Having just taken on two 11 month old Ragdoll boys, I spent ages researching products, including litter trays. There are so many products on the market, it's difficult to know where to begin. After reading reviews, this 'Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Pan' seemed ideal, and I'm pleased to say, it appears to be excellent so far. I was expecting my cats to use one litter tray each, however, they share one. These are brothers and indoor cats, so it may be different for other cats.Firstly, this product ARRIVES IN A HUGE BOX - From memory, the packaging was approx (L) 137cm X (W) 50cm X (D) 50cm. For some reason the hood and litter tray are packaged next to each other (lengthways),as opposed to the product already being assembled. I'm sure Amazon have their reasons for packing the product this way!Below are some tips to help should you decide to purchase this product and I'll try to include photos:ASSEMBLING - Having read through reviews, I was expecting to have problems with the sliding clips used to connect the hood and litter tray together. Yes they are a bit stiff, and you do need to ensure they are in the locked position, otherwise you could end up with the tray disconnecting from the hood, when you try to move it by lifting the litter box from the handle at the top.The photo of this product on Amazon only shows 2 clips for some reason (1 clip each side) - but there are actually 4 clips (2 each side). If you look closely, you should be able to see embossed padlocks where the clips are attached on each side of the hood - these indicate locked or unlocked, but they are not easy to see. So, before you connect the lid to the tray (with the door flap facing you), you need to ensure the clips are forward (unlocked position), then once the hood is attached properly, push the clips away from you into the locked position. You do need to check the clips are as far back as possible, otherwise the hood will come apart from the base when you try and lift it from the handle at the top.CARBON FILTER - The tiger design at the top of the hood is where the carbon filter is inserted. The first filter is already included, but these do need to be replaced regularly to help eliminate odor - they cost approx £4 for a pack of 2. The filter does seem to contain the cat odor, providing the door flap is down. Some of the reviews indicate that the carbon filter is of a poor design, as the filter is exposed, and their cat(s) can get to it easily and shred it. One of my cats was scratching the filter, so I sprayed it with a little bit of 'Feliway Cat Calming Spray' and he's now stopped. The spray is quite expensive (approx £8 for 20ml). However, I've used it for other purposes; for example, on the cats' bedding when I went to collect them, then again for their first trip to the vets - they were remarkably calm! I've also used the spray on furniture and carpets around the home to help settle them in and stop any scratching of furniture.TRANSPARENT DOOR FLAP - Measuring approx (W) 21-25cm (slightly wider at the top) by (H) 26cm; this is great for larger cats. The door flap is attached to the carbon filter at the top of the hood, so it can be folded up and back onto the actual hood if your cat isn't used to using a cat flap. Alternatively, the door can be removed completely, providing you are very careful; by pulling the plastic catch away from the bit where the door flap is inserted into the catch. Once your cat is comfortable using its litter box, you can then try him or her with the door flap down. He/she may need encouraging by putting something under the door flap to wedge it up/slightly open at first, and then gradually lowering it until the door flap is completely down. Some reviews indicate issues with the door sticking. I've noticed it can be problematic if the top part (the tiger design with the carbon filter) isn't properly in place - it's easily fixed by re-aligning both sides (pushing it down from the top). If you have a small cat, you may find it takes him or her a little bit of time to get used to the door flap. Also, the door is quite noisy when it flaps back into position, so this may scare some cats at first. If this happens, I would recommend following the steps above until the door is fully down and your cat is used to the noise.LITTER TRAY (Bottom section) - This is very deep and requires a lot of litter. The tray is approx 15cm high and deeper at the back. My cats seem to like to dig deep and flick litter everywhere, so I fill the tray to approx 6-8cm. You may be able to get away with less cat litter, but it will depend on your cat(s), the litter you use and frequency of cleaning the litter tray. I have 2 neutered boys and they appear to be fairly clean, but I understand from some reviews, that some cats urinate against the side, and the urine leaks out onto the floor - the reason for leakage appears to happen as there is no overlap between the lid and tray.LITTER BAGS - I wasn't able to find any litter bags/liners that fit this litter box. I posted a question on Amazon but didn't get any helpful responses. With these being my first cats, I was concerned about cleaning the tray out, but it is relatively easy, although again, it will depend on which cat litter you use and whether your cats are messy or not.CAT LITTER - very few people talk about which cat litter they use with this 'Catit Jumbo Hooded Cat Pan'. Firstly, I now know there are important factors to consider with cat litter choice. These factors are cost, wastage, clumping vs non-clumping, environmentally friendly, hygienic, eliminates odor, time and ease of cleaning, and finally trailing from the litter tray. I'm sure there are many other things to consider.I had planned to use Pettex Pampuss Woodbase, as I understand it's more environmentally friendly than other products, but I was discouraged from using it due to the volume required for this 'Jumbo Catit Litter Box' and possible wastage - apparently the pellets crumble and turn into sawdust, so you either have to sieve it regularly after use to separate the sawdust and pellets for re-use, or throw the entire litter and sawdust away and re-fill the tray with new litter. My understanding is that, due to the size of the tray, this product will either be time consuming and quite dusty when separating the pellets from the sawdust, or it will work out quite expensive if refilling the tray each time. It does however, have great reviews, so please do not be discouraged. At the end of the day it's down to individual choice.I was advised to use Catsan hygiene (granules) non-clumping, as it is apparently one of the better litters for eliminating odor. I understand this is one of the preferred cat litters on the market. I've found it gets quite smelly the more it is used as urine is absorbed into the granules. It may just be me, and take a little bit of time to get used to as these are my first cats. What I have found with this litter is, if your cat urinates in the same place all the time, the granules become less absorbent, and the urine collects at the bottom of the tray - making it smelly (and after time, stains the bottom of the tray). To give you an idea of the amount of Catsan litter I used to fill the tray to approx 6cm deep was 10L.I've researched other litters extensively, and I'm going to try Cat's Best Öko Plus next. From the reviews on Amazon (over 300), it appears to to have many advantages. It seems, that whilst it appears more expensive, it will save you more money in the long run - especially if you have more than one cat. It's eco friendly as you only need to completely fill the litter tray once and add litter - apparently it clumps around the cat waste so you only remove the litter where the cats have been (no wastage); its biodegradable and can be flushed down the toilet; it's hygienic; and last of all, it holds odor well. The only negative I could really see was that it treads more than other litters do, and can end up around the house.*UPDATE ON CAT LITTER*I'm now using 2 Catit Jumbo litter boxes and have switched over to Cat's Best Öko Plus litter. Lots of positives: it eliminates urine odor (my cats don't bury their poo so that can smell a little); its environmentally friendly; it clumps around their wee so you can just scoop it out and flush it down the toilet; it's more cost effective as you only scoop out the litter around the pet waste. Providing the litter is 6-8 cm deep you only need to keep topping up, then every 2-3 weeks clean the box out completely. At this point I like to replenish the litter boxes with new litter, so I will let the litter run low so I'm not throwing too much away. You could however, re-use the litter and mix in new litter as it doesn't smell. Only one negative: the litter trails everywhere - even with a Jumbo Easyology cat litter mat. I just keep a cord free Hoover nearby so I can hoover each time I scoop out. With regard to scooping out the litter, I keep a small container and scoop next to my litter boxes, so I can transfer the litter into the container inside the box then flush it straight down the toilet.CLEANING - Removal of pet wasteThe front door flap and carbon filter lift up and over for easy access of removing soiled letter.CLEANING - Complete cleanThe connecting 4 clips unlock the hood from the base to allow the litter to be pored out of the litter tray into a bag.Cleaning the tray is fairly easy for me as I have an outdoor tap to get rid of the worst and rinse the tray out (you could always use a bucket of water or a watering can). I have purchased 'Savic Refresh'r Cleaning Spray' which really does leave the tray and room smelling nice and fresh (approx £4). It's an antibacterial household spray which is safe to use on pet products, and, in addition, can be used for to remove stains and urine odor (I've not needed to use it on stains yet). If you can't find it on Amazon try google search.I hope you find this review helpful.

Ok, it's a cat toilet so it's hard to get super enthused about it in general, but as cat toilets go it's a really good one. I struggled for years with the automated Litter-Robot. While it seems like a good idea in theory, it turns out to be way too expensive because it has a short lifespan and is actually more work than a simple "manual" litter box. Before that, I had the kind with a rounded back that you roll half way over, and back again. Doing so sifts the litter and dumps it into a drawer. You roll it back to redistribute the litter. It requires a fair amount of room to roll and is still a pain. The Catit Jumbo is a low-tech solution that is the best and easiest to use I've owned so far.Just flip the top up, scoop crud, rake litter back in place a little, close lid. Like a lot of things in life, procrastination is your enemy. It may seem like more work to do something more often, but it's actually painless to do a little more times, than to let something build up and do it fewer times. Clean this litter box once in the morning and once when you come home, and it's actually very little work, but always clean and never stanky. Let it go for too long and things go south, as with any litter box. Combine this unite with the Litter Genie and you've got the simplest, easiest solution going for dealing with cat crap. If you add a Blackhole Cat Litter Mat to the set up, you avoid having your cat track litter away from the litter box all over your house. What makes the Catit Jumbo the optimal solution is it's size. I have one cat, but the Caitit Jumbo being so large is what makes it so good. It's huge, which makes it easy to get your hands in with plenty of room to work while avoiding the inside surfaces of a cat toilet. One downside of that for some maybe that it takes a ton of litter to fill it up to an appropriate level to keep cat pee from making its way to the bottom of the unit. I don't find that a problem because it also means that once it's filled up, it lasts a long time. Being so large and holding so much litter is especially good for one cat because it means if you miss scooping it out a time a day, or even a couple of days (or three if ya wanna push it); your cat has plenty of litter available to bury a couple days of dookie and still have a relatively clean place to go (as in won't decide to forgo a 'spoiled' litter box in favor of takin' care o' bidnez behind your sofa). The size and capacity of this unit is enough to take off for a long weekend, leave your cat on its own (if your cat is comfortable being solo for a few days) and not worry about the litter box getting completely nasty or coming home to copious stanky mess.I took a star off because the plastic is somewhat thin. My unit was just fine, but I can see where the people who gave it bad reviews because theirs arrived warped or with locks that don't function are testament to why thicker is better when it comes to large plastic structures. You might be subject to the whims of lady luck with the structural soundness of the unit that ships to your door. If you order this and are unlucky enough to get one that arrives a little cattywampus (pun intended), IMO it would be worth sending it back for a replacement, because as dookie dumpsters go, this works great. Aside from thin plastic, I think this unit could only be better if it somehow trained my cat to do a little light house work, maybe vacuum once in a while or do a load of laundry, which I think any other device that has "robot" in the name should include as an option. Maybe that's too much to ask?become

Big enough for larger ( or fat ones! Lol) cats but no so big that it takes up a lot of room. I work with my local VSA & sometimes would take in kittens, cats when the shelter was full. Someone told me that the large plastic storage bins ( Walmart , target $10) without the lid, make good large cat boxes & no litter gets out! We got the clear ones & they did work well. Cats jumped right in & out no problem. Well , my cat has got a few years older & a lot fatter! The vet said it's genetic & she's predisposed to be heavy (?) , so wet grain free food diet etc. but she couldn't jump into those bins any longer! I looked at some litter boxes in the pet stores & they were cheaply made yet not cheap in price.I saw this one & gave it a try! Wow , it's great! Very sturdy & well made. The hole is wide enough for my very fat cat to get in & out easily. The top lifts for easy scooping without having to remove the whole top & unlock the sides, which is very convenient . It has a carbon filter for smells that's cheap to replace. If your cat has never had a hooded box before, the top of this lifts up & will stay up ( as I said to scoop easily) & it makes it more OPEN for cats to get use to the hood. I had no problems with any getting right in it. I went to a pets supply that I go to when I can't get my Amazon stuff as quickly as I need it, & they had this same litter box- $49.99 ! They had a smaller sized one of this that was $38 . I couldn't believe it! I bought 2 more when I got home. They are easy to clean & the litter doesn't stick to the bottom of this one, sometimes I would have sludge like spots on the bottom that were so hard to scrape off ! I clean them each day ( scoop out & wash weekly), I think it may be the litter I used? I use Dr. Elsely's litter in Blue bag 40lb for about $14 & these boxes are great! Cut down on the stinky smells sometimes from them too, with the good the carbon filter on top!Oh, also it low enough for kittens to get in, or fat cats, old cats.... I know ppl ask that on these , so yes I don't see any problem with the kittens or the older cat thats very heavy getting in this. But I don't have litter all over either! One likes to dig to China after he's done & with any normal litter box I had the Sahara dessert of litter to clean up! Hence why we got the large plastic totes , which worked wonders, until the fat one couldn't get in any longer. But I love these! No mess , easy to clean, cats love them, easy in & out for all sizes. Highly recommend .Also you can't beat this price! Seriously, pet stores are 2x at least the amount on here. ( uh I hope the don't raise the price now!! ?) .Ps. I got the other 2 from the warehouse , said like new but a few blemishes less than 2% on top , back or side. Well I didn't notice anything except one TINY scratch on 1 side of a box & who's gonna notice or care about that?!! It was like $5-$6 cheaper! Great deal. Chk the "used" prices, they aren't actually used! Just a scratch here or there or the outer box isn't perfect. I always save money that way, it's great!Hope this helps someone & their loved furry family member! Okay well the cat. There's some pretty furry men out there that could use some manscaping , waxing, pruning,mowing- hey whatever works! Unless you like hugging a sweaty sweater. Hey, I don't judge. I'm sure it might be nice on a cold night ??Anyway......Have a great day,Jenn~

Purrfect! You wouldn't think a litter box was a big deal...until it is. We started with a litter pan. The litter was everywhere, the smell was overpowering and not contained, the pan area itself was small, and sometimes things wouldn't quite make it inside. I looked at many, many different types of boxes and read many, many reviews before choosing this one.Pros:*Large Size. You can use an entire box of litter in it and still have plenty of room (which I did). This helps to cut down on smell and give the cat plenty of clean areas to use if you don't get to it right away. There's also plenty of room for a large adult cat to maneuver-no reason for the cat to feel trapped or uncomfortable. For the first couple weeks, we left the door open so the cat could become accustomed to it. Now, it stays closed all the time. I honestly think the cat prefers this. I think it feels safe and not as vulnerable-kinda like we do with a door on the stalls in a bathroom. And, best of all, what's supposed to be "in" the litter box stays in. Even if the cat backed up to the entrance, the door would keep it all inside.*Smell (or lack of). I honestly cannot smell the litter box (or should I say-what's in it) and I am pretty sensitive to it. It's my teenage son's cat and the box is in his room and I'm pretty sure that he doesn't clean it as often as he probably should. When I enter his room, I smell a teenage boy's room-not a kennel. (Those of you with teen boys will know what I'm talking about...)*Durability. The box has four fold up clips (2 on one side and 2 on the other) that secure the top to the bottom/base. This thing is heavy (remember we use an entire box of litter) and I was hesitant when lifting it by the handle at first-I could just imagine the clip breaking or coming loose and the entire contents ending up all over my floor! I did not need to worry everything has held together fine. In fact, after 4 months of use, it looks like we just bought it.*Ease of cleaning. Daily cleaning/scooping is easy. The door and piece above the door flip & fold up on top of the box and there's plenty of room to reach in. The clips snap on & off, so you can also easily lift the top off to scoop. When replacing all of the litter, we just pop off the top, dump litter into a trash bag and spray off with a hose. Could not be easier.Cons:*Size. It's large size is great for the cat, but it is very noticeable in a room and takes up a good area. We also have a Large Purr-fect Pet Purr-fect Paws Cat Litter Mat SKU: 1221086 that we purchased for $14.99 from Petco that I highly recommend. This mat goes under the litter box and covers the floor in front of the box. When the cat exits, any litter on it's paws are trapped in the mat and not tracked all over the house. We just take that out and shake it outside or spray clean as needed. Anyway, both combined take up a large area. It's a small price to pay and I am purrfectly fine dealing with this, rather than some of the other issues!I highly recommend, if the size is fine for you, that you look no further and purchase this litter box!

Most litter boxes on the market are designed for humans, not cats. All of those tiny pans, self-cleaning boxes, and boxes shaped like furniture are really not the kind of thing your cat wants, and they are a big contributing factor in behavior problems like house soiling. This is the first litter box I've found that even comes close to what is ideal for your cat!First of all, it's big! Your cat should be able to stand up straight, turn around, and dig without bumping into the sides of the box. This one fits the bill for all but the largest cats. It's also quite deep, which means you can fill it with lots of litter. Other reviewers have been complaining that this box requires too much litter, but that is simply not true - your cat needs at least 2-3 inches of litter depth to dig around in, and this is the first box I've found that provides enough space to hold that amount! This box is also made of very smooth, durable plastic and had curved sides, which makes it very easy to clean. Dirty litter doesn't stick to the sides, so no need for scraping or power washing! And because you can provide adequate litter depth for your kitty, urine doesn't pool in the corners or bottom of the box the way it can with smaller boxes when you're not using enough litter. The high sides are also great for keeping the litter contained. With other boxes, my boy would fling litter halfway across the room! With this box plus a litter trapping mat in front of the opening, litter stays in one place and is very easy to clean up.My one complaint about this box is the door. Most cats do not like to use a fully enclosed box - there have actually been scientific studies that prove this! Plus, when the cat starts digging it can get pretty dusty in there and it's really not good for them to be stuck inhaling all that dust. The door is easy to flip up out of the way, which is how I use it, and my boy likes to stick his head out the opening while he does his business. But I would prefer to see Catit remove the door from the design entirely, because I know there are many selfish owners out there still forcing their cats to use it.If you want to know whether a particular litter box is suitable for your cat, a good indicator is the amount of time your cat spends in it. If your cat jumps in, does his business, and immediately jumps back out, that box is not appropriate. Your cat should dig and sniff, do his business, and then dig some more. This is the first box I've found that my cat actually wants to spend time in. Yes, it's bigger and clunkier than other boxes on the market, but that's what makes it so much better for your cat! And at only $25, you really can't go wrong with this litter box. I recommend this box to all of my cat owning friends now!

UPDATE: Monday 19th August...I received the replacement the day after ordering it. Excellent service by Amazon again. This time the Litter Box was already assembled with no sign of there ever having been any annoying tape keeping the two halves together. On removing it from the packaging, I could see straight away that it was better than the original had been; all the grey connecting sliders were there and they fit much better. They are harder to slide and I wonder if that's because the other box wasn't actually new... i.e. that I wasn't the first person it had been delivered to - The packaging of the last one was pretty crushed in a couple of places and torn badly too unlike the newer delivery. Was the former one someone else's return? I don't know, but I am now happy to give the Catit Litter box 5 stars!I let the kittens play in it while still empty; first with the flap up and then after a couple of hours with it down. This flap doesn't catch at all, though if you don't close the top access flap properly it does touch one of the sides.Once they seemed completely used to it (only one day) I filled it with litter (World's Best) and they pretty quickly used it with the flap still up. That was last Thursday. Today I thought I'd try the flap down while I was around, and they have both now been in and quite happily deposited their respective ''business'' - Success! It is rather large I agree, but with it being enclosed, I think anything smaller would make it more difficult for a cat/s to use, it seems ideal for two cats and I am very happy with the item and am pleased to recommend it._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________I've literally just received the the litter box; it seems pretty ideal for my needs (No, I'm not intending using it myself!) It is very large as stated by most reviewers but the dimensions are as shown in the item details and I'd checked it would be appropriate before ordering.I have two new 3½ month old kittens, and this gives them plenty of space to kick around in after doing their stuff. I let them play in it last night while still empty, with flap open and flap closed. They managed to get in and out ok when flap closed though I can see that it does catch a little at the sides and will only leave the flap down while i'm around until i'm sure it's ok.The three star review is because, like other reviewers have found, one of the grey slides which keeps the two halves together is missing. I've ordered a replacement 'cos I'm not going to settle for a faulty item and can just drop the parcel off at a Collect + shop.

LOVE this litter box! I have had the Catit Large size litter box for a while now and love it, which is what prompted me to try this one. Well, that and the fact that I have additional cats now :) I have no reason to believe this Jumbo box won't hold up as well as my Large one and it has been Great. There are no scratches on the bottom or sides, which make scooping and cleaning a breeze. I like the charcoal filters on both, although I do have some problems keeping those in, as my kittens find them to be delightful chew toys (this is mostly just on the Large litter box). I originally bought this brand/type because I thought I would use the lift up door/half-top feature to scoop instead of lifting off the entire lid.It may be because I just don't have enough lighting in the closet where I have one of them, but really I just found it as easy to lift off the whole top. I only use the lift-up door to check the box. I do like this feature, though. I read a lot of other reviews before buying this Jumbo box and some complained of issues with the swinging door--I have not had a problem with the Jumbo or my Large box. They have both worked perfectly. I also read complaints of people trying to carry their litter box by the handle and that not working. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not quite sure why one would want to carry the litter box that way?? Anyway, this is not a problem for me either, since I do not carry mine like that. I wouldn't expect a plastic handle and four plastic clasps to support a box full of who knows how many pounds of litter (depending on type) and waste...especially while trying to awkwardly maneuver this huge box. Um, no. Not meant to be carried that way, lol! :) I use the handle to lift the lid off of the box...very convenient. One note, though. Not that it bothers me, but the plastic sliding lock/clasps do come off fairly easy. For someone that would want to carry the box, this might be an issue. Just a couple more things...I love that it contains litter odor (as much as anything can!) and my cats have all taken to them with no problem. I did leave the 'door' up for a bit for them to get used to the box, but it only took a couple of days and they were using it with the door down, no problem. I have one super-sized cat and a couple of cats/kittens that occasionally go together, so this Jumbo box is perfect for them. Plenty of room for them to 'go' and not be cramped to do their business. Super happy with this purchase and it was an awesome price, too!!

Firstly I should explain our situation; we have 2 18 mnth old cats in a large (cat safe) apartment, with no loose soilable outdoor areas and our cats rely solely on their litter trayPrior to this purchase, we had to adapt an underbed storage container to contain our pussies rampant (often phantom) scrapings. Before anyone comments btw, this was kept in a well ventilated bathroom.... and not under a bed!Even with the extra deep sides our pussies still seemed to cover the apartment with chippings!Second to this, was the smell; no matter how often we sifted, scooped or did the 'full change and wash', there always seemed to be that 'cat' smell about the place. Then came the Catit Jumbo Cat Pan and all of our kitty litter dreams came true......well almost,..... after all, cats are involved here! So, what changed? How and why?Well, firstly, the Catit Jumbo Cat Pan (CJCP) has a a really deep pan, which is crowned by a doubley high cover, this allows a nice thick layer of litter, lots of manoeuvrability inside the pan and the cats are not cramped from above. The CJCP also has a retractable door which can be flipped up leaving a nice, serviceable, scoopable, opening, which also gives you a choice if you have a 'flap shy' pussy. If the door is down, you get almost no scatter at all!!!We also found that the lidded enclosure was very good at restricting the spread of nasty odours, though this had little to do with the filter, which was scratched out and dragged around the place well before it got filled with litter!!!The product is extremely easy to use and the lock-clips make it really easy to lift and replace the lid.We found that our cats adapted to it easily and it gave us more free time to ourselves. This was bought admittedly at the the expense of a deeper layer of litter, however, it did seem to last a lot longer. Finally, It has to be said that whilst we are extremely happy with our CJCP, we feel that the experience was well supported by the recommended items that we bought along with our litter tray. We bought super-large plastic liners which allow you to clean your tray easily with one fell swoop and a litter mat which I initially scoffed at.Ironically the litter mat is surprisingly efficient at containing stray particles and a 'must' purchase if you want to get the best from your tray.

I was just about to give up searching for a big enough enclosed litter box for my Maine Coon when I stumbled upon this gem!!After reading the measurements, reviews and comments I was still sceptical whether it would be big enough for my big Maine Coon Tom.Boy! Am I glad I was wrong! It is absolutely HUGE!It is deep enough so Loki can scratch to his hearts content, which he likes doing vigorously every time he goes, without litter flying out the flap! There is definitely less tracking and spilling of litter because of the depth of the tray and the extended hang-over edge just under the flap exit.He can sit or stand up and move about without having to crouch or being cramped in any way!Obviously with the litter box being so huge it uses double the amount of litter that I used to use.But on the positive side, I don't have to empty the whole tray as often as I did the previous one, which just about balances the cost of litter out.The quality of the box is not great but not bad at all for the price. My previous enclosed litter box (the largest I could find available in the shops) were £7,00 more expensive than this one that towers above it.I wouldn't trust picking the box up by the handle while filled with litter, it looks very flimsy - I don't trust it would carry the weight without slipping out or even breaking. The flap will have to be handled with care because the 'hinges' seems really flimsy also. The filter is just a piece of course filter fabric stuck in an opening provided for it - not very neat. And my mischievous kitty started ripping at the edges from above and below as soon as I put it in!The hood is secured to the tray by four sliding clips (two on each side) which seems secure enough.Obviously with the vent at the top where the filter is secured this tray is not suitable for outdoor use.The black animal print motive on the top is actually printed/painted on, so can not be removed. If you don't like it you will have to use some basic craft skills, a scissor and sticky vinal or craft paint of your own colour preference to cover it.Imo. The pros and cons in my case balances each other out, hence a full 5 star rating. It is really difficult to find big enough of everything for my Maine Coon. And the price of this item is more than fair for what it is.

Boy, when they say "Jumbo" they mean it!After recently adopting two rescue kittens, I found their poops to be quite heinous. (Processed wet cat food is notorious for this) (Although it does help get more liquid into their diet, unlike dry food. Urinary tract infections are NO fun). After living with the periodic stench bombs, I began looking for a covered litter box.Previously, I had used covered boxes, but always heard mixed results from covered boxes with doors (some cats don't like 'em, some do). However, based on other reviews, I chose this box for its ability to open up the front and top, allowing you to leave the door open if necessary (also makes cleaning a breeze cause you don't have to remove the whole top!).In the case of my kittens, inquisitive as they are, I made sure to introduce them to the box, convince them the door wasn't evil (and yes they can open it), and they've been using it since! My other box, a basic, uncovered thing, is now only used when this option is currently ocupado.I'm sure some of it has to do with this box being HUGE, and thus giving them plenty of room to decide where exactly they shall begin their chemical warfare. However, there is a lot to be said for cats that enjoy their privacy whilst pooping. The clear door offers them a kitty window with which they may survey their domain while dropping off a load, and it easily swings back and forth for even my small kittens to move through. I did put a little pressure on the plastic around the sides to ensure the door wouldn't stick like some other reveiwers have stated. From what I've seen with mine, it's less of a "stick" and more of a friction catch, easily pushed past by most cats (assumedly, as my kittens are not particularly herculean and don't have an issue with it).No matter the threat level of the little nuclear warheads that my kittens drop, I have yet to smell even the smallest whiff of their fragrant gifts. I'm sure the "carbon filter" on top does something, however, as long as their little stench nuggets remain unappreciated by yours truly, I don't care what magic this box uses.As of writing this review, I am choosing to purchase a second so that each of my furry tyrants may poop in peace from each other.

Yank the sliding clips off the sides as soon as you get it, and throw them away. Leaving those on will lead to nothing but frustration from trying to get the top to sit correctly on the bottom. They're completely pointless. (Why would you want to lock the top to the bottom? To carry around a full box by the top handle? I wouldn't trust those flimsy clips to hold that much weight!)Silly clips aside, this is great for BIG cats, and for keeping kicked-out litter to a minimum. (And one of my cats likes to kick litter like he's practicing for the Rockettes!) I removed the clear plastic door and folded back the filter-holding flap, leaving it as a semi-enclosed hooded box. Litter containment is what I need, not odor containment.Remember—If your litter-box smells too bad to leave it open in your home, it needs to be scooped more often or the litter changed! Containing the stench in the box makes it really unappealing to your cat. (Imagine how you would feel if you had to use an enclosed, rarely-emptied, possibly dust-filled Porta-Potty as your only bathroom.)While the opening is big enough to conceivably scoop with the top still on (provided you fold back the filter flap) it's much easier to just lift the top off and set it aside. Unless your cat has a habit of spraying high on the inside walls of the hood, the top shouldn't transfer any yuck to your floor.I keep a small towel spread outside the door (like a giant welcome mat) to catch the bulk of any tracked litter. Just shake it out outside, vacuum the area for good measure, and you're good to go.EDITED TO ADD: Bear in mind that this thing is BIG, so it can be really heavy and unwieldy when it's full of litter (depending on how lightweight you brand of litter is.)When it's time for the monthly clean-out and fresh start, I've found it's easiest to use a large non-slotted scoop (like what you'd use for bulk food items in a grocery store) to transfer about half of the litter into a kitchen-sized wastebasket with liner. (If your scoop is big, it doesn't take long.) Once the pan is empty/light enough to handle, just pour the rest into the wastebasket. Then clean/sanitize the pan, get it dry and refill with new litter.

This box does a good job controlling litter kick-out without being so high or having such a small opening that my cat can't get in and out fairly easily (he's tall, but he's also got arthritis - so a top-opening box is not an option for us). The door arrived cracked , but my cat refused to use the door even after I specifically made sure he understood he could open it from inside, so I had to take it off anyway. The second part of the flap, where the filter is and the top flips back, is GREAT. It makes it easy to scoop out clumps and poos without having to fully remove the lid and set it down getting nastiness on the floor. The jumbo is a suitable size for bigger cats like Ragdolls - my Ragdoll mix is 14b and pretty long-legged,and he can easily stand up fully and turn around with the lid on, doesn't have trouble with the door size, etc. But it does take a lot of litter to fill (a whole 20ish-lb box of Fresh Step), so if your cat(s) is/are smaller, you probably want a smaller box.Important tip: the "locked" and "unlocked" icons for the latches indicate the direction to push to lock/unlock, respectively, NOT the state it's currently in! At first they may be hard to move; I found there was flashing (excess plastic left from manufacturing) around some of the edges of the latch holes, and trimming it off with an exacto blade helped a lot. When I switched to clay litter, I made the mistake of banging my scoop on the bottom too hard while trying to knock the very sticky wet litter off the scoop. Turns out the slightly raised design of the bottom leaves it susceptible to a corner of a metal scoop breaking it if you hit hard in the wrong spot....oops! Really my fault more than the box's, just warning others not to make the same mistake. Right now I've got the crack covered with duct tape on the bottom, which is working, but that's clearly a temporary fix, so it's new box time.I plan to buy another of the same brand and general size, despite the flaws, because it does help control the kicked-out litter and I really love that top flap ...but not from this particular listing, since it's now only available from third party sellers at huge markups.

As the title says, I never thought I'd love a litter tray up until I bought this beauty! As far as looks go it's pretty bland, and the zebra print detail doesn't really do much for me, but what this tray has done for my life is nothing short of amazing. Let me explain:I have three cats who have always used the great outdoors to go loo, up until a few months ago, when, one by one, they started destroying the house. It wasn't their fault as they were each diagnosed with different illnesses that unfortunately meant that when they had to go, but for someone not used to scooping litter at all, having three cats frequently using a small tray at unpredictable hours of the day did not a happy owner make.Cue this big boy!Granted, it takes a HECK of a lot of litter to fill it up, but BOY does it last! I use this tray in conjunction with large litter liners and clumping cat litter (average brand, from my local supermarket), and it suits all three cats for approx. a week or two. The litter depth means that whilst my cats are happily burying their refuse, they don't reach the bottom of the tray, so it doesn't stick to the sides (whilst the liners and the clumping litter do even more to prevent this). The large size means that even my largest boy (a 6kg monster) can happily tuck his whole body in and manoeuvre whilst he does his business - he even has room to spare! One of my cats is an energetic digger - she literally flings the litter outside of the box when she digs, but with this box that isn't a problem.I don't mean to say that I leave the litter for a week, but with a single scooping in the morning it'll last until nightfall, and vice versa, and with regular top-ups, it lasts the week. Again, with three cats using it.I took the door off, as I don't think that the cats could quite figure out what to do with it, and overall it made the space seem quite claustrophobic for them - I think that was a design idea more for us humans than for the cats.Overall, I hope that I have described a simple yet brilliant litterbox, one well worth the money.

Ok maybe I shouldn't go as far as calling it a castle but it's pretty damn big!! Bought this haven't bought three others off Amazon prior to it, the 'magical self cleaning litter tray', the 'musical relaxing tray', the 'fashion show tray' and so on. I am easily swayed by ads you see. In the case of every 'sophisticated' tray, I encountered problems that turned it into a sophisticated mess... So we needed to go back to basics of litter tray: BIG, EASY to CLEAN, LOOKS GOOD, ADEQUATE WEIGHT AND SHAPE. Guess what?! This is it. The mother of all litter trays. My white black female house cat (small-medium depending on food intake) and ginger boy cat (medium-large depending on food intake... mostly large)tried it out together when we first got it. Seeing as they had been fighting over territory, it was the closest I had seen them stand in days!! So arguably this tray is encouraging cat camaraderie... Seriously however, it is large enough, wide enough and tall enough to fit two cats in at once. Which means that it's big enough for a large cat to fit comfortably and turn around as they cover up their business. You could put plenty of litter in it which cats clearly adore, but because of how easy it is to clean, you really don't have to change the litter that often! It's actually a money saving litter tray! The material it's made from and the way its is shaped, allows the litter clumps to be scooped off easily and without mess, even if they are slightly stuck to the bottom or sides of the tray. When it's time to change the litter, we usually empty the whole lot out, clean it with warm water/soap and a cloth, dry it and replace with new litter. It's really easy quick and simple to do. The design is solid, no part of it will break easily. The cover is very easy to remove, and even though it is white, so can get dirty quickly with paw prints, it's very simple and easy to clean with a cloth. All in All, I nominate this for the litter tray award of the year... is there such a thing?? Well there should be!!!!

It just arrived today and it looks like it will work great. I've had cats for 25 years and have gone through almost every kind of litter box out there; and I have a good feeling about this one due to:- Very clever folding hood design, which is intended for easy scooping (you won't need to remove the top); but it will have additional value for cats who are skittish about covered boxes...just leave the flap up- Clever design for the filter too -- the cats will have to work hard to get that out :-)- Sturdy plastic, including the locking mechanism and handle- Pretty big but not too big (of course this is subjective; but I've had bigger boxes that truly posed space problems and this will not)If it performs as expected,it would normally get five stars from me, but I docked one for a very simple design flaw, which hopefully they'll fix in the future: the icons that show when the box is "locked" and "unlocked." HAVING the icons is a great idea, since the lock can't be seen without turning the box completely upside down; and there's no easy way to tell whether one particular slider is locked at the moment or not.The implementation is really odd though:- When the sliders are in the unlocked position, the "locked" icon shows.- When the sliders are in the locked position, the "unlocked" icon shows.I get that their intent was that you'd slide in the direction of the icon to change toward the desired state; but this is completely counter-intuitive, at least imo. (If it's locked, it should say locked!! Who is with me on this??)Anyway, when I first set it up, it took me a ridiculous amount of time to figure out what was going on and why the lid wouldn't lock properly. Now that I understand the iconography, it won't cause any more problems; but still...with as much truly good design that went into this product, I'm surprised that this slipped through.Aside from that, I fully expect that this will work beautifully and will update if that's not the case.
