By my niece:Upon arriving the first thing I noticed was how massively over packaged this coat was. It came in a huge box with reams and reams of scrunched paper. You could definitely roll it up into a small size amazon box. Even if they wanted to make sure the product wasn’t squashed it could have definitely fitted into a smaller box and I’m not certain why the scrunched paper padding was necessary for a soft item like a coat. Again a smaller box would not have needed the void filling with paper.I immediately knew I liked the look of this coat when I got it out. It’s got a nice fitted shape and the side panels and under panels of the arms are fabric rather than feather which I think contributed to how fantastically it fit and looked.I get a lot of compliments on this coat which can never be a bad thing alone!I would say the style is ‘fitted’ but wouldn’t particularly say that it comes up small, however if you’re the sort of person that likes to wear several layers underneath or doesn’t like the fitted styles than I can see why a size larger may be better for you. Honestly I didn’t need to layer up as it kept me toasty, I only had a t-shirt and a thin sweat-wicking zipneck overlayer underneath and this kept me warm whilst out walking in the cold of January and Feb.I was very happy with the hood as my one gripe with other coats is how easy the hoods fall down and especially with the slightest breeze, but this one did not! I loved this!I am impressive with the down certification too which is certainly something I look out for on feather and down filled products in the future so big thumbs up for ethical sourcing.I was sceptical over how water resistant this coat would be, especially because of the fabric panels, however again I was impressed. Naturally I avoided the absolute torrential downpours the UK has had in the past few months but I have certainly had to venture out during significant rain. I have been kept dry underneath my coat and the coat did dry quickly.I did notice a few of the feathers escaping by poking through the fabric but nothing I’d say to be majorly concerned about and nothing more than I think you’d expect if you’ve had similar down filled products before. The only improvement I would suggest would be to have a small carrying bag for it. I’ve seen other lightweight similar jackets that either have one attached or in addition that allows the coat to be rolled and stored for travel when not being worn. It’s very lightweight and extremely comfy. As much as I love this coat I’m not sure how much I’d willingly pay the price tag. I wouldn’t say it’s unreasonable in its place on the market, I’ve just never purchased a coat as expensive, so that’s the basis of my view on the price.

This is a very nice coat from Berghaus. The style, colour and quality of the coat is all first class, however the sizing is a little on the small size so you may need to order a size up from your regular size. The coat itself is a bit more lightweight than I was expecting, and its clearly a coat for spring / autumn rather than winter. However, this being said it packs in to rucksacks with ease and is really good to wear as a top layer. Its clearly to be used a top layer to other layers being worn and is in no way a thick all weather winter coat. The coat itself uses the hydro down technology to help keep the coat dry in heavy showers, but it does not keep you dry in a persistent downpour,as we found out when testing the coat . The coat also has the reflective stretch tech feature which works really well in the evenings and at night, as light catches the coat and makes you very visible. This feature really does add an element of safety to the coat as any traffic will spot you with ease should you be ealking along / alongsife a road. The colour and design of the coat is also very modern and stylish and the mulberry does really stand out and look superb when worn, The coat design is also curious as it is a mixture of a thin "puffa" design on the front and back parts of the jacket (along with the arms(, which is broken up by stretchy "weave effect" side panels running under the arms of the coat to the ends. This does add an element of stretch to the coat and a sense of comfort, but despite ordering a size 14, we found the coat was far smaller both in terms of length and width across the shoulders in comparison to other Berghaus coats in the same size. As result of this small sizing and despite me getting this for my wife, my Niece who is a size 10 actually ended up having this coat. While its a little baggy on her, its certainly not swamping her and as such I would say this coat is best suited for a size 12, even though the label says size 14.Overall this coat is really, really good. Its warm, it stays dry in heavy showers, it packs away well, and the reflective aspect of the coat, combined with the colour really does make this look superb when worn. My only issue was with the sizing, and its only for that reason why I could not give this a full 5 stars. Apart from that I would most certainly recommend this coat. Its superb!

This is a very comfortable, very lightweight jacket. The colour is as described. There are two zipped pockets which have a generous depth, but no inner pocket and no phone pocket, I would have liked at least one additional pocket. The hood is the same thickness as the jacket, which is pleasing as so many hoods are just a single thickness and useless in the wind, etc. The stretch side panels give lots of freedom of movement, making the jacket comfortable when climbing over stiles and other obstacles. The sleeves are a bit too long for me, but I am not tall and so they should be an ideal length for a taller person. The extra length is no problem if you are short, as the soft cuff is easy to just turn under if you need to.The overall length is excellent. The sleeve width is just adequate at the underarm/upper arm point, but should fit most people unless you have particularly large upper arms. This jacket fits me perfectly on the body, I usually vary between a 12 and a 14 depending on style and brand, and I do not like very tight-fitting jackets. If you like close-fitting jackets, go for your usual size, if you like a more generous fit, try a size up. The jacket is not bulky, but it is warm and ideal for spring, summer and autumn weather. It folds up into a really small space so is easy to pack into a rucksack, etc. I feel the cold so it is not sufficiently warm for me in winter when the outdoor temperatures are below 10 degrees. The jacket feels really well made with good quality zip and materials. My husband has several Berghaus items and they have all given good service and continue to do so, so I have no problems recommending this jacket, just reduced one star from the total as i think it needs an additional pocket.

Personally I think the jacket is better in the flesh than the photographs provided. I had the Beet Red which is more a maroon colour but as these images are already provided, I thought I would show a image of the interior of the jacket which is a beautiful shade of red. I have had this brand several times over the years and have never had any issues...in fact they have lasted me very well, in particular their body warmers. This jacket is extremely light weight and as usual very well made with quality materials. I guess can be used alone or as it is thin, it could be a layer under another jacket without being cumbersome or uncomfortable. The sizes in this particular jacket I would say come up smaller than some...I had no choice in the size but as some reviewers are saying they come up small, I had it for my daughter who is smaller than me. As people see sizing differently, I thought I would give actual measurements of this size 12 so you can decide for yourself if it would be correct size for you. Inside arm...22 inches. Chest (under arm to underarm) 19 inches (obviously 38 inch chest). Waist 17 (34 all round) and finally the length is 26 inches from shoulder to hem. Personally the length of a jacket is important to me as I hate short jackets. this is a lovely length. I guess it is personal taste as of course some people like close fitting jackets and others loose but I do think this is meant to be a slimline jacket. Personally I would go a size bigger but from the measurements I have provided, you can decide from there at least for the size 12. Definitely recommended.

Berghaus women's stretch reflect Down jacket : Colour dark greyI absolutely love this jacket I received this in a size 14 and is a perfect fit. The only downside is that this is a fitted styled jacket. The shape of the jacket gives that nice contoured look of your silhouette if that makes sense. It gives a slimming and flattering look. I have to just mention that this is a shorter length jacket falling just below the hips. This jacket is made of excellent quality. It has a hood and 2 zipped side pockets. It has 2 side panels to give it a stretch and panels underneath the cuffed sleeves. It's fabric is 100% polyamide and the panels are 95% polyester and 5% Elastane.Insulation is 80% duck down and 20% duck feathers. This jacket is filled with ethically sourced hydrodown 600 powered by Nikwax. This jacket will keep you warm even in wet conditions. The ultra light reflect technology will use your body heat and will direct that heat back to your core keeping you 20 percent warmer. This jacket is showerproof and I did wear this jacket on a blustery wet day and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. The hood is handy and I did feel well protected and it's a warm snug fit. It also did dry down quickly afterwards.Overall excellent quality jacket. I love that it's lightweight perfect to throw into a rucksack if you are out and about. The stretch panels make it easier for movement especially if you are cycling or hiking. The only thing you got to remember as this is a fitted jacket you might need to size up if you intend to wear bulky jumpers etc. 5 stars

My wife recently tried on another couple of Berghaus jackets. One was hugely undersized, the other was just right, and from everything I've read it seems that each different style of Berghaus coat suffers from the same problem - you don't know whether it's going to fit until you try it on.If there was such a thing my wife would probably be verging on a size 13, and this jacket was supplied to her in a 14. It fits perfectly. When it's zipped up it looks like it may in fact be too tight, but she tells me that it feels extremely comfortable, most likely due to the stretchy side panels. She's 5' 4" tall and the jacket comes down just below her hips. The jacket is very lightweight, and when it comes out of the bag it looks a lot flatter than it will do once you've given it a bit of a shake and worn it. It doesn't turn out like a Puffa jacket but it does look better than it did originally. My wife has worn it in cool weather and although it kept her warm most of the time she did feel that it let the cold wind through. It doesn't seem like something which would be suitable for a harsh Winter, more like a Spring jacket. The only other point to mention is the appearance of the material. We were expecting it to be a lot shinier than it actually is, where in reality it's almost got a matte finish. Luckily, my wife prefers it like this. She's thrilled to bits with it and would definitely recommend it, but you do need to get a size up from your usual just to be on the safe side.

This is a well-made jacket and the colour is beautiful. It’s a very particular kind of jacket, though, and knowing the detail of how it’s designed is important. First, it is a very snug fit – chosen in my usual size, it is comfortable over a tshirt but not over a bulkier jumper. This means it has a very nice, sleek silhouette and the colour is beautiful. The outer fabric is showerproof rather than waterproof, so the hood is more for heat retention than for keeping your head dry. In our rather damp climate, while this would make a nice warm inner layer, you would probably want a waterproof shell as an outer layer if you were hiking, climbing or running. The Hydrodown insulated material doesn’t go all over the jacket – the part of the sleeves on the inside of the arm is made of stretch fleece instead. This makes the jacket less bulky but will make it slightly less warm. It’s a reasonable length, just a little longer than hip length on me, and the sleeves come right down past my wrists. The close fit and the stretch make it easy to move in.All in all, this is a very well made, stylish jacket to add warmth without bulk. It’s not going to replace a full-on winter coat in our coldest weather but for keeping out the chill in less challenging temperatures, or worn as the base layer under a water- and wind-proof outer layer, this would be a useful addition to your coat collection.

This coat is toastie! It offers loads of protection from the icy wind. We live on the coast, and when the wind blows off the sea it is freezing but this coat really keeps you warm. The design is well thought out. The cuffs are elasticated and prevents the wind from going up there. The zip has a flap beneath it to prevent wind from getting through. And another flap over the top of the zipper to prevent the zip from rubbing your chim. The linings of the pockets are super soft and easily fit a plus sized smart phone. The sizing is completely off though. We got a size 14. My wife is normally a ten to twelve. This coat fits her really well and even has a bit of extra room.In terms of waterproofing,it is not a waterproof coat. I would say it is storm resistant. This coat is not designed for being out all day in the rain. It handles a short downpour well. But the way it fits allows for you to wear it with a pac a mac over. So instead of hiking wearing a waterproof coat and getting sweaty for it, wear this and bring a pac a mac. Pop it on if it rains. It means that the hiking will be comfortable as you are warm but the coat is breathable. This coat packs down ultra small. It's a shame it doesn't come with a sack provided.

I love this jacket it’s manufactured to a very high standard as to be expected from Berghaus, its lightweight and feels super comfy, the down fill doesn’t puff up to much and it’s a snug fit.It has a 600 fill down and it’s super warm, you get a few feathers poking out here and there but that’s to be expected now and again from a down, I really like the stretchy side panels on the waist and the side of the arms they work well, both for the fit and the ventilation. The jacket is okay for a shower and it still keeps you warm when it’s a bit damp, it doesn’t take long to dry out either, it’s also very packable and light enough to stick in the backpack.Inside Berghaus have reflect technology that works well reflecting body heat back from the material, this surprised me how much of a difference this actually makes compared to my other downs for a 600 fill. The hidden side zips really are hidden and you can’t see them once done up, a really neat feature. The hood is a nice comfy fit, it’s a one size hood with no adjustment, also no adjustments around the waist either.Branding to the chest and the back on the hood.Overall I’m very happy with the jacket, thank you.

This is a review of the Berghaus Tahitian Tide, size 12 ladies jacket. This was trialed by the ‘lady of the house’ as she is a size 12 - I am not! She found it very comfortable to wear, not too heavy fabric-wise with a nice fleece lining, sensible sized pockets without being too ‘over the top’ and rather well put together as in no loose threads etc. could be found which points to good quality control. For something so lightweight, she was pleasantly surprised to find it quite warm, weight for weight, as compared to other jackets by other makers in her wardrobe that are basically of a heavier material but nowhere as warm as this, although the built-in hood appears to be ‘lightweight’,that too works very well and once again, keeps the head warm. Interestingly or rather reassuringly, and for the price (reviewed December 2018) there is a lifetime guarantee with it so gives the impression that the makers do have a lot of faith in this product but then this is a Berghaus brand after all. Very impressed with the garment overall with nothing to really find fault or complain about as its well designed and made. 5 Stars

This is a very nice and light down-filled jacket. It’s quite thin, and folds down to a very neat and compact size to go into a bag. The jacket isn’t entirely down filled, there are panels in the sides and on the undersides of the sleeves which are made from a slightly shiny fabric that looks a bit like tracksuit fabric on the outside, and has a very fine, microfibre fleece lining on the inside. This fleece-lined fabric is not waterproof. It makes the overall fit of the jacket neater, and whilst the sections are on the underside of the arms and on the parts of the body protected by the arms, the use of this material does reduce the overall weather protection offered by this garment. The jacket has a good quality metal zip fastening, with a covered top section, and the pockets are fastened with concealed metal zips. The two pockets on the outside of the jacket are the only two, there are no pockets in the lining. The hood is lightly elasticated inside a binding tape edge trim, to help keep it close to the face in wear. The fit is on the snug side, with little room for layering underneath.

Absolutely gorgeous, a beautiful jacket, but...a caution. This isn’t a size 14, and it isn’t definitely isn’t large. If you want to layer underneath this, do go a size up. Thanks to the existing reviewers who pointed this out. They are right. This is a very small 14, and not even that large a 12.This is slimming and flattering, close-fitting, but, thankfully, not too short. At 5’ 8’’ (1.72m) it hits at skimming the tops of the thighs. Its most impressive feature is its warmth. This is incredibly lightweight for the amount of warmth it gives. Do believe the hype. It’s genuinely a true winter jacket, not one to go skiing in perhaps, but a lovely warm toasty top layer, that won’t leave you looking twice your size. The stretch in the fabric makes it suitable for active movement. You could cycle in this without difficulties, (depending on your height) no need for a special cycling jacket.Warm, stretchy, comfortable, practical and very stylish.Just on the small side with regard to sizing.

Fits as expected, and fits well. This lightweight jacket is waterproof and extremely warm. My wife loves this! I like it because it fits her figure and doesn't look like an anorak, but ultimately this is a really well made product, that keeps you warm and dry with a bit of good design in its looks too!The two discreet zipped pockets allow you to carry essentials with you without them being noticed and the way the hood fits is superb - it doesn't cover up your face, but covers the top of the head very effectively and doesn't blow down in a wind. When you look at this jacket its outstanding features are all about its cut or its design rather than the material used, which all goes to prove the old adage "when you are paying for design make sure you are paying for good design". The idea of an established designer name like Berghaus puts me off, but actually they have designed this so well I can do nothing but recommend it. A truly excellent product - get it before it has gone!

My wife was on the lookout for a lightweight but warm winter jacket and we are big fans of down coats as they are invariably light and easily packable while being warm. The big draw with this coat was the water repellant treatment for the down. Down has a tendency to clog and clump when it is wet but this has been treated with Nikwax which keeps the feather loft when the rain comes down. One are of comment is the patches on the side of the coat where there is a stretch fabric panel. My wife did wonder if it was windproof at this point. Up to now the reports have been positive though.Sizing is a common comment on this coat and we got one that is listed as Large, the sizing chart suggests this would be a 12 or 14.My wife is a definite 12 and this is a good fit for her. It might be a bit tight on someone of a size 14.Overall then, this is warm, light and the down is water resistant. It does what it says on the tin, just be careful about the sizing.

This jacket looks really good and is very light.Pros-Extremely warm for its thin size, best with only a t-shirt or thin mid layer underneathLight weight and unrestricting around the shouldersWell fitting, good shapeComfortable with fleece lining and elasticated sides which give it the fitted feel and shape.Waterproof in light rain (yet to try in heavy rain)Very easy to style and goes with most outfits/occasions e.g. Dog walk or lunch with friends.Cons-Need to size up as comes slightly small. The size was a UK 12 on the label but none of the size 12 people who tried it on could wear it. It worked for someone size 10 (they wrote the review eventually)but might have been even better on a size 8 person.Hood is not removableIt is expensive (usually priced at £170.00) but a well made product that feels like it will last a long time, with minimal wear. Will be a staple item in my wardrobe due to its versatility. So, recommended if it fits.
