I never knew it would be so hard to find a suitable controller for mobile gaming ... and I've now messed around buying and returning a few controllers, so I thought I'd write a review to hopefully save others the trouble i've been through.Games played for review: F1 Mobile Racing (Codemasters) and Call of Duty Mobile (TiMi Studios / Tencent Games). Connection: Bluetooth.Controller #1 - Steel Series Stratos Duo. Price paid: £64.99 not including phone mount. It looked the business, and with gaming sites recommending it, I bought it straight away and was initially not disapointed. Battery is built in, the look and feel is excellent and it holds comfortably like an X-Box controller. When not in use it goes to sleep by itself to preserve battery. The only slight disapointment was the Steel Series phone mount prevents you from plugging a USB lead in whilst it's attached - meaning you have to faff around removing it when it's time to re-charge. But, the recharge wasn't needed often - battery life was good, and the LED's tell you how much remains. Other reviews have complained that the 4 LED's flash every few seconds when connected to Bluetooth - it didn't bother me.However, I really struggled with controlling my car in F1 Mobile Racing. The steering seemed delayed and digital, applying counter steer was impossible. I started to look for other controllers which might perform better, and I also consider that the game itself is at fault here - the game doesn't officially support controllers on Android, and this shows. Also, be aware that this controller is not supported at all by Call of Duty.Quality appears to be Steel Series achilles heal, and after just two or three weeks of gaming, the "B" button stopped working properly, causing the controller to lock-up when this is pressed. If it wasn't for this fault, I'd probably have kept this controller and been reasonably happy, even without being able to play Call of Duty.Pro's:Materials quality, finishBatteryComfortable to holdSleep works wellCon's:It brokePhone mount is fiddlyNot all games support itController #2 - Jevogh Xbox one Controller JV24. Price paid: £45.00.Note: I didn't try this controller with Call of Duty.Whilst trying to work out why my Formula One car was so uncontrollable, I bought this significantly cheaper controller to do a comparison. It worked just as badly for controlling the car, and wasn't a very nice controller and I quickly returned it.Controller #3 - Sony Playstation Dualshock 4. Price paid: £44.99By this time I had tried Call of Duty and seen the error of my ways... I don't have a Playstation these days and didn't realise the controllers are Bluetooth compatible, and work with Android. Suddenly my F1 car is more controllable, and my laptimes have improved - it's hard to pinpoint the exact difference (analogue stick deadzone, perhaps?), and F1 Mobile Racing is still not perfect, but it's a lot better.I've had a few connection issues, and I'm also unsure of the state of charge of the controller battery... Without having a Playstation to tell me this, I have no indication and I suppose it could run out of battery mid-game. Worse, it doesn't seem to go to sleep, so you have to turn off your phones bluetooth unless you want the battery to drain. You also have to avoid certain USB fast chargers if you wan't to avoid killing the battery. Furthermore, I've had some Bluetooth connectivity issues - I had to re-start my phone, and re-pair the connection to get it working again. Although I think this is potentially teething issues whilst I get used to how it pairs. Finally, the first phone mount I bought snapped literally within hours... It seems Sony have designed a controller that is inherantly difficult to mount a phone onto (because of the touch-pad front button), and the plastic mounts have to curve around this button, with a thin plastic section. So, be prepared for breakages of this part.Pro'sSupported by more Android gamesController quality is very highCon'sNot as comfortable to holdNo indication of battery charge levelBluetooth connection unreliableDon't use a fast-chargerPhone mounts are fragileIn conclusion, I thought this would be really simple; buy a controller, have more fun on games. But it's turned into a saga of buying and returning hardware to find something suitable for purpose, and even now the Sony PS4 controller is not perfect for the job.

Luckily i got this on sale at £34.99, not something that is easy to fake because of its design.Initial review:The dualshock 4 has been around a good 4+ years now, It comes with a years manufacturer warranty, a full range of color-ways usually is of an average build quality, which has definately gotten better since launch with the V2 models and various internal component changes, the ergonomics of the pad are arguably the best on the market, the design is still far from perfect but overall one of the better options right now, unfortunately some iterations suffer factory defects due to sheer volume of production, which inevitably causes problems on the consumers end resulting in defective components like the left joystick or shoulder button inconsistancies,at that point it would be advisable to return the product for a replacement or refund. Depending on console placement and controller battery level the controller can also sometimes encounter what I can only describe as input lag, the same you would find playing a PC game with a third party solution, instead of the keyboard and mouse, which can be quite frustrating in the middle of a game when your controller decides to do something other than what you've instructed it to do.Secondary advice:Unfortunately they may not be very reliable in the long run, with a controller lasting on average 8 months before needing to be replaced, depeding on general ware and tare/usage. The Micro USB (TOP CHARGING PORT) and the battery is the bane of the dualshocks existence but with consistent charging cycles and average usage you'll find that it should last more than the average and anything upto 2 years, with that in mind I recommend another product The "Officially Licensed Mains Powered DualShock 4 Charging Dock" by PowerA at a cost of £32/$35 which is £10/$13 cheaper than the official sony product, and by comparison is built to round about the same quality standards, It's Dual charge as described in the picture, it also does the same job of charging the controller but instead of the top Micro USB charging port it uses the proprietary Ext C port on the bottom of the controller, it offers a more consistent charge because of the docking mechanism, resulting in far less drops in power while charging which ultimately keeps the battery in the best shape Ideal for two controllers becuase you can charge one while the other is being used and visa versa, since buying it has revived two older controllers that refused to charge from the top port but were otherwise in good condition.I still recommend the dualshock 4 because other than those afforementioned issues the user experience is otherwise incomparable to third party solutions.

Probably my favourite controller I've used so far (having used the GameCube controller, Xbox Duke, Xbox Slim controller, Xbox 360 controller, Wii Controller, Steam Controller and Switch Pro Controller). Feels sturdy but light in the hands.I don't actually own a PS4, so I use it on my PC. Does it work? Yes, surprising well - on Linux and Windows it's plug and play both wired and Bluetooth. It never has to interact with a PS4, it just works. On Linux, the touch pad acts like a mouse/laptop touch pad enabling 1 and 2 finger tapping as well as 2 finger scrolling. On Windows it acts as a standard gamepad (I don't play on Windows so I can't comment on compatability)The only issues I have with it are: the blue light is very bright and not sure how to turn it off when in use,the shoulder buttons are too small in my opinion - controller would have been better being sightly wider and have larger shoulder buttons and the thumb sticks feel very slippy even though they've been designed to be grippy. And no, it's not a fake. I don't see why a faker would go to the length of lifting genuine stickers or replicating them, and the Sony branding is in the right places. If it was manufactured by a fake then Sony would probably have some legal ground to stop the production of these products, and seeing as this is a pretty popular listing (controllers are frequently sold out) someone at Sony is aware of it. So, to reiterate, it's not a fake. I've no reason to believe its fake. In fact, on Linux when I probed the device for its information it returned information you'd expect from a genuine controller BIOS (something along the lines of 'Sony Interactive Entertainment Controller', a fake would probably return 'Generic Controller', 'Wired Contoller' or something similar)Hope this helps your purchasing decision - £50 is not a small investment

My PS4 is more dear to me than anything, making it not easy for my children and wife that hold a lower rank in the domestic pecking order. So when something happens to my PS4, family life gets disrupted. And something did happen; the young children got frustrated with their silly kids games and handled one of the controllers too rough. This caused the controller to have some small internal loose parts that at random started to affected functionality. Soft and hard resets did not help. Quite upsetting. Even though the other controller helped me to maintain my daily video game routine. However the children’s joint game play got disrupted which is also not good for family life and harmony. And their friends lost interest to visit them! So after 5 years of daily service a new Sony controller had to be ordered, putting other family expenses on hold. A cheaper version was no option assuming these would even be less able to withstand the children’s gaming rage.Upon arrival I was quite pleased with the new PS4 controller. Already I consider the PS4 controller as best in class; right weight and excellent grip. The new controller has more dark-grey in colour than the original black controllers that came with the console. And its rubbery grip feels even better. But otherwise there are no noticeable differences. So I’m quite pleased as are the junior gamers in the family (and their friends).Problem solved - and hopefulled our gear remains in good good condition until day-1 of the PS5 launch.

The dualshock 4 is a controller that, in one swift stroke, deftly fixes virtually all of the traditional problems I (and others) had with prior generations of Playstation controller. Whilst I've always enjoyed the Playstation platform, the comfort of it's controller was always a big issue for me, especially after the original XBOX was released with the brilliant S Controller. Going back to using the Dualshock after using the Controller S was a shock, it made me realise just how uncomfortable it was to use for some games. It's a relief then that for this new generation the Dualshock controller has become perhaps the most ergonomically pleasing and comfortable controllers I have ever used.Every issue I had, from the triggers, proportions and grip have all been fixed and perfected in this controller. It is that good. There are two downsides though. The first is the touchpad, it's a gimmick and awkward to use. Thankfully it's use isn't mandatory in most of the games I've played. The other? The lightbar. Even though software updates have allowed you to dim the brightness it is still too bright and frequently is visible reflecting off my T.V. when a dark image is displayed, thus ruining immersion. Hopefully these issues will be resolved with the Dualshock 5 when the Playstation 5 is released.Overall, this is a wonderful controller that has put Playstation on top of the mountain for console controller ergonomics and usability.

After reading other reviews claiming this was a fake, upon arrival I throughly examined the controller for signs as to whether it was legit or not.I had fallen for a fake controller in the past, I also have legit ones, so I had a few to compare with.Firstly I looked at the sticker on the underside. All seems to be correct. No spelling mistakes, no stretched logo, no issues with spacing, all of which can be seen on the fake controller. The sticker is flush, with no bubbles, it is in the correct position. Overall, it seems real so far.Next I checked the buttons, making sure they weren't sticking out too far or too little. I checked they made the correct sound and did not stick. All seems fine to me.After that I checked the triggers and sticks, both are smooth, they dont stick or move in a jolting manner. I then checked the overall quality of the build, there are no jagged edges, the thumb sticks are the soft rubber as expected.I then weighed the controller against the fake controller and the real. This controllers weight was more in line with the real than fake, which weighs less than the legit controllers. For my final check I stuck on an online multiplayer game and got stuck in. The controller allows for smooth playing and works perfectly.I do believe what I received to be a legit SONY controller and I am happy with my purchase.

Steam connection via Bluetooth:1. Open Device Manager then plug in the controller via USB. Look for the controller in 'Human Interface Devices' then right click and disable it. If you find it in 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers' also disable it there. The above step will enable you to charge the controller without the USB connection interfering with Steam.2. Add a Bluetooth device, this can be done by right clicking the Bluetooth icon in the notification area. Hold the PS button and the Select button at the same time until the light bar flashes white, when the controller shows up right click its icon and select 'properties' then check the box for keyboard etc. and then click 'Apply'.Without doing this step the controller may just connect then break the connection after a few seconds.Tips:You may have to go into Big Picture mode to change the bar colour. As the touch pad is not used in PC games you can separate it into two zones and assign each side to Select and Start, this makes it much easier than using the tiny buttons on the controller.Controller review:Great design and nice to use controls, the analogue sticks are fantastic. Some controllers suffer from stick drift so its a bit of a lucky dip with quality control. The rubber thumb sticks wear issue seems to have been fixed now.

I wanted a controller which could hook up to a Windows 10 computer for a bit of gaming. Having been a PS1/PS2 fan back in the day, I didn't fancy a Xbox One controller, so decided to plump for something more familiar. This controller feels ergonomic for my medium sized hands, all the buttons feel sturdy with a nice action, it has relatively quiet click and looks the part too.In terms of connectivity, I had no problem hooking it up to Steam (which supported it out of box), PCSX2 emulator (2 minutes to set up) and Origin (using DS4 free software, again easy setup). My PC had Bluetooth as standard so no separate dongle was required - again, this took 2 minutes to setup on Windows 10 and works flawlessly via wireless.Anyone even remotely tech-savvy should have no issues here and if you get stuck, then there's always Youtube. You'll need to buy a separate cable for charging if, like me, you don't already have a PS4 - I got one dirt cheap also off Amazon and it worked perfectly too.The only slight negative is that some games, whilst fully supporting it, still use the Xbox A,B,X,Y icons instead of Cross, Triangle, Square, Circle. But this is a minor issue which doesn't detract from the overall functionality.Happy with my purchase - would recommend.

Ordered this(rose gold)as a replacement to my daughter's original old & worn controller, however.. after about a week of typical gaming use (Overwatch, AC Odyssey, Days Gone, ect), the "right-side" analog stick developed a fault which caused the aiming/look turn speed in games to slow down & speed up randomly when fully held down to the left, after fault testing (trying it on other consoles, direct usb connection etc) I confirmed it was the stick/controller at fault & nothing to do with the console settings or in-game settings.I contacted Amazon for advice/support via callback, the agent sorted everything out with no fuss at all, even though I had recycled the original packaging it came in,I popped it into a jiffy envelope & dropped it off at my local post office with the QR code I was emailed for return, free of charge.I received a replacement controller a day later so I cannot fault Amazon at all for their support & service in getting this sorted out.The replacement rose gold controller has been working fine with no problems so far, it looks really nice & is doing the job as intended. My daughter is very happy with it.As a side note I'd like to confirm that both of the controllers I received are 100% Sony original products & not fake.

Brought this to pair with my Nvidia Shield TV PRO 2019Not had any issues, although any issue I had, from the triggers, proportions and grip have all been fixed and perfected in this controller. It is that good. What sets the DualShock 4 apart from similar PS4 controllers is its track pad, which acts like a button itself. It reminded us a little of a diving board in that regard, as there's a space between the end of the button and the body of the controller. In the most recent updates to the PlayStation 4 controller, the track pad has had a handy redesign, which now puts a light bar above it adding an extra dimension to your games as it glows different colors for different kinds of action,as well as showing you when it needs charging up.Sometimes we found the track pad had difficulty differentiating between directions. Various moves were defined by various directional swipes, and it proved too much for the DualShock 4's pad in certain games.Overall, this is a wonderful controller that has put Playstation on top of the mountain for console controller ergonomics and usability.

All I can say is if you have any doubts about this being anything other than the official latest flagship controller from sony as I did, you can relax its the real deal and a lovely controller until now I favored the 360 controllers and was very down on sony's but this new version is getting close it has a lovely feel to it and the joysticks have some decent resistance now, something that has been lacking in there controllers since the start.it still has the same problem with the option and share buttons being to close to the trackpad but that's a niggle not a dealbreaker.all in all a very nice controller, so why only 4 stars? at £75.00 it's overpriced but I needed a decent replacement as mine would no longer charge, half an hour of gameplay and it was dead, this little beauty after one-day solid gaming still at full charge and that junkyard USB port replaced with something much more sturdy.until now the PlayStation controllers have always felt like toys this feels like an adult gaming companion.

Just a word of warning about this product as sold by Amazon EU S.à r.l., UK Branch (VAT Number: GB727255821):I purchased this item from Amazon EU S.à r.l., UK Branch. Although listed as new, the item delivered was clearly used...possibly refurbished. It was only £39, so I was saving a couple of pounds. But I suppose it's a lesson of buyer beware.I didn't realise that I was not purchasing directly from Sony/Amazon UK when I bought it. So I take partial blame. However, on the invoice, the item is still listed as "Condition: New" (pics included of both the invoice and the controller). I have arranged a refund, and do not anticipate any issues processing the claim. The design of the New Dualshock 4 controller itself is fine.I like having the light up-front now. But I think the battery life could be improved, and I find that occasionally the controller loses 'sync' with the system, requiring a reset using the pinhole on the back of the controller.

Since Sony is so tight with their tech and only supply a single controller, we evidently had to stump up the extra to make sure that two people could actually play a game together! The controller is no different from the standard one and works in much the same way.The casing is robust and can stand a few knocks here and there, and being ergonomically designed, sits in the hands well. The buttons are responsive and the soft touch rubber is comfortable despite repeated and often aggressive use.The colour makes the usual screaming about who-was-the-last-one-to-use-and-forgot-to-charge-it argument redundant and encourages better behaviour since the two controllers are easily distinguishable from one another. In every way, this is a reliable sony branded controller and I would purchase again (if during gameplay controller meets walls in full force headlong collision). I recommend the colour option for a peaceful home.

I actually didn't buy this controller for a PS4 console. It works perfectly on some Windows 10 games such as Minecraft with an app called DS4Windows, or natively on PS Now for Windows, and it actually works as a fully supported game controller with a Fire TV Stick/Cube as well.If I could go back on my purchase, I'd probably not have picked a red one though because the LED in the light bar bleeds through the bottom of the controller quite a bit, but I'm sure I can learn to live with this. With 3 years of usage from a previous PS4 controller, I have learned that these are quite easy to break if you're the type of gamer that throws the controller every time you lose. The battery life isn't terrible, but it also isn't the best in the world. The touch bar remains a completely useless feature and I have no idea why they carried this on to the new DualSense controller. All in all, this is a decent controller.

So I hate that this has to cost so much, but I love how well it works. Sure, the joystick rubbers pop off within seconds and the thing needs charging after a few hours of COD, but it is stable and works and looks good. It was sent quickly albeit I had issue with the Amazon delivery driver who crushed this into my gas meter box causing considerable damage to product packaging and the meter box - but regarding Sony and this controller, I cannot fault. I dropped it a star due to price if I am honest. It just growls me that so many years after the PS4 and DualShock have been around that these continue to cost so much. Essentially, even now, you need £250 for a PS4, plus £30-40 a controller, and £60 for top line games even to play as intended. And that is before we mention the PS5's that are never in stock, double the money and even more for 4k games...But, still, it works and did so right out of the box.
