I had the original Mk1 Airram for a few years and still really appreciate how easy it is to use. It’s so easy to just pick it up and clean without really thinking about it. I used to look at the floor and wonder whether it was worth getting the mains powered hoover out and setting it up and getting bits of furniture out of the way so the hose and flex didn’t knock things over, but now I just grab the Airram, press the switch and clean up in the same time it would take to decide and do the preparation. In fact, it’s almost fun and I tend to plan the rest of the day whilst playing - I mean, cleaning - with the Gtech.I prefer these to the Dyson cordless as well, all the weight is being taken by the ground unit with a Gtech, you are just pushing it around. With a Dyson, you’re carrying the heaviest part in your hand and with the lighter cleaner head on the ground, it’s a little more effort to control it as you manoeuvre around furniture. This new ‘Mark 2’ version of the AirRam is redesigned in every area. The overall concept is the same, but the style is different and there are new features. The handle lowers, and in fact the entire handle unit can be removed by a button on the back. The new “airlock” tab feature increases the gap height at the front when pushing the vacuum forward so as to pick up larger objects (e.g. coffee beans, Cheerios, etc…). And then, on pulling it back towards you, the tab along the front closes down, which increases the air suction for picking up dust (flour, spilt sugar, etc.). The AirRam has always relied on a fast rotating brush-bar more than suction to pick up the dirt; this is why Dyson go on about their cordless ones having more “air suction” than an Airram – this is true, but the Airram doesn’t need it.Comparing this with the Mk1 AirRam:Performance is about the same I think. Some people say they prefer the original (Mark 1) AirRam, but I haven’t noticed a difference in how effectively it picks up fluff and bits. Perhaps it depends on what sort of carpets, laminate, etc. you’ve got, combined with the sort of hair/fur you’re picking up?The brush-bar in the Mk 2 is a one-piece unit, so there isn’t that gap in the hoovering in the middle that you get with the original AirRam (which most brush-bar hoovers have). The really big advantage with the new design is that you take the brush-bar out buy just pressing a button on the side; with the original you had to unscrew 4 bolts to get them out for cleaning or removing tangled up hair. The new dirt container is SUPERB! You yank it out, unclip the side lid over a bin, and then slide the green tab along and it gets rid of most of the fluff in a controlled manner. Sometimes I find that a bit of fluff gets stuck at the end, but sliding the tab back releases this and bin is completely empty. Occasionally I have to pull a bit out, but most of the time, with the woollen carpet fluff I get lots of in mine, is all out in one ‘forward and back’ slide. (I attached some photos of me emptying mine – sorry for the pictures of my carpet dirt (!) - but it shows you how well it works most of the time.)As for this more expensive K9 version being worth the extra amount: it does have more metal components than the normal one, with it’s mainly tough plastic design, and the brush-bar has slightly different bristles to pick up more pet hair. It will just depend on how much vacuuming is done and how much hair and fur has to be picked up. The K9 also has ‘scented tabs’ that slot inside the filter, I find this does leave a fairly pleasant smell – and does disguise some of the smells you sometimes get from the air coming out of the vacuum. If someone's had issues with previous vacuum cleaners not coping with pet hair, then this would perhaps be worth the extra cost; it’s got the design features to last longer under hairier conditions...

So I bought a Hoover Freedom about a year and a half ago. Cost a fortune but it seemed to have all the necessary bells and whistles, all the right tools and extension hoses for rooms with 12 foot ceilings. My husband used it once before we left to go abroad and when we came back I tried it myself. Attachments still 100% great, but, I couldn't push the darn thing. Being American I'd actually not ever owned a vacuum that wasn't self-propelling so I never thought the weight would be an issue. Well, I'll be darned, my Hoover Freedom didn't know anything about self-propelling and it was quite big so storage was an issue.I actually hired a man to help me clean and he's been doing the vacuuming but I just couldn't stand that I couldn't whip round the carpeting whenever I pleased. My neighbour loaned me her Dyson but I found that upright almost as hard to push as mine. I considered the Dyson cordless but really didn't a have a space where I would have appreciated the vacuum cleaner hanging from a wall. (Did I mention my house early 1900's period). Now, I have been watching the Gtech commercials on TV and thought - ooh, could this be the one? Received it next day, charged the battery (took about 3 hours, not 4) and gave it a test one. Boy am I one happy camper. It's small and stores easily. It's light to carry around and don't have to hang the thing on a wall as the battery pops right out and can charge anywhere you like. It felt a bit on the heavy side when pushing but I realize it's not weight that does that it's the incredible suction power of this thing.I won't go into detail about all the marvelous features this has - other reviewers have done that. It doesn't have tools but I have remedied that by using my Puppyoo hand vac that has everything else I need for heights, corners, upholstery etc. (I don't have to hang the Puppyoo on the wall either as it has a very, very long cord which really doesn't bother me at all.)What's left to say ... if my story sounds like yours in any way, buy this vacuum. You will not regret it.

We've got two of these, the first is the standard MK1 and the second being the MK2 K9. They are great vacuum cleaners, we use them on hard floors, low pile carpets and long pile rugs. It picks up well on all of them, however you need to be careful with rugs as it tends to suck up the edges of the rug and jam. We've bot a three bed semi and the battery easily lasts long enough to do the whole house, with probably enough left over to do the house again. Never had a problem with the battery.Having said all that, we've now reverted back to our old Dyson plug in vacuum and are going to get the Dyson V8. The reason for this is the very reason we bought Dyson's in the first place,we just didn't think about it when we got the GTech. It comes down to the fact that our daughter suffers from Hay Fever and mild Asthma, after using the GTech for a couple of years we've noticed her symptoms getting worse. It's now we've realised that the Dysons have great HEPA filters that do a good job of cleaning the air. In comparison the GTechs use a simple sponge to filter and have to use a chemical scent to mask the smell. As already mentioned, we really like these vacuums, they just aren't suitable for us. If nobody in house has a breathing condition, then these are great. The Dyson V8's are more expensive, however we can do the floor, stairs and ceilings all with the same device. It cleans the air better than the GTech and the extra money is easily justified by the health benefits to our daughter. If GTech could deliver what the Dyson does then I'm sure the pricing will be similar.

We bought this for its light weight, and no need of a long trailing cord. It was easy to assemble, and charged quickly too. It makes a great job of our carpets, almost 'driving itself' along, as it is very powerful. The charge easily lasts long enough for a medium-sized three bedroom bungalow, and the dust/fluff container is very easy to empty too. The powerful brushes make light work of shifting the short hairs that get onto the carpets from our dog, and it works just as well on tiled floors in the kitchen, with no adjustments necessary. The swivelling handle allows the head to go under some furniture, and makes the process of using the machine very easy too.I personally cannot see the point of having the bright 'headlamps'on the machine, as they consume power, and it would run longer without them. And I do not do the cleaning in the dark!.But you have to consider some downsides, before buying one of these.**It cannot be used on long pile, shag pile, or loose rugs. Flat carpets and surfaces only**** It cannot do stairs, as it has no attachments supplied****The same applies to high corners, or any surface above floor level****Replacement filters and air fresheners are only available from G-Tech, or approved sellers****If your pet has long hair, or you have long pile carpets or rugs, this is NOT suitable**But if you want an easy and handy machine to run over normal surfaces at ground level, then I suggest this is ideal.

Arrived today Air ram k9 and multi k9.Well so far I'm thrilled.Easy to assemble easy to operate light and manouverable.Anyone with Dogs will appreciate the issues with fur everywhere..anyone with a Golden Retriever knows just how impossible their hair is to get up.Love how the air ram k9 just brought my rug up to almost gleaming....Have tried many 'pet'vacuums over the years none as effective as this. The machine itself seems to be very serviceable.. ie you .can easily take various bits off to clean..de fur etc I have great expectations of this machine.A little noisy but great suction very light can be lifted with one hand. Will vac upstairs soon as I have carpets upstairs..wooden floors andrugs downstairs.Love the fresh smell tooUpdate: after a month I am still seriously impressed. My carpets and rugs are coming up beautifully..friends are noticing how good my carpets look.My biggest worry with any cleaner is How it will cope with Dog Fur...my Golden Retriever had a mission to cover everything in his fur...not with this machine. This is the only machine I have had that deals with his constant fur.Admittedly I am cleaning more frequently as it is so easy to use.Walk past pick it up whizz around park it.Go to bed lift it up stairs whizz around park it.Its effortless.

I used to think that The reason our carpets weren't clean was that I am disabled and have trouble vacuuming regularly, having to run over sections again and again to pick things up. With two long-haired girls in the house embedded hair was an issue so I used to have to sweep the carpets first and then go over with the vacuum cleaner to pick up the bits. This probably isn't and apples to apples comparison because my old vacuum cleaner was a compact and didn't have a spinning brush at the carpet level. I went for the K9 because of the claims it was designed for embedded hair and.... wow. Just wow. The cleaning power of this thing is savage!First time I ran it over a bedroom I had to empty it twice because it picked up so much compare to the old vacuum cleaner! Hair, dust, bits, none of a problem, just run it over and back again and it's gone! Also the box is surprisingly compact, the air ram it self is easy to assemble, quick to charge and I was able to do the entire house on Less than half a charge. I can't comment on other competitors et cetera but this, this is really good!

I was a bit apprehensive about buying a Gtech after seeing a video by Dyson themslves (the cheeky swines!) who compared this vacuum to one of Dyson's own plastic abominations. In their video this vacuum performs poorly, however what they don't tell you is that the Gtech is designed to require a "push and pull" method of vacuuming. What this means is you need to push the Gtech forward to capture larger crumbs etc. and then pull it backwards to swipe up fine dust and debris. In practice this works very well; the unit can handle varying sizes of dirt and so doesn't rely on a "middle of the road" suction head which might suffer a Goldilocks problem of requiring dirt to be "just the right size".The battery also lasts very long.I've had it two months and have only recharged once (granted I do only use it for occasional kitchen sweep-ups).Overall I'm impressed.

Update. 2 years on I have had the base unit replaced under warranty and the replacement has developed the very same fault. It won’t turn on/off as dust gets into the unit and it fails. Loved it when it worked. £100 per year to vacuum? The product is Not as great as the marketing sadlyI bought this to replace the dyson cordless that has a terrible battery life. Not only does the gtech have a far superior battery life it has a far superior cleaning ability too. The light weight is also on the floor so you don't have to carry the weight while vacuuming and if you want to stop for a second you can without the gtech falling over. Easy to use easy to empty a total joy to use.If your decision is between the dyson and the gtech pick this one don't make the mistake I did. My dyson now does the stairs if the battery lasts long enough.

I didn't purchase this here. I actually contacted the company directly and they kindly offered me a discount on this product. The need to write this review here was to inform you fine people that I think that not only is the product is brilliant, their customer service is amazing.I had a small issue, which was not only resolved promptly, but with understanding and consideration to my circumstances. The product has been clearing my hardwood and carpet for almost a year now...it is lightweight compared to my old...heavy....back breaking henry (Great hoover...but a hassle to lug around the house and up the stairs) The Gtech transitions flawlessly between tile/carpet/hardwood.The battery is long enough to hoover my whole house....twice....before needing charge. If you can afford it,buy it, you won't regret it.

The motor on my first K9 developed a horrible grinding sound inside two weeks but Gtech replaced it the very next day and the replacement has been fine. Great suction. Doesn't get into edges and corners but then uprights were never good at that. The lack of a hose on the Gtech makes that problematic though and you really need a handheld or an addition hoover with a hose to do the edges. I splashed out of the K9 handheld. The handheld suction isn't so good as the floor model and I may query that with Gtech, for instance it struggles with cobwebs, although it picks up damn near everything else! Maybe it's the fine and sticky nature of the cobwebs as they end up wrapped around the edge of thetube rather than going into it.

I bought this and the portable version direct from Gtec. So far it all works well. As a lifelong Dyson fan, l defected bacasue of the ridiculous prices charged by Dyson nowadays. I like that l don't have to continuously hold a trigger on this machine and also that the battery lasts longer. The headlights are also a boon. It is easier to use and very efficient. My one big moan however is the lack of a wall mounted charger dock like Dyson has, with space for a couple of tools. Both freestanding and portable machines have to sit somewhere. The provided car kit which comes in a bag also needs a home and is less likely to be used often because of its inconvenient storage.

I also own the Gtech handheld as well as the the upright and as with the handheld I believe Gtech need go that extra mile and give Gtech users the option to purchase a plug in cord should they need to use it for a longer period of time than the lithium battery will allow or at least offer a discount on purchasing a spare battery at the time of purchasing the vacuum cleaner so you've got it ready to go when the battery runs out. Also I'd love the option to turn the light off on both machines to conserve the battery power. Other than that I love it! Makes my job so much easier, suction is great, not at all heavy and beats tripping over cords!

Had the original Gtech and loved it but it finally died so I bought the newer K9 model. I found it easy to assemble and love that it is much better to empty, you can see when the vacuum needs emptying,it is easy to clean the filter and much easier to get the brush out to clean. It is powerful, works well and I also like the lights on the front as especially on hard flooring you can see every bit of dust to clean up. I am very pleased with it. My only negative is that I bought it from Amazon warehouse and it came in good condition with just a few scratches and no manual which was expected but it had no spare filter which I did not expect.

This product is not the cheapest of the stick hoovers but is very good at its job. I have two golden retrievers and wanted a something lighter than a hoover to tidy up each day. There are a lot of these stick hoovers and they usually end up falling over and breaking, which is what happened to me at first. I had paid £129 for a well known brand which kept falling over and finally broke the dust drum. The GTECH however is strong enough to stand on its own while still being light and manoeuvrable. It has good suction and is easy to empty. The dust drum is easy to take apart and wash. Overall well worth the money.

20.2.2020

A bit plasticity but needed to be that way to make it very light. Super easy to use and quite powerful. Not as powerful as a mains powered Dyson but to be expected. If you value ease of use this is the best upright without the weight at the top like the handheld battery types. Not cluttered with attachments like others if you don't want them. Best to also keep a cheap cylinder vacuum for times you need a crevice tool as this cannot do everything but what it does do, it does very well.I think the Gtech are a little to expensive at 250 for the K9 and 200 would be a fair price. Hence loss of 1 star for cost.
