I have owned a variety of cat-specific furniture over the years. I have spent more money, than any sane person should, on high-end wrought iron beds and Martha Stewart Foot stools (directly from her website before her products were in pet stores). I have also purchased a variety of cat towers and scratching. All of these offerings have been laughed at and mocked by the Cat Gods that I share a living space with.Meanwhile there has never been a cardboard box enter my house that was not part of a turf war of some sort. So, imagine my joy when I found a stylish cardboard cat scratcher shaped like furniture. I was giddy with joy as I hoisted this contraption into my cart at the pet store - and then quickly drowned in sorrow when I found a $30 price tag associated with it.Back on the shelf it went.I lay awake in the little square inch of bed that my cats allow me to have, wishing that I had purchased this magical furniture piece. At some point I decided to lull myself to sleep with a quick flip though Amazon on my mobile phone. There it was - the exact scratcher I had in my cart earlier that day. And it was NOT $30. This was a sign! and so I bought it on the spot. When it arrived (in a rather large box) I assumed it would be ignored for the packaging was far more roomy. And yet, I was wrong, It helped that you are encouraged to sprinkle catnip on it - which was a call to all fury-tailed beasts in the vicinity to come running.Speaking of the catnip it came with - Um, maybe leave that in the packaging. I am not sure if received a bad batch, or my little critters are sensitive to various brands. Either way I had some issues with sick kitties shortly after and the vet seemed to think it was the new brand of catnip (the one included in the package). I thew it away and went with my typical brand. I have never looked back. This is my only reason for withholding a star (as the $200 vet bill to be told that the catnip made them sick was kind of a HUGE bummer!)I fully expected to have to replace this scratcher within a few weeks as I expected my kitties to rip through it like bathroom tissue - not the case. They actually use it as furniture as much as they use it to scratch. It is a favorite napping spot and a great object to push toys under.

I got this to encourage my de-clawed cat to scratch and knead, as it is important for de-clawed cats to continue to engage in the scratching/kneading motions to improve any pain or discomfort that might be present and to help long term with arthritis. The scratcher looks good (we got the green stripe), and seems a decent quality. The great price is what really drew me in.The big problem I have with this item is that it just isn't wide enough, and the length is a bit short too. But it's really that the bed is so narrow that only a tiny cat or kitten could actually use it to stretch out on comfortably. And my kitty isn't that big- she's a little overweight at 10.5 lbs, so really not that big.She can't fully lay out on it, though she does try. She scrunches up, dripping over the edges or lays across the middle, half of her body on the floor. We got an Infinity Lounger, which- though painfully more expensive- gives her ample space to completely stretch out, and she loves and uses it much more. She rarely uses this one, but does still like it sometimes. Also, I don't mind the catnip falling through the cardboard holes. Just put a mat underneath. A non-skid mat helps dually as it catches fallen nip and helps to keep the scratcher in place since it is so light and pushes around easily. So, if your kitty is small, or you just want a scratching pad- not a full out lounger- then this would be a good product for you and kitty. And the price is hard to beat. Still, it would be great if they would make this a bit bigger. Then it would be 5 stars.FOLLOW UP 06/08/2015:This thing has held up remarkably well, though my kitty doesn't have claws shredding it daily, so... But I felt I needed to follow up, and give another star, because she LOVES this bed! And now at 12.5 pounds (yes, a kitty diet is in order...), she still manages to settle herself comfortably on top despite the small size. And she has many options to choose from as to where to chill, but she digs this thing. She still loves her Infinity Lounger more, but she has been using this Catit scratcher nearly every day for the last (nearly) 2 years. So don't hesitate to get this for your little munchkin. At $4, it is certainly worth trying.

My cat had been scratching my furniture, and while I bought him a scratching post, he didn't seem to be that into it. I read some literature about cat behavior, and learned that when cats wake up from a nap, they like to stretch and scratch near where they were sleeping. I put one of these Catit Jungle Stripe Loungers in every room where my cat likes to sleep – and voila! – greatly minimized cat furniture scratching.Because my cat was already in the habit of scratching my furniture, adding these by themselves didn't reduce the scratching of other furniture entirely. I added panels of cat scratch deterrent tape onto the pieces of furniture that he most loved to scratch. Here's the scratch-deterrenttape from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075XLNMSG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I left the deterrent tape on for about six weeks, and my cat grew into the habit of scratching the cardboard instead. Then I removed the tape panels from my furniture, and my cat continued to prefer scratching the cardboard panels! My cat loves sitting on them after be scratches because of the curve on them! I love that they're reversible, for longer use. Because my cat likes the curve at either end, this model a little better to reverse, since it's curved on both sides: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074J6YJ2Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 However, since the Catit Jungle Stripe Lounge is less than half the cost of this isYoung Cat Scratch Lounge, it's still a better value – I honestly will probably keep buying them both, for the variety. Also, the advantage of the Catit Jungle Stripe Lounge is that since the bottom is flat, it's easy to attach to a flat vertical surface, so your cat can also scratch vertically. I taped one to a recycled box (see photo), and my cat loves the variety of surface planes he can scratch! They're really durable, I've had them for five months and haven't had to swap them yet. Highly recommend!

One of ours immediately fell in love with this flat floor scratcher, claiming it for his own within 10 seconds of my unwrapping and placing it on the floor. Sweet guy that he is, sharing with siblings is fine, too, though they're take it or leave it since we've also a sisal post and a cardboard incline scratcher, both sturdy wood frame and nicely expensive. And both of which he ignores, preferring a kitchen hook rug that I've let him go to town on as it's a decade old and seen better days. Still, it's a habit I'm not comfortable encouraging. His siblings are great with the aforementioned expensive sisal post and wood framed cardboard incline, so it worked out well that this inexpensive addition garners his interest. As every cat owner knows,it can be hit or miss - whether toys, food or utility feline products such as kitty scratching posts/scratchers. Unlike with dogs, which you can get to do anything with bacon, pig ears or a ball, cats have exacting standards, decidedly so, and you'll not make them like something. Cats are the ultimate product testers. Our now nearly 12-year-old trio + 1 feral that all came the same year as orphan kittens are as easy going as it gets, just a delight. They all still play and interact as if still goofy, curious 6 month olds. And yet, one will like a toy or kitty product that the others utterly ignore. Ergo, I keep buying and trying inexpensive products that might hit the spot with one or all.For $7, I'm happy my sweet, energetic and very smart but kinda oddball guy now loves this more than the kitchen rug. His more sedate siblings are fine with it being his and he's fine with the other scratchers being there's. Symmetry in the scratchers. I can see replacing this every 2 months or so. He likes it that much.

My cat loves to claw up the carpet mostly so I bought this in hopes of reducing that. Doesn't seem to care for the scratching post or anything with that rope-like material. He sat on the lounge the second I unpacked it... I had to move him in order to sprinkle the cat nip. Went crazy and rubbed all over the thing and he does that every time the cat nip is involved. For about 2 weeks, all he did was sit and nap on it. It was good that he liked it but he was still destroying the carpet.I started scratching at the scratcher in order to get him interested in doing the same and he started clawing at it himself. YES!! I kept doing this, cooed and gave treats immediately after he did it. By the third week,he started clawing at it himself, probably to hustle some treats. He scratches it all the time now, without needing treats. But I still give him some every now and then if I hear him going at it.My cat is more huge than fat and barely fits on the lounge when napping. It's quite hilarious because he just hangs off the edges. If you have a big cat, double check the dimensions... I just looked at the pictures. I bought another in hopes of gluing them together. I haven't glued them together yet but will update when I have.A few minor problems that I've had: The cardboard bits come off (as expected) and can actually get EVERYWHERE. They also get in his paws and he transports them all over the house like litter. I'm even brushing them off my bed and vacuuming regularly. I've started using a brush to sweep off the top of the lounge... I'm honestly shocked he uses it so often now. Also, the cat nip goes through the lounge, so placing newspaper or something underneath may be necessary.Hope this helps!

I had been searching for a Christmas present for my cat that he would actually use and enjoy, unlike all the other toys I've bought him over the years. I figured that since he loves to scratch our carpeting, this would be a good choice, and it turns out that I was right.I gave this to him on Christmas day, and he's been using it ever since. The little package of catnip included in the packing is what initially attracted him to the scratcher, but now he uses it for the pure joy of scratching. So far, this seems sturdier than the cardboard scratchers that you can buy in places like Walmart, but of course, you still get the little cardboard shreds everywhere.A big plus for me (and my cat)is the design of the scratcher. He loves the curvy edges, and usually sits on them while he scratches. Plus, it's never tipped over while in use, which is something I worried about because he's a pretty big boy at around 17-20 pounds. There are only 2 slight negatives about this. One is the green Jungle Stripe design on the sides. It's only been 2 weeks, but on one side the jungle stripe design fell off. This isn't a big deal for me; that's why I gave it 5 stars anyway. The other is that while the scratcher is a good length, it is pretty narrow. My cat can sit or lie on top of it comfortably while scratching, but it's not wide enough to lounge on. From the picture, I expected it to be a bit wider than it is, but since this hasn't affected my cat's use of the scratcher, it isn't much of an issue anyway.Overall, this is a great scratcher, and I would most likely buy this again when my cat destroys his!

(From Wifey) We have several cat scratchers in our house, different shapes and sizes. We have three cats, two occasionally scratched, but Milo (until recently) completely ignored the scratchers and proceeded to shred the back of our couch! As our scratchers were at "2 out of 3" relative success, I bought this particular one for a friend of mine and said ... "If Thimble doesn't take to it, give me it back and I can use it at ours". So using the great Amazon direct delivery service! I ordered one for her, for her Thimble-cat to try. Unfortunately, after a month of trying, Thimble didnt take to it, so I was given it back. I placed it on the middle landing of our three storey house. It is so interesting to see each of our cats walk down from the top stairs - they take a detour - walk over the scratcher, have a scratch, then detour back onto the carpet before going downstairs... or vice versa going upstairs. Even Milo now does this! Sometimes they even "lounge" on the scratcher too. To cut a long story short - I cannot guarantee your cat(s) will like a scratcher, but don't buy the fancy shaped (expensive) ones, stick to the straight ones and you may be lucky (and save your furnishings too). (I turn the scratcher over from time to time sprinkle with catnip). Also, if your cat doesn't take to it, move it about the house before you dispose of it, it may just be a location problem. Good luck!

This is, as someone else has commented, just a large piece of corrugated cardboard. A very thick piece, so the cats are scratching into the corrugations. It is very light, so easy to move round, but as the cats stand on it to scratch it will not move in use.I have found that my furry gang prefer these scratchers to any other. I have to vacuum them on a regular basis to remove the loose cardboard, and to get down to solid cardboard again to allow for more destruction. This type of scratcher is currently protecting my sofa, laying down its life in defence of my soft furnishings as the cats shred this in preference, as long as it is roughly in the same place. Another one is slowly meeting its death in my bedroom, protecting our bed legs, and one rather enticing piece of wallpaper is going to last somewhat longer due the presence of another one. My only comment is that the shape of this item means that you cannot turn it round when the one side has been worn away, the "legs" are just not as satisfying to scratch, I am told. Told? More like engraved messages on the sofa when I tried it.My little gang also enjoy sleeping on these, as the cardboard provides good insulation from the cold floor. So, if your furry hooligans are claw happy, it is well worth trying them with one of these. Not all cats will love them as much as mine do, but it is a fairly cheap item and worth a try.

If you're struggling with your cats tearing up your carpet or other valuable items such as your newly delivered furniture then you will be pleasantly surprised to know that even my very old, ridiculously stubborn, and sworn frenemy immediately stopped ripping up my carpets and destroying my chairs the moment I pulled back the plastic on this product. I have not seen or heard him scratch away at anything else for a solid month. I wish I had used these more often in his younger years; 14 years of cat scratching has been really rather expensive. The bad news is that while it works, I can't see it effectively working for more than a month or two.I suppose it depends on how often your cat needs to do his claw business but I purchased two scratchers, which were delivered on August 3rd, and they're both pretty worn. I can squeeze two more weeks out of it, surely, but all-in-all since I purchased two the math tells me that one wouldn't last the full month. Still, my archnemesis was able to damage $300 worth of furniture in a single week so having to repeat this purchase is of no consequence and is a steal in my opinion.UPDATE: It's now October 5th, a little over two months, and these are still holding strong. I'd guess at this point, I could get at least another month or two out of them. Don't let the worn look of the scratchers fool you!

I have a beautiful calico cat who would be more at home atop the rafters of the barn at the farm than here in my city apartment. But what can Miss Kali do but live this pampered city life since having been so spoiled, she would be ready prey at the barn for night critters like coyotes or the eagle who visits daytimes to thin our catfish population? This outdoor cat who must live indoors comes with claws and a desire to scratch no matter that I keep soft claws on her. I refuse to have her declawed so I have had to come up with solutions to keep her happy and me happy at the same time. Thus I ordered this scratcher. It is curved and just about her size when she curls up to nap, which she does on top of.I put it next to the loose-weave sofa she most likes to mutilate by catching her claws in it. I rubbed the scratcher with the catnip included and she was lost. She immediately started sniffing and scratching and then flopping upside down on it. The sofa is just not as interesting, thank goodness! This was an add-on item for a larger order and I am going to add-on another one for the next big order. Having a couple of these scattered around gives me hope for my sofa and other upholstered furniture!

I tried to interview my cats about this but they didn't really respond so I think I'll have to do it on observations alone. Leo the tabby has a good scratch of this after every meal and late at night when he knows it'll terrify us. Ian the posh long haired uses this as his chaise longue while he reads his financial times. Lola the kitten likes to scratch this so much she doesn't care if ian has finished his paper or not then violence ensues. She also likes to lounge on this too, but not as elegantly as ian. She usually lays on her back and licks her bumhole before taking a nap. Dexter, our fourth cat, a black and white cat, likes to scratch the carpet NEXT to this. He does however also chase his tail, hiss at his own shadow, run into the patio doors and get stuck on top of shelves. It makes a few flakes of cardboard but it's not a major catastrophe and is nowhere near as messy as having a fur shedding maine coon. My four fur babies haven't destroyed this and I will replace it when eventually it does get shabby. All in all it's worth every penny. Even the cats said "meow" when I asked them if it was value for money.

Kitty was clawing at our rug, despite having a scratching post in the room (though admittedly, it was off in the corner). I saw this scratcher while shopping for some other items, and for the price, decided it was worth a try. It's interesting that it comes with cat nip, as the cardboard is just honeycomb holes, so the cat nip falls right through. However, I used a bit of catnip to rub along the cardboard, thinking it would entice some interest, and that was literally all that was needed. Our cat is now using this scratcher daily (uh, actually throughout the day), to do the obvious, but she also likes to just sit on it (whaaat?), and it's small enough that we have it near our coffee table (so that it's close to the rug area she used to beat up)but it's not a trip hazard for the humans. If we'd only known sooner that this little item could have saved us hundreds of dollars in rug damage. I am now ordering more to put in other areas of our home. I honestly wouldn't have believed it had I not seen the overnight transformation in our kitty's behavior. So simple, yet genius!

I bought this out of curiosity, to see what they'd do, but I'm very glad that I did because it makes a huge difference switching from the thinner, smaller, flimsy scratchers (which wear out extremely quickly and aren't big enough for all of my cats) to this. Eight out of eleven cats are in love with it. They scratch it all the time and someone is usually hanging out on it. Sometimes they wait nearby for a vacancy and then go right for it as soon as it's free. A few of them are pretty big cats, long-legged and long-bodied, and they still fit surprisingly comfortably on it, even the biggest one. After a couple of weeks or so there's definitely visible wear (some pretty deep grooves worn in their favorite spots),but for the constancy of its use and the number of cats using it, I'm pleased by how well it's holding up and how heavy and solid it feels. Very substantial. I think it'll last longer than I thought it would before I have to replace it, which I will, because they've really incorporated it into their routines.

My cats BOTH loved this scratcher!! They took to it right away (with the catnip) and would scratch on it often. There are a couple of cons that mean that I won't be buying it again....however....if it were up to my cats, the house would be full of them!Cons:These slip like crazy on tile floors. My whole house is tile, and this would slip all over the place. One of the cats was really freaked out by this until he figured it out. My cats are well loved (i.e. fat!) and with the shape of the scratcher, they found it easiest to stand to the side and scratch with their front paws on it (versus standing on the actual scratcher and scratching). So this thing would move every time they scratched. The cardboard on these really shreds up and goes everywhere.I was constantly sweeping up cardboard pieces. Again, they loved it, but on my tile floors, the pieces of it were everywhere. So my cats would easily give this 5 stars. I would give it only 3 based on the cons above (hence the 4 star rating).

I purchased one of these for my four fur-baby household a few months back, not knowing how they'd feel. As soon as it was unwrapped, on the floor and even before spreading the catnip, my baby girl, Freya, hopped right on and claimed it. Tubby, her best buddy, attempted stealing it not too long after. They finally learned to share....after a month or two....heh. The other two babies didn't really bother with it. We do have quite a few other kitty toys and such, so it didn't bother me of the two's disinterest.Well, it's been several months since I gave the first one to them. Needless to say that it shows how much they love it. So, I purchased another. To my surprise, they were all excited to pounce, claw, rub and relax on this kitty scratcher sofa! Wishing I took photos of the moment, as it was adorable and hilarious! With the sale price of $7.99 I more than recommend this to all kitties who's humans who are willing to get it for them! I'll certainly be back for more in the future :-)
