I have owned many umbrella's and most of them don't last long. The ones that fold into a small package, usually get frame issues when used intensively or in high winds. The ones that don't fold generally last much longer but are a bit of a bother carrying around, since they don't fit in carry-on bags.The EuroSchirm Swing liteflex umbrella has a very strong frame. The canopy is large and deep enough to really protect you from the elements. It fold into a relatively small package, without the extra fold in the frame, and as a result, it is much stronger.When folded the length is between a full size, non foldable umbrella and the ultra compact foldable ones.

I have this for my travels in India/Asia. It’s super light and also very well made. I use this mainly for shade at the moment but I did use it in the rain back in the UK before I left and it performed admirably. My only gripe would be the diameter, an extra 100mm would be great but I guess that takes away from the compactness of such a travel brolly!I expect this to last a long time and the flexibly shafts do flex a hell of a lot more than I expected.Highly recommended.

i hate wearing hats, so this seemed like a good alternative for sun protection. provides loads of shade, and doesn't heat you up like a hat, but is totally helpless in just about any sort of wind. I'm augmenting mine with a visor. holds on to a backpack very well with some molle hydration bladder clips - save yourself the 30 quid extra from the backpacking version!

I have trekked with this umbrella in India, Nepal, Borneo and the Pyrenees. Sadly I lost my original in a taxi in Borneo. I have replaced it as they are invaluable: light, strong, a good size, excellent for the sun or the rain. The carry case makes it easy to sling over your shoulder and forget until the rain or the shade less sun comes along.

I can’t attest to the sturdiness yet, as I have not used it in windy conditions...yet. But so far it does exactly what I need out to do. Protects from rain and sun without weighing me down on the trail.

I haven't actually used the umbrella, but it is very light weight and appears to be of very good quality. It opens and closes easily.

Loved being able to carry my shade with me through the high desert. No issues and performed awesome!

Super-light weight, and keeps the sun off my head and shoulders (so much cooler than a hat!).
