This cat tree is large to say the least.I bought this tree for my 9 month old Maine Coon and thought it would make an excellent present for him at Christmas. Good plan I hear people cry, well yes until it arrived, the box is huge and living in an apartment caused the first problem. Where do I store the box?.I realized that I did not have enough room to do so and promptly set about building the tree. No real hassles doing that and when completed the tree looks very sturdy.Einnie took to it immediately charging up the ladder to the second level and after a bit of thinking, he scrambled to the third level and that's when I noticed a design problem. At this point in time Einnie weighs in at a meagre 14pounds of solid muscle and the third tier of the tree sways when he bounces up to it.With another 8-14 pounds of weight gain to be expected over the next 8 months somehow I do not expect this to last. The tree itself is well made and robust, but the building support point for the third tier is just a single extended bolt and this is not suitable for the large breeds of cat.I would whole heartily recommend this tree for normal size cats. Two minor niggles, as the previous reviewer has pointed out the hammock is not the best and secondly the ball needs to be attached better.I have came back to this review, just over a year after purchasing the tree and its still going strong.Einnie now weighs in at 19pounds of muscle and is still bouncing around his tree. While I was not sure if the tree could hold up to a Maine Coon bouncing about on it, I am happy to be proved wrong. The tree is still in great condition, bar for the 2 things I mentioned earlier, ie. the ball has gone and the hammock was always useless and is now removed. One other thing that is not used now is the cat boxes as they are a bit too small for a cat of his size and he does sprawl over the edges when on the platforms. (not too badly but we are lucky as his tree is beside a free standing bookcase and he likes to lie on top of that as well).A great purchase and well worth the money .

It's relatively easy to put together even by just one person and a sturdy, fur and sisal covered construction once it's finished. The caves/sleeping pods provide places for cats to hide from one another and 'catch' a passing tail whilst the ladders aid progress to the higher levels, as well as (in our case) providing suspected training in how to climb the ladder to obtain access to the loft. It is an imposing presence in even a larger room, which the cold dimensions of the piece don't fully convey. The hammock that hangs at the base was ultimately never used. I watched one of the cats investigate and try to jump aboard but it twisted and tipped her out and she never ventured back. The platforms got the most use as that allowed all of the cats to reach heights in the house I'd probably rather they had not discovered, such as the top of the adjacent wardrobe (a refuge for an older cat who decided to sleep there to avoid kittens interrupting her sleep). It was much used when our cats were kittens but they lost interest on the whole as soon as they were introduced to the wonders of the great outdoors. It is a large piece of furniture to have assembled and not used so ours was mothballed when it was clear it was no longer loved.
