It wasn’t long after I first purchased a stainless-steel vacuum flask that I discovered that while it didn’t shatter in the same way that the old glass ones did, it didn’t take very much of a dent to the outside shell to close the vacuum gap and allow all of the heat in my coffee to be conducted away. I have tried to be more careful since, but a flask often ends up in an outer pocket of a rucksack, or simply on the outer edge of the main bag, and it’s all too easy to damage it.This Thermos-branded “ultimate insulation” flask has been well designed to protect it from damage from dropping. The base is protected by a dense, slightly-soft plastic cover, and a rubber ring goes around the top of the flash just under where the cup/top cover screws on. The cup itself is hard plastic, with a slightly softer protective outer layer as well. All in all, therefore, this flask looks well-built to resist damage from being dropped in a way that all-metal one, like my current flask, is not and it looks pretty distinctive, too, although the yellow protective band jars a bit against the muted colours of the rest of the construction. I am not sure, however, whether it will be any more resistant to the damage caused by it falling sideways onto a sharp object or just a bump, or from such a bump being delivered while it is down the side of a rucksack. In fact the sidewall of this flask is slightly more malleable than that of my current one – but perhaps this means it is more able to spring back into the correct shape after minor damage. To be realistic, however, one has to accept that flasks are not indestructible. If they are to be of a reasonable weight then they will be prone to damage in some circumstances, and you have to take care of them. Which brings me to weight, definitely one of the advantages of this particular model – it weighs just 290g, compared to the 350g of my current one, while holding the same 500ml. That’s only a 5% weight saving when full of coffee but a more impressive sounding 15% when its empty. Every little helps at the end of a long day in the hills. The flask does seem to live up to its 24 hour promise, too – boiling water was still at a just-bearable hand hot 24 hours later. A good piece of kit, and I look forward to field testing it next summer.

I'm sure most people know Thermos as the most widely used and trusted brand when it comes to thermal cups. It's nice to see that they've developed quite a nice style to their containers since I last looked at them. This one has a really attractive looking metallic finish with a functional rubber non-slip grey rubber on the base and cap, with a funky bit of yellow rubber on the neck. All of these help to keep the container in place while holding and twisting it open (even if your hands are a bit damp it's fine).I'm a photographer and this is fantastic for taking out on location or to events when I know I won't be able to easily get a drink. At the moment it's winter and it's keeping my tea nicely hot after several hours out in the cold and in the hotter summer months it'll be keeping my juice ice cold. It's really handy that the screw top cap to the container also acts as a small cup as I would likely forget to take a cup and wouldn't want the extra weight in my bag. It's easy to wash it once you get home, comprising 4 chunky parts to clean and dry.The only downside of this container is that it's a 500ml capacity so is only really a couple of normal cups of tea for one person. If you drink a lot or will be out for a very long time you may not find it sizeable enough. For me, since I dont drink loads when out and about, it's absolutely perfect as it provides good refreshment without unnecessary extra weight.

Wow.This is an excellent, excellent excellent vacuum flask.First of all, the colour it is a burnished beep nickel colour with a gorgeous metallic finish which the image only hints at.So it is a very good looking flask, indeed it gets comments whenever I am using it.I wanted a small flask for my daypack when walking and this fits the bill well, I ordered the smaller size, and it really does keep drinks piping hot.The stopper does not feel as if it has tightened enough when using it, but so far so good. The other comment is that there is a folded instruction sheet in the flask when it arrives.Whoever decided this was a good idea on the smaller size should never be allowed to make any more decisions ever; it took forever to get it out,you can't get your fingers in the flask and it would just not come out. Grrrr. In use this is just so well designed, the yellow band is high grip, and so that along with the ridged stopper top mean it can be used with gloves on, perfect for cold winter days on the hills.Despite that, I ❤️ this flask!UpdateI have liced with this flask for a while now and it is excellent. It keeps hot drinks very hot for at least 12 hours, and that is in perishingly cold conditions outdoors. it can be used with gloves on (yay!) and really is excellent. If only all flasks were this good. Please ask any questions and I will do my best to answer them.

OK!.....I put my hands up,I can never refuse a thermos flask......Mostly because the original glass thermos flasks were so easily broken.....However a few years back some semi genius came up with the idea of a Stainless steel thermos.......Personally I have had a few steel ones and one or two of them were total rubbish and weren't fit for purpose! One of them died within a very short period and wouldn't maintain any heat......Since then I have mostly gone the old fashioned glass vacuum route......But now this new style Stainless steel model has changed my mind somewhat...I have had the flask now for three days and have tried it with hot water and with iced water......The advertising is pretty much spot on ie."keeps hot for 24 hours and cold for 24 hours" at least it worked for me!On the exterior I have to say that its a very smart looking bit of kit and is exceptionally lightweight for your rucksack.....The only issue I have with this product is the price,at almost £28 it is very pricey.....on the other hand the 900 ml flask is only a couple of pounds more expensive and it is probably better to buy the larger one.But on the whole its a terrific bit of kit!

This flask from Thermos is not cheap, but believe me it is well worth the money. This sturdy little flask is small enough to fit in a decent size bag or briefcase yet will still fill 5 of the screw-on cups, or two and a half large mugfuls. It has a double-option screw cap, in that one can use it as a normal screw cap or use the pouring facility. But joy oh joy, this Thermos really does what it claims as it keeps my coffee piping-hot right to the last drop. This little gem of a thermos is ideal when out and about and have no access to the drink one prefers; for example I can only drink decaffeinated coffee which isn't available at the OU day-school/tutorials I attend and this secure Thermos can be carried alongside my books etc.as there is no danger of it spilling its contents.Although I haven't tried it, without doubt, I believe that it will take all the knocks that may come its way without suffering any damage as it looks as tough as nails yet at the same time it is a smart, stylish, efficient thermos and is most definitely worth 5 stars!

Ok, so this is by no means a cheap item and so we need to consider value. I'll therefore assume that the person buying this isn't after a bog standard, old school, cheap and cheerful, but still pretty effect thermos. I'm assuming you want the full on heat and cold abilities and the go anywhere, well protected for the long term features ... and the brand name.Judged on the latter basis then you have to say 4**** is fair. It's still difficult to simply forget the premium pricing. First off it's attractive and stylish. It also works amazingly well. But who wants to store stuff for up to 24 hours in a thermos - I dunno. If you do, it'll be handy. It is highly protected from all reasonable knocks and bumps with rubberisation at key vulnerable points. The lid is secure and seals well. You can unscrew the neck to aid cleaning. The one irritating thing about this item is that it takes way longer to fish out the small instruction leaflet from the inside as it does to actually make use of it. Who's daft idea was that?

Only purchased this Thermos a couple of days ago, so haven't used it in anger yet, but yesterday performed a bench test on it's thermal properties. Filled with just off the boil water, sealed and left for 24 hours on a kitchen counter (ambient temperature around 20 deg C, (London, September)). At the end of this period I opened the flask and inserted a digital thermometer probe into the middle of the filled flask, temperature read an impressive 59.6 degrees Celsius. It's also physically slightly smaller than the 470ml Thermos King and feels lighter too. Looks and feels well made and when filled the outer walls remained cool. Early days, but I'm very happy with this flaskUPDATE: I didn't get a chance to have a meal break last night at work,so flask remained sealed with 400g/400ml of tinned cream of tomato soup for 18 hours. Flask had been pre-heated with boiling water. Flask was obviously 100ml short of being full (so big air gap), temperature of soup when opened this morning 52 degrees Celsius

I've had a few steel lined flasks in recent years and become resigned to the fact that since no-one uses glass inserts anymore they are all much of a muchness, in other words drinks stay hot/cold for about 5 hours, after which they rapidly cool down or warm up ( depending on what you've put in obviously)I was recommended this thermos by a friend ( cheers Mike!) as we sat on top of a cumbrian mountain on the Kentmere round a few months back. He was enjoying a hot drink out of this and I was semi-enjoying luke warm soup out my Stanley stubby flask. I've used this half a dozen times in recent weeks on long 400 mile/ 16 hour day work trips in the car. It's kept hot stuff hot all day,and last week when I put cold water with ice cubes in it, the ice cubes were still in there 18 hours later, Impressed I was!, as Yoda would say.Not the cheapest, but definitely the best I've used in the last 20 years by far.

If all the flasks I've used, this is the best.It is unreal how long things stay hot in this. Be sure to warn the interior first, obviously.I'm glad I waited for the second generation of the ultimate, just fit the new stopper/lid: hats off to thermos for designing the perfect pouring cap. No weird nozzles, buttons or otherwise difficult to clean and overly complicated stoppers. This two piece pouring lid is so easy to use and clean. I think it is probably half the reason the insulation is so good. You can see that the vacuum part goes right up to the lip of the flask, and the cap or super goes a good inch below this lip.Another thing which is a nice touch is that all of the rubber grips (at the base and below the cup)cab be removed for cleaning. Much more hygienic than gluing them on.A beautifully designed and constructed flask.

I purchased the 900ml version last year and it has proved to be a cracking piece of kit. I needed a smaller flask for hill walking in the summer months, so I bought the 500ml version. It's compact, it really is a scaled down version of the 900ml flask. I gave it a test at home, just to see what the heat retention is like. I preheated the flask by filling it with boiling water closing it up and then letting it sit for 5 minutes. I Emptied it out and immediately filled it again with boiling water, sealing the flask up and leaving it aside. That was at 8pm.At 6.30am the following morning I made a piping hot cup of coffee using the contents of the flask. OK wasn't boiling,it was steaming and easily hot enough for coffee. So far so good, and I am impressed with the performance this little flask.

I've had a few flasks over recent years and haven't had much luck, breaking the glass liners and failure of some of the stainless steel versions to keep the content warm. Before purchasing this Thermos version I carried out a search on the internet to see if I could source a robust, quality stainless steel flask at a relatively cheap price that could keep the content warm. I've only used the Thermos Ultimate on a couple of occasions after purchasing it about a month ago. I've been impressed with the quality and it does keep the content very warm for a long periods. Its fitted with a couple of rubber collars which helps protect it from impacts and also provides good grip.I just need to establish how it will stand up to the harsh wear and tear, but at this stage I'd strongly recommend it?

I did overnight test comparing this with 500ml flask purchased from Tesco a couple of months back. Filled both with boiling water, let stand 10 min with lids on, then emptied and refilled both, lids on again and waited 14 hrs. Both flasks were hot and steaming when opened later, but the thermos ultimate water was hotter. I had no thermometer, but I poured water from each into mugs, stuck my thumbs into both, but had to quickly withdraw from thermos flask as much too hot for comfort. Made a coffee with water from thermos ultimate, and good heat for drinking even with a good amount of cold milk added. On basis of this,I’ve sent for another couple of these flasks so all the family can enjoy hot drinks when out and about - ‘cafe in the car’ our preference now due to covid.

The insulation on this Thermos is amazing, it keeps the hot water really, really hot for absolutely ages. My husband works in a workshop with no heating, so takes two Thermos flasks with him every day. This Thermos is brilliant, much better at keeping the heat in, and is more effective than his older Thermos flasks. He pours in just-boiled water the previous evening, and it is still really hot the next day at work. The rubber around the lid makes it easy to twist off and also makes the cup more stable (it kind of sticks out a bit at the base of the cup). The cap is really robust and should last for ages (we've still got Thermos flasks that are over 10-15 years old that are still going strong).A really well-made flask, I can't fault it at all.

Bought for Hubby's Xmas present for taking hot drinks on hikes and snowsports trips. Turns out it's being used for taking coffee to work or in the garage, but is too heavy and big to carry in the rucksack. However, he says that he's very happy with it and it's "wonderful". Has been used a lot for 10+ months.Does seem to be leakproof and pretty rugged, cleans easily, doesn't smell and keeps things very warm for all day even in near or sub zero temperatures. So all in all a very good flask: but maybe not if weight is an absolute issue. Then again, the size determines the amount of liquid, which determines the weight carried - so perhaps he should just carry a smaller flask? This one takes 2 mugs'equivalents.

I have the litre version of this which I found fantastic in that it keeps hot drinks hot all day. Only thing I found was it was too big for me and I was bringing half a flask full of hot drink home most days. The 500ml is perfect for one person for fitting in a small rucksack and for a couple of large hot drinks when you cant get to a kettle. I preheat mine as sometimes I have a long day and still want it being hot after 12 or so hours. The cup could dowith being a lot bigger and the screw top isn't to my liking but otherwise I have not found better in my search for the best flask. For those who want a flask that keeps drinks hot for most of the day this is a great choice.
