Johnnie Walker Green is certainly an interesting whisky, quite the enigma in the JW range I believe. As someone who generally has the full range in the cupboard, unopened Blue aside, I find it sits nicely at its price point and for some would provide a much more interesting dram than the Gold.Johnnie Walker have always done their utmost to keep the range as consistent as possible for as long as possible, with varying degrees of success. It's much harder at the 15/18 year old end of the scale, where the whiskies required to make the blend are scarcer and more difficult to source in large quantities. The Gold has changed wildly over the years, from No Age Statement varieties to the classic 18,with a smoothness and richness of good matured single malts. The Blue has always been its own beast, but the Green has managed to keep its vibrant, youthful exuberance mixed with spicy experience. It's somewhat unremarkable on the nose, but on the palate it comes alive. It's peppery and spicy, quite a feisty little fella, with a long lingering finish. There's definite notes of peach and other pitted fruits, all working in harmony to create a surprisingly coherent flavour profile. It now states proudly on its label which are the four main distilleries malts contained within, just to convince even the hardiest of single malt snobs that blends have their place. Talisker, Linkwood, Cragganmore and Caol Ila (which has long been a favourite across the range as it packs a punch).Blending has always been a part of high-end Scotch Whisky and Johnnie Walker have certainly got it right with the latest bottling of the green. My only gripe is the escalating price which is now more like the Gold price point of a few years ago. Still, if you're choosing between this and the Gold you can't go far wrong picking the Green if spicy, vibrant, exciting flavours are your thing.

Having tried the majority of the core range of Johnnie Walker (JW) products over the years I have to say that this mid price-range Green Label is absolutely tremendous. The official tasting notes include such phrases as ... "clean aromas of cut grass and fresh fruit mingle with pepper, rich vanilla and sandalwood" having never conceived this mix of flavours previously, I'm unable to comment on the accuracy of this; what I would say, however, is that this JW Green Label, tastes, smells and feels exactly like the whisky you imagine in your hand when you think about walking into a period manor house with roaring open fire on a cool November evening.I have drank many more expensive whiskys and it is fair to say that some have been 'better in the moment',but this is the one that in the event of an empty bottle on the shelf would have to be replenished immediately. Perfect neat or with a cube of large ice, please don't mix this (it's too good). One to enjoy year round and special enough for any occasion, get one now but keep it to yourself because once your friends get a snifter they'll not leave until the mid coloured bottle is running clear.

To put it very simply: this is not really worth paying the additional £10-15 compared to Black Label. They are very comparable drops indeed, with Green Label expressing more seaweed and vegetation notes on the palate with an oilier mouthfeel compared with Black Label's very malty overtones with faint smokiness appearing in the background. I was genuinely disappointed here: I expected to be if not blown away, at least satisfied with my purchase. Not a bad whisky by any means, merely a good but overpriced blend.I was initially far too harsh on this whisky, it really suffered from the 'neck pour' effect that results from not having enough air circulating around the spirit to let it mellow out.Now it's been sitting 2/3 full for a week or so, it's far richer, more rounded and more pleasant. It is in no way worth £40 though: while there is clearly a lot of aged malt in this, a definite bitterness at the end betrays the inclusion of an amount of grain whisky, to save on costs. You can get some fantastic single malts that lack this entirely for the same money or less. Definitely worth a try at £30, alright at £35, bad deal at £40.

Bought for (and shared with) my brother as a Christmas present, and he has just got around to opening it. We have tried all in the standard range of JW Blends (red, black, double black and gold) except for the blue (would I like to have the money for that one...), and this is second only to the Gold, and on par with the Black in my book. For me (as ever, notes are subjective), it is a light, citrussy number on the nose, which is peppery and with a little bite on the palate. To me, it isn't smoky/peaty, especially when compared to the black (or especially the double black!).Johnnie Walker has a wide and varied range of blends, which can be overlooked by those who immediately assume "single malt = better".Don't be fooled by this, as it closes the door to some really nice whisky! While the best starting point is either the black (price) or gold (simply delightful), this one is a good one to see what else they have on offer!

This is unlike the rest of JW range in that it is a blended malt whisky. The key word here is 'malt' which means they have not used any of the grain whiskies used in the vast majority of their blends. Green label comprises single malts from Caol Ila, Cragganmore, Linkwood and Talisker distilleries - all of which produce some very fine whiskies in their own name. The Green label is very well priced and is, in my opinion, better than a lot of the more expensive bottlings from JW. There is a little bit of peat smoke in the taste, but this is nicely balanced with sweetness, spice and salty flavours and is an excellent soft introduction to the world of peated whiskies. Highly recommended, particularly if you can find it on offer.

Had previously reviewed this as a 5 but the new blend is around a 4.... the price is up a little and the flavour isnt as tasty as it used to be (used to have chocolate style finish and now is a bit sharper...... older review is below...Very presentable bottle - good age - reasonably complex . Actually got on flash sale for £26 and is defo worth a few bob more than that. I have drank a fair bit of blue in my time (thanks BA first lounge) but I find this blend more interesting (and cheaper)... just waiting for the price to go down again and will stock up :). BTW not a whisky tasting professional but do have a very wide range of whiskies so am not going to try tasting notes !

I must say I was impressed by the quality at the given price. The other whisky that surpassed my expectations was the "Grand old Parr" but that's not what this review is about.Green Label is a little smoky whisky which I like, has a beautiful smell and I would even consider being a good whisky for a starter. It is a blend of different distilleries like any other Johnnie Walker with the youngest barrel being 15 years old. It's quite good, but everyone tastes whisky differently. Look at the taste and smell profile and see if it is any similar to other whiskeys you had tried before. That helped me discovering different whiskeys and my preferred taste profile.Enjoy

First purchased at an airport on a promotion a couple of years ago, and it immediately replaced JW's Black Label as my favourite tipple. The taste and texture was superior to any whisky I'd had at any time. It had just the right combination of aromatic smoothness, sweetness, and bite to suit my liking. A shot with an ice cube and the whole workday's stressful moments are pleasantly eroded! This is a whisky that earns your respect and makes you savour it in small doses at a slow rate - and not just because of it's higher price tag. Then, disaster struck - it disappeared from the shelves for a long while!!But suddenly it came back. Happy days are here again :)

I’ve always avoided blended, I guess in part to snobbery. I also refused to buy JW due to all the marketing and thought it would be total crap. In the end I gave in, my days I’m actually blown away. I didn’t realise the quality single malts that go into this and the result is an outstanding flavour. I take it all back and I’m going to buy another bottle. Simply, simply, lovely.I'm now on my third bottle of this, it led me to try peated whisky which is now a favorite. Coming back to this I tasted something I didn't notice before. I couldn't place it, then I read the notes and cedar it was. Clear as day. This gets better. I hope it doesn't run out.

Being a bit of a single malt snob, I was encouraged by friends to try some of the blends. It turns out there are cheap crap blends and then there are high quality blends. This is definitely the latter. I currently have a collection of 30+ whiskies, including a few 40 year olds, and johnnie walker green is probably my favourite! It's so smooth, but interesting too. Lots of depth. Lovely stuffI've heard it's been discontinued though so will need to buy a couple of bottles to store away.P.s. Try johnnie walker double black too. Awesome

I got this on offer for under £30, and it was a really pleasant surprise. Knowing & enjoying the single malts listed on the label, I thought I'd give this a shot. What impressed me with this Johnnie Walker, is that the peaty flavours from its constituent whiskies come through (no I can't recognise individual notes from the specific whiskies :) ) which result in a really nice lightly peated tipple. It's got a lovely smooth finish, and good for both peat lovers, and people who are generally put off by "bigger" peatier whiskies.

I've only ever encountered two blended whiskys for £30 or under that I would rate as up there with a quality single malt. JW Green Label makes three. It's not amazing but it is very solid. A blend of four single malts - Talisker, Linkwood, Caol Isla and Cragganmore - it has a little of all the range of qualities you can find in whisky, yet manages to be the best of all worlds whilst still having bags of individual character. That's quite some feat and the work of some seriously master blenders.

A very nice blend. In a nice case.I particularly like that they lists the whiskies it is a blend of, so when i went to a recently opened whisky bar in Birmingham I was able to try them. Having tried the peaty Caol Ila and talisker and the much smoother cragganmore and linkwood, I am even more impressed by the skill of the whisky blender, it manages to remain smooth and enjoyable whilst delivering just enough peatyness one associates with a single malt scotch. highly recommend.

Managed to persuade my father in law to crack this open on Christmas Day after giving it to him as a present. I was impressed with the complexity of this whisky, after trying JW black and finding it boring and lacking any sort of warmth or bite I wasn’t expecting much but it really is totally different. I’d almost suggest this one tastes like you expect the black one to, the name black sounds deep and complex and green sounds light and floral but it’s the other way round.

Great whisky but don't just take my word for it, Jim Murray gave it 95 points and it was awarded Scotch vatted malt of the year in 2010 & 2012.This is a vatted/blended malt (only made from malt whisky), the only one Johnnie Walker produce, all of their other blends contain both malt whisky and grain whisky. It has been discontinued and will sell out everywhere as stocks diminish so I expect it to become highly desirable to collectors in years to come.
