Received this very promptly once ordered I've not sharpen it yet ,but the plane is a nice bit of kit well worth the money I being in wood working for over 30 yearsAnd handled a lot of tools so you get a feel for quality tools, this isIts not completely perfect...!! I have noticed a few imperfections but they are minor items which I feel I can sort out,Hence four stars ! This is a good all round plane which I feel it will become my favourite go to plane for everyday use( update 11/01/18 I've been using this plane for the last few monthsGreat bit of kit needed a bit of tinkering with, but worth it has the lightness of a smoothing planeBut the body of a Jack plane bought a new blade for it but not used it yet ...!!

I know! I bought a Faithfull plane at under forty pounds! What did I expect!.. Well as it turns out, far less than I got! It`s a beaut`!! Yes I had to give the blade a little attention (But come on! Lets not pretend that`s a chore!) But the sole itself was perfect! It cuts like a dream, yes I could have dropped lucky on this one but trust me, good luck and me don`t cross paths often, so I doubt that one! Would I recommend these? You bet I would! Having bought Stanley planes that were disgraceful and took a lot of time to make good, this was a pleasure! I have only one criticism and that is the blade adjustment needs care! Do not discount these planes! They are true value for money.

Fantastic value for money. Ok it's not high tolerance stuff but this is a really solid and well designed tool that does the job it's designed to do and I suspect will last. The finish is actually quite good and the blade is even reasonably sharp out of the box! Presumably a cast from old record or stanley tools of yester year that's been acquired and put back into service by faithful (whoever they are..).That said, mine had a slight misalignment in the blade grind (easily corrected or compensated for with the controls) and I had to send the first deliver back as it was broken in transit.

Doubtless there will be many out there who will criticize Faithfull planes as being technically inferior, however, if the blade is correctly sharpened and set up there is no reason why their products shouldn't perform as well as their more expensive counterparts. Often steel quality is highlighted ie. more expensive planes have harder steel, maybe, but if a hidden nail or screw is accidentally caught it is easier to resharpen relatively maleable steel than risk fracture or severe chipping with a higher carbon content blade. To summarize: it does what it says on the box.

Master Craftsman 30 years experience . This is a good tool for work on sash windows and doors Ideal for work on Victorian housesThe working faces are accurately machined. Handles wood not varnished not sweaty to use. Blade is easy to sharpen and adjust better to sharpen easily and often -use WD 40 on a flat medium stone . Sharpen until burr can be felt on back of blade then remove burr with blade FLAT on stone For good results all tools must be sharp. Very good value for money . I recommend this plane for quality joinery and maintenance work.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and feel of this plane considering the price.After applying the final bevel to the blade, which took seconds on a 1000grit stone. It was producing paper thin shavings. (Pine)The adjusting mechanisms could better, there is a lot of back lash in them.Casting not machined "perfectly square", but very close and with a very little bit of fettling could be spot on.All in all I believe this to be very good value for the money and would recommend it. (so good I have just ordered their no 7 plane)

This tool is no longer easily available from the better known manufacturers such as Stanley and Record, any that are, will be very old stock. It is not the same quality as my Stanley planes, but they were bought 40 to 50 years ago. I have never had the need for this particular type of plane until now but it will do the job and is less than half the price I had expected to have to pay. My Stanley planes are not the quality of my Norris plane but you get what you pay for and this plane is very very good value.

the plane is well cast, the iron needed sharpening and setting up, (but you do this for all) I have large hands and this tool handled well for me and was comfortable to use for prolonged usage. you could upgrade the iron with a better steel, for high quality work; at a cost of £60 bringing the cost of both would still be less than £200 then buying the equivalent item. but if I had £300 to spend I would get the better quality one with a lifetime guarantee.

Nice one from Faithfull, very good value for money - the body is well machined and flat with very small tolerance, thanks to the its high shoulders and accurate 90,° I find this plane comfortable to use with the shooting board. The blade arrives sharp enough to use right out of the box, the weight is on the light side, I would prefer a heavier plane. little tweaking is needed here and there but hey, who doesent?I recommend.

good plane,looks well and feels nice in you're hand , the blade / iron was sharpish straight out of the box (surprised ) after a little time sharpening it works as well as my other planes ( faithful no 6, no 3,and 2 block planes ) .the blade is equal to the sole and doesn't stick out either side. yes there are better planes out there but there are a lot worse and for the price .i would not hesitate buying faithful again

The thing is smooth but needs a good adjustment on the blade before use, side escape for shavings can get clogged so watch it, and blade is marginally wider than the sole foot so may need a slight file back to be usable as a good rebate. mine after some remedial attention works very well as a rebate and works very well as a smoothing or jack plane.

This is a very good plane for the money considering you can’t buy a new Stanley No10. It works well and feels fairly robust. The down sides are that the body work of the plane seems damaged but not in transport more the mould is off. The metal on the iron is also a little soft but all tools seem to be like that these days.

I rarely buy Faithful products as they're often lacking quality. This however is a great plane. It looks good, feels good, and is of a decent quality for the price. Would buy again.

The product is quite good but the blade needs a lot of attention to get it to any type of condition that it needs to be able to be used for the purpose that it was intended for.

plane sole was flat, planed ok out the box though they recommend sharpening 30 degree micro bevel. after putting a 35 degree bevel planned fantastic.
