Amiibo could well be one of Nintendo's most important money spinners. Make no mistake - although the concept of interactive objects has already been well explored on other platforms, Nintendo has a trump card of almost unrivalled intellectual property. This works has the advantage of not only producing collectible display models, but providing enhancements to likeable characters.I purchased Samus as I feel it's unlikely that she will be released in another pose/edition for some time, or at least until a new Metroid title appears for Wii U. Also, many of the more popular characters such as Mario, Luigi and Yoshi will almost certainly have new poses and appearances for other franchises in the future,so I would rather bide time. The amiibo is presented well in a plastic enclosure, which can be opened by ripping off the card backing. The figurine just sits inside securely, and is not tied or held into placed. My initial impression was one of disappointment; the figurine appears smaller than promotional images and videos suggest. It doesn't take long to warm to scale however, and upon closer inspection you can actually see impressive detail in the mould and painting. There is no carelessness in the finish, nor any mistakes or spillage in the paint. The plastic is actually quite soft, but this has the added benefit of impact resistance. It provides peace of mind in case you're afraid of dropping or knocking the amiibo accidentally. The base is made from a tougher plastic, which features a gold Super Smash Bros emblem on the top. Before using the amiibo in-game, you can choose to 'register' it within the Wii U settings menu. Here you place the figurine onto the Game Pad when prompted, and in a couple of seconds the connection is made. You assign it an owner (Mii), a nickname, and then pair the figurine again to save the settings.Following this, the amiibo is recognised instantaneously by the Game Pad when prompted. As of yet, Samus can be used as a fighter in Super Smash Bros, a means of unlocking a costume in Mario Kart 8, and a freebies token for Hyrule Warriors. In all, the Samus amiibo has so far worked flawlessly and as advertised. The greatest strength of this platform, as mentioned earlier, is what Nintendo plan on doing with it in the future - more characters, more game integration, more franchises. I would recommend being cautious only because Nintendo will no doubt re-release certain characters in a variety forms, but Samus just looks fantastic and is great for display alone.

Amiibo time is back, they really are like buses as we go a stretch without any and then there's loads come at once, so this time cometh Falco from the Super Smash series and what appears to be the entire Animal Crossing posse!I have held off with all the AC figures for now because one: I'm not at all a fan of the series and two: I think I spotted seven different ones when the fella in my local indy game shop pulled them out for me the day before yesterday. As an Amiibo collector I will of course buy them in time and what was interesting was that I noticed he had Digby and Isabelle by themselves individually(I was under the impression they're only available in a double pack bundled with the game)but as far as I'm concerned this wave is all about the mighty Falco Lombardi!I've loved the Star Fox games since the year dot and I have always found Falco the far more 'geezer' character than I have Fox so I suppose I would have loved this figure regardless but wow it's a peach! As I have already mentioned I collect all Amiibo so I don't tend to take the figures out of the packaging but it's not been necessary to appreciate the beauty of Fox's loyal wingman. I'm not really sure why but I did expect him to be a tad heavier, perhaps it's because of getting used to those chunky 8 bit Mario offerings recently, but his weight matters not when you inspect the wonderful detail and colours on display. It's Friday the 20th of November, so the official release day, yet I been lucky enough to have had him for a couple of days already and I can't stop going to my display to look at him! The manufacturers have really somehow managed to bring a video game character to life in physical form with this Amiibo, the pics I have attached will totally back my rather outrageous claim up.....well I hope so because perhaps I'm a bit biased seeing it's Falco? As has become the norm with my Amiibo reviews of late I have also pictured the figure I'm writing about next to the most relevant comparable character on the market already, so no prizes for guessing it was only ever going to be Fox McCloud. These two figures together are the most distinctive and strongest pairing/double act in the Amiibo universe thus far, mind blowingly cool and the hands down five stars almost seems tight as this Falco figure is so so strong, in fact it's near perfection.

Let's first clear the air by talking about some problems amiibo purchasers are facing:Yes they're ridiculously understocked, but some rare amiibo have been trickling back in stock recently, and more are likely to follow.Yes they may not always look perfect, but amiibo still deliver some pretty enjoyable cross-game DLC if you have software that supports it.Yes scalpers and the prices they charge are ridiculously annoying, but as the RRP on these figures is only £11, you may have already been ripped off if you bought even one amiibo! With that out of the way, Ness is a fantastic addition to the amiibo line. Whether you use him in-game or keep him in the box (saving what may be the penultimate physical piece of Earthbound-related merchandise ever released),the character is well-modelled. I was especially happy with how true to the boxart my Ness was, and unexpectedly pleased by the detail they put on things like his cap and his little yellow rucksack. It's also a bonus that this amiibo doesn't use any out-of-place, badly coloured plastic casts to support it, unlike Fox or Link. While it looks good and feels solid, what really justifies this amiibo's price is the use across various games. Amiibo can be used to unlock extra features in select Wii U and 3DS games, and Ness is no exception. While Ness isn't supported in as many games as characters like Mario or Link, it can still spice up a handful of Wii U titles. At present, you can use Ness to get you:•A Ness-coloured Yoshi in Yoshi's Wooly World•Free items in Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Mario Party 10•A free trial of highlights from a random NES or SNES game on amiibo Touch & Play•Your own Ness rival or ally in the Smash Bros games, using advanced AI to 'learn' from its opponents as it levels upBy itself, the Ness amiibo is a must-have collector's item for anyone with any interest in the Mother (or Earthbound) series. With more amiibo-supporting games to come, the reasons for any fan with a Wii U will only become more compelling. This is a recommended purchase if you can find one at an acceptable price.

First off, let me just say this. I freaking love Nintendo, and especially Zelda. So… It could be a little biased.Right, so, the review categories:Visually: Appealing. As Nintendo were seeming to get at, this is somewhat ripped out of a Toy Store and made into a Nintendo item. It is slightly iffy (like the fact that a lot of the features seem a little… unenthusiastically painted, I guess?), but I would certainly give it an A-Okay on that front.In-game(s) features: This is a little… Urgh. I like the uses, but for something you have to pay a good amount for it is a little lacklustre. In Hyrule Warriors, a big spin-off Zelda title, it is used to obtain the Spinner item (which is my favourite in-game item at the moment),and that is pretty good, a long with a daily "come back to get other stuff" like rupees (in game currency) which is an incentive to use it all the more.In Smash Bros. Wii U (and soon to be 3DS), the Amiibo is used as a sort of Pokémon-rpg-esque character that you can customise and level to make stronger, and then fight yourself. I like this feature, however, what kind of ruins it for me is that all it does is give you something awesome to fight. Sure, it is great if you love a challenge (Level 50 amiibos can be), but I would've liked something better. Oh well, at least I don't need it to play as characters like Skylanders. And finally, in Mario Kart 8, it gets a costume for your Mii. It looks cool, but it is… Lacking.Soo…. Decent in my opinion, but could be a lot better, Nintendo.Final verdict: Yes. Get it if you love Nintendo. If not so much, I wouldn't go for it. I give it 5 stars because I love Nintendo, but it would definitely be 3-4 stars if I was looking critically and as a less-enthused fan of Nintendo. So, please, consider your Nintendo fandomship before splurging for these.

You can't talk about Duck Hunt without mentioning that cheeky pup's giggle. Oh sure, after experiencing a 'Fly Away', we've all pointed our Blaster towards the grass and aimed at that infernal hound...As I mentioned with the R.O.B amiibo, this is pretty much an instant purchase if you're an old school gamer who owned the grey shoebox. It was an exciting time and I'm very glad that Nintendo are paying homage to the icons with a series of amiibo, even if their software support it quite limited. The Duck Hunt Duo amiibo nice enough. The real draw is that each of character's personalities have been captured well, so you can't help but smile at their expressions. There's also the fun irony that after years of playing cat and mouse, they're finally teaming up to do battle in Super Smash Bros. One thing I would point out is that the Duck isn't as bright as seen in the product images, it's actually quite a bit darker. However, I don't think it's worthy of 5 stars for the simple reason that it's not the original 8-bit artwork. The argument against this is that the characters in Super Smash Bros are of course 3D, as depicted by the amiibo, but the trophy within the game itself is of the 8-bit dog chuckling behind the grass. I think a suitable compromise would have been what we've seen with 'Mr Game & Watch', where an alternative mould can be placed onto the base. But don't let this put you off making a purchase, as I can't imagine there will be many - if any more - opportunities for owning a Duck Hunt amiibo. It's great quality just like the other products and is still fun to look at and own.

Look. It’s a figurine dedicated to an average, common goofy enemy in Mario’s world, who is now its own fully-fledged fighter in the biggest videogame crossover event of the 2010s. Let that speak for itself.Thankfully, my order for this miraculous amiibo has arrived in excellent condition (and two days earlier than the estimated delivery too!), without a single sign of damage or defect on the package or figurine itself. As for the faceless carnivore plant itself, its design is fairly straightforward and looks great as a figurine with its own bizarre charm, but much to my surprise, there’s more detail here than I initially expected! More specifically, with the plant pot in which the Piranha Plant stands in looks effing incredible, and that applies to the surprising detail found in both the pot itself and the fertilizer in it to keep the plant up for a good clobbering.Trivially, in ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’, I bestowed the name Stitch (from Disney’s ‘Lilo & Stitch’) upon my Piranha Plant. The contrast in their characterization was too much to ignore. At their most innocent, they are oddly cute, but when the beast within is unleashed, these two become revolting monsters bearing crisply sharp and deadly teeth. Also, ye can have a blue Piranha Plant in this game, so why not. This one definitely stands out amongst the other amiibo I own, and it’s an awesome addition to the ever-growing amiibo family! I highly recommend it, especially for fans of Smash Bros and Super Mario who may be interested on this lad. And yes, I’m still referring these comments to a freaken’ Piranha Plant.

Hands up I have never caught the Pokemon bug and being the old git that I am doubt I ever will now but I have become slightly more familiar with them through playing Super Smash and through collecting Amiibo. As I mentioned in my review of the new 8 bit Mario that's also been released today I've struck up a good relationship with my local independent game shop over here in foreign fields. For this reason I've been able to get my hands on every figure before release date for quite a while now. Where there's not been that much different to admire about the latest retro Mario the same can not be said about Mewtwo! This little chap is absolutely stunning, there's nothing flashy with bells on it as such but it's a superb figure that is actually beautiful by being so plain and simple, that's not the case when it comes to detail though as it's got that in spades!I shall let the attached pics do the talking because as you can see for yourselves Mewtwo really rocks and with those lush pastel colours this Amiibo is an overnight star! I thought taking a pic of this figure next to Lucario for you all to compare was probably the best match anyway but a friend's youngest has informed me they team up in Pokemon matters too whatever that might entail. There are so many excellent Amiibo figures out there, we are talking over 70 in number now when you include the Skylanders' Kongs and Bowsers on the market but this one is definitely up there in the top 10 to 15! Really haven't been able to stop admiring it for the last couple of days it's been in my collection.....great job Nintendo!

I imagine few people will know that Nintendo's Game & Watch series of 'handhelds' were actually some of the very first portable video games. This was something of a niche market due to the limitations of these kinds of products, but it's funny to look back at and witness the similarities that they have with the current DS range, in terms of industrial design.Game & Watch products featured a variety of different characters - not all Nintendo's own - in varying situations, and made up of more than 40 different products. Mr Game & Watch isn't specifically based on any one of those characters, but is inspired them and certainly does an excellent job of recreating the era. What's unique about this amiibo that it comes with 4 different figurines that can be removed and placed onto the base! This is very thoughtful as each figurine captures an iconic image from the Game & Watch series, so fans can choose to display their favourite or most memorable. They are all very high quality and very well made - certainly not cheap looking or feeling. The plastic has a textured surface and a bezel around the edges, which is painted finely in silver. The size of the character is actually quite a bit smaller smaller than the rest of my (growing) amiibo collection, but this is compensated by the accessory he holds or his position on the base.So far this is one of my favourite amiibos and it takes pride of place on my work desk. I love its simplicity, and the character in Super Smash Bros is really fun to train up.

The price on amiibo figurines seems to fluctuate on here, but if you're an Earthbound fan who just wants some merch, whether you play Smash or not, and can spend about £10ish (I got it for less out of sheer luck), then this rendition of Ness is highly recommended. He's small, but cute as a button, and very nicely made. The painting of the stripes on the arms of his shirt are a little uneven on mine (though due to the finicky shape of the figurine, this possibly can't be helped), but other than that even the smallest of painted details are pretty carefully done, right down to his shoelaces and the buckles on his backpack. His base is (far as I know)the standard gold-coloured base for Smash amiibos as opposed to the more colourful ones that have begun to phase in, and something about it honestly quite suits him.I can't speak for the actual in-game functions of the amiibo as I don't have a copy of the current Smash game, though if you know someone with an amiibo-reading console or have one yourself, there's something quite entertaining about being able to personalise the figure digitally by adding data of your own mii and an optional nickname to the thing that can be picked up if you ever decide to give the game a shot (though word of advice that Ness is generally not a character many people opt to play as). The amiibo is read surprisingly quickly and painlessly so it would not require too much technical knowledge to set up for a game or two.

And yet another wave of Amiibo appears so Nintendo can prise our wallets open once more. They got 45 Euro out of mine prematurely seeing my local independent game store got all six in nigh on a week early. In the ideal and non common sense world I'd have bought all six but life is far from ideal and common sense is a necessity so I went with the best three for this week.Any oldies like me, and even many not quite as old, will remember Duck Hunt with that red light gun on the NES many many moons ago so you'll know where this delightful duo hail from. This Amiibo is definitely one for the nippers and the ladies, the mrs was immediately enchanted as she purred "awwww how cute are they" hohum.I am not going to pretend I'm not impressed because I am, the detail is superb and Ninty have done the right thing by having the duck on a clear stilt rather than say the ghastly yellow one they use with Link. The attached pics will show you exactly how appealing this figure is, hmmmm perhaps that should be the plural figures, but you get my drift. It's safe to say these two little charmers will make for this being many people's choice as their favourite Amiibo and I accept it's easy to understand why. I'd not go that far personally and seeing we're up to around 70 figures now with the Smash, Super Mario, Splatoon and yarn Yoshi collections I'm not even sure I have Duck Hunt Duo in my top ten but that said this Amiibo is still well worth the five stars.

The second Fire Emblem figure in the amiibo line, Ike is already doing better than Marth in that he is actually available on the shelf to buy! As with all the other amiibos released so far though there have been some changes to the look of the figure between the initial announcement and the final release. The main differences between the promo-photo and the actual figure are that the base of the sword is now coloured silver rather than gold, which is actually a good thing as it helps the sword to stand out. The tails of the headband are now parallel to each other so when displayed it looks like there's only one end flowing in the wind. The biggest disappointment though is the sword itself,on the promo picture there is obviously markings engraved into the sword - but on the actual model it just looks like there's a couple of cracks and scratches in the middle of the sword. The face also suffers from a lack of painted lips, making everything from the eyes down blur together when it is actually a pretty decent facial sculpt. As well as Super Smash Bros. Ike can also be used in the daily unlocks of Hyrule Warriors and will eventually be compatible with Mario Party 10 and more excitedly with Project S.T.E.A.M for the 3DS where using his amiibo will unlock his character in game. Overall not a bad addition to your amiibo collection, and for Fire Emblem fans surely a must buy after the availability issues with Marth.

As soon as I heard that R.O.B was being released, I had to get him. There is a simple joy to this robot that few will understand unless they owned a NES, or were around to see how a video game could interact with real life objects (essentially, a trial for what we know of today).R.O.B, the Robotic Operating Buddy, was a toy that came bundled with a NES pack consisting of a 2-in-1 game cartridge, which included Gyromite and Stack-Up. If you haven't heard of these games then you're not missing out; while the implementation was pretty sophisticated for its time, the 'games', if you can even call them such, were nothing more than tech demos. R.O.B was slow and cumbersome when moving the spinning discs, but looked very cool. This amiibo is a wonderful tribute to the robot, and I don't think Nintendo could have done a better job. There is plenty of fine printed detail, right down to the R.O.B text on casing and other markings that were originally present. The scale and paintwork is also fantastic, and I like how the eye-cameras are different material. As with a few other amiibos, the product is so nice that I would have bought it even without owning Smash Bros, although it's a perk that he's actually a very good fighter when used properly. I highly recommend this amiibo to any collector if only down to its originality, though the detail may be the best yet.

Managed to get a pre-order in and not have to pay more than RRP. I love Earthbound and Ness is one of the more interesting playstyles in Smash Brothers. Definitely appears to be one of the better quality amiibo characters too, stitching is very clear on his cap and around his shorts. However, he currently only works with Super Smash Brothers for Wii U/3DS and no other games give any unique support for him at this time, so bare that in mind that his use is even more limited than the likes of, say, Captain Falcon, Mario or even Marth.I must admit, I'm getting very worried about opening my amiibo purchases. On one hand, I want to use them and display them together, but on the other hand, they're getting extremely hard to find and I'll feel bad about opening them. I definitely would NOT call ANY amiibo £60 quality though. £15 is pushing it too, but that's the limit. They're nice figures that do neat things, but think about how much they're really worth and they're just not worth supporting scalper prices. You're better off importing a Banpresto Ness figure for half the price the scalpers are trying to squeeze out of you from a relatively cheap-looking figure.I'm pleased with my purchase, but that was at RRP, if I'd paid any more I can definitely say I'd be feeling ripped off.

Charizard has been one of my favourite Pokemon since the GameBoy days, so I simply had to add this little guy to my collection. While the amiibo functionality wasn't a priority, the cynical side of me believes that Nintendo will simply rerelease these characters when - or if - a new Pokemon game arrives in the future with amiibo support. Regardless, this first iteration looks pretty cool. The pose is nice and shows off the magnitude of Charizard's scale, with wide spread out wings and a long torso. His tail has a ball flame erupting from it, which looks fantastic as it's actually transparent orange. The printing on the eyes, chest and claws are fine; the eyes in particular are very effective given how small they are.I'll confess,I'm a little disappointed that the skin doesn't have a texture to it, but at least the smoothness matches other amiibos. At the very least I would have appreciated some sort of webbing or grain to the inside of his wings. For the RRP I believe these Pokemon amiibo are great value for money, as unlike Nintendo's main cannon of characters (Mario and so forth), Pokemon are bound to have less opportunities for release. So, if not for amiibo support, Charizard is a fun little figurine that looks anything but out of place on a desk!

Simple premise. Tap you Amiibo on your Wii U controller and you figurine (in my case Yoshi) comes to life in your game.I purchased my Amiibo for Smash Bros where it can be used to create a fighter who will spar with you and learn from you actions. You can feed and customise your Amiibo and tinker with the stats to create either a formidable comrade or an absolute pain in the proverbial adversary. While not the cheapest item to purchase Amiibo are going to be usable in several games Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and more, so there is a bit more value to them than just a one game add on.Pro's+ Great designs and solid constuction+ A good way to unlock additional content in games+ Easy to update and tinker with.Just tap on the Wii U controller and your goodNegatives- Not cheap but they seem pretty decent quality- Seem to be hand painted but this isn't a guarantee of quaility. My Amiibo has a few ugly imperfections (you can see in my photograph that Yoshi has a nick on his eye)I'll most likely buy more as I'm sure the little one's will love them, only I don't think I'll buy them from Amazon as I'd rather inspect them before purchasing to ensure the quality is there.
