I am not your usual 'game player'. I bought myself a DS lite recently and had played professor layton on it and loved that. Up until this point I had never played a computer game in my life. I therefore wanted more puzzle games but for a slightly cheaper price. I bought this after reading the reviews, not knowing what 'match 3' meant.Initially, not really knowing that the puzzles were only of one sort, I felt disappointed, as I like a selection of types of puzzle and this does not supply that. In addition (unless Im doing something wrong), you are not really building Rome as such, you are just being lead through various levels where you then get enough points or whatever to purchase bits of structure that an empire needs like forums, harbour, villages etc. I had thought and would prefer it, if you specifically build things using the puzzles, needing to place things strategically or whatever, but this game is not like that. However, once I started playing, I cannot put this game down. Im embarrassed to say that I have spent late nights frustratingly trying to complete various levels. Im now on level 58 and it took me about 4 hours to get level 55!!For those that dont know what match 3 is (although Im sure I was the only one), you have to move tiles around on a board to match 3 items in a row. You can only move one tile at a time and it has to match up with 2 others or it wont move. Some of the items can give you more time or in the case of the hammers, bombs and lightening strikes can unbreak other tiles on the board if you want. You have to clear all the blue tiles to complete the level. This may sound easy but harder levels lock the tiles, double lock the tiles and have entry tiles to gain access to more blue that you need to clear. It gets very difficult, at least for me.One thing I would say is that I get frustrated with the locked tiles because its not always easy to see what is under them if the game contains both boulders (to represent building blocks of Rome) and silver coins, as they both look very similar with chains across. This has not detracted from the game and of course, in addition to further Professor Layton games, I will be getting more and more of these.Tips for those who havent played-Try to start from the bottom up where you canTry to start in the blue area if you canWhere the stylus does not seem to be moving the tiles (as mentioned in other reviews), dont try to drag swap them over, just press on the tile you want, then press on the next one you are swapping with rather than trying to drag them, seems to work for me.When you are running out of time but you have a hammer or icon to help you, if you think you wont be able to complete the level, dont use your hammer then, wait until you start again otherwise it will be a waste.

This game was recommended to me as I was a fan of Bejewelled Blitz. I can honestly say it is one of the best games I have played. Each level is different although based on the same theory. Where it differs from BJ, is that you do get somewhere eventually as you have to build your city. This is achived by completing each level and collecting enough items on each level to enable you to purchase an item. The levels get progessively harder (obviously) but not enough to put you off trying again. The only small niggles I have is that the icons (once you get to higher levels) have chains across them and eventually double chains and I found it difficult to see what icon was underneath (even on the DSiXL)so I sometimes missed getting my three in a row to release the chains. At this level you have to match 3 symbols 3 times before it clears the path. You do get help once you have released them in the form of lightening, bombs, stars, extra time and other's which I found impossible to complete the level without using them!!The only other thing was that I found the instructions very vague and I only really understood what I had to do once I started playing. I was trying to buy items without enough money and to me this bit wasn't clear. But now I have mastered it I am having a ball with it.... saying that, I am stuck on level 68 but I will get there. Buy it, it is a blast.

If you like things like bejeweled, you will love Cradle of Rome. It's a match three game but with the incentive of each level bringing you closer to becoming Emperor of Rome! A three match will put your score up enabling you to buy certain items to make Rome, basically. You start of simple so you'll whizz through the first 20 levels, afterwards however, it starts speeding up and becomes complex making it even more fun. I doubt you'd get bored; it's a game not limited to any gender or anyone of any age. Everyone can play. It's so good that you feel kind of disappointed at the end when you reach level 100. As well as being pretty cool, you have the added bonus of having historical information about what the item is that you need to buy and also how that item helped the development of Rome, which helped me understand how much effort had to go into making Rome the hub of the world, really (minus the match three's though!). It's definitely worth the money!

A great game for making you sit still when you are ill. This is a simple to follow game that should appeal to people of all ages who like myself can't handle the frustration of platform type games. Match three games are more for me. I even found my 86 year old uncle playing it! You can put the game down for a couple of days and restart where you left off without having to repeat your last three of four levels which happens in many computer games. It becomes more difficult with each level and you can easily run out of time if you are not quick but I've played all levels twice now without getting bored. Very similar to Jewel quest which I love as well.

Yes it's only jewel matching. Yes the "Rome building" aspect of this doesn't add anything to he experience. Yes you've played it for free on the internet...but with 100 different puzzles it is still good value and very, very addictive in a "just one more round" sort of way.One major complaint though, which has been picked up on various other review sites, is that the stylus control is sometimes a bit iffy which is incredibly frustrating towards the later levels when time is of the essence and you find "jewels" flying all around the screen in unintended directions (ooh err missus!)

This game is extremely addictive! Once you start playing you don't want to put it down. It's similar to other 'match 3 shape' games except you build Rome at the same time. The only downside was that my boyfriend completed all 100 levels but didn;t have enough pionts to build Rome. The game told him to start again so he didn't feel like it ended well for him!Top Tip: On the easier levels or where you have loads of time left try to get your points total up by not clearing the last square until near the end. That way you'll be able to build Rome!

I ordered this game after reading the reviews and thought i would try it.It is a brilliant addictive game, great if you have a spare 10 mins or 10 hours!!I love the resource gathering and this makes you play the game faster to achieve your goals of building great monuments.....but..at level 31 my dreams of building Rome were smashed when the darned game crashed!GGRRRR!I will now never be able to build my Coliseum....Do i try another new copy of Cradle of Rome or do i leave it alone now and despair at our failed relationship..?

I was a little wary having read several negative reviews that the game broke down at level 31, but I can honestly say that I have had no trouble at all with it.It's a good game and I like it lots. It is perfect for that bit of relaxation when you don't want to concentrate too hard on anything. However, it does get very frustrating around level 60ish when it seems to be that much harder to break all the tiles. I can't comment on any further as I haven't got there yet!

I purchased this game about a month ago and have spent hours on it! It is similar to 'Bejewelled' if you are a fan of that. Some of the levels are relatively easy, some definately take a few goes! It is bright and colourful to look at. I have enjoyed playing it, so much so that i will probably buy cradle of egypt. Some would probably say it is a little repetative but it just gets a hold of you and you have to carry on! A pleasant way to while away the winters evenings!

Bought this game at the end of May and have been playing it every day since. Yes every day as it's so addictive. There are 100 levels. The first few levels were fairly easy but as I progressed it became quite a challenge trying to complete them in the allotted time. Each time the timer ran out I couldn't stop doing the level over and over again. I have finally reached level 92 after playing the game for a month. Would certainly recommend this game for value for money.

Just getting into DSi games so trying different formats. I would say this is one that keeps you playing as addictive in repeating same actions to pass levels. I don't think the story brings much to it. The game has crashed twice after completing a level so not sure if this is a norm as currently bought another game and has done the same. Have not unlocked what finds the bonus or is it just random as you play.Very similar to other connect games but keeps you going.

This game really is great value for money as it is wildly addictive and a game that you can replay once you finish it, just to try and beat your score. The best of all the jewel matching games (and I've played them all), with brilliant, clear graphics and increasingly difficult levels make this game infuriatingly compulsive; it is so easy to lose and hour (or two!) playing Cradle of Rome. Hope there's a sequel in the offing!!

It's a simple, crazy little game, but totally addictive and unputdownable! Its a five starer and I really do love it. Im coming to the end of it as Im on puzzel 94 and Im dreading finishing it! Its had me up to three morning!! You don't realize the time when your playing on this game, so if you buy it, which you really should do and wont regret, you should also set an alarm clock as you might start missing appointments!

I was as frustrated as many others were when this game crashed at level 31. After trying many times I found the following way around this annoying problem:Change the game settings into another language (control boxes are in the same place when logging on so remember where they are in English!)Play level 31, then you can change the language settings back to English and continue playing.Hope this helps!

my partner and i loved this game and both found it hard to put down, the problem is we only have one ds that we share so it became a flip of a coin to see which one of us got to play the game each evening !!. 100 levels done and i am now sad that i've finished it, but give it a few months and this is a game that i could do again and i am sure i would enjoy it just as much. well worth the money.
