Purchased this under the impression that it was an authentic Sony part as stated by the title and the item manufacturer. No retail packaging usually means OEM. However, when the bracket arrived (seller Mayflower Stores), it was clear that this poorly made piece of metal was not a genuine Sony part. This was confirmed when I compared it to an authentic one purchased aftewards.If you're after an authentic Sony mount, here are a few things to look out for:Compared with a retail package genuine Sony hard drive mount, all of the edges on the fake mount feel rough/sharp as if they weren't filed down smoothly - these will cut into your skin if not careful.The Sony mount has nice smooth edges.The fake's rubber plug/washer is much thicker than the authentic one, which means that there won't be as much of the screw holding the hard drive in place. The rubber washers on the fake are also too loose, so they may not hold the hard drive as sturdily as the authentic. The authentic washers have four raised bumps on each side as per the stock photo, whereas the fakes have smooth surfaces.A couple of the screws that came with the fake had broken threads, whereas the ones that came with the Sony had no issues.In general, the holes on the fake mount are poorly cut. For example, there's a photo showing a raised hole which looks dog bitten and feels sharp to the touch. This is a part that faces down when installed, and I don't want to risk it scratching anything inside the PS3. The hole on the Sony is, again, perfectly smooth.The metal attachment on the bracket should slide out easily, since it's the part you pull on to remove the mount from the PS3. The one on the fake is stiff, cannot physically be pushed in further than the photos show, which means that it sticks out when the mount is installed.I have nothing against third party parts as long as they are labelled as such; listing third party parts under "Sony" on the other hand, is simply dishonest.

The 12GB PS3 doesn't come with an internal HDD cage so you need this if you plan on adding a hard disk to the 12GB model.This is an official Sony version it comes with instructions, 5 screws (four larger ones for attaching the hard drive, one small one to secure the cage in the PS3) You have 4 rubber grommets to attach to the 4 holes this helps keep noise/vibration down though 2.5" hard drives are fairly quiet anyway.Put the rubber grommets on the 4 holes you should make sure the rubber is on both sides (inside and out there is a groove in each grommet) Screw in the hard drive with the connectors facing away from the metal tab where you fix it to the PS3To install the cage: (turn off the PS3)1:Put the PS3 on it's side with the Blu ray disc drive closest to you (the right hand side of the PS3), push and slide the cover in the direction away from you towards the back of the PS3, you don't need a screwdriver it just pops off2: Slot in the hard drive and cage and use the single screw to attach the tab of the cage to the mounting bracket3: Power on the PS3, the 12GB slim model will then prompt you automatically if you want to use the HDD for storage click yes it formats the drive and will then start copying the data from the internal flash memory to the hard disk4: Go away and make a cup of tea for 10-15 mins or so to allow it to copy the data and it's ready to roll, PS3 12GB upgraded to hard disk drive.If you ever remove/change the hard drive then the system will default to the internal flash memory so make sure to back up your data.In terms of the bracket it's a simple pressed metal affair but it's cheap, easy to install and does the job just great.

My PS3 (I can't remember which) only had like 8GB of space or something. Seriously Sony, what were you thinking? I could barely do anything on it as there was never any internal space left!Opted for a new hard drive, and saw this under the "Other customers also purchased" so thought that it be a good idea that I do too, after all it's not really expensive.Anyway, it's a simple product, and I definitely needed it. The playstation didn't come with one of these built in. Again Sony, seriously?However installation was easy. Unscrew a few screws, pop the hard drive into this, slot this into the playstation, and you'll feel with it's clicked into place.Screw back together, power on,and the playstation will ask if you'd like to move your stuff to the hard drive!Honestly, the process was really easy, and I had no problems with installation!

This bracket was great for upgrading my PS3 Superslim... (NB. Does not fit other PS3 models)...I now have FIVE HUNDRED SEXY GiGGLEBYTES of Game and Video storage...It came with all the screws you need, and with a little time, and a Philips screwdriver it was making my life better and more fulfilled... :)Sadly Philip wasn't as agreeable, as he has been hounding me for his screwdriver to be returned, and has even been talking about pressing charges for theft and trespass...Sadly, I can't explain that it was given freely, as it was given by his wife, whom I'd been having illicit liaisons with, as a way to stem my boredom from a practically unusable PS3...So, moral of the story...sex is a good substitute for gaming, but make sure you don't have anything incriminating in view when their husband comes over for a drink... ;)B_H

I adopted the PS3 pretty late in this generation and wanted to save some money. I was surprised to learn the PS3 did not need an expensive proprietary hard drive and that many 2.5 inch hard drives fit and work in the console. To save some cash I bought the PS3 super slim with 12GB of flash memory and no hard drive, I intended on using a spare Seagate: Momentus 5400.6 I removed from a netbook during an upgrade.The HDD doesn't just fit straight in you need a mounting bracket like this. The Bracket itself seems well made, no rough edges and the screw threads are accurate. The necessary fittings are included and mounting the drive to this bracket and then fitting them into the console is easy andonly takes a few minutes.

This is an excellent product, and you cannot really go wrong with it, as it is, what it is, a Mounting Bracket for a HDD for your New Super Slim PS3 12gb. Why Sony thinks it is good idea to sell you a PS3 with a built in 12gb Flash Drive and no hard drive carriage is shocking to me, knowing 100% that the first item on the agenda will be to expand the memory capacity. You think with all the money they make, some bright spark at Sony would have thought to supply us, the customer with a HDD Mounting Bracket free with the Super Slim PS3, but NO, you open the box and nothing, you then open the side of the PS3 console and nothing, so as i said, great product,as you have no choice but to buy it LOL.

This caddy is required if you want to upgrade your super slim ps3 with only the built in flash storage. I already had a wd scorpio black hdd from a previous upgrade from my old fat ps3, and this fits perfectly. I now have a newer, quiter slim ps3 with 750gb of storage.I was a bit annoyed at learning you have to buy an internal caddy for my particular ps3 super slim in order to upgrade, but this was very well priced and well made, and even has little rubber washers around the screw mounts in order to kill vibration and noise (you can only just see them in the images).The upgrade was simple, and I would do it a.s.a.p if you want to do any gaming on a super slim.

Bought this alongside the Hitachi 500gb 500 GB 2.5 Inch for my PS3.My only issue is the instructions were not at all clear. It took me 2 hours just to get the hard drive into the bracket, as it did not mention what to do with the rubber grommets it came with, meaning the hard drive wouldn't stay in and I did get quite worried I was damaging the drive. I can't remember how I did it but make sure the grommets are in the bracket as displayed in the image when putting the hard drive in. Following the instructions to the letter led to the drive being installed poorly.However now that it's in I had zero issues putting it into the PS3 and installing the software.

Perfect for anyone wanting to install either a new or old hard drive into the new PS3 12GB device that comes with no hard drive as standard.This is a mounting bracket so you can secure your hard drive into your 12GB device properly, the build quality is good and the price is probably about right.PS3s require a 5400rpm 2.5" hard drive, other drives will not work so please ensure you have the correct hard drive to install, any hard drives out of old PS3s will work.Please bear in mind, when you install a new hard drive into a PS3 you will be forced to format it and will lose any data on the drive.In short, does what you need it to do.

Any make will work and any gig/terra bite will work for example 40GB/120GB/1TB/320GB/500GB etcremember your hard drive must be formatted to fat32 which your ps3 will do for you as soon as your hard drive/mounting bracket is fitted.GREAT PRODUCT SO SO SIMPLE TO FIT

For those of you thinking of buying the 12 GB Superslim Playstation and then installing your own larger harddrive, then you will need to purcase this bracket. This allows you to purchase any size hard drive, screw onto this bracket by following the simple instructions and simply slide open the PS3 from the side and effortlessly insert in. This will work out much cheaper than buying the 500 GB version. You should note that this Bracket is only compatible with the Superslim, and previous Slim or Fat PS3 brackets won't fit in the Superslim, although you can use their Harddrives with this bracket and use in the Superslim.

We bought my son the new PS3 12gb for Christmas. After much net searching we decided to upgrade the memory to 500gb. Following instructions on lots of forums it was just a case of slipping the new hard drive into the cage 5 screws and off you go.NO NO NO - you need to but this little gizmo too - this cage holds the hard drive in place without which you can't do the upgrade!If you are upgrading an old type PS3 to a larger memory - eg 120gb to 500gb you do not need this but if you have bought the 12gb slim PS3 and wish to upgrade you will need this to be able to complete the job.

Just cracked my 12gb PS3 open assuming this was bracket was inside. Noticed it wasn't so managed to line up the drive to the slots in the bottom. Took about 5mins to get it I discovered you have it right if you can turn the PS3 upside down and it doesn't fall out by itself. Its as loose as hell but as long as you don't need to jiggle your console around while its on you should be fine.Do at owners risk!£20 and 2-3 working days of waiting saved!p.s. other option is to put it in a boot PS3 up with side panel off, it will tell you if there is a HDD in there or not.

Really easy to install.Screw a new 2 5" hard disk drive in to this cradle with the 4 silver screws provided then slide in on the right hand side just below the blue ray drive of your 12Gb super slimline PS3. Secure with the blue screw provided and clip the side cover back on. When you next turn on all your data automatically transfers from the built in flash drive. Straightforward instructions are included.So easy to do, just wish I'd known before I'd bought the 12Gb version that it's almost unusable without this upgrade.

It does exactly what it says on the tin, and of course was very easy to install. at a good price I might add. I see no reason to get sony's more expensive version over this. I finally installed the hard drive in my ps3 in a less hill billy, and temporary way (I was using pieces of cardboard on each side to support it, for a few days)Also, one thing the description doesn't make crystal clear, is this is only for the super slim, not for other models. The hard drive caddy from the others, are different.
