For years I've used an unbranded version of this drill, and it is very useful. In particular it can get into tighter spaces than traditional hand drills and it does not have that tendency to twist as you turn the handle. Because of all this I decided to buy another one to use at a different location. The Draper one was the most frequently available and was inexpensive if you looked around. Externally, the Draper drill is identical to my unbranded one (apart from the colour), but internally, I don't know. My unbranded one is totally smooth in operation, whereas the Draper drill has a tight point on each revolution. I unscrewed one half from the other in order to grease the (bevel)gears and see if there was any reason evident for this slight tightness at one point on each revolution. There was none that I could see. To be clear, this tight spot is fairly minor and will not make it harder to use the drill, it's just that it ought to be perfect. That's why I docked a star. The metal chuck works well. As with the unbranded drill, I dressed the corners of the flap closing off the spare drill bit compartment, to remove the sharpness and make the drill more comfortable. All in all I am happy with my purchase.

Fear not ladies, this light weight low tech device will not over strain the feminine hand! Girls (and guys) unused to weilding mighty robust power tools will find that this nifty little drill will not over tax their dainty digits.Being a bit of a DIY numpty I was a little confused that the winding dueberry appeared to be on the wrong way around - then I had a lighbulb moment, this was just to enable it to fit into the packaging - it easily detached and re-attached the right way around. Then bingo, after practising making some holes in an old piece of wood to ascertain which drill dueberry made the right size hole (a bit like trying out lipsticks on the back of your hand girls)- I was away.I have now successfully erected some net curtains in my front window. Hurray, I can keep an eye on my nosey neighbours without being seen doing so - result. I did initially make a bit of an exhibition of myself standing on the window sill drill in hand but from this day forwards I can happily twitch my net curtain unobserved! You will need to purchase some drill dueberries as it is not supplied with any

Bear in mind I am not a joiner, or a handyman. All I wanted was a drill to make holes in drawers to accommodate new handles, to be able to drill a new hole in a curtain pole which I needed to shorten, and to drill into the wall to fix a heavy duty mirror. I looked at cordless drills, and to be honest they terrified me witless so I thought I would give this a go, reasoning that if it didn't work I hadn't spent much money. All I can say is this is terrific. I don't know how I managed beforehand - well, I do, I asked my dad to use his power drill! It tackles amazingly thick wood, at a slow and steady pace - no chance it can run away with you - and the 'pistol grip' means it doesn't wobble about. One word of caution. Don't expect - as I did - to use this 'out of the box'. It doesn't come with any drill bits at all so I needed to make a quick trip to the local hardware to buy some. Other than that, it's excellent.

I have to say i'm quite impressed. The chuck accepts the largest of my small collection of drill bits(8mm), and still performs admirably. The action of the hand gear(or w/e its called) is smooth, and going through hard wood like Oak is relatively effortless. I also used it to mount a shelf on a brick wall, which was also suprisingly easy. The only thing i can complain about is the lightweight plastic construction of the handle(s). I would gladly pay treble or more for a tool that functioned as well, but was made of more durable/classy materials. Of course for the price it is expected.

I am *really* not DIY minded, and have no intention of becoming so, but I needed a drill for a couple of jobs. This is great - really small so it is easy to store, and it worked perfectly - even into my wooden front door (which, incidentally, my dad's power drill didn't even make dent in). I've got mild RSI but didn't have any difficulty using this - with the Bosch drill bits I bought it was really light work. Strongly recommended.

Received this today, I’ve already put up a shelf in our garage with it. Drilling breeze blocks was a breeze. I used a wood drill bit, the masonry bit was hard work, but after I changed over it was ridiculously easy!!I’ve only given it 4 stars, as I can’t see it having a very long life, it seems a little flimsy. I’ll be showing the kids how to use it, as it should be a lovely safe way to get them into DIY

Simple to remove three screws, slide the black plastic ferrule off the end and lift the casing apart. As other reviews stated: the internal gears are bone dry, so I added White Lithium Grease (from Halfords) to the internal gears. Quieter and smoother action now gives me more confidence in the longevity of this rather tidy piece of kit. Recommend it.

Arrived 2 hours ago .. already replaced some old door handles (old ones were knobs needing 1 hole new ones bar handles .. 2 holes) and a door stop. My electric drill would not fit into the space I had... this sturdy little hand drill will be useful for many small projects .. I am female this drill is intuitive to use and lightweight.

Superb precision chuck. Plastic body which means there is no metal sleeve bearing for chuck drive spindle to pass through. Had to use a file to make the drill bit flap open satisfactorily. I greased internal gears when I got it. A good small drill for small infrequent jobs I would say which is what I bought it for so 5 stars.

I bought this to add drawer handles etc to furniture without having to ask and then wait for my husband! It does the job gently and effectively, plus it's so easy to use, no wires etcBought the Bosch 7 piece wood drill set to go with it....so now I'm fully loaded !This little gem comes highly recommended

I bought this for modeling use. It is far, far more convenient than my NiCad power drill which, annoyingly, requires a recharge every time I need to drill one hole! The Draper hand drill is very well made and more than strong enough for me. Delivery was prompt.

This is a great little drill at a great price. It's ideal for lightweight jobs, is comfortable to handle and looks built to last! Time alone will tell. I would have given it 5* except that it feels that the internal gears are not as smooth as they could be.

Excellent hand drill recommended by my dad, we have used it lots, great for those little jobs where you don't need an electric drill. We bought the Silverline 282563 Combi Drill Bit Set 16-Piece 4 - 10mm to go with it and they are perfect.

This is a great drill for quick & ‘quiet’ small jobs and I really like the Bit storage space in the body and the reverse handle when not in use.My only negative is that there isn’t a Chuck key to help tighten/loosen the head

At last a little hand drill that is designed to be used in a 'gun' alignment rather than the awkward way the old upright hand drills are made. This is a sturdy little piece of kit that 'does what is say on the tin'.
