perfectly beautiful whisky and completely different from any I've ever had which adds to the beauty. Simple classic elegant bottle which is definitely a pro as the new weird shaped bottles are not appealing to me one bit and it has a wooden top which I love on a bottle. Mr Ron Swanson from parks and rec perfectly sums this whisky as "Gods elixir" on which i would agree. Good to just drink and great as a gift, plus price value for a 16 year old whisky is excellent.I normally enjoy Glenfiddich but this is my new favorite yet is completely different.

After some 18 months of exploring the world of single malt whisky thanks to a bottle of Tamnavulin gifted to me on my birthday, trying some of the more well known brands (Highland Park, Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Bowmore ect) I had always had my eye on this especially as it is the favourite of online reviewer Horst and after seeing all the positive reviews, so when Amazon reduced the price to £39 I knew it was time that I tried, and so pleased I did, so smooth, sweetness and peatsmoke all in perfect harmony to make it a lovely drinking experience. Not normally the price I can afford but for a special treat it takes some beating

This deserves all the praise it gets. I'm on my second bottle of this stuff and it's incredible. An absolute classic Islay malt, and the first smoky-peaty whisky I got the taste for. It's the balance of flavours that does it for me. On the nose it's bonfire night, honeycomb toffee and BBQ smoke. Then on the palate you get big flavours of orange zest/marmalade, salted caramel, cinnamon, toffee. Then it's a long, iodine-rich finish with just a touch of briny saltiness that braces your mouth for the next drop. Honestly this has got to be a staple of every drinks cupboard. You'll buy this and wish you'd tried it sooner!

I'm generally a Kilkerran and Redbreast Lustau fan, mixed with the likes of Edradour, Clynelish & Powers Johns Lane etc etc. So decided to take a punt on this and only went for the 20cl first as I'm not familiar with Islay whiskey's.Well well well, now got a 70cl btl too and I'm well into it. The Whiskey for me personally is absolutely fantastic. The smoky flavour isn't overpowering at all and the flavours all compliment each other really well into a beautiful enjoyable easy sipper.Surprisingly this is now my favourite whiskey and I'll certainly be reordering soon. I'm intrigued to try other Islays too.

I loved the taste of Lagavulin from the moment I tried it several years ago. It gives you this warm, comforting feeling something akin sitting next to a fireplace in the winter. To me, the smokey peat flavour is very tasty and interesting, it is full-bodied and the bite comes at the end of a sip. The taste lingers for a while which is pretty great. This is a drink you enjoy slowly and in small quantities, excellent as a gift or to offer to your house guests. The drink and bottle just radiate elegance and prestige. It may be a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it since it can last you a while.

Over the last decade or so I have probably finished off litres of this stuff! If you don't like smoky flavours this is not for you, however if you do you are in for a treat. It is smoky, tar, really big on taste and everyone in your vicinity is going to know what you are drinking! I have tried many whiskeys over the years but this for me is absolutely the best and absolutely my benchmark to compare to. If you were just getting into enjoying a good single malt I would highly recommend you give this a go, it was one of the first I ever tried and has pretty much been my go to ever since!

Do you like smokey whiskey? If the answer is no then you will hate this. A lot of the negative reviews on here are from people who clearly don't like smokey whiskey. When you smell Lagavulin 16 you get a lot of smoke. Whiskey connoisseurs can apparently pick out creamy vanilla but I think they lie. The initial smokey hit subsides and you have lots of wonderful complex tastes. This is one of the benchmark Islay whiskeys - it is not cheap, but compared to a lot of other £50 bottles it is of higher quality. This would always be my go to whiskey for winter - delicious.

I’ve wanted to try this scotch since watching Parks & Recreation & also seeing Nick Offerman, who plays Ron Swanson, describe it as “mother’s milk”! Whilst I’m not a fan of heavily peated whisky, this has great balance. Yes there’s definite smoke both in the nose and on the tongue, but it doesn’t overpower the way some scotches (such as, in my opinion, Laphroaig) do. It is a very well-rounded flavour which simply leaves you wanting more. The extra time sitting in the barrel really must make a difference.

I've never really drank whisky to appreciate so this was my first choice for a decent bottle to enjoy. Not sure where to go from here as it's amazing! I've only really tried Bell's before but could never polish a bottle of that off as quick as this has gone down. This is smooth with a strong instant smokey peaty wood flavour and a long warm feeling more than a burn. I've been drinking it neat in a glencairn glass over granite rocks and haven't felt the need to add water or anything else. Perfect.

Do you love Scottish Whisky?Do you love peaty Whisky?Do you love Ron Swanson? If the answer to any of these is yes, buy this whisky.I was always fond of Talisker and Ardbeg but ahd never tried Lagavulin until watching an interview with Nick Offerman when he quoted lagavulin as one of his favorite whiskys. I thought i'd give it a bash and ordered this and holy hell - what a drink. My new go to with Ardbeg 10. Cant beat these two for the money.

I must say that this is the best Scotch I ever experienced. I always thought JW blue label is the top class one, Lagavulin proved it wrong. What an amazing experience! We are planning to go to Scotland for our daughter’s birthday and visiting Islay was not in our plan. After trying this drink, we are planning to visit Lagavulin distillery and experience the craftsmanship. Great respect to everyone behind this fantastic drink.

I bought my first bottle of Lagavulin last year after seeing it featured in the hit US sitcom "Parks and Recreation". Everything Ron Swanson said about this whisky is true (Nectar of the Gods he called it). It's heavy and smoky with a satisfying burn, stays on the palette forever. My only complaint is that it has ruined all other Scotch for me. If I sit down with anything else I'll wish I'd gone for the Lagavulin instead.

Came to this bottle after a binge of Ron Swansons wisdom, was not disappointed. This whisky is super smokey, not quite like anything I've ever had before, but I love it. Have been through 2 bottles over the past couple of months and have another sitting in my bar at the moment. I dont think this will be my 'go to' whisky but its certainly worked its way into a regular position on the shelf.

The most delicious whisky ever. You won't make it wrong, it tastes, the smokiness is remarkable. Delivery is fine, but be aware that you have to be at home, so you cannot ask for delivery to a collection point and that is a pain. I will buy this whisky many times more, but not so sure whether Amazon is the best way to buy spirits. You can get good deals in any retailer.
