Any vacuum cleaner is only as good as your motivation to use it - and in my case, vacuuming is a job I can very happily overlook. At least this used to be the case until I bought this little GTECH sweeper...We have a very efficient 'Henry' vacuum cleaner which does an excellent job - or it would if I could be bothered to lug it around the house, plug it in, vac a room, lug it to the next, plug it in etc. The reality is that using a conventional vacuum cleaner is a tedious chore and it can take a couple of hours to vac the house. This Gtech has happily put an end to all that.I keep it in the hall, charge it after each use and then it's always ready to do a quick sweep up.I can do the entire house in 10-15 minutes and it's easy. The sweeper is lightweight so no need to lug it around and, best of all, it's rechargeable so I can use it anywhere, including outside in my motorhome. It might not be quite as effective as industrial-Henry but it picks up fresh fluff from our carpets daily - in fact, it actually picks up so much that I wonder where exactly it has all come from. It's quick and easy to use, sucks up a surprising (and rather shocking!) amount of dust, hair, fluff, crumbs, grit etc and is a doddle to empty via its slide-out dust tray.Stairs can be a bit more tricky but I just run it along the length of each step, backwards and forwards - it's a bit awkward but it does the job. Because it doesn't have any accessories, it isn't going to vac upholstery, chairs, curtains or cobwebs off the walls nor will it get into a few very tight spaces reached only via a hose but there has to be a compromise somewhere. The compromise here is that the house is now vacuumed almost daily instead of monthly (at best), the carpets always have that 'just vac'd' appearance and vacuuming is no longer a chore. The design is its best feature - keeping the brush roller and dustpan close together, means it doesn't need to be a high-powered beast - the dust only has to be swept a few centimetres rather than sucked along a tube and upwards into a higher dustbag. My only quibble is the swivel fitting to the rear of the dustpan. It's made from plastic, is put under some strain in use, particularly when the sweeper is dragged sideways across a floor, and I fear it might break at some point. I note that replacement parts are readily available - good to know they're there if needed; not so good to suspect they might be regularly sold.Minor quibbles aside, I would have no hesitation in buying the same again and if hibernated-Henry ever fails then I'd replace him with the high-power Gtech Air-Ram sweeper rather than another plug-in, lug-around vac. For now, however, I am very happy with my SW02.Update: May 2020: the drive belt stretched and needed replacement. Alas, the sweeper has since been updated by GTech and now uses a larger belt which doesn't fit its predecessor. Disappointing but after years of excellent service I happily bought the newer version of the SW02 and would still happily recommend it.

On first use the motor sounded feeble. It's logical though; most of the power and noise on a vacuum cleaner is down to suction not turning the brush bar and you don't need anywhere near that power to turn a brush only. However it picked up a lot of dust and hair that my big hoover had obviously missed for quite some time. This brushes, it doesn't suck, and it picks up hair etc that has got tangled in the carpet fibres and that the hoover suction has no effect on. It is ultra lightweight, incredibly so, and being cordless is so much quicker and easier to run over the carpet daily. So the house is cleaner and the main hoover is only needed for big jobs. Emptying the machine is really simple and takes seconds, where the big hoover is a major operation to avoid most of the contents being redistributed on the carpet and clothes. But there are some problems I've found. Long hairs get tangled on the brush bar easily, slowing it down and requiring regular checks and cleaning. The leaflet in the box was missing critical information, like how to remove the front visor before you can remove the brush bar for cleaning. The online instruction book is a lot better so find it and print it out. When dismantling for cleaning the plastic feels like something is going to snap off / break. For the price the plastic should be better quality and the securing clips designed to make dismantling and cleaning a lot easier. I have very short pile carpet and the machine is perfect for that but I can imagine it would struggle with many types of carpeting and rugs. It was OK on the hard floor in the kitchen but frankly not as effective as a long handled dustpan and brush that can get into nooks and crannies better.I'm very happy with the purchase for what I want the machine to do. I can imagine it would be fantastic for the elderly and infirm as it is so lightweight. But it is for light cleaning that complements a proper vacuum not a substitute for one. And it will not be so effective for some types of carpet.Added 6 weeks on... Just had to recharge it for the first time and I've got into the habit of using it most days. I made the mistake of getting too close to the floor length curtains on the patio door which got drawn in and made some horrible noises but no damage done in the end. I avoid loose threads and long hairs that wind around the brush bar now, having learned that lesson. Overall not disappointed with the buying decision.

EDIT!!!!I PHONED G-TECH DIRECTLY, AND ADVISED THEM I DIDN'T WANT TO RETURN THE WHOLE SWEEPER TO AMAZON- G-TECH SENT ME A BRAND NEW (AND FULLY CHARGED) REPLACEMENT BATTERY FREE OF CHARGE - IT ARRIVED ONLY A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER MY PHONE CALL TO THEM.IT WAS A BIT FIDDLY TO TAKE OUT THE OLD ONE, BUT EASIER TO PUT THE NEW ONE IN.****** SINCE THE DAY I PUT IN THE NEW BATTERY, WE HAVEN'T YET HAD TO CHARGE IT AFTER SEVERAL USES !!! ******THE SWEEPER'S MOTOR SPEED NOW RUNS MUCH FASTER TOO.I HAVE INCREASED THE "STARS" FROM 3 TO 5 - PART OF THAT IS DUE TO HOW POLITE AND BRILLIANT ALL G-TECH STAFF WERE VIA PHONE AND E-MAIL!========The looks of this sweeper are incredible.Very stylish colours. The performance is fair - BUT be warned if you have any remotely thick carpets - or "loose" strands of carpet - the sweeper will jam on those, and run its battery down quickly. What is really poor is how long you need to charge the battery for (at least 16 hours) - for which you get only 20 minutes of performance! However, I may have a faulty battery pack - I will need to ask the manufacturers for a replacement to test this.ONE POINT FOR ALL PRESENT AND FUTURE BUYERS -The instruction manual states the Sweeper must be charged for AT LEAST 16 hours - and then promptly follows up by stating "Do not charge for MORE than 16 hours" - which is very confusing!HOWEVER - there is a Yellow sticker on the sweeper itself saying "Do not charge for more than 24 hours" - I think this is what the manual MEANT to say!So in short - charge for at least 16 hours - but less than 24 hours. Also - if the "Red light" does not come on when you plug in the Charger, it means the "On/Off" switch is still in the "On" position - so press it again to turn it off. It's very difficult to tell on these types of switches whether it's on or off, since the Button position looks the same for both!As many other customers have also said - one major flaw is it doesn't indicate at all when it's battery is fully charged.I would love to recommend this, as when it works it works well - it's just the battery charge that seriously lets it down.Sateesh Batas (Hounslow, Middlesex, West London).

I ordered this for my mum to use (she'd been finding lugging a traditional vacuum up and down stairs a bit challenging). I had initially been tempted by the Gtech Air Ram - on the strength of the product description, Press and customer reviews - but my dad objected to the price. This seemed like the ideal compromise. My initial impressions of this weren't entirely favourable. The sweeper arrives partially assembled in a box smaller than that of many a netbook: which was a little disconcerting. In addition, the Gtech Sweeper (in particular the three-part handle) is somewhat flimsy feeling. It's so very light and easy to put together that I found myself questioning whether this would work/last at all.I needn't have worried.Once I (and then my parents) got past our initial preconceptions of what to expect in a rechargeable carpet sweeper, we discovered that this is certainly sufficiently robust for everyday home use AND surprisingly powerful. The GTech Sweeper does a great job of cleaning up pet hair: my parents' Black and Tan dachshund and cream carpet are not an enviable combination, but it's so easy to whip round with this that the dog hair situation is kept under reasonable control! An unexpected positive was that this arrived with some initial charge, so the sweeper could be tested straight away. It's not all plain sailing: because this has a rotating sweeper brush at the front long hair and other lengthier threads if caught tend to wrap around the rotating brush section and get stuck (ultimately requiring liberation via scissors). The collection drawer is quite small and requires frequent emptying. However, these are minor issues when taken against how nice, light, easy to use and effective this is at the price point.Would I buy it again? Possibly not, but only because this has proven to be such a nice, neat simple device to use. Instead, I'd give serious consideration to buying its enhanced-feature sibling, the GTech Air Ram.And my dad, who wasn't prepared to consider buying the Air Ram... has since had me buy him a GTech cordless strimmer, having gained so much respect for the brand!

Our Kitchen and Hall are tiled and we normally use a dust pan and brush to clear up bits dropped on the floor and use our Dyson once a week. We saw the Gtech and thought this would be a good replacement for the dust pan and brush so ordered it. We are really pleased so far. It picks up most things with ease. The only thing it has difficulty with is very light fluff which you have to go over a couple of times. When it arrived we charged it up the full 16 hours and since then it has been used to sweep the tiled floors 5 times and we even tried it on the carpets all over the house and the battery is still going strong.Note that it picked up on carpet just as well.We have door mats at the front and back doors which were a pain to clean using the Dyson as the suction is so strong it just lifted up the mats and we had to keep pulling them of the end of the pipe so they did not get done as often as they should. The Gtech is great for these as they there is no suction it just brushes up the bits off the mats so they get done regularly now.The front of the Gtech comes off to make it easy to do the stairs. This is a great idea as it is not easy to do the vertical parts of the steps with a normal vacuum so we will now be using the Gtech for the stairs all the time and as it is so light there is no danger of the weight of the vacuum making you fall. Also the fact that you can take off the extending handle means it is easily manoeuvre on the stairs. One point worth noting is when you get it charge the base up and make sure it works and you are happy with it before putting together the extending handle. Once you have put the handle together I do not think it can be taken apart again and you would not get it back in the box to return it. The handle attaches and detaches from the base with no problem it is the extending handle itself that won't come apart again once connected. The battery is replicable and is easily available when it eventually goes, as all rechargeable batteries do.Overall we are very pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone.

This sweeper is great for cat hairs and bits of cat litter (the cat likes to boot his cat litter everywhere then it ends up "tracking") and it's great for that crappy cheap carpet that landlords put in.In my flat, the carpet is a plain dark colour so it shows bits like crazy, and it also clings onto bits for all its life, so if you hoover over a bit five times, it *might* get it on the fifth time and that's with a powerful hoover that worked great on decent quality carpet.Using a normal hoover in here was a nightmare because it took about an hour to hoover all of the carpet about five times over then I had to finish with a dustpan and brush because the hoover refused to pick up bits.Bear in mind I'm supposed to hoover every day too because bits show so badly. That's an hour a day hoovering. The cordless sweeper has changed all this. It works great, especially on things like bits of cat litter which my hoover wouldn't dream of picking up. The cordless sweeper easily picks them up the first time so it's very quick to sweep the whole place.I don't think it's an exaggeration to say the cordless sweeper has been life changing because before I had to either spend an hour a day hoovering or (more likely) keep putting it off and be embarrassed by how badly it looked like it needed hoovering. It's also very lightweight, quieter than a normal hoover and the fact it's cordless is handy if you're struggling for available plug sockets. It holds a charge well, is impossible to overcharge and you can buy a new battery as a spare part when the battery starts failing (I don't know how long that might take to happen, I've had mine about three months and it's perfect so far.)If you have the same awful cheap carpet that's rendering your normal hoover useless then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the SW02. I also recommend it to pet owners if your regular hoover is struggling with pet hairs etc.

Got this on a recommendation from a family member, wasn't sure which model to go for, opted for this one as it was a very reasonable price. I have a small flat which has mostly laminate flooring and one carpeted room (the bedroom), so was looking for something to work on both floor types which was easy to use, didn't take up much storage and most importantly, did the job effectively. This fits the bill perfectly. On first use on the carpeted room, I was amazed - it picked up brilliantly, but halfway round the room appeared to be throwing some fluff back out. I was a bit worried, until I realised this was only because it had collected SO MUCH dirt already and the tray just needed emptying!Once the tray was emptied and re-inserted, the GTECH went back to work as normal. (Note: my carpet is not a thick shag-pile, but standard pile). The dirt collector tray is very easy to remove from the sweeper (it just slides out of the side) and quickly empty in the bin, and I find it kind of satisfying to see just how much this little beauty is picking up! It took two empties before the room was done - so this is worth noting if you are going to mind having to empty the tray regularly (it is a small tray, suited to the small size of the GTECH itself) - I don't mind this, and if I use it regularly as I expect to, hopefully the dust / dirt build up won't be so great next time (bit gross I know, sorry!)On laminate floors it is great as well - very easy to use for a quick run round, and easy to manoeuvre around and under furniture.I charged fully for 16 hours before using, and will take a previous reviewer's great advice to try to let it fully discharge each time before charging up to capacity again, to extend the battery life.

I have had one of these battery powered sweepers for about a month now and I have found it excellent. When I first had it the battery ran down very quickly, but after several long charges it lasted a bit longer each time and now I can run it round my flat 3 times before it needs charging again.Even though it is only a sweeper it is amazing what it picks up, especially when you have a furry pet!! I have used it on all my carpets and in the kitchen and bathroom and on my furniture and it has never failed to impress. It is very light and compact. Not having to trail a wire around with you makes the job so much easier and quicker, and it leaves the carpets looking fresh.I have even used it on my small astro-turf lawn and it picks up all the bits that have fallen off the trees and leaves the lawn looking good. Amazing!!It's only minor draw back is that sometimes some of the fluff collects in the space above the brush and needs to be cleaned out, but in most cases the majority of what it picks up ends up in the tray which is very easy to pull out and empty. The instructions say that it should be charged for at least 16 hours and not more than 16 hours. This is a bit rigid and I guess few people keep to it. I always run it down before I charge it again as in the past with other equipment I have found battery life lasts longer when you do this. The instructions do not really make it clear what charging routine you should take. Three times round my flat runs the battery right down and then I leave it on a long charge overnight and it is ready for another three days . So far this has been fine.. I would recommend this machine and may even get a second one. This will mean I always have one charged up.

I have never been a big fan of vacuuming (who is?!) so anything that means I vacuum less often gets my vote!I bought this originally because I saw a friend using one- I didn't even know electric sweepers like this existed! The plus point are:It is lightweight (I can easily dangle it on my little finger and I am a small woman)it is cordless in use so is easily transported between floorsit picks up loads, even dog hair when I have looked after my sister's ever moulting pooch.I am always amazed at the volume of dust and debris it collects in its little tray! As an experiment I only used the sweeper for a month and I then used the Dyson, expecting the Dyson to fill up with dust the sweeper has missed, but no, it hardly picked up anything extra, just round the edges where the sweeper can't reach, although it does have a spinning edge brush this is only on one side of the sweeper so there are some limitations. The sweeper bends round corners and flattens so it can clean under my bed/drawers etcIt is so convenient I use it several times a day usually (whereas I only used to vacuum a couple of times a week as the Dyson is so cumbersome) and now only use the Dyson when the edges need a really good going over approximately fortnightly. I have a cordless hand held Dyson to supplement my sweeper too.Downsides are:Not great for stairs (use my hand held Dyson) or edgesSometimes dust spits out but maybe this is when full up or when I tilt it incorrectlyLight doesn't tell you when fully chargedDespite some negatives , it is worth every penny to me as saves me so much time so I give it 5 stars and a big thumbs up!

What a little miracle this simple machine is! Okay, first up... it's not a vacuum cleaner, it's a floor sweeper. But it's better than many vacuum cleaners I have had down the years! And while it may not suck up dust etc quite like a vacuum, there is a suction effect caused by the brushes spinning very very fast which does lift dirt from lower down than just the surface. But the icing on the cake is that for the elderly and/or physically less able, this is a godsend because it is so light. For busy people with no time to spare it is a godsend because instead of hauling out a big cleaner with all the wires and attachments, you just run this over the floor instead.Pros:- very lightweight, very simple to assemble, very economical, very easy to empty (no filters, bags or mess), more robust than its ultra light weight might suggest.Cons:- it is expensive for what is basically a 21st century version of an old-style 1960s sweeper. But....worth every single penny.A couple of operating tips: The dust tray slides out, but it is a tight fit (necessarily to keep the dust in!). I find standing it on a firm surface helps, rather than bending down to it. Don't run it over any wires because it will suck them right round the brush assembly! If it's picking up long hair, make sure you clean the brushes regularly. And finally, when you first get it, charge it often over the first couple of weeks to bring the batteries up to capacity. After that it will last 60 mins or more before needing a top-up. I love this little gizmo, as someone who is partially disabled, it had made an enormous difference to my life. Thank you Gtech.

I was nearly put off by some of the previous reviews, however I decided to go ahead and try this little hoover out as it was one of the most powerful of it's type. I was not disappointed this is a great little hoover, no job has been beyond it. My main use for it is for the tiled kitchen floor and tile hallway. Both of which seem to need a whiz round daily. The hoover looks nice enough to have a place in the corner of the kitchen, charged and ready to use whenever needed. It collects crumbs, dropped food, glass when something was dropped and shattered. There really hasn't been anything that it hasn't been able to deal with. I also gave my living room carpet a quick go with this and it also did the job well.Although I wouldn't use this for larger spaces in place of a hoover as I think it is best at collecting specific things, being smaller it would take longer using this for large spaces than a regular hoover. That's not to say that it wouldn't be up to the job though. I also ordered some replacement batteries at the same time, I don't know how long they last but thought I may as well have them ready for when they do run out as I would hate to be without this great little hoover for a day whilst waiting for a delivery,So I do not hesitate to recommend this to anyone, I think it is perfect for my intended use and powerful. The little side brushes mean you can get close to edges too.

This is an excellent product which I am so glad I bought. It glides around all the carpet tiles, carpet, hardwood and vinly/lino floors in my home. Although it does not have any suction, it picks up LOADS of fluff and all the bits like cat biscuits, cornflakes, crumbs, peas etc that get on the floor. The edge cleaning pick up is better than my Dyson vacuum, but it only has an edge cleaning brush on one side. Not a problem once you know, just make sure that side of the cleaner runs against the edge. The stair cleaning works just as shown on the video and its great to be able to clean the rising bit of the stair carpet too. What could have been improved are the extending handle,so stiff I couldn't pull it out to extend it, despite the push button which should facilitate this. I got a can of WD40 from my shed and solved this problem. Also too stiff to pull out was the main handle when I want to use it to clean the stairs, why is there such a fiddly small nipple to push in, rather than a lever ? Again, WD 40 has solved this problem. So, I gave it 5 stars, because it's an excellent product, does what it says and cleans up in 5 mins without getting the vacuum out. My home is definitely cleaner for it & it's a pleasure to use, but come on G-tech, make the handle assmbly/disassembly a bit more user friendly

Perhaps it's a bit early to write a review--if it breaks down within a week, I'll kick myself. I'm half expecting it to, because otherwise it would be too good to be true. It's light as a feather and a hugely efficient cleaner on wood floors and low-pile carpets. The residual charge from the factory was enough to clean the entire (3 BR, 2 reception, 3-floor) house (carpets in every room except bathroom). I whipped up the stairs, which I haven't cleaned in ages because lugging up the heavy Dyson is just too much. This thing handled them in 10 minutes. Suction is great, better than my aging Dyson's. I had a scary moment when it sucked up a rather big wood splinter near our wood-burner,but it didn't even hiccup--just went on. Cleaning the whole house took half an hour. Granted, this was a cursory clean just to try it out, but still--impressive. With the dustbin full it is about twice as heavy as empty, and I can still lift the whole thing on 1 finger. So: no hype, it's a great little machine. If it breaks down in a week, I'll eat my words. If in 6 months, I'll apply to the 1-year guarantee from Gtech. If in a year, I'll have gotten my money's worth and immediately replace it with the same thing. It's the first time that I haven't dodged hoovering in years. Love it, love it, love it!!

Odd how minds don't always gel. I don't clean the floors or hump the cleaner about but I saw my slightly built 5ft tall wife humping our cleaner up and down the stairs and decided to find something lighter and went with this. Usual great service from Lakeland but on the first test I got a use time far shorter than the claims for a full charge (despite following the instructions exactly). I was all for sending it back but when my wife said "let me use it for a while" I relented and afetr the first use she was raving about it. She was far less concerned about whether she got a full hours use out of each charge and much more concerned that it was so simple to use and weighed so little. We chargedit again and still it came up short on the use time against the claims but would she let me send it back, would she hell. So there you have it, the practical lady beating the pedantic male, it was ever thus.It appears you can replace the batteries when they fail which they expect will happen every 500 charges but I suspect it may be sooner than that and Lakeland would undoubtedly do the honourable thing as they always do but I think I would have to wrestle it from my wife's hot sweaty hands before it ever went back. So despite my better judgement I have been instructed to give it 5 stars!

This is a great little piece of equipment that surprised me on how efficient it is.Picks up the tiniest of dust particles which normally get swept over with an ordinary broom. After charging first time I went over all my floors for a trial run.I could not believe how much dust it picked up from my ceramic tiled floors in just a few minutes. So light and easy to handle it makes doing the floors a doddle and so much quicker not having to plug in.......just switch on and go.I have not given five stars as I tend to agree with earlier reviews I did read before buying. When it comes to charging for use the directions are not really specific A first charge of 16 hours is recommended which is usual fora first time use of a product and then it is all rather vague.Do not know if it has to be put on charge after each use and have no way of knowing when fully charged. It warns not to over charge the battery but there is no indicator as to how much life is still in the battery to know how long to re charge it for. I am still a new user of this great little sweeper and would appreciate any tips from long term users on this issue. All in all it will get plenty of use as it really does do a good job but I would like to feel more confident about when to charge and for how long.
