A kitchen can be defined by its knives. It can also be defined by its ambience, décor and the number of copper pans hanging, unused from the wall over the Aga, but let us return to knives...Any chef will tell you that his knives are the essential tools of his trade whether they be heirloom knives handed down from generation to generation and honed to spears or whether they are new state of the art knives that do such an efficient job they save plenty of time to do all the fancy bits required by nouveau cuisine as well as good old "mum's cooking"This fabulous looking pair of knives would look grand in any kitchen big or small and, to me,they are revolutionary in style and design. They come in superbly designed safety sheaths that also include knife sharpening devices built into them, it is advised to have a good old sharpen before each use. There is a large chef's cutting knife (I refuse to reference Psycho here but you know what I mean) that cuts through meat as easily as chopping peppers or mushrooms plus a small paring knife for all those necessary preparation jobs. This is a good deal and the knives should last at least one generation if not more

This is a great pair of kitchen knives with stainless steel blades bearing the legend 'Joseph Joseph'. The dark enamel coated blades slip simply into their dedicated sharpening sheaths and on removal have their edge reinforced. The sheaths are both protective as well abolishing the edge. It goes without saying that these blades are razor sharp, and I thoroughly recommend that you only handle them when fully awake! The 3 1/2" paring knife is so useful around the kitchen and the larger 6" chef's knife handles those bigger jobs. If you just have these to sizes you can handle most slicing jobs in your kitchen and I think that they have been very shrewd to put these two together in a pack. The 6"blade slices through raw meat as if it was not there - and the beauty is that if you keep storing it in the sheaf it will remain this sharp. The 3 1/2" blade slices every small vegetable simply, making an easy job of carrots, shallots, courgettes etc.I am confident that these will serve me well for a considerable time!My wife always says that there is no way you cn accidentally cut yourself with our kitchen knives because they are so blunt. Not any more!

These are a pair of the most used knives, a paring knife and a chef’s knife in a blister pack - which was difficult to open. The Chef's knife is smaller than my usual one, so was a little apprehensive in how good it would be.Each knife has its own sheath which fits snuggly and securely, and on each one has a built in sharpener at the end of the sheath. The idea being that you can sharpen the blade before use each time. In reality, I would only ever sharpen if it went blunt, rather than each time to prolong the life of the blade.Cutting is very easy, they seem to glide through whatever I tried:- bread, fruit, meat, vegetables, fish etc. Not once did the blade bend. As they are light, you would expect that you need a huge amount of pressure to ensure a good cut - but no, they cut with very little effort.I also like the black blade and handle, that slide into the protective sheath snuggly and positively.I have had many sets of knives over the years and have purchased dearer ones as a separate purchase, but these are the best ones I now own.

These knives come as a set of two, and I have received the 3.5 inch one to review.Firstly, it is very, very sharp! I have quite a few knives that I thought were sharp, but I can see now that I was mistaken. I've never seen anything slice through tomatoes as easily as this, and with it's own little sharpener on its cover, it will be very easy always to keep it this sharp. I did think the cover on each knife was a bit of an unnecessary extravagance, but on second thoughts, it's probably much safer to keep the blade covered. These knives look very stylish too, in their smart charcoal grey and a touch of contrasting red. If you like your knives sharp (and I'm always a little bit wary of them)you will love these.

Excellent pairing of knives. Really sharp blades that are maintained by using the inbuilt sharpeners in the case. Do not use to sharpen other types of blades, e.g. ceramic or serrated. Follow the instructions to maintain the quality and for hygiene. The case is excellent - protects the blade when stored and protects fingers when not in use.Not for heavy work. Handle size in man mitts can make for clumsiness. Best use is for small cutting and peeling.I have quite a collection of knives, been graduating to more expensive each time replacing knives. These are not professional chef quality, but you shouldn't expect that at these prices. Make a nice, useful tool in the domestic arena

This would be a lovely pair......except I only have the small pairing knife. That aside the knife is one of the best I have used. I normally like to invest in good things that will last a whilst, but normally stop short of pro level kit. This knife is superb. It is a good weight and well balanced and is very effective. It cleans well and the sheath is very good as I keep my knives in the draw so it stops knocks, dinks and maybe wayward hands getting caught out.Integrated into the end of the case is a ceramic sharpener which seems to work well. That said I've not had it long enough to seriously dull the blade but the whole package is well built and well thought out.

I was sent the paring knife to review (not the chef’s knife). The Joseph Joseph paring knife is great quality and feels well weighted in the hand. It arrived extremely sharp so be careful when opening the tough plastic packaging. The knife sleeps in the sharpener but my wife was extremely wary of missing the small slot so we are instead putting it directly in to our knife block. The sharpener works well and is a nice idea if you don’t have one already. In use it cuts vegetables without problem, it just feels right. Use usual caution around sharp knives as it really does cut effortlessly.Great knife, highly recommended.

I'm really pleased with this knife. It looks very stylish - maybe a slightly different feel from the usual Joseph Joseph design in being a bit darker, but I think it looks very sleek and modern. The whole thing feels high quality, and the blade is very sharp. The knife is kept in a small cuboid shape container, which doubles as a sharpener each time the blade is put in it. I'd have to have the knife for a bit longer to comment on the effectiveness, but it seems like a good idea, and certainly aesthetically looks good for storage. In summary, highly recommended.

To best honest I was tempted to leave a two word review as there knives are just awesome. They are a nice weight and super sharp, the handle is excellent and feels very comfortable - they are quite simply the best knives I’ve used…The sheath is excellent, protecting the knife and allowing you to store the knives in a (cutlery) drawer without the risk of inadvertent cuts. There is sharpener integrated into the sheath; a nice & useful feature. My review does not fully convey how good these knives are; I love them. I would award more than 5* if I could.

A very high quality set of knives. Each knife comes with a protective cover which doubles as a sharpener. The beauty of these knives is the non stick coating. I'm surprised more knives do not come with covers. A godsend if you have young children about the home. The sharpener looks like it is made of plastic or ceramic and feels like it shouldn't work but it does.Opening the packaging was really difficult. It's a sealed plastic cover and I cut myself trying to open it with scissors but I guess for safety they have to package this way.

Sadly, I received only the small paring knife, rather than both knives, so I haven't been able to test the chef's knife which is the size I tend to use for almost all of my meal preparation.I can report that the paring knife handles well and is beautifully sharp. I like Joseph Joseph products very much, though I think they are sometimes over priced. This paring knife is decent value, I think, as the steel seems to be high quality and I very much like the design which has the safety sheath also incorporating a ceramic knife sharpener.

I have the small paring knife and it is very sharp. The case acts as a sharpener and is easy to use. It does not need a lot of strength to sharpen the knife. The knife handle is comfortable to hold and the knife blade's length is ideal for preparing vegetables. It is not a heavy knife, so easy to use for extended periods without making my arthritic hands ache when prepping veg from the garden for the freezer. Recommended if you need an easy to sharpen, small-size paring knife.

These are absolutely brilliant. Very sharp knives with a built in knife sharpener on the sheath. The only downside is that it leaves the question of where to store them. They just end up lying on the kitchen side. If the backing was magnetic they could be out onto the fridge! Other half loves cooking and was very happy with these, and he's a bit snobbish sometimes!

I was sent the small 3 1/2" paring knife and teh 6" Chef's knife to review. They are both very easy to use kitchen implements. The cases act as a sharpener which is a nifty touch. They are easy to use and very good at cutting vegetables, meat etc. They are not too heavy to hold and a great addition to my knife collection.

These have kept a good edge with just a simple swipe across the sharpener after each use. Very handy having the built in sharpener in the sheath.I did an Amazon search for Ceramic Knives and ordered these expecting ceramic. They are not. It was my mistake, but I'm not sorry because the knives are superb in my caravan.
