My facial hair in the past tended to swap between stubbly from not shaving for a couple of days and unkempt beard, left to grow until it gets too itchy/warm and I shave it all off. The trimmer on my old Philishave rotary shaver allowed me to attempt a crude job at a neat beard, but frankly it was too much hassle and now catches a bit as it has lost sharpness. So, I jumped at the chance to try a proper beard trimmer.Braun offered a free BT5050 trimmer to try out and keep. Easy to open, it comprises:- The unit proper, with a single 32mm wide trimmer, charging light, integral battery, power switch and connector for the power supply/charger.- An AC adapter/charging unit using shaver plug,- A"precision comb" attachment with a fancy wheel and lock to set beard length between 1mm and 10mm in 0.5mm increments.- A "hair comb" attachment for hair cutting between 10mm and 20mm in 2mm increments.- A brush and oil for cleaning the equipment, and a drawstring pouch to keep everything in.Operation is as follows:1. The first time, plug charger in and charge for about 8 hours. The light will indicate when charging is complete. Every few weeks, depending on how often you use it, you'll need to recharge for 4-8 hours - the manual says around 40 minutes of continuous operation.2. Attach the hair/beard attachment.3. For beards, run against the grain on stretched skin for about 3-5 minutes, i.e. up your neck, chin, face and under your nose, finishing each area when it stops making a cutting sound. If you have a long beard to cut, start with a longer setting then gradually get shorter. Blow on the equipment from time to time to get hairs out of the way.4. Follow the cleaning routine - this is tedious and I expect not everyone does this all every time, but: remove the attachment, open up the mechanism behind the trimmer, blow and brush all the hairs out, rinse under water, leave to dry, then re-oil the blade and mechanism. The nicest thing is that this all just works: it doesn't leave your face sore, as you're not going close to the skin nor tugging as the blade is in sharp condition; and you don't have to think about being precise, since the attachment already makes sure of the right length. If you've used a beard trimmer regularly before you'll probably find this old hat, but if you haven't, you'll be happy!I have only used it a few weeks so can't speak on longevity, but the warranty is two years. The only criticism I have so far is that the battery is not user-replaceable, so it's important to keep it in good condition (don't leave to discharge, cycle every 6 months).

I recently had an opportunity to try one of these out for free in exchange for an unbiased review, and having previously had two Philips beard trimmers (one QT4090 with turbo vac to collect hair and more recently, when my QT4090 died, a QT4013 without) I jumped at the chance to give something new a try.The Braun BT5010 sits somewhere between the two in terms of capability and function, and well above both on price (it is currently £25 on Amazon, £5 cheaper than the cheaper Philips and significantly cheaper than the new turbo vac model). The unit seems solid and well made and it cuts hairs mercilessly. With my QT4013 it will cut but the hairs have to be standing up in a certain way or it misses them. The Braun doesn't have that problem- it cuts through them all, regardless of whether the hairs start out flat on your face or pointing outwards. It also doesn't spray the cut hairs out across the room, unlike the QT4013. It's not as tidy as the Philips models with the turbo vac but it's a lot cheaper as it doesn't have that functionality, so I wouldn't expect it to be.My only real issue with the unit comes to the fore when using it as a body hair trimmer (I.e. Not for the hair on your face). The comb attachment which controls the hair length does not do the job of a guard for the blade, so the teeth of the blade can nick your skin, even if you're being careful. From what I've seen the product markets itself as a facial hair trimmer, rather than a body trimmer, but nowadays purchasers will expect products like this to do both. And while this trimmer excels for the hair on your face, I wouldn't trust it again to trim anywhere else

My girlfriend bought me this for my birthday in our second year of uni, as I was incredibly lazy when it came to shaving. It was widely used that year, including for cutting my hair, and was very good, I would recommend. Where our story gets interesting though is the summer of that year, when I was living in temporary accommodation to do a summer research project. I continued to use my shaver for this, and had the charger plugged in in my room, although it was not used much as the shaver seemed to retain charge very well. Summer came to an end, and I moved into my house for third year, came to unpacking and came to the terrible realisation that I had forgotten the charger, left it abandoned in a random room on campus. I was obviously too awkward to try and get it back, so I decided to keep using it until it died and then buy a new charger. That was September 2017. This morning my shaver ran out of battery. I must now buy a new charger. There have been points in the last year when I have considered contacting some sort of authority to tell them about the mysterious new energy source I have discovered. Was the shaver powered by my hair? Was it drawing energy from the air? I suppose I will never know now.Anyway, 10/10 would recommend solving world energy crisis again.

Having grown a (for me) super long beard, I was slightly nervous about my first trim with this device. I do recommend reading the instructions as, although very straightforward, do give some very useful tips on how to get the most out of this quality trimmer. There was already some juice in the unit but after three hours charging I was in business. There are two different attachments - one short, one long - which each allow a range of different lengths. You dial the length you want and lock it in place with a small button to prevent unexpected changes in length mid-cut! With the length of my beard being what it was, I used the longest attachment and the longest setting on it. In use the trimmer is fairly quiet, and gives a smooth and comfortable operation. Results were impressive, with an even and consistent length across the whole beard.A small tube of oil is provided to lubricate the blades. There is also a brush for removing hair from inside the clipper mechanism - not used either as yet but good to know they're there. A drawstring storage bag is also included. This is a quality item, highly recommended for keeping on top of hirsuteness.

This comes part charged so you can use it immediately. Simple on/off button. Two attachments are provided: one does anything from 1mm up to wherever stubble length you want, the other would do longer beards. The instructions aren't that clear and I didn't bother much with them beyond the basics. The usual vague diagrams with words on separate pages. Small oil bottle, basic storage bag, and cleaning brush supplied. Also supplied with mains charger lead, although you'll need to provide your own 2-pin wall socket adapter.I used it to create some designer stubble and was quite satisfied with the result. Recommended.Another reviewer s unhappy about what was and wasn't included and gave this product what I consider to be an unfair score. This product contains everything that is on the retail box, irrespective of what is or isn't described on this Amazon product page. To be clear, this model doesn't include an attachment to finely sculpt beards in the style of George Michael... I notice one image on this page does show a smaller, additional precision trimmer, but that isn't included. It would appear to be an Amazon product page error.

*** I received this product for free on the understanding I provide a fair and honest review ***Firstly let me say I have reviewed around 15 beard trimmers so far and they have ranged from the very expensive right down to the very cheap. They all seem to trim in the same fashion and the only real difference seems to be their heft and their materials but the actual job of trimming my beard is always the same ....So the only real thing to distinguish them is their added features. They all have a brush (like this one), most have a bag, most have a bottle of oil, and most are rechargeable. The odd thing is most now have a sliding gradient from 1 to 15 mm. This however has a much larger range of trimming. This goes from 1-20mm but it uses a 2 comb system with the smaller comb having a graduation dial and the larger comb dealing with a more coarse approach. However for all it's worth the beard trimmer I always come back to and serves me the best is my Phillips QT4050. When that dies I'll pay for another one of those.

Although not the most expensive in the range, this beard trimmer comes with a pouch for keeping the main instrument in, together with the other bits and bobs that come with it.It has a rotary dial to trim your sideburns/beard/moustache all to the same length of between 1mm - 10mm.There is also A longer comb that covers up to 20mm.And that's it really - and what more would you need? It allows you to keep control of your designer stubble - if that is your style - but also allows you to tame a longer beard of almost an inch in length.Braun are a German firm who make well designed, well-built items for personal grooming, and they generally have longevity. This is another excellent product, and as I have grey hair and a grey beard, I need to be careful that I don't end up looking like the rather scruffy Jeremy Corbyn! I'm grateful to this trimmer for helping me achieve that.

I was pleasantly surprised with this product, i usually go the barbers twice a week for a beard shaping and a head shave.at the unpleasant cost of 20 quid a pop. this has already paid for its self in a week, and i feel like it does just as good of a job in terms of length management, i am able to blend and grade my beard, something i have not been able to do with other trimmers as easily, because its a single attachment that is adjustable its so simple to use.I have taken this with me while i travelled and the battery makes it very easy to clean yourself up for that important meeting when you land at the airport, or even on the plane. even if it only lasts 6 months, id buy another.

I want to really like this bread trim as I like the design of it and I like how it has all of the able settings on the dial so you don't have to keep changing the attachements. Ones thing i find I don't like is that it seems very underpowered compared to my Phillips beard trimmer it's like half the power of it. It picks up the hair pretty well when using the trimmer and it charges in around an hour and that will last about an hour of use so its not too bad.Comes in a nice simple carry bag and charger supplied.I would still recommend this as it is a decent trimmer and better than most on the market but I just wouldn't say its the best out there.

Got this to replace my old Remington MB320C, which was initially a good trimmer, but battery life went pretty quickly and only held its charge for a couple of minutes. This Braun model seems sturdy, reliable and the big plus is that you can set lengths up to 20mm, essential for the more hirsute gentleman. The swappable guards are robust and can be set accurately to 0.5mm increments. The only down side so far is that it only comes with a 2 pin shaver plug. I don't have a shaver socket in my house so I now have to buy an adaptor.

You do need to be sure to clean internally (the top flips open) regularly, and oil as directed in the instructions. But apart from that they just work great. Battery life is still good after 2 years for 2 or 3 full weekly trims on one charge (helped by that regularly oiling). I use the small comb, so can't comment on the large one. The trim length adjustment, with its lock, works well for fine-tuning things. You can also use it without a comb for fine trimming work.

My husband hates shaving and loves the stubble look. I hate the scruffiness of it all. This has proved to be a good compromise. Charges quickly and holds charge well. Using every other day and only needed charged again after 10 days. Can be rinsed under the tap to keep it clean. Has plenty of choice for length of stubble or beard. Great wee extras included-lubricating oil and brush to clean. Incredibly easy to use.

Great beard trimmer that is easy to use and feels really well built.PROS:Simple setup and easy to use.Battery lasts for a while. and standby time lasts weeks.0.5mm adjustments on the guard make it easy to finely tune that hairline.Solid construction. The matte finish feels great in hand.CONS: would really have liked a cradle for charging or storage but cannot fault it for the price.

I got this to replace a cheap (less than £10) Babyliss trimmer which wasn't great. This trimmer has many more length settings (including half grades) and gives a great, even shave. The only downside I've found so far is that the blades can get quite hot, I trim my mustache without a guard and the heat burnt my top lip a little. Not unbearable but not great.

Received the item very quick.Had to buy a plug to use for uk purposes. Once I got my charger then i was good to go.Very quick shave . Trimmed very well and also shaped the beard nicely. Was hard to trim the jaw line.Would recommend if you have time to alter your beard and experiment. Not just for your everyday shave!
