After buying a DS Lite and a couple of games, I wanted to expand my DS Lite's functionality, mainly for music (since I had held off on buying an iPod). So I did some research and came across Datel's Max Media Dock. Although it looks identical to the overpriced Max Media Player w/ 4GB Hard Drive, this one allows you to use your own Compact Flash card for storage and costs less.At first I was turned off by its appearance, especially in contrast with the beautiful design of the DS Lite, but after reading a review online of it, I decided to give it a try. I must say, I am impressed with it, although I did have trouble getting it to work at first. Just make sure if you're going to use your own CF card, insert it w/ the front label side up! Otherwise you'll end up getting frustrated over your PC not recognizing it when you insert the USB plug.At the time of this writing, the Media Dock comes with a native music player that you can control with the stylus. I noticed some MP3's cracked a little when using this, so you may want to use the included MoonShell program instead. Unfortunately, if you want to view pictures, movies, or run anything other than music, you'll have to use Moonshell. Also, it seems if you do run the native music player first and then try to run Moonshell, it won't work with the stylus. So you'll have to restart it, or just use Moonshell only. The other thing (which I have yet to try) is that, so far, movies are not viewable in their native formats (avi, mpeg). You'll have to encode them into a .DPG format using tools from Datel's website. Datel is working on patches to address all these issues so we'll just have to wait and see.Although it has its nuances, it really is great to be able to play music, view pics, etc, from the same system that you play your games on. And with the DS Lite's battery power, you don't have to worry about plugging it in. If you're taking it on a road trip, you may want to get a car power adapter for it as well as an audio adapter so you can listen to your MP3s on the car's stereo.

The Max Media Dock is a simple and a cheap way to play videos and music on your DS. Compact flash cards are very cheap now, especially off Amazon. The device is easy to set up. If it's not working, the compact flash card is upside down! Transfere of files is a simple drag and copy. Browsing and playing files is done simply with the stylus. The supplied video converter has converted every file I have asked it to do, and makes them nice and small. A 45 min Tv episode usually ends up being about 100-150 mb.The TV quality isn't exactly high-def but is just fine for a portable device. The sound quality is not as good as dedicated mp3 players, but that is the DS not the Media Dock. One other problem is the product is a bit bulky, and this is especially evident when used with the DS lite. This product is simply a must for DS owners. Playing videos and mp3s could not be simpler!

I can't believe the first review, the DS Media Dock really is the thing that this console needs... and its so simple! When i bought this device I wasn't sure, thanks to the review written on it (Wow this thing sucks) but now i realise his must be broken because all the things written there are all wrong. The music is fine and the Homebrew stuff all works. I just don't understand why this product only shows up on the 3rd page of DS accessories.Oh and by the way you do need a compact flash disk to work this and if you just get all that then it can't be more simple. Top dog product.
