I've ran a few test holes in melamine board and a piece of plywood. It's relatively easy to get to grips with the system, however I would suggest running multiple tests to ensure you are satisfied with the result and methods before moving onto any finish pieces. My melamine test was not perfect, I had to reset the retention face plate as it moved slightly when drilling into the "face" board meaning the finished result was probably quarter of a millimeter off. Not the end of the world and likely my fault as i can often rush my tasks. The end drilling is far easier as the simple twist method centres the dowel perfectly everytime. I think it just takes some practice for this to be an excellent cost effective way for joining small cabinets together.I think almost anyone could start using this tool and produce near perfect results within half a dozen goes

In my newly refurbished workshop I am very much in to building "stuff". My latest effort is a printer stand, for which this jig had its first use. It's pretty easy and straightforward to use: find the right hole for your dowel size, find the right drill bit for the hole size, mark where you want to drill and line it up over the spot to keep the drill bit straight. I found it easiest to drill a shallow hole (more of a marker) first as it's hard to keep the jig complete still until the drill bit is in the material. The plastic has a tendency to slid along the wood or chipboard. It would be good to see some rubber strips added to the bracket to stop this sliding. But otherwise it's an essential tool for the woodworker, and very well priced.

Bought one from a local retailer, and am pretty impressed, silverline stuff has been a bit hit and miss in the past, but this was one of the hits. simple but effective, the pins on the lower side mean that you can ensure that any of the 3 holes is always centred on the end of the stock, and then using the techniques in the instructions you can ensure the holes in the other side of the joint line up. I'd recommend watching the wolfcraft video linked in the comments for a very clear demo of how it works, its essentially the same concept. Built a L joint as a test using some bits of CLS last night and made a joint with 2 8mm and 2 10mm dowels in a row that went together nice and tight and squarein no time at all.

Having never used a dowelling jig before Sunday, I was pretty happy with the output of my efforts using this little item. Incorporating some kind of clamp mechanism rather than hold with one hand and drill with the other would be a huge improvement, but for a comparatively cheap and accurate method of drilling inserts for dowell, this was a huge success. Slightly concerned over it's longevity / expected life span as after only one use the metal guides were showing considerable erosion from the drill bit, but time will tell.

This jig looks to be aimed at the DIYer which I am and ticks all the boxes. It is easy to figure out without resorting to the instructions and holds in position well whilst drilling. I used it by hand but I am sure you could easily clamp it if required. The plastic feels very sturdy and the metal holes support the drill bits perfectly.Does what it says on the tin, cannot fault it.Please note I cannot comment as to it's suitability for a professional user.

Great value for what it is. It might not be the tool for fine furniture making but for everything else it's quick and easy to use. There are some great Youtube videos that show you how to use almost identical jigs - I recommend viewing a few. You could spend ten times the price on a more expensive jig, but you won't get five times the tool.|I ended up modifying mine a little to make it easier to use on a project - at this price you risk nothing!

Requires a bit of common sense to use the device but it is well made and, having dropped it twice on the garage floor, it is quite robust.Instructions are good, if you can't see how to use it just read the instructions. My first one arrived without the bolts to hold it together, emailed the supplier detailing what was missing, they immediately sent me a replacement. So, to sum up, product good value and supplier excellent.

Tidy bit of kit, I have never used this sort of thing before but after a about 10 minutes of use I was getting pretty good results. The pegs on the back of the jig make it easy to find the centre of my 4x1 timber (made the job go quicker), but the adjustable bar on the top needs checking every use as it is prone to slip on mine. But for the price you pay you get more than your moneys worth.

Let's be frank, Silverline isn't exactly top of the line in terms of quality; therefore, I wasn't exactly surprised when I opened the box and saw the quality of the jig. However, after using it to make dowelled joints in a big shelving/wardrobe unit, I was very definitely surprised. And impressed. It was well worth the money.

Went for this item as I do not use dowels often so did not see the point of spending a lot. Very handy unit which looks slighly flimsy but does a good job. I like the feature of four small posts which allow easy centering of single dowel holes inthe edge of panels simply by twisting the jig. Good value.

The build quality of this is very good, however i was disapointed that each of the 3 holes are pre-set to 6,8 and 10mm, i was hopeing they would come with inserts so i could make all 3 holes the same diameter, as such it means you need to align each hole at a time rather than doing 2 or 3 at a time.

This is the easy way to make doweled joints for corners or joining lengths. It is remarkable simple to use and very easy to drill your holes accurately.I'd always measured and drilled but this does the job in a fraction of the time and makes producing small batches an almost trivial job.

Simply, because it actually works, I'm left wondering how I got on before.Using dowels is now a lot easier and quicker too.You do need to learn how it works but the instructions are clear and if you still have problems there are several third party videos online to help.

Great starter dowel jig. Really impressed, especially for the price. It has a little bit of flex so if you torque it too much your holes will drift off centre slightly. But otherwise fantastic and helped me extend some wardrobes in an efficient tidy manor.

excellant piece of kit. As a D.I.Y. cretin I would never have believed dowel joints were posible outside a factory.Only criticism = great care must be taken in selecting the right face, side and edge of the second recieving member, herself would agree!
