I bought this umbrella in 2011. I decided to spend a bit more than I had before, to get one of a decent quality, and I haven't been disappointed. The handle is comfy to hold, the opening mechanism still works very well and most importantly it still keeps me dry. It pops open with a button and you collapse it down in a straightforward manner to close it again. All very solid. I make sure I leave it loosely open to dry out after use, so it hasn't gone mouldy. I lost the cover a while ago, but the velcro strap closes the umbrella nice and tight, so it's not needed.I don't believe there is a truly wind-proof umbrella, so I do take care not to use this in really gusty winds if I can help it.However sturdy it is, I'm sure it could be damaged if it caught the wind. What I am most surprised by is that in eight years I haven't left it on a bus or train. When I finally do, I would buy a Fulton again.

I bought this umbrella to replace one that was about thirty years old which would no longer stay open. I like the new umbrella very much. It is sturdily made, not heavy, and even in a really strong, blustery wind it does not come close to blowing inside out. Although when not in use it collapses to a mere 11" or so in length, when open it is more than big enough to keep the rain off someone who is larger than average. Just one thing though. When collapsing the umbrella you have to make sure that the hand with which you are holding it is clear of the descending struts otherwise they will "bite" you.Once you have pressed the release button and started to collapse the canopy it is best to release the mechanism and hold the umbrella by the handle until it is fully closed. If you want a good, sturdy and well made automatic opening umbrella at a reasonable price you won't go wrong with this one.

Been buying this umbrella since 2006. This is my 4th one, and not because the previous one's broke, but because I lost them (clumsy me). Nevertheless, this umbrella is REALLY STRONG, and love the open & close feature that has never failed me. The last that I had, I kept it for 4 years and the mechanism only slightly lost some strength but overall, it worked perfectly well.Just one thing, one of the first ones that I had, was not lost but actually broken by a friend of mine. He clicked the button to open it without having released the strap first. The internal mechanism was ruined. So, make sure you always release the strap that keeps it together when not in use before you click the button!I accidentally did that once but I released it before it got extended and saved it from harm.

After many years of choosing either a reasonable umbrella that lasts a while but is rigid and therefore not stowable, or a folding umbrella that promptly breaks upon its 2nd use; I decided to trawl the umbrella reviews and invest in something folding and robust. When faced with the multitude of offerings I was a tad confused but price was a factor, and the reviews spoke highly of this one. They were not wrong. It is a great item, a tad on the heavy side but seems to be made of stern enough stuff to last numerous commutes. Shame it doesn't come with an extra arm for when I am over-laden with laptop, folders, handbag, lunch, shopping, etc; but I suppose at such a reasonable price one cannot expect miracles!

I bought one of these in 2003 and used it right up until september 2010 when i lost it, there was no damage, it never once blew inside out (and it took a massive hammering in all sorts of weather), the automatic mechanism didn't break and all in all I thought it was great. It performed its primary function and kept me very dry and easily fitted into my man bag (a normal sized messenger bag). I liked it so much I brought a direct replacement which as time went on is now cheaper. I would reccommend this to anyone needing a compact umbrella who is out in very wet conditions. I does feel light but as I said before the only reason for replacing it was I lost it :)

I have just lost this umbrella after lending it to my teenage son and I will be replacing it. I'd had it 18 months and it was brilliant. Yes, it was slightly heavier and bulkier than I'd expected but it was great. I've used it in the most awful windy weather and if the wind does catch it or turn it inside out, it doesn't break and it's easy enough to pop it the right way and carry on using as long as you angle it properly from the wind. I really like the automatic pop-up umbrellas. Press the button to open and again to collapse it, but you then have to push the the handle in to close fully or it won't pop open when you press the button again.

Since purchasing this umbrella a few weeks ago, I have been quite literally unable to be rained upon. It's been a rainy few weeks, as is often, unfortunately, the case during a British summer. Despite this, every single time I have stepped outside with my new Fulton umbrella at the ready, the rain has ceased. Immediately. This has happened so many times now that I have no recourse but to conclude that the umbrella itself is responsible.Pros:- Seems sturdily built- Power to alter the weather within a several-mile radiusCons:- So called "auto-close" only actually closes the device halfway- A little on the heavy side

Unfortunately, I left my small, folding umbrella (a Fulton automatic) on the train last Tuesday. I had owned it for several years. To my surprise, I found the same item on the Amazon website and ordered a replacement on the next (Wednesday) evening and was informed that standard delivery would take an acceptable 5/6 days. Wrong! My new umbrella arrived on the Friday morning - only three days after I forgot my old umbrella when changing trains at a busy railway station. The new Fulton umbrella is an excellent product - an improved version of an already very good design. Highly recommended umbrella and first class service.

Great umbrella. I bought it in Autumn 2014 and so it has lasted five years. It's reasonably light and compact and has a reasonable diameter when erected. It can be shut with one hand, if you've got something robust to press against (a wall, or the floor) - useful when carrying something. It opens very easily in one hand by pushing the button. Definitely going to reorder.About two years ago, one of the spokes lost a rivet. I was able to repair by using a paperclip, which lasted two years until recently. I wanted an umbrella that would be robust and last a long time, and this one certainly has.

We bought 4 of these umbrellas and they arrived just before the massive storm in late October 2013. Wind was gusting like crazy, whipping the rain in all directions. My family and I each used one as we navigated out through the storm. My 6 year old had no issues opening/closing the umbrella (a first!) and the umbrellas survived the massive wind. They are easy to carry when closed and perfectly sized to protect you from the rain (and not too big when opened that you poke people either). I cannot recommend this umbrella enough. We will definitely buy more, when needed.

Although this looks expensive it really is worth the money. I’ve had a previous version of this same umbrella for at least ten yearsI won’t tell you it never turns inside-out in high winds, but I can tell you that if it does it is easy to return to shape and not fall apart,The Auto mechanism has never let me down and it is light and easy to pack and carryMy last one didn’t fail, it just didn’t survive my 105 kilogram (16 ½ stone) bulk landing on it when I tripped overI didn’t hesitate to buy another, and this mildly updated version seems even sturdier

I bought mine around '95. I was browsing to see if they still make them. I think it's cheaper now! Superb brolly. The magical auto-close never fails to give me a small smile when I see others reaching inside theirs and struggling to get them down. I don't understand why the feature is not everywhere after all this time.I had to 'fix' one spoke which broke 3 or 4 years ago with a loop of wire, so it doesn't play a part in the sprung open/close business now, but just follows along. Despite that, the brolly is still going strong. Complaints? Not a one.

Lots of positives to this umbrella, automatic opening and closing, great for getting out and getting back in the car when it's pouring, also really good size, and great handle. Only thing is that when you open in, the spring doesn't seem to have quite enough power to open fully! It needs an extra nudge to actually open fully, to reach that "click". That's kind of annoying to have to do every time and particularly when you have your briefcase or whatever in the other hand. You want to just press the button and be done with, it's a Fulton after all.

I wanted a large umbrella that would not only keep me fairly dry, but that was also sociable - I could fit a colleague under it as well. I've got this and more - a folding umbrella which is sturdy in fairly strong winds, and which springs into action quickly. It is fairly heavy - has to be to be so sturdy - and you have to press the button to start the collapse before collapsing it fully, but it does work well and completely predictably, which is exactly what you need when the weather is foul outside, your hands are full, and you are in a hurry

Favourite brolley of all time. I bought one of these over 8 years ago and lost it in Manchester. I was gutted because it's so good, fortunately found the same one and bought a back up one too. When you're rushing around and it starts chucking it down, you just press the button and it whips out in a second and it's very sturdy. Non of this blowing inside out carryon! I think the automatic ones tend to be a bit rubbish against wind, also all the girlie brollies seem pathetic too. They is blokey but I don't care it's so ruddy good!
