This umbrella is very well-made: it can withstand high winds, the fabric is tough and tear-resistant, the metal seems like good quality steel. The plastic handle is comfortable to hold and useful for hanging up. Hook handles definitely preferable to straight ones I think. It's also plenty wide enough to shelter someone else under, particularly useful for beguiling damp ladies. It's also good value for money, as my experience with Fulton umbrellas (this is my third) is that they last for years and years (I've got a Fulton golf umbrella that must be 7 years old and still works fine). Though they might be more expensive than a more basic unbranded one for a couple of pounds,if you buy the latter you end up buying one every couple of weeks as they break so readily, so this works out as much more in the long run.Only thing to bear in mind is that it's quite long when folded-up (about a foot) so not the type of micro-umbrella you could fit in a coat pocket or handbag. But otherwise it's pretty light and narrow; fits easily in a rucksack or similar bag. If I don't have a bag and it's folded up I tend to hang it off a belt loop like a revolver. This makes me feel like a cowboy, and that's something everybody needs in their life. Actually it's also worth noting that the button to open it has a pretty ballistic flavour: the sturdy mechanism produces a satisfying whoosh and recoil on firing, and collapsing it feels not unlike loading a pump-action shotgun. Anyway, so my original point in bringing up my whole 'wish I was a cowboy but actually I just own an umbrella' fantasy was that despite being a bit big, the umbrella is still portable, and ultimately I think an umbrella that's tough is going to have to be slightly bigger than a more basic model.Previously I had another fold-up Fulton umbrella which they no-longer make. It was equally tough but heavier, had no hook handle, and had annoying joints that stabbed you in the head fairly regularly. This one is a definite improvement and has none of those faults. When I researched buying this one, it seemed like the cheapest available umbrella that was reliably reviewed as being durable.

Best umbrella fullstop. Not only does it fold away to literally put back into a messenger style bag, it's actually really strong, has been blown inside out quite a few times in the past years and not had any problems popping back to normal.Literally still using it and it's been about 2-3 years. No problems whatsoever and would reccomend this again and again to everyone. rain bounces off the umbrella and hardly stays wet, dries in no time and have used it in the storms of storms. perfect stylish and very compact when folded.I always keep it with me and when it rains, people have complimented me saying i come prepared haha, however it's just so small you can take it with you and not worry if it does rain or not because it's there. This is what you call a Quality umbrella ladies and gentlemen and students alike.Stop going to the pound shop buying cheap 1 pound umbrellas and get a Fulton!Edit - (4 years later)Still have this umbrella In perfect condition. Has not worn out, never broken no damage to the material whatsoever. Really impressed with this umbrella and has stood the mark of time. Guys this is without a doubt an instant buy if you're looking for an umbrella!Edit - (6 years later, purchased in Oct 2012 and writing this in Jan 2018)Still hasn't broken and working perfectly fine. Absolutely no problems with this and have used it throughout many tough conditions in winter. I genuinely reccomend this item and still tell people about this when they're considering buying an umbrella.Edit - (8 years on writing in June 2020)The push to open mechanism is a little worn now. Requires a bit of pressure to open and to close. But otherwise its still working great!

This is a fantastic umbrella.I have had so many umbrellas over the years and every single one of them seemed to break at the slightest gust of wind. This one has survived far worse and come out on top! The canvas is larger than a typical umbrella and does a good job of keeping me dry on the walk to work. It is just about large enough that two people can get under it and not have water dripping on them. With all its strength one thing I was slightly worried about before I purchased it was that it would be rather heavy. I needn't have worried! It folds down to a small size (around 40cm long) and is not that much heavier than a regular 'cheap' folding umbrella. It certainly has never bothered me when carrying it.Another good note is that when folded down it is just about small enough to fit in most bags, although probably with the handle poking out - handy for when the rain stops! So far it hasn't turned inside out and I have been in some fairly heavy wind. It drys out very quickly. It has a little button which extend the umbrella automatically when pressed but it does rather shoot out so be careful where you aim it when pressing!Overall I would definitely recommend this umbrella. It is worth spending a little more to get an umbrella that lasts.

Appearance:The Ambassador looks rather unremarkable. From a distance it could be mistaken for just about any black fold up umbrella. In my view, this is a good thing, since it's far less likely to get stolen than a more striking model. Up close, however, and it's easy to see that the Ambassador is sturdier than your average umbrella.Build:I live in Aberdeen and the wind has sent countless umbrellas to umbrella heaven, turning them inside out, ripping their fabric, and bending their tines. The Ambassador HAS been turned inside out a couple of times, but a quick shake has returned it to its regular shape. The umbrella is small enough to easily fit in my backpack, though it is probably slightly too long to fit in most handbags. The crook handle makes it easy to hang up and hold, while the automatic spring mechanism is snappy and solid. Folding up the telescoping frame is smooth and easy.Rain protection:Good. The span of the umbrella is a bit larger than than many fold ups I've own and it does a good job of shielding me.Overall:A great wee umbrella that, while more expensive than many similar umbrellas, justifies its price with quality and reliability. Its unassuming appearance and convenient form factor add to its appeal.

Received this umbrella today. Looks vary professional and feels light yet sturdy, I think the wind will have to put some effort in to blow it inside out. When opened the umbrella hood has a circumference of about 115 cm, so enough to cover you and a friend. :)There is a button on the handle that extends and opens the umbrella. To close it you just pull it down from inside. Easy enough. Also has a neat little cover thing to make the umbrella fit into a rucksack of holdall, or even in your hand without taking up much room or becoming cumbersome. However, the packaging it came in! The umbrella is only 43 cm in length and 14 cm in diameter when folded and the cover is applied. The box it was delivered in was 65 cm x 37 cm x 11 cm. Come on Amazon, surely you have a more suitable sized packaging that it could have gone into rather than the large box you sent it out in. Oh well, at least it was well protected in transit. >.<Update: took it out for its first windy day. The wind wasn't that strong but every so often a bit of a gust, again not too strong, would hit me. Within two minutes the umbrella turn itself inside out :(

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this product, we've all seen plenty of umbrella corpses in bins, especially in England this last year or so due to the extreme storms and wind. I got this needing something to keep me dry and not break the bank when, like all umbrellas, it bites the dust far too early in it's life and needs to resign to the great dustbin in the sky. What I actually got surprised me greatly, this thing is nothing short of a tank. It has weathered long and unforgiving exposure to storms that I have seem literally crush all of it's market competitors. It just cannot be beat, even with the amount of stress I routinely expose it to.Monolithic durability aside, the extendible button is really smooth and just from opening it up you feel like this is a quality product. It folds down nice and neatly and can stomach being smashed around in a bag for a good time.In summary, I really can't recommend this enough, it's a fantastic bargain for the quality it provides and leaves the competition behind.

The umbrella arrived the next day as standard delivery which was great as I needed it for the weeked. Attached with the umbrella was a note thanking me for the purchase and that the company (Tacy's craft shop) apreciated the business, which I thought was really genuine and thoughtful. The umbrella itself is really great. Fulton have created a really strong umbrella. I travelled up north during the weeked, and the heavens opened: it rained heavily, with gusts of wind which weren't great. I looked around me and the umbrellas were turning inside out, or breaking beacuse of the wind. I pressed the button, and the Fulton ambassador opened, and it stayed open with no problems for 3-4 hours.I was really impressed with it, and that it dries really quickly! If there are any men out there who want a strong, sturdy, stylish umbrella which can withstand the rain and wind of the north, then the ambassador would be perfect. It is a bit more expensive than the other umbrellas on the market, but this one will last longer!

This was a replacement for the same item i bought 3 years ago due to losing it. If i hadn't have lost the original, i'm sure it would have lasted much longer. While this umbrella doesn't look expensive or classy, its strong and has survived all kinds of weather including strong wind. If the wind is too strong then the item will blow inside out but pointing it against the wind it blows back again without breaking however its worth pointing out this rarely happens and can stand up to almost all winds but whats important is it never breaks and the frame is strong. Its rather small to keep you completely dry but thats the price you pay for the compact design and you can easily keep it in a smallbackpack and has been great for everything from commuting to traveling in tropical destinations during monsoon season.Overall an excellent buy for the price and I hope this replacement item has been made to the same quality to the original that i unfortunately lost.

A very sturdy, compact umbrella which seems to withstand strong winds quite well. It has blown inside out a couple of times, but that is in very blustery weather and it popped right back straight away without any sign of weakness.I really like hook handles over plain sticks as they are much more comfortable to hold and easier to carry. However, the handle isn't huge, and I think may be a little small for men's hands. This umbrella is perfect for me, but I am a girl. From experience, I always think that Men's umbrellas are very large, big enough for two people to share. However, I certainly don't feel two people can walk under this umbrella comfortably and stay dry at the same time.If you are a woman who likes to have a slightly larger compact umbrella, then this is brilliant. It packs up to a fairly small size, it is resistant to most bad weather and feels like it will last.

I bought this umbrella as my friend recommended it. Depsite it being branded as a ''mens'' umbrella, i went for it anyway. It is a great size, not too large, yet not so small that it only covers your head and shoulders! The handle is comfortable to hold and even when not is use, it is lightweight and not a burden to carry. It has tackled the winds very well so far where i live, so i hope it continues to do so.I would highly recommend this umbrella for someone (like me) that didnt want to continue buying cheap umbrellas every 5 minutes, and wanted a smart black umbrella that covers you well, is lightweight and easy to use (you cant get much easier than pushing a button and it opening out now can you!)and tackles wind fairly well. For the quality, it really is a bargain.

Having left my previous one of these on the train, I had no question about what I was buying again. I plumped straight for the repeat purchase of the Fulton Ambassador, not wanting to mess around with another cheap umbrella that I would purchase one day and would barely get me home. This umbrella is study, though watch the tags on the cover, a reasonable size and the pop up mechanism is yet to fail even in light winds. If your looking for an alternative to the pocket umbrella, take this as your bag umbrella - it'll fit in any reasonable size pack or satchel and be there when you need it. The rain protection is excellent and provides cover for one person without getting in the way or impacting your style.Overall, it comes highly recommended.

Decent umbrella. I like the button that releases it, there's something really satisfying about being to open the umbrella with just one button. It's pretty small and lightweight, it fits in my rucksack (with the handle sticking out) but my rucksack is on the small side so I'm more than satisfied with that.It performs well in winds but not perfectly. It has blown inside-out on me 2-3 times but only through very strong gusts. It's not really a huge issue and 90% of the time it won't happen but I knocked off one star for this because I expected a little better. It is definitely better in winds than those cheap umbrellas you find in the store though!Buy a windshield umbrella if you experience strong winds frequently.

I bought a Fulton umbrella that looks exactly like the Ambassador in 2000, although I am neither a man nor an ambassador. It is about 42cm long when folded. It is a very good umbrella, I have used it as my only umbrella for over 11 years all over the world whether backpacking or working and it still looks good and works perfectly. I am particularly fond of it because I once used it to defend myself (successfully) against a man who tried to attack me in a lonely alley in Verona!I am looking for a smaller umbrella now only because I need one in my handbag at all times during the rainy season here in Malawi.

As a student I remember buying the cheap £1 umbrellas and going through several a year, they were badly made, frail and one even cut my skin from a poor folding mechanism. As soon as I started earning a living and as my primary mode of transport was walking to work I invested in one of these. Very sturdy, they'll withstand most ordinary storms and winds, and also I love the trigger mechanism to open. I think I'm on my fourth or fifth one of these, so they last an average of about 5 years I'd say. Forget the cheap umbrellas, and buy this one, you won't regret it.

You can go to any shop and buy any umbrella that will cost you a couple of quid but will break in an instant. The first day using this umbrella there was a lady in front of me wrestling with her inside out umbrella as the wind was yanking it around and she was getting soaked while I stood comfortably under this without it even showing a hint of buckling or going inside out. It's sleek, smart and sturdy which you can tell right away when you get it from it's weight and feel. Highly recommend as it's a good bargain rather than buying half a dozen £2 umbrellas :)
