I was a student, living with a girl who put a load of kombucha powder down the kitchen sink and I think it compacted. When we'd turn on the washing machine, grey water would fill our sink (the blockage was below the exit pipe of the washing machine, somewhere where the sink and washing machine pipes connected).I tried using:A normal "cup" plungerA "sink snake" wireTwo or three types of chemicals I bought from Waitrose (not simultaneously)A device which I'd pump and then would blast pressurised air into the pipesNone of them worked. But what did work was this big plunger. But it wasn't just the plunger: it was also a better strategy, combined with the plunger. What I needed to do was open the pipe connecting the washing machine (WM) to the pipes below the sink, and block the connection somehow. This was because, if you imagine the pipes going from the sink and WM forming a 'V' structure and going down, without a blockage the water would be plunged down the sink and into the other part of the 'V', toward the washing machine. But that was wrong. The water needed to go down, towards the blockage.I did something a little bit different, but here is how I would block a similar pipe in the future: First, disconnect the WM connecting pipe at the point where it joins with the sink pipe. Next, put a plastic bag (Sainbury's for durability) over the WM pipe. Then, connect it back together again, but with the plastic bag like a condom over the WM pipe. The plastic bag will be completely blocking the connection from the WM to the sink pipes (and visa-versa).With the plastic-bag blockage in place, I filled the sink and the pipes with water, had my flatmate block the overflow valve with her hand, and used both hands on the plunger to compress as much water as possible into the pipes. The increased pressure was pressing against me and my roommate at the top of the sink, the artificial blockage from the pipe to the washing machine, and the real blockage further down. Thankfully, the real blockage was the weaker of the three, meaning the water burst through it and cleared the pipes.I think that a lesser plunger would never have managed the job that this plunger did. It would have been too difficult to use a lesser plunger to create the water pressure necessary for the job. This plunger is like having a gigantic bellows at your disposal.

....... or I'll be b(el)lowed!I bought this on the strength of other reviews on the site, and because I was feeling at risk from repetitive strain injury from fishing family hair out of shower wastes on a weekly basis. I had also been using various proprietary drain cleaners and gels, together with my existing armoury of an old-fashioned (small) plunger and a Draper 'water jet' style plunger, but a bit like inefficient pain-killers these were only giving me short-term relief in my on-going battle against slow-flowing wastes. Then this arrived. Monument by name, monumental by nature. Small it most certainly isn't, so if you are looking for a discreet and understated plunger then this will not be for you. It's big enough to almost demand a room of its own, but then for what it does it is almost worthy of one. A couple of suction pumps on the shower waste using the bellows action, and the amount of hair and gunk that it brought up were impressive to say the least. No more fishing with a plumber's worm for me after this! It does appear to be one instance of where size really is important, as it showed up the other plungers in my armoury for the ineffective charlatans that I now know them to be. Inspired by the experience of the now free-flowing water that was no longer accumulating around my toes in the shower tray, I set off to try its power against other waste pipes, wielding it like Excalibur. The beast was again unleashed to good effect, assorted bath and sink plugholes being de-gunked and returned to their original free-flowing glory. So, you get the picture; this is a highly effective bit of kit in an area where I have been used to mediocrity in the past. The handle unscrews ("For easy cleaning"), and it generates the suction power of a limpet on steroids. The material would seem to be quite durable if you take reasonable care and store it properly between uses, and it will certainly work out economically as against buying repeat purchases of drain-cleaning products. If you are in the market for a plunger, and have room to store it, then this should be high up your list. I already feel as if this product owes me nothing, because it works so effectively.

It happens, whether it's toothpaste and soap or whether, like me, you suspect the actual culprit is that exceedingly expensive cleanser you wash your face with eventually the sink water starts flowing slower. And slower. And slower. However for the first time mine came to a complete and resounding stop. First I reached for my usual fix, the one that loves the jobs I hate, to no avail. The gel just kind of floated in the standing water in the pipe (even after I'd cleared out as much as I could) and then I tried the au natural method with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. Again nothing but a fizzy mess that resembled a Year 8 science experiment. So I searched for a solution,so many blog posts told me to "simply" unscrew the doo dad and pull it from the sink. Well I don't know about you but I have a pretty basic sink and everything is stuck down. And then that word popped up on my 35th list of tips for clearing a sink (I swear everyone really trusts that bicarb to do the job) ....plunger. This led me swiftly to amazon and the reviews led me to purchase this monster. What a monster it is. Reviews telling you it's large can't prepare you. Pictures next to rulers cannot prepare you. This is the Godzilla of plumbing accessories but let me tell you it smashes through clogs like a giant lizard in Tokyo. It was a little tougher than other reviews promised me but I can only assume this was because of the sheer size of my clog. And thank god I followed the advice to cover the overflow. WHATEVER YOU DO COVER THE OVERFLOW.However after 5 or so minutes of good solid plunging (think of it like performing CPR - do it to the beat of Staying Alive) the clog is no more. For the first time in over a week I wash my hands, brush my teeth and use my ridiculously overpriced cleanser in the bathroom again instead of standing over the kitchen sink every morning. And in future I can use my green giant at the first sign of a slow flow thereby never needing to put money in the pocket of Mr Muscle ever again.Master Plunger indeed!

On first buying this item I received a flimsier red colored plunger with face diameter 12.5cm, and not the Monument brand. This Monument plunger has face diameter 15cm (although the listing said 12.5cm). I refunded the red plunger and got the genuine one for just a couple of pound more.Though I've not used it yet, this plunger is impressive - it is sturdy and well-built, and with massive suction. It is made by the company Monument Tools in the USA. They also make a Mini version of this plunger (which has face diameter 12.5cm) which is for hand basins, model no M-M3, and a toilet plunger, model MP1600 - I actually decided to buy all three, and saved on postage from seller TOOLCHESTDIRECT LTD.These plungers are all patented designs.I decided to buy the plungers after calling a plumber to fix a blocked hand basin and bathtub. It cost £80 for 10min job, though I don't grudge the plumber guy, as he at least turned up when he said he would at short notice, and was very courteous. At first he used a long electric powered plumber's snake, then used a Monument plunger - I had never seen such an immense plunger before!I figured for the price its handy to keep these plungers on hand not just to save a few quid, but to fix a blockage straight away, and keep the plumber for more involved work.Be sure you get the genuine Monument brand, as the imitations are not as sturdy or good quality. They come with a label with the company's web site address on it.UPDATE 16/1/14I have just seen my first use of the plungers - using the mini plunger to clear the overflow channel on my bathroom sink - by putting sink plug in and using plunger on the overflow opening to clear it. The blockage was causing a bad odor, and this completely fixed it - a great relief as I thought I had a drain problem of some kind. The plungers have thus paid for themselves already as this avoided having to call a plumber.

I was impressed by the reviews for this thing and having now bought and tried it I can say that I heartily agree, along with one warning: this thing is NOT small. That said, its capacious mouth means it has managed to clear every slow-draining sink in my house (there were a few) in seconds, where dozens of litres of various bleaches and drain-unblockers had failed. The corrugated chamber means you get a huge amount of pressure with each push and pull, so make sure you remember to block any overflow holes in the sink/bath with a (gloved) hand - the first time I forgot and propelled nasty water the whole way across the room! And then felt sad.Although it will take up a fair bit of space in a cupboard and looks like some kind of cross between a space-hopper and a pogo stick, it is ridiculously good at what it does. What I had taken to be a case of bad pipes turns out to have been a number of very stubborn clogs that are now (and very suddenly) a thing of the past. And by way of a minor proxy review/anecdote:Stopping at the pub on my way home from work (that's where it was delivered - I haven't decided to tackle the world's plumbing problems!) with this sticking out of my bag, the landlord came over and said "Is that a massive plunger or are you just pleased to see me?" Once I'd assured him that, while I'd welcome a pint, it was just a massive plunger in my bag, recognising the distinctive colour, he added: "Is that that big corrugated one? Got one myself. Best plunger in the world mate. Stupidly good. You made a good choice."I couldn't agree more.

If you have ever used a plunger it's unlikely it was anything like this one....My bath regularly blocks up and has since I moved in here 10 years ago but it's got lot worse an more regular the past 4-5 years, not helped by the fact that I no longer use shampoo but wash my hair in conditioner instead and have long curly hair so all my loose strands only fall off in the shower and not during the course of a day like my straight haired friends.I have to buy drain un-blocker every couple of weeks and I use two bottles each time - what a waste of money!!This gadget arrived yesterday, I didn't bother attaching the handle.I was concerned this might be a two person job to cover the overflow too but...nope..all was fine an little effort was needed. This did the job without the handle - the top of the suction part is sealed anyway so no real nee for a handle. This did the job in 2 tries and I didn't need someone else there to plug the overflow - dead easy!It took less than a minute and the past few weeks my feet have been having a bathe during a shower..um..up to my ankles... lol!For a toilet - never use a plunger for toilet.A wire coat hanger and a few kettles of boiled water and some flushing is all you need - plus a bit of patience 2 or 3 tries and you should be all clear. It's worked for me!Please don't use boiling water on sinks or baths though as it can damage pipes - there is no existing water in there to cool things down. This little gadget is by far the BEST thing I have ever purchased!!Plus for under £9 when I clicked 'buy' - perfect!

Outstanding product - highly recommend to everyone.I chose this particular plunger out of all the products on Amazon mainly because it's much bigger - the actual "plunging" space is much larger than normal plunger.I have a double kitchen sink which was blocked a couple of times. First time I paid 150 euro for a plumber to unblock it. Second time I decided to take things into my own hands. Spent about 50 Euro on various chemical unblocking products but all useless. Then I decided to give plunger a go. Delivery took 2 days. Then I realized one plunger is not enough for my double sink - water is simply pushed from one sink to the other through the U-shape tube connecting the two sinks.Apparently the blockage is not in the U-shape tube, but in sewer pipe further down the line. So, I went ahead and bought a SECOND plunger, same product. Pushing and pulling both plunger at the same time revealed another issue - on the side of right-hand sink there is an overflow opening, which again lets out water and air. Now I have to use a few cloth to block the overflow opening. Voila! This time it worked perfectly. A few plunges the water clears up, such a blessed sight! So TWO plungers for my double sink costing 30 Euros in total (including delivery) have saved me another 150 euro, and potentially hundreds more in the future. This is a very powerful and solid product that I will recommend to everyone. If you have a blockage, please waste no money on the useless chemicals! The physical plunger is definitely the way to go.

Used this to unblock a stubborn shower drain. Modern drains from the shower in new build properties tend to be the P trap type, which are impossible to clear with probes or drain snakes. Usually we use the chemical drain treatments but in one of our showers this had failed to remove the blockage. A few pumps with this device and the blockage was removed! Beware however that the suction will draw sewage smells back into your bathroom, but it is at least a noticeable indicator that the plunger is working.Suitably impressed we tried the bath which was draining slower than usual. Again with a few pumps this was cleared too. Due to the size of the accordion section a lot of air is moved with each pump,so not a lot of effort is required. It isn't as big as I was expecting either, its of similar size to a toilet brush sitting in its storage container! The lower part can be unscrewed from the handle but it takes quite a lot of unscrewing to separate the two, so its easier to leave it assembled.I haven't tried using this on a sink yet, or indeed a toilet, but with the price of drain chemicals and the frequency that drains can get blocked with family use, the initial cost of this device will save you money in the long run and easily pay for itself. The only other slight issue is trying to clean the inside of the plunger after the job is done can be a pain with the multiple ridges of plastic. However, this is a tool that should be in everybody's home maintenance kit.

First I will start by saying 'WOW' !Now, to be completely honest with you, I was rather sceptical about this item. Even reading all the brilliant reviews, I'm sure you can understand that it's difficult to believe something working sooo wonderfully - - BUT please believe me when I say that this item does what it says on the tin..!Our bath was blocked, and it got to the point where taking a shower also meant that your feet got to have a little soak in their own miniature bath, as the water started to mount up, because of the 'blockage'. My other 'alf, being a bit clever 'n' that, had a look at the pipe etc, but noticed that it wasnt blocked that he could see, so obviously the blockage was further along the pipe.Same as some of the other reviews here say. We tried liquid blockers etc, but to no avail! So, having read the reviews here (thankyou, thankyou, thankyou) I decided to spend the £8.22 and purchase one of these for us to try. And, I'm gona say it again - 'WOW' ! It worked! We did it a couple of times, covering the overflow, as other reviews recommended, and it worked! So, if you are reading this, wondering whether this item works, and, as I previously thought, probably doesn't, then please believe me when I say it does. Go for it, you won't regret it! I reckon this is one of the best creations ever! <ee>Can't recommend it enough! :-)))A++++++

Monument 1459W Master Plunger Sink and Waste Pipe Unblocker - 125mm (5in) - I paid £11Worked first time! I used a drain cleaner first and let it stand for a few hours and then used the plunger to try and get a slow draining shower opened up again. I could literally feel the "blast" as I plunged down the first time and it cleared the blockage straight away. Super impressed and happy. I've poured litres of various drain cleaners down the shower without any success, but this did the trick first time.It seems of very good quality. Creates a good suction and it's very easy to plunge repeatedly if needed. Easy to clean too.Recommend!Edit: August '18,I've since moved to a very old house with ancient pipework and very very slow draining bath water. I poured some diluted caustic soda and let it stand for the recommended time. I then opened the bath tap (the water just pooled, not draining) and started plunging non stop for about a minute. Since that, the water has been draining at the speed of lightning! Job done.I think the fact that this is so much bigger than the standard / traditional plunger, each plunge gives so much more blasting power. It's great quality and looks like it will last for a very long time.

Our bathroom sink always seems to block up, it could be the combination of toothpaste build up and shaving, but you always tell when it needs seeing to when you pull the plug and it takes a while for the water to go down with a few air bubbles coming out of the plug hole. I have tried many of the sink unblocks that you pour down and leave overnight. These have proved effective for a few weeks then it starts all aver again. I though about a plunger and this one got good reviews. A little more expensive that liquid unblocks, decided to give it a try - after all cheap and not working is no good. I filled the sink with water and put the plunger over it, depressed a few times and noticed a slight difference.I then realised that I read that for better results cover the overflow in the basin. I put my hand over and tried again. WOW. The suction was amazing and it bought up black debris, sand and plastic???? The water quickly went down, and also doing a vortex as it did - something never seen in this sink. Totally amazing, quick, environmentally friendly, excellent.A bit bigger that I thought it would be, but it worked so am completely happy.

Having spent so much money on Mr Muscle .... (who did a great job for one day then went on holiday) ... I decided that I needed something stronger and something more old school. So went for this plunger. The packaging was bigger than my Xbox and at first view I thought there is no way this thing is going to work... this thing is "Monument" in size... every pun intended. The first time I tried it, it spat water out of the overflow. I have never used a plunger before and didn't know how everything worked. So after changing my clothes a few times I figured out that I should stuff the overflow (which is also a great big hole ... who designs these things? ) with a rag... Within a few seconds I started to feel it working.By the second "plunge" i looked inside the gapping hole and saw mounds, and mounds of hair . I dread to think how long it's been in there for .. excuse the pun. My sink is now happy, and so am I , my sink is now not taking a whole season of Game of Thrones to finally empty. . My son who is 6 said , "If it works you should keep it, this is your reward". I am still yet to teach him the concept of e-commerce .

Amazing plunger. Worked a treat on a blocked shower drain. My husband loves the shower in this particular bathroom, but the blocked drain meant he could not enjoy his power showers any more. The plumbing costs as consulted with 2 plumbers was prohibitive, so we just left it as it while we tried searching for a solution on the internet. Having researched all the different plungers available on the market, we decided to go with this one mainly because it looked different and had so many nice reviews. I did warn my husband that it was a bit more expensive than conventional plungers but he unexpectedly told me to get it anyway, because he said it would be an investment and if it worked, the price would not matter compared to calling out a plumber. So we got it, and tried it on the shower drain. Amazing results. So much muck was removed from the drain that we were shocked! But we really actually enjoyed doing it because it was so satsfying to see the drain unblock steadily. Now my husband can once again enjoy his favourite shower and we are no longer confined to using just one bathroom.

Although purchased by another member of the household to clear a kitchen sink and its drainage pipes that get blocked by other peoples' kitchen waste (shared drainage in a multi-level building), I have seen a very similar or identical device used by professional plumbers and it certainly can do the job. The bell is large enough to force a huge volume of air down the pipes sufficient to clear most blockages, although careful use of caustic soda may help in the worst cases as an initial 'cure'.100% plastic in construction, it appears well-made and sufficiently solid to survive occasional use over several years but it will not fit in smaller hand sinks such as those we have which are not 'full size'.However, it should work with most shower drains as they have a larger amount of surrounding space. If it works in your situation(s), it is a lot cheaper than calling out a plumber or drain clearing service.
