I bought this scratching post as a distraction for our 3 month old kitten who has been literally climbing the walls!! She has discovered that she can climb our (new!) wallpaper to the ceiling on one corner... Not good. Anyway she loves her smaller scratching post, so a larger one that she can climb as well seemed like a good plan. It is! The ball is on elastic which adds to the fun. At full stretch she can just about reach the ball from from base, but obviously it's much more fun to climb the pole and reach it from the top! Hopefully this will become a firm favourite and provide the distraction she needs. The item itself seems very sturdy. There is a small amount of simple self-assembly required - screw pole into base, thread on middle disc and screw together with top pole - very simple and all parts were there. The pole itself is wider than I expected but I didn't take much notice of the dimensions given apart from the important part - the height. It is big enough to be useful for the cat but not as large as some of these cat gyms available which would take up a lot of space. The base seems large enough to keep it stable, she was jumping all over it and scratching at it well and it didn't wobble, but of course she is still very small, only a kitten. All in all a very reasonably priced but good quality item, which I hope will get lots of use!

I have had loads of cats in the past but this is the first time I even thought about getting a scratching post so I wasn't sure what to look for. After talking with friends who said don't bother 'cos the cats won't use them (to which my reply was on the lines of I'm still going to try it as I won't know for him otherwise), then looking at lots and reading reviews I decided to get this one.It was extremely simple and quick to put together (just turning bits together until they're tight, all by hand) but good size, strong construction so I expect it will last ages. He's an adult (9 years) cat that I had only had for a week, but he started to use it the third day after a little encouragement and since then he has a go a good few times a day.The 'carpet'in description is fleece, which he loves rubbing himself on. The middle 'stripe' is a big (hardboard?) washer between the 2 parts of the post and is also fleece covered, and there is a fleece covered top too. All the fleece is such a dark chocolate brown that it's almost black and does look nice, although I wasn't bothered about colour. He stretches out on the floor and reaches his paws up, so really he only uses the bottom half, but even doing that he reaches the middle, so I still think he probably wouldn't have taken to a short one (like most of them seem to be)

We got one of these for his Lordship about 2 1/2 years ago, and was impressed with its resilience, others cat posts we had bought had been ripped to shreds within a few months.Anyway, the old Kerbi post was finally starting to succumb to Mr Puss's claws, and so we decided to get another one. This duly arrived the next day and I unpacked it and screwed it together. I noticed that the ball on the top no longer had little jingly bits in it, and instead was just a round (cotton?) ball. Also, the string that attached the ball to the post was quite a bit shorter, and Mr Puss couldn't reach it as easily as he had before. Also, a more minor point, but the top of the post had changed too, was less 'bulked'out and no longer slightly over-hanged the top of the post.Yeah, these are all pretty small areas of complaint, but its a shame that they've obviously cheapened down the design but not the price. I'm hoping that the actual scratching part of the post itself has not changed in a way that isn't immediately visually obvious, and that it functions as well as the last one did.

I bought this for my cat who already has a floor to ceiling climbing tree as she loves a good scratch - and she loves it!The positives: it is quite tall and my cat is able to get off the ground and get her whole body on it. it allows her to fully stretch her back and get her scratch on. the ball at the top has really drawn her attention. the "ropes" around it are thick and I can see her getting a good amount of scratch time out of it. very quick and easy to assemble as you just screw three parts together with no need for screw drivers etc.The negatives: you couldn't have it free standing as it tips off really easily as the bottom isn't weighty enough. But if you put the corner under your sofa or table end,it will provide it with the sturdyness required for your cat to climb it without fair of it falling over. Also I know that it works for getting rid of the dead nail covers as within the first couple of days there were 3 of them on the base.I would happily buy again once she's clawed it out, but i imagine it's going to last a few months before that happens.

We have two cats, Wee Poo and Portly Poo. As you can probably guess, Wee is a little girl and Portly is a big lad. They both love the post and have no problems fully stretching out without it moving or tipping. I can't pass it without it one of the cats rushing to it to show me just how long and impressive they are!The sisal rope has stayed virtually pristine in the months we've had it, I can see it lasting a few years at this rate, unlike the last one we had. It's a good weight and eveything bolted together very solidly. It's difficult to get too worked up about a cat post but it was easy to assemble and does the job perfectly, I'd have no hesitation buying another or maybe replacing the sisal when it wears out. It's well balanced and well made, for the money I'd highly recommend it.

This has literally saved my house from being ripped to shreds! I have an adult female cat and a young male cat. The male has recently taken to ripping my brand new wallpaper off in each room of my house a house we've spent a fortune on! I bought this and some catnip spray and he's all over it and hasn't scratched anywhere else since! Another bonus is my female cat hasn't scratched the sofa since either although that wasn't as much as an issue. Unfortunately the ball lasted all of a day before the gruesome twosome pulled it off but I'm sure I can stick it back on (when I find it!) highly recommend this post as we all tend to stick with the small ones made for kittens and they like to scratchat full stretch so most cats don't bother with them for long.

I have two of these scratching posts, My two cats love their posts & have various different ones dotted around the house. They both love to have a good stretch whilst scratching & these are tall enough for them to do that ( average sized cats I think). They also drag themselves up the posts & perch on top of them. One is ripped to shreds so will need to be replaced soon & I'll be buying the same again. The only negative I have found is the posts topple in use, not an issue for us as I have them wedged under each end of my sofa as they used to like to scratch that! No new scratches have appeared since we got these thankfully. If your after a taller than average post these are perfect & I think they last well considering the abuse mine give them.

This is a great scratching post and is well-built.You might think that since the post is tall, it would be easy to pull over but this is not the case. Even a large cat can stretch to its full height for a really good scratch and in this position, all the force is downwards and the post will not topple. With a short post, a cat has to pull sideways to exert some effort and any such post is likely to be pulled over. With his old post, my cat had to lie down to have a good workout but now he can reach up and have a really good stretch. Do I get any thanks? No, but the cat loves it and sometimes perches on top to play with the ball, which is more than I can ever hope to do.Full marks and well done,Kerbl. Purrs and head-rubbing all round.

Love it!My cats loved it as soon as I put it out for them.My older larger Tomcat likes it because he can get a full stretch to scratch were as my small girl cat likes to use it also she prefers to sit on the top and look on the mantlepiece for the packet of treats stashed there! lolThey both still have a little scrat on the living room carpet but it's only for a few seconds at worst. This was my first purchase of this item (2, June 2016) and I'm about to purchase my second as they have both nearly destroyed this one, the sisal is now starting to moult all over the floor.I also trim my cat's claws so this shows you how long a well-used tree will last,id say with lots of use daily it will last you/them about 1yr and 6months.

We have quite a big cag (5kg), so I was worried about the size/stability.At almost full stretch he can reach the top. There's no wobble at all, even while he's savaging the top section! The rope type cover seems pretty sturdy, and would take some serious force to remove.I doubt that the fluffy ball will last long though, as the elastic is fairly thin. It's just an addition though, so no big deal if it snaps. One piece of advice, get some catnip spray. It got him instantly interested in the post. Now he won't leave it alone, and even sits on the base while he's recovering for round two!To be honest, with the price, once he's ripped this to shreds,I'll just but the same item again.Easily a 5 star purchase.

Nice and sturdy. My giant kitty has not been able to knock it over which is great because he can stretch as much as he wants. My little kitten loves jumping on it and biting the little toy whilst hanging onto the side, which again is due to the post being super strong and stable. One downside is the little divider between the posts. I've noticed my cat not using it and instead having to stop scratching all the way up or down because of the little divider. Without it my cat could use the entire post a lot easier and not have to stop to avoid it.Overall though, I think it's a very good scratching post as it provides a good height and a nice, sturdy post to play and pounce on without tipping it over.

Bought obviously as we have a cat. The previous one we had last a good few years (different brand and taller) but the cat had finally made a mess of the top with meant there was strands all over the floor. Bought this as it was the tallest I could see and our cat likes to stretch. So far happy with purchase seems to be doing its job. Need to push rope upwards every so often as it moves down were cat it scratching. This product would get rave reviews from me if the manufacturer had done one simple thing; made the posts inter-changeable so when the top was ruined you could swap them around and the product would last longer.Should hopefully still be able to do this but it will require some DIY

We adopted two LARGE four year old cats, larger than we expected actually! We already had a smaller scratching post but were advised by the man at the rescue centre to get them a larger one and I'm glad we did. They both enjoy scratching it and it has so far held up very well to the abuse it gets. One of them occasionally climbs up it, which I was convinced was going to knock it over but even with 6kg of moggy hanging off the side of it there was barely a wobble. The rattly ball on the side gets a little bit of use, but the scratch post itself is great.Especially for bigger cats, but even for smaller ones, if you have room get one of about this size. Your sofas will thank you for it.

This is the second time we’ve bought this product as it’s a good size and sturdy enough for our two cats to have a good scratch on (the smaller of them also likes to sit on top of it!).The ball on the string obviously doesn’t last long once a cat decides to play with it but overall we’re happy with quality of the product for the price. However, this is the second time we’ve bought it because the previous one eventually (after one year) succumbed to the scratching and began to malt worse than the cats! (see image after one year of use by two cats)Overall I would recommend this as it is well made and fairly durable, but as with all things cat-related, it won’t last forever!

I recently discovered that my cat prefers sisal vertical scratching posts -- I'd had carpeted ones before but she preferred my couch -- and she's a big cat so I needed a sturdy, large sized one. This one is perfect. She's using it and ignoring the couch, and even plays with the ball at the top though she's not super playful in general. The whole point is she's supposed to shred this instead of my furniture, so I'll order another as backup for when it inevitably gets shredded to death. I'm so glad I found something she'll use and that is sturdy and big enough to let her stretch, claw, and attack without it falling over or falling apart.
