This USB flash drive is designed for when security is paramount. In my opinion the target market is business use, not domestic because the security measures are so severe that they actually become a disadvantage for domestic use.For example, the drive has 256-bit data encryption (which is great). The encryption key deletes itself after ten failed attempts at entering your password. That is fine for protecting business data (your company will just issue you with a new flash drive) but I imagine that it would be terrible for the average domestic user. Personally, I just want a secure flash drive so that if I drop it in the street or if some nosey person at work decides to take a look at what is on it,they will struggle. What I don’t want is to find that the office joker has tried to take a peek, guessed my password ten times and as a result my USB drive has been ‘bricked’.You may remember that an NHS Primary Care Trust lost 1.6 million patient records, stored on a CD, in 2012. The CD was lost during an office move – it was inside a filing cabinet and the NHS doesn’t know where that cabinet went to. That is the sort of thing that this USB flash drive would be great at protecting you from. Business needs, not domestic.Having said that, the security on this is so good that a person is likely to find it very difficult to access the data on it. That probably explains why it is so expensive. That is the level of protection you want if someone intentionally steals your flash drive. The best features are that:• It automatically locks itself when removed from a USB port. Therefore if someone removes it from your computer while it is plugged in i.e. in its unlocked state, you are protected; and when you remove it, you don’t have to remember to lock it.• It has abnormally good protection from the elements such as rain (see below).• Encryption is performed on the flash drive, not on the computer that it is plugged into.• No trace of the PIN is left on the computer that it is plugged into.• The security features are independent of the operating system so it works with Windows, Mac OS, Chrome, Linux and Android.• It requires no drivers or software. It slides into a sheath (which stops dust etc. surrounding the keypad) and as a result it is waterproof/dustproof certified to IP57 rating. The 5 means ‘ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment’ (there is only one higher level – ‘dust tight’). The 7 means that it protects against ingress of water at up to one metre of submersion. The key word there is ‘up to’ – expect it to protect itself against rain and possibly being dropped in a puddle. There is a small O-ring on the flash drive to help seal it against water intrusion – an unusually good level of protection. Hence the IP57 rating.I trust Kingston. I had a bad experience with SD cards failing on me so I switched to Kingston – they have never failed on me. While USB flash drives are different to SD cards, I do trust Kingston for making memory that is less likely to simply die on me. I always back up my memory but no one wants memory to fail due to the hassle and as you always lose everything since the last backup.I imagine that this is the sort of USB flash drive that will be issued to government and business employees. Drives like this should spell the end to our personal, unencrypted data being left on trains or just lost, but I can’t see it ending.

I was unaware until recently that you could get an encrypted flash drive, but now that I know about them the idea seems rather obvious and smart. This particular drive uses 256 bit hardware encryption - which is an incredibly high security standard, as well as providing a feature that locks out any user after 10 failed attempts to enter the security code. Combined with the fact that the drive leaves no trace of pin details on the host computer, this is an incredibly safe way of storing data. The device features a full alphanumeric keypad - so a wide range of passwords is possible - and it is also highly durable and weather proof. Finally, the device is quick (USB 3.0 compatible) and easy to use.Due to the high price I cannot give the full 5 stars, but otherwise this is the perfect flash drive for important and/or sensitive data.

This is a very well designed USB stick, which provides encrypted protection for your data. It is well designed and feel said and reliable. It comes complete with a keyring loop and cover. As it only has 16GB of storage, it is only really ideal for documents and smaller files. It uses USB 30, is fast to upload and download data from. It works well with my MacBook, and the pin code (7 digits, making it hard to remember!) unlock works well. But data is removed if the pin is entered incorrectly too many times, so be careful! Recommend if you need added protection for valuable data/files.

This stick is so easy to set up with its own security code you enter on the device. On board green and red lights tell you if you are unlocked or locked. Plug into any usb 2/3 device for viewing or use female usb to micro b/c for use on tablet or phone. No special software involved, so just unlock and plug into your device. Very well made with protective matching sleeve for carrying.
