Have purchased two of these, one purchased from another supplier for coffee while I am running a market stall with my other half. When I have placed Coffee in the flask at 5am the final dregs are still piping hot at 2pm in the afternoon even though I have been drinking cups all morning and the outdoor tempratures on occasion have been close to 0c. With this in mind I had been searching for a food flask and had purchased various to find they were pretty well useless, none managed to keep the food hot for long periods even when boasting 8-10 hours! Most failed to keep food warm period! Ultimately purchased Hercules flask number two for use as a food flask, obviously it is not as good as a coventional food flask as you can't eat food directly from the flask, so it limits what food you can use it for, but as I normally have some form of soup for lunch when on the market stall, this is not a major issue, just means for chunky soups the early cups are more liquid and the last ones are more chunks than soup. Not perfect I know, but it does result in mouth scaldingly hot food being available 6 or seven hours after being placed in the flask. With this in mind it would probably work fairly well with things like pasta in sauce or rice dishes as long as the chunks are not too big.Just for information with both flasks we fill them with boiling water and leave them standing to warm up for 15-30 minutes before placing the boiling coffee/soup in them, as would be the requirement for any flask, for effective operation. (Hot water not wasted, does the washing up)Not tested the flasks ability to float but they have been dropped/knocked of tables on to concrete paving with no more than minor scratches resulting. In summary this flask is well worth the money.

This item was subjected to a more challenging test than I`d anticipated...The Hercules flask has a robust, polythene plastic outer casing with a typical Thermos stainless steel inner casing; the stopper is deep and has ingenious slots moulded into the thread so that the liquid can be poured without having to remove it, retaining the heat/chill longer. The plastic cup would have been improved by the addition of a handle, but otherwise it's a pretty decent, functional piece of kit - the carry-handle on the main body is a useful design element. When it came to testing it, I filled it with hot coffee late in the afternoon and put it in the car intending to take it to my workplace for the next morning; due to a severe frost overnight I cancelled my trip out, opting to work at home – the car was frozen solid till 10.30am. I brought the flask in and had the coffee at lunchtime – it was as hot as it had been when I prepared it. That's no more than I would expect from a Thermos flask, but it was a little more exacting a test than I had intended.I've only had the flask for a few days; I'm happy with it so far – I'll update this review should that change – but this seems to be a good, solid item at a competitive price.

Good value large flask from the world's most recognised brand. Very lightweight yet feels decently put together. Haven't had time to test the claim that it floats when full but see no reason to doubt that. 5-year warranty shows that Thermos believe in the quality of their product. Rugged, with a good 1L capacity and a decent sized cup. Like the twist stopper that allows pouring without removing it ! Scanning other reviews it sounds like other users have accidentally tested the ruggedness by dropping onto concrete etc and the reports are good ! My testing of the ability to keep drinks hot suggests that it does a great job - try to pre-warm with boiling water for 10 mins or so and then put your hot drink into the flask.Easily lasts most of the day if you fill it the night before. Obviously, once you open the flask and let some cold air in then it starts to drop the time it will keep things hot but even so, in normal use it will last all day if you are out and about. Only slight downside is slightly slippery cup - could lead to slips/drops when using gloves or with wet hands.

Not the best looking Thermos on the market, the design is actually quite effective. The plastic protects the flask from damage, and the bulk allows it to float if for some reason you are using it on water. Despite the industrial looks it is actually surprisingly light, and the thick handle is comfortable to hold even while wearing work gloves. It has flat spots on the side opposite the handle which prevent it rolling away if stored on its side.In use it is simply amazing. At 1 pm I pre-warmed the flask for ten minutes before filling with coffee, which I made with real milk. Drinking half a cup of water every hour or so the coffee was still too hot to gulp at half ten at night.Brilliant.The only thing I would have improved would be the colour. If you are making a flask to use where there is a danger of it floating away then I would have made it in a brighter colour so that if it does fall in it isn't camouflaged. Some reflective hi-viz stickers have sorted that out on mine. But overall this flask is well designed and performs fantastically. Highly recommended.

On the practicalities, I can't fault this: it is practical, pretty rugged and, to my mind at least, it looks good albeit without the stainless steel flourishes of more fashionable flasks I have seen. Actually, I think I like it better for its plain simplicity. It has stainless steel, where it matter - inside, with a double skin of SS tubing instead of the fragile glass that I have been used to up until now. It says that it holds 1 litre, but allowing room for its substantial stopper, it holds a fraction over 900 ml and keeps the contents scalding hot after four hours of storage. You wouldn't be ashamed to take this onto the building site, to a picnic, or in my case out for a day's fishing where it is eminently practical. The cup is quite large, slightly thick which I assume helps to insulate the contents and protects the lip from burning and it has only the merest aroma of plastic that does not, so far, affect the flavours poured into it.

When used purely for hot water, it does indeed last 24 hours, in fairly cold conditions. One can still make a decent tea or coffee after the water has been stored 24 hours, during camping trips when the temperature drops to 5C over night. It is very well built and does not leak when the stopper is properly tightened, even after a year of use. The amount of times I've dropped this flask but still it keeps performing well. Sure, there are cheaper flasks and there are ones with higher capacity but for all out durability and heat keeping without breaking into the realms of the £50 plus Stanley Master, the Thermos Hercules is excellent. It does have to be said that, once one starts emptying the flask, the inside temperature tends to cool more rapidly.I have not been in place to put its floating function to test but I'm sure it would perform as stated.Read full review...

In a nutshell, this is a very practical, well made flask that does the job of keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold very well.On the plus side the drinking cup is a good size, (I often find the cups are so small on flasks - to the point that they are just not practical)It also floats, which is kind of a neat idea. However it is let down by its looks. If looks are unimportant to you then add a star and buy this without hesitation, it is a great flask. If looks and design do matter this flask has a really cheap plastic feel to it. Not a rugged rubberised outdoors look, just a very plastic look. This detracts from the flask and for me makes it less desirable and so I have deducted a star takingit from "I love it" to "I like it"I hope these comments help.If you have any questions please just ask and I will be happy to help.

This flask looks a bit nondescript with it's plastic body in battleship grey, but it's really good at keeping things at a steady temperature (I have had piping-hot tea out of it after 10 hours, although I recommend storing the milk separately and adding as you drink. The lid/cup is plastic, but it stays cool enough in the hand; it's a proper mug size, too.I've dropped this without it breaking, but perhaps I was just lucky - I'm not planning to let it happen again. For one person this is perhaps quite large, but the advantage is that you could put your food in here to keep it warm.We always warm the flask with boiling water before decanting hot liquids into flasks in our household,as the results are a lot better.

I work evenings and find it quite difficult to get a hot drink through the evening. I was using an insulated mug, but this lasted about 2 hours, and, of course, is rather limited in volume. I tried a couple of flasks, plenty of cheap flasks on eBay, but they only seemed to last a short period before all of the heat was escaping.I selected the Hercules because id had a good thermal specification, was constructed of stainless steel and all encased in a hard wearing plastic case. I was not disappointed when it arrived. It keeps drink hot for the whole of my shift (up to 13 hours) I am really please with this purchase, and the higher price is well worth paying.Oh,and it comes with a decent sized cup too!!

Absolutely superb at keeping soup hot all day (and I do mean from very early morning until late st night) , the strength of this was unintentionally proven by being accidentally dropped down a flight of concrete stairs when full. No damage to the all important internal vacuum flask and only the slightest of grazes to the hard wearing plastic outer casing. Very impressive. The only thing we miss is a handle to the screw lid/cup but that really is a very minor issue. The cup itself is comfortable to hold. Haven't tested the fladk'scsbility to float ( not sure to be honest when I would use that) but, even ignoring that feature, this is a very impressive flask with a good capacity.Easily recommended.

As cool as a flask can be! It's not actually cool like the Fonzi or Samual L Jackson in Pulp Fiction but it is a great flask. Keeps hot things very hot etc. Light, strong and with a good pourer. I've accidently given it a few knocks so far and there's a reassuring sound of the steel internal flask part. I've broken a couple of other flasks in the last 12 months, but I fully expect this one to last me years.Good sized handle, can get my fingers through the gap to grip it properly. Good sized cup, flask holds enough for three decent cups of tea.Haven't tried the 'floating even when full' feature yet! And don't really expect to!!All in all an excellent flask at a very good price.

I bought this for a road trip around Iceland. I did a lot a research on the best flask for keeping water hot for a full day, knowing there would be times where we would be in the middle of nowhere and this one kept coming up as the best. I now know why. We would fill it on a morning before we left our accommodation and the water was still boiling hot by the end of the day, in fact it was still hot enough the next morning to make a coffee with. Being able to have a hot drink while stood next to a glacier was one of those nice little moments. If you need a flask that will keep the water hot all day long then this is well worth the money.

This is an excellent heat-holding flask, as you'd expect from this brand. My coffee was still hot enough after 11 hours which is pretty impressive. It's a little large perhaps but perfect for a family picnic or even the solo traveller who won't be able to access a kettle or cafe for several hours. It would also be handy if you knew you would be without power in the house for a while and wanted to keep a supply of hot water to hand. The cup is excellent, it's so wide you could easily use it as a soup bowl. The handle is very comfortable to hold and the flask as a whole looks and feels balanced, a pleasing, if simple, design.

We often use a thermos for coffee when we go on days out so was happy to try this one out. This is a large thermos at 35cm high but it's very light. As a test I filled this with hot water and left for over 24 hours and was pleased to find that it was still steaming hot. On recent day out we took coffee and used it three times during the day. The coffee was hot each time. It's great that you don't have to remove the stopper when pouring as this keeps the heat in.My one niggle is the cup. It's a good size but it doesn't have a handle and it's hard to grip. I can't get it undone and had to pass it to my husband every time.

Pros:-Robustly made-stainless steel solid insulation-keeps the temperature well for st least 4-5 hours keeps for very hot & after 12 hours to 24 hours hot but not very hot. (Obviously you can't expect any flask to do that!).-well known brandCons:-Bulky- don't like plastic (would prefer a more natural material)-very ugly design & boring colour-can't find how to pour this without opening the cap. Thus have to keep opening & unscrewing the cap. There's a way of unscrewing half -way but as I use it to brew tea-leaves, it's not practical for me.-a little over-priced
