Recently purchased this little beauty based on a YouTube review of it, and I must say, like the reviewer, I am seriously impressed with this device. It is surprisingly loud (and for some reason seems to be louder over BlueTooth than directly plugged in via the AUX cable). The sound emitted is very directional and the surface you place the speaker on makes a difference to the bass (because of the downwards facing bass speaker).Even cranked up, there is very little noticeable distortion, and music retains clarity throughout the frequency spectrum. When you crank the independent volume controls up on the device, there is a faint hum which is more noticeable if you connect via the AUX cable.Pairing over bluetooth was a synch.Just hold the BlueTooth button down, and then search on your device (I have paired with a Samsung Galaxy S3 and Sony Xperia Z tablet). The KS Hive makes a cheery noise to indicate that you've successfully connected, and away you go.The device itself feels very sturdy, and I like the soft rubberised feel to the outer surface. It certainly feels like it would survive a few drops onto hard surfaces.Note that you CAN charge the device whilst it is operating. However, I have yet to fully test how long it will go before needing another charge. One issue I did find was that when I'd plugged the AUX cable in, the little LED lit up red and every 3-5 seconds it would emit a high pitched buzzing noise for about 3-5 seconds. I couldn't figure out why, and I just happened to hold down the BlueTooth button on the top of the device for a couple of seconds. Then it magically stopped. I can only think that the device was still in a BlueTooth pairing mode, and was indicating it was ready to pair (although why it would only buzz when the AUX cable was plugged in...). This does seem to be only a temporary fix as the buzzing returned when I restarted the device. I've contacted KitSound regarding this.----------------------------Update: This is what I got from KitSound (not ideal, but at least they are aware of the issue. And for me, it's not really an issue):HiSorry to hear there is a problem. The buzzing noise in aux mode is caused by the Bluetooth searching for a device to connect to. After 15 minutes, it will stop as the Bluetooth in the Hive will turn off. Although a less than ideal fix, to force this noise to stop, if you connect a device to the Hive via Bluetooth and then connect via aux, the beeping noise should not longer be present.Sorry for the inconvenience.Kind regards,Marc SmithTesting Manager

People who know me will agree that I love a good, portable speaker - I can't help it, I just prefer listening to my music through a speaker system instead of headphones. So when I discovered this portable speaker from KitSound, I had to buy it.My first impression, having just received the KSHIVE, is extremely positive. I am a sucker for good packaging and the Hive does not disappoint... In fact, I think it over delivers and impresses. The outside of the box has a mostly matte finish except for the picture of the Hive itself, which is glossy and embossed making it look high quality. The information on the outside of the box is neatly presented and informative, with the KitSound brand taking on a colloquial style of writing which I have not seen before; quite fun and friendly creating a good first impression. On opening the outer packaging I am greeted with an inner box which I can only describe as "sunshine yellow" with adorable beehive shaped cutouts down one side - reflective of the speaker to be revealed. Within this box you will then find another box containing an aux cable, a USB cable, a mini user manual and a drawstring carry case to protect your new device.Having removed the speaker from the packaging I am firstly aware of the weight of the speaker. It's not heavy and would fit in most handbags / backpacks but it is definitely sturdier than other speakers I have purchased in the past.My initial thoughts about the aesthetic appeal of the Hive are again, very positive. The beehive pattern on the front of the speaker is smart, well finished and well thought out in design. The feet of the speaker are hexagonal in shape to mirror the beehive pattern which is a nice touch and on the back of the speaker the pattern is embossed instead of cut out meaning the word "hive" has not been taken in vain.I have recently purchased an iPhone 5 so was keen to pair the speaker with my phone. Easily achieved, I was paired within a couple of minutes... Wow. I was not expecting what I heard. Since my first listening and testing of the speaker I have used the Hive to listen to Podcasts and it is perfect. I can have my phone on me, playing a Podcast and happily walk around my house whilst the speaker continues to work. The sound clarity is very good and unless I have the speaker on full volume (which is very loud in comparison to the size of the speaker), the sound is crisp.Overall, I am once again pleased with my KitSound purchase. A favoured brand of mine, I would highly recommend this wireless speaker.

Only just received this and totally blown away!!!!!!This is an initial opinion and I will update accordingly after a few days.Bought this item mainly for streaming music via my echo dot and it paired within seconds. The build quality is top jolly, it looks and feels sturdy. The buttons are responsive and have a satisfying click when pressed. Now, the sound. Simply stunning!!!!!!!! I have owned several speakers and this runs rings around everything I've ever heard before. It has a satisfying bass without being too heavy, mid range isn't overpowering and treble is crisp and clear. Maybe reggae fans would like a little more bass but I find the balance perfect for a mix of music.(Bass etc could easily be enhanced using an equaliser but I find it just fine). The volume goes pretty loud! (I find that setting the speaker to max and setting the dot to 50% is more than adequate for use in a bedroom)Haven't tried using the input cable for wired reception yet not tried using the smart functions (google now) as I'm using it with Alexa but will update review accordingly.Update:Can only give top marks for this little beauty, it's got brilliant, well-balanced sound that can handle everything from reggae to classical to speech really well. Reggae is particularly well presented with good bass whilst not being overpowering. As I write this I'm listening to Bob Marley in my back garden and the sound is sublime.Once again, this is a truly fantastic speaker especially considering its size and is really and truly worth every penny and the google now feature works like a dream too!One minor flaws on this product that I have discovered is that when connected to my echo dot via Bluetooth, the volume is 20% less when unplugged compared to when charging. This is a generic issue and only happens when connected to my echo dot and not when connected to my phone or tablet.Even taking this minor irritation into account, this is in my opinion the best vfm small speaker out there.Highly recommended!Update:-Comparison between hive2 and hive2+.Even though these two speakers look identical, they aint!!!! Forgetting about the obvious difference i.e. the hive2+ has google+ and siri built in. Don't be tempted to buy the hive2 even if you aren't going to use google+ or siri because the 2+ has a much better quality and richer sound plus it's louder! The hive2 sound is adequate and as expected for the price range but the 2+ is a headturner!!!!

This was a black friday purchase for me, so Amazon had it down at £34. I wanted a bluetooth speaker in order that I could listen to music whilst I was in the kitchen, shower or gardening. This absolutely fits the bill for my requirements.First up, most of the people who have had issues with bluetooth connections to the device don't appear to have fully charged it. I recommend doing this upon arrival. To charge my speaker too about 5 hours in total (not the 4 listed in the book), but it was absolutely dead when it turned up from Amazon.Quality? The speaker itself looks to be robust, all the buttons and connections appear to work well, so I'm happy with that. I've not tested it with an aux input though,I use bluetooth only.Sound. The speaker blew me away initally with it's quality, I was very impressed for the money. As others have mentioned the speaker has considerable bass levels, so if you don't like music with a kick this one isn't perhaps for you. I would say however that a lack of bass is normally the undoing of small speakers. I did find that the speaker struggled with a couple of specific frequencies when I was playing music through it, really deep low notes, which I think some bluetooth speakers just filter out completely. The kind of frequencies used in the rock/pop/trance that I listen to are absolutely fine though. It would be nice if there was an ability to amend the levels on the speaker - a basic equaliser, I know you can do this on music apps (I use Google music and you can tweek things in there), but perhaps something that lets you amend this on the device would be handy and negate lots of the 'bass heavy' comments and allow you to tailor the device to your ear.Minor gripes aside for £34 this was a really good buy, it's more than loud enough to fill a small room and personally I enjoy the punchy bass levels.4/5

This really is a great bit of kit (!) especially considering the cheap price. It's really solid with a nice smooth texture and quite a weight to it - if certainly feels very well made and seems much more expensive than it is. It's also really easy to use, pairing is a breeze especially with NFC and unlike some Bluetooth devices it just works first time every time. The controls are solid, easy to use and allow skipping of tracks, volulme control, play/pause and also works with a phone call. The aux socket is a welcome addition for devices that don't have Bluetooth, or for quick playback from a friends phone for example. I've yet to run the battery down, but I used it for a good 5 or 6 hours and the battery status LED has still not gone to red which means it's less than 30% so the stated playback time of 12 hours seems feasible. Then of course there's the sound, which lets face it is all you really want to know - for the size it's by far the best sounding device I've heard. It's quite loud, crystal clear at all volumes and has surprisingly punchy bass along with clear higher notes without sounding tinny or otherwise washed out. It copes well with almost all kinds of music I've tried including heavy rock/metal, generic pop and classical, as well as voice and/or YouTube type videos. It's never going to compete with a proper speaker, but it's easily as good as similar devices that cost 2 or even 3 times as much. It comes with a USB charge cable, 3.5mm aux cable and a nice little carry case. The packaging could be improved, however, as it's really hard to open without it falling out in the process! Stop reading a buy one!

I bought this speaker on the "Black Friday” sale at Amazon a few weeks back and is very nice little speaker with really good design. The sound is very clear but the speaker lacks the deep bass that I was looking for when playing music. The sound is good if you are listning to audio books but that was not my main reason for this purpose so I was a little bit dissapointed. It came with a small bag for the speaker, a normal USB micro charger cable and a flat no tangle 3.5mm to 3.5mm speaker cable if your device doesn’t have Bluetooth. Pairing it with my iPhone 6 was very simple and the battery time is also good. Before buying this speaker I also looked at Bose SoundLink Mini and I actually gotthat speaker as a Christmas gift a week ago and I have now had chance to compare the two speakers side by side and I must say the sound quality of the Bose is outstanding especially the bass. I can crank up the volume really lound and it will completely fill the room with an excellent sound. I also like the docking station that Bose provides which means I always have a fully charged speaker that is ready to go. The Bose SoundLink Mini is however four times more expensive than the KitSound Hive and despite that I would still reccomend the Bose SoundLink Mini because of the sound quality and in the end that is why you buy a speaker. Don’t get me wrong the KitSound Hive is an amazing value for money but it will not give you the same sound experience.

Absolutely astonishing sound for £35!Two 6 watt speakers to deliver 12w of amazing sound and to top it all off, it provides a passive radiator to deliver amazing bass that you can truly feel. The build is fantastic and quite heavy which is what I like, the packaging can be a lot to be desired because of the way it is taped which made it difficult, unless you have a knife to pierce the tape and open the box carefully. You are supplied with a aux to aux cable for a direct connection to the phone that will play your audio without many problems. A usb cable which is used for charging. Fortunately it is a micro usb connection so if you have a device that has a micro usb charger then you are good to go.(See attachment for more information)Audio is great. Bass and treble are balanced and delivers exactly on what is expected. Just don't expect far too much for the price tag, despite it being 12w, the low bass is still problematic and still needs more work to adjust to your needs but of course, that's why we have equalizers on our phones, tablets etc. Trap music suffers from this greatly check YouTube or SoundCloud if you're curious. Battery life is 12 hours so perfect for the full day, although I have been able to get longer times with it. It all just depends on the volume and the level of interference from the room to influence the battery's life.Truly amazing and I would advise anyone to get one.

Excellent for what it is, sound quality is great as long as your expectations are realistic. Obviously a portable speaker of this size is never going to sound like a proper hi-fi, it's not something I'd recommend as your only source of audio at home. However, this is great as a portable unit that's good for camping trips, hotels, out in the garden etc or just as a quick and easy boost to the audio output of a laptop. I've previously used the popular X-mini speakers and, in volume terms, this sounds roughly comparable to two of those daisy chained together but the sound quality of the Hive is better and whereas the X-minis tend to bounce around all over the place and fall over this is much more stable. The 'passive bass radiator' on the bottom actually does seem to help extend the bottom end a bit, particularly if the speaker is placed on a hard surface and the bass response is pretty good (again - if you're realistic about what can be achieved at this size and price). I've had no problems with the bluetooth but I do tend to use the 3.5mm stereo jack more often simply because it uses less battery power both on the speaker and on whatever device I'm using to play music from. The battery life is excellent too, I've certainly had more than the advertised 10 hours out of a full charge when connected through the jack input. For about a quarter of the price of a Bose Soundlink Mini you can't go wrong.

Really needed a Bluetooth portable speaker so decided to support kitsound (a British brand) and purchase the hive h2o. For £15, I got it on deal, this speaker has good sound quality and the build feels sturdy and durable (nothing luxe about this all plastic construction but at its price range I wasn't expecting it to be).The problem: its battery! Advertised as up to 8hrs run time, I can only average 3-4 hours using Bluetooth and not playing at max volume. It has a 600 mah battery (takes 1 and half hours to charge from flat to full), for me it's just not enough juice. I would have paid more for a bigger battery (at least 1000 mah)since as a portable speaker you don't want to worry about it losing power all the time.It has the capability to connect to your devices via an auxiliary cord, but I notice the volume output on the speaker is much lower via this means in comparison to using the Bluetooth, therefore it's not something I'm going to utilise with this product.Pros: lightweight, good/decent sound quality, easy to use, comes with mini usb cable and auxiliary cable, supposedly waterproof, all for £15! Plus comes in some nice colour options.Honestly I would not pay more than £15 for this product due to the battery. Additionally, low vocals sound a tad muffled to me on this speaker. But if you can get this at £15 and don't mind charging it up frequently go for it!

No matter what room I'm in, I like to be listening to music. This speaker is small enough to remain portable but carries a voice loud enough to be used at parties and it sounds awesome. I've read that people are experiencing bluetooth drop outs in their reviews however using this speaker at a party on new years eve, it was bluetoothed to a Moto G for a solid 4 hours without a problem. The battery life on this unit is great, I've charged it once when I first got it and since then I have used it for an estimated more than 30 hours and it so far is doing fine, and I always use it on bluetooth only. However, reason why this isn't 5 star is because, as others mentioned,on lower volumes it does tend to make noises over bluetooth anyway. I still haven't tried the 3.5mm jack. The noises it'll make is usually a bit of buzz for 1-2 seconds, as if something is interfering, despite no other bluetooth devices are in the area. It seems to make such noises around ~6 times a minute.I only really use the device on around 50% max volume and above, I only noticed the buzzing once when I went below 50%, but to be fair it's a decent price. If you're looking for total quality then I advise you try looking at higher priced units, if you just want something that's great to take places and blast when you're in the shower or whatever, then yeah this product is great, I'm still happy with it.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the KitSound Hive speaker range so I treated myself to the Hive X. I can’t describe how incredible the sound is. Although it’s not a tiny speaker, it’s not a stereo system and I was blown away by the audio quality. It is definitely a talking point when I have friends over and it will definitely be enough to play the music at my New Year’s Eve party! I don’t understand what 20 watts is but it has that and it sounds great! it does take a while to charge from when it’s dead to full battery again but it’s worth it because it lasts for SO long. It’s great because I can take it to another room if needs be (and if I don’t want to annoy the neighbours by having the music too loud!)without it dying half way through me cleaning the house. The box says it’s water resistant which is handy to know for when I go on holiday next year as I’d love to have it by the pool with me. It’s very sturdy so I won’t be worried taking it outside and knowing it can survive some water splashes is brilliant. It’s worth noting also that it can charge your phone even when the speaker itself isn’t plugged in! Again, brilliant to know if you’re by the pool or in the garden etc and your battery is running low. The Hive X is one of those things you didn’t know you needed, and when you have it you’ll never want to be without it again!

I bought the Hive 2+, from a store instead of amazon but you got to love this thing. I purchased a kitsound kaymen or something as a home speaker as its big, sleek and as a person who loves music its a great tech addition to my man cave. The only downside with kaymen it the portability as its designed to be a home speaker. So naturally i wanted a portable one for any on the go reasons. I wanted small, nice deep fat bass and clear, crisp everything else. Probably the best know company for all that is Bose with their sound link speakers yet £200 for one of those is alot. Knowing how good the kaymen was, i picked up the Hive 2 + and Wow! Impresive or what.Forget the Bose soundtrue and buy this. The standard price is over £100 cheaper than the Bose and yet easily matches it. The bass is so good you can feel it thumping on a rugged and carpeted floor 6ft away at louder volumes without distortion. Yet you don't lose the bass feel at lower volumes as the level transitions perfectly with the volume.I've tested loads of genres of music through it from Rock to heavy metal, trap, and edm,and classical, and you get that smile of listening to you favourite tracks on a quality speaker that delivers you everything you want, everytime you hit the play button. In summary...Buy it don't hesitate just Buy it

I loved the first Hive and was excited to see a second-generation one appear on the market, so moved the first one upstairs and put this in its place in the kitchen. It sounds great and goes loud without distorting, with a sound that really fills the room impressively for such a small speaker.I prefer the design of the first one in terms of the power button as you have to press and hold this one to turn it on and off, rather than just flicking a switch, although having all the buttons together on the top is handy. I think there's a slight difference in connecting automatically with this too, as it seems happier to connect if the Bluetooth on the phone (iPhone 4S and Moto G)is turned on first and then the speaker second, whereas I don't think that mattered with the Hive 1.The other difference with this one is that, while it comes with a micro USB charger like the first Hive, this one won't charge from my USB wall plug (which charges every other device I've ever tried it with just fine) and will only charge from a laptop. Maybe that's something to do with the power rating, but it seems odd to me, and is a bit of a pain as the wall charger is much more convenient to use than the laptop. The battery does last a fair while though, so it's not the end of the world.

I purchased this item at the end of November 2013 for use as a portable speaker to use on holiday. It looks very stylish and feels very solid and good quality. The case is a rubber like sealed unit and would appear to be substantial. And the sound quality has been outstanding - great to use for sharing music and internet radio from my Ipad and removing the need for earphones. I have just returned from my second holiday of 2015, and happily used the speaker on 3 holidays in 2014, but sad to say the unit has failed during this recent holiday and as it is out of warranty period it would seem I have no way of getting a repair / replacement. The unit appears to charge with red light on during charge and turning to green to indicate fully charged, but as soon as I remove the charging cable or try to switch the unit on the green light extinguishes and the unit appears to be totally dead. So all in all I have been able to use the unit for less than 6 weeks.I am pleased to say that, having made contact with Justin at Kitsound he has very kindly offered to look at my speaker and see if anything can be done to restore my satisfaction with what I hope will continue to be a very useful holiday accessory.

This is an incredible speaker, probably the best I have come across. The sound is big and balanced. It comes with a micro USB charging cable and 3.5mm audio cable to connect to an external device. The power on button has a subtle LED which indicates the charge level, green when it's fully charged, red/yellow when at 50% and red when the charge is below 20%. This is very useful as you can determine how much charge is left on the device. The connection options are NFC and Bluetooth and I have only tried Bluetooth which is very quick to connect and doesn't lose connection when you move out of the room.As far as sound goes, I was impressed instantly when I heard the sound for the first time,it is clear, loud and has a great balance between Bass and Treble. You can control volume from both the speaker and from your phone. The sound completely filled up my living room, and I was amazed by the clarity even at low volumes.I have tried many Bluetooth speakers and the Hive2 really beats them all hands down, for a fraction of the cost. I recommend to buy this speaker without hesitation. I have never been so pleased with a purchase, like I'm with the Hive2 as I can't find a single fault!
