Ewbank - Model 830 Manual carpet sweeper.I had a carpet sweeper years ago before being dragged along the ‘suction’ route. Noise as I get older becomes more and more a issue, most of what I buy now is not electric or petrol. I did very nearly buy a small hand held re-chargeable vac to just pick up minor dust / bits that are just a pain to get the big vac out for, but after deliberating for over 6 months about the cost, the noise, the environmental issue (charging / disposing of batteries) I decided to go for a Ewbank. I had used my sister-in-laws a few weeks before when I was drilling some small holes in her walls and the re-chargeable battery in her vac and the spare were flat!I was surprised how well the Ewbank picked up even plaster dust - not perfect but pretty good. I have used my purchase a few times now and am glad I bought it. it does minor jobs very well indeed and is so much easier to get out than my wired vacs, which sometimes would put me off cleaning up minor spills and fluff.One comment on Amazon from a buyer said it was not good on tiled / lino / wooden floors although he did rate it on carpet, BUT in fact the instructions clearly state this is not intended for solid floors, and that the HI / LO settings are for close pile of heavy pile carpets and on those it works well. It is now a few months since my purchase and I use it more or less daily to keep on top of things, mainly a black carpet which is a through route from kitchen so gets a lot of use. I am still delighted with it, and being so light t is easy to get out and use. One thing you need to watch is emptying it, as it picks up more than you think which, if you ignore will start depositing things back on the floor. This is not a fault, quite the opposite as it shows just how efficient it is!It is now October 2019, 12 months since my purchase and I am still delighted with this, I use it daily and all I said in my reviews above still holds true, a great and handy product.September 2020 and the Ewbank is still serving me well, I have only used my vac in the room that I mostly use the Ewbank 5 times in a year, just to get into the edges where the carpet meets skirting board.I think it worth mentioning the reliabilty, since purchase nothing has broken or fallen off, and nothing is showing any sign of wear.

This was purchased to replace an older model that was my mothers, it must be thirty years old or more. The white rubber around the wheel had failed and was starting to break off on the odd occasion, but I could not find replaceable wheels, not even from Ewbank, yet the wheels on the new one are exactly the same? A big question mark against Ewbank!!This replacement unit works very well, my wife is surprised how much it actually picks up, the lever for emptying the little dustpans is a bit stiff though, this may ease a little with use.The unit is pretty solid and we find it a breeze to push back and forth, we do prefer the handle on the old unit as it is a one piece steel pole,this handle comes in three sections and is slimmer than the old pole.It is a shame that the old pole does not fit the new sweeper, as the new pole does have a slight tendency to work lose, if you don't push the sweeper straight or sweep with a twisting action.,I am considering using some screw lock / thread lock on the joints if it persists, as this would not make it a permanent joint, more like semi permanent joint.Overall, considering, price, quality of product and performance, we think that this does deserve five stars

To all intents and purposes, this product DOES do the job for lightweight cleaning (it wouldn't replace the weekly clean with a vacuum cleaner). It picks up well, and is lightweight to lift and to use and empties easily with the button on top of the sweeper. However, i have found that it also has a tendency to drop some of the contents from one or both containers while being lifted - despite carrying it carefully to the bin. Not a major issue, but still a bit annoying when you have to redo small areas again. Also, the pole/stick keeps coming apart because the sweeping action unscrew at the points where they join. Again, not a major issue, but annoying! The sweeper does have edge to edge cleaning,but is not always capable of collecting things (dry dog food) from the edges. I haven't found it too great on my kitchen floor. Again, it can pick up some things not too badly, but I still need to use a broom afterwards in most cases. Having said all that, I am happy with my Ewbank, and it is certainly useful for picking up crumbs and minor debris off the carpets, and is easy to use. I like the colour too!

Dislikes; Handle has a tendency to fall down too easily when parked which if near a plain wall can mark, also ornaments are at risk of being knocked off if near...Top section of handle, (the plastic bit at the very top) twists round when it ought to be fixed. On carpets with medium to long pile I have found it easier to use the setting for short pile carpets due to the drag caused and the judder when pulling the sweeper back.Not as effective on carpet tiles as carpets I have found.Likes; Is a rubust product, easy to empty and it does what it is meant to do, pick up things from the carpets easily without a tendancy to "throw" them out again. shame about the handle falling over so easily,can be frustrating having to bend down so often to return it to the upright position.Would have earned five stars but for that design fault, hence just four

Ordered this because, I know Ewbank are a good make, & find it useful to have a carpet sweeper because, it's so much easier than getting the vacuum cleaner out & your able to clean up a mess with the minimum of effort.Also it's more energy efficient which is especially useful in my own small way of saving the planet.However, I had to return my Ewbank when it arrived but, only because, I had one purchased as a present.The seller was very quick in replying about my reason for return & polite. With clear insructions about how to return with date & time suitable for me.Return was arranged by the seller through Yodell, the driver was pleasent & courteous.So I would recommend purchasing through this company because,if something isnt right, they do provide goid customer service.

I used to own a carpet sweeper and didnt realise how much I missed it until I found lugging the heavy vacuum cleaner out of the cupboard just for a quick tidy up. I am so glad I chose this one instead of a lightweight vacuum cleaner. It does the job of tidying up living areas in between using the vacuum cleaner. It works on the kitchen tiles as well as carpets. True it doesn't get into the corners or right up close to the wall but it is powered by me and I am feeling good about the amount of electricity I saving by not charging up batteries. I have only one negative observation. Emptying is a bit fiddly - You have to unscrew the handle and hold it over the waste bin whilst holding the lever open.Really a small price to pay for a neat little, cheap to run sweeper.

Ewbank are a brand that has been around for a long time, so I decided to go with the brand, sorry to say that the quality control is not up to the standard I would expect. My Ewbank hand sweeper has a control knob that you move to set for either carpets or short carpets, carpet tiles and hard floors, this was so hard to move I was very concerned that I would break it of as I had to really force it ti the setting for hard floors, as I only have short carpets and floor tiles I will just leave it on that setting, however if I had long pile carpets I would have had to send it back.

Ideal lightweight sweeper for an 80yrs plus lady, who can't manage a vacuum cleaner. It was easy to assemble the handle (we used a bit of gaffer tape to ensure it doesn't come loose), and emptying it is easy too. The lady is delighted with it and says it picks up well. It won't totally trace a vacuum, but is ideal for our team's needs whilst we are unable to go help her. The gaffer tape was not essential, but belt and braces because, a reviewer mentioned handle increasing during use. No problem with recommending this. Will be buying one for myself too!

I inherited my nan's Ewbank, which must be donkeys year old, thought I would treat myself to a new model, it works just the sameA little bit stiffer to push than my really old one, but thats to be expected. The new one is easier to empty. I am in a wheelchair and can use this easily, just to keep the hard floors and carpets tidy until someone vacuums for me once a week. You can buy this model with confidence. Oh and the handle pole can be unscrewed which the old one didn't which is useful. What I like is no changing plug sockets either.

I like everything about it! Lightweight, quiet (I live in sheltered housing, where if I choose to hoover late evening - it would disturb people) This handy little sweeper can be used anytime. It takes up very little space, and the easily unscrewable handle means it can be stored in a very small space. Does the job required, reducing my need to vacuum for that deeper clean. I think it would be superb for the holiday homes/caravans where a vacuum would be a nuisance to have to pack. Personally, I love it for my newly carpeted studio flat.

This Ewbank is a great carpet sweeper. The one thing that let's it down really badly is the stupid handle. It's in 3 separate pieces that screw into each other. Only problem is its a steel bolt that screws into a soft plastic screw system. Despite being extra careful not to over tighten it, it comes loose constantly at every joint except the one in the sweeper head. Also the rubber hand grip doesn't stop moving either. Which lets this little work horse down emensely. Fix the problems with the handle and it would be excellent.

I find this sweeper a little challenging to use as I was used to a single sweep sweeper, this one sweeps in both directions, so its quicker to use. I can only give 4 stars as I also have a problem with the handle unscrewing as I am using it, not only unscrewing at the joins in the pole handle, but it also unscrews from the sweeper its self. Apart from this .. it works really well and once I have found a way to keep the handle attached to the sweeper I will get back and share how to fix it for you.

I wanted a better sweeper than the basic one I have.This one has adjustable settings for different carpet thickness and works really well.My only criticism is the way handle attaches to the sweeper, poor design.Kept coming loose so I had to keep tightening it only for it to pop out, but nothing that epoxy and gaffer tape could not fix.So my bottom part of handle is now permanently attached to sweeper but that is not a problem for me but why I only gave it 4 stars, when it should have had 5.

This is brilliant better than my last one ☝️ had to throw it away it stopped picking up crumbs from my carpet it was just dragging the crumbs and making it worse I did clean the brushes I always do as I have long hair and I do have a cat ? to, this one as 2 settings which is good, it’s so lightweight to and my handle never moves so it all good, I use this between vacuuming moves around my carpet very well can’t fault it, I love everything about it love the colour to its red ??
