I have been using it for around 2 years, & have had no problems with it so far.I am still using a Freecom 500GB hard drive from many years ago with no problems.which is an extra reason for choosing a hard drive from the same company.easily installed. I use 1 partition for backups & the other to mainly store video's on. (to avoid filling up my main pc drive)I rarely move it around. so don't know how sturdy it would be, if I did this regularly.windows sometimes has problems detecting large drives, so I recommend leaving it partitioned.as it recognizes them as individual smaller drives, with no problems. (maybe windows / Microsoft will solve this in the future ?)but I altered the sizes of the partitions,to fit my needs, with no problems.(I backed up the software on the drives 1st. & after completion replaced the software)also remember also to backup the software onto another drive, if you are going to alter the drives format.or you will loose everything on there.

I have deliberately waited to review this product as I wanted to wait some time in case the product was deteriorating over time. So far so good.I use this hard-drive as a back-up drive, so it does not have regular heavy use. The case feels nice and solid. It handles well (not slippery, too bulky, heavy, light or weight unbalanced) and does not feel fragile at any point. The rounded corners, metal top instil a sense of solidity. Installation is as easy as could be. The product is quiet and works reasonably fast on my equipment. To this point this hard-drive has given me excellent service and only time will tell how many years it will continue to do so.Would I recommend it? For back-up purposes it seems perfect.I cannot tell what effects heavy daily use and much transport would have.I've now had the machine for well over a year and it's still going strong. Mind you - I've not been carrying it around much, but used it for back-up purposes only.

The HD arrived very quickly and was well packaged. It looks very well, it is compact and stylish. Very easy to install. It works very quietly and it is fast. However! The blue LED light in the On-Off button stopped working after only a few uses, which is very disappointing, as this light is the only way to tell whether the drive is on or off once you've turned your computer off. The result is that the drive is very easily forgotten turned on all the time. I did not expect this kind of problem from a Freecom product. I just hope this doesn't mean that the rest of the drive is as flimsily built... Time will tell. Also, the USB cable is very short, so if your computer is going to be further than approx.50 cm away from the drive, you will have to buy a longer cable.

Works very well for me. Set-up took a bit longer than expected because it wouldn't re-format for my mac until I'd turned off the Intego anti virus and shut down the other open programs. Once I'd realised I had to do this (by trial and error as set up instructions are minimal) it was fine and since then has worked well. It did seem to slow down some programs on my laptop if I used them at the same time as doing a backup so now I only backup selectively, once a day or after putting a lot of new stuff on the computer. I don't know if it would slow things down if it was plugged in all the time and was doing regular back-ups throughout the day.Maybe it would work better doing continuous back-ups on a desktop

I bought 3 of these as I'm leaving the country for a year and want to hold the majority of my media content into a compact design. So far everything is running great. They're all now NTFS formatted and you have a total volume of 931 GB. Be aware that the cables are USB 3.0 with a A to Micro-B head (male) but they are decent length (about 2 feet). The drives are also noticeably faster than USB 2.0 drives and are a very pleasing sleek form factor allowing for solid stacking without looking out of place.I've own several Freecom hard drives in the past and I'll be happy to continue buying from Freecom again if they keep bringing out solid products like these.

This drive will work with both Macs and Windows out of the box. The drive comes pre-formatted with 2TB and 1TB partitions both formatted to FAT32. I have formatted the 2TB partition to NTFS and left the 1 TB partition as FAT32. Really impressed with the data transfer speeds of this drive, much faster than other drives of a similar spec. The supplied USB 3 cable is a little short,(600mm end to end) I use a USB 3 extension cable. (If you decide to get a longer cable the type you need is USB 3.0 Type A Male to B Male Cable.) Overall am impressed with this external hard drive, it is no slouch and have found Freecom products to be very reliable.

I bought the Freecom 1TB drive to replace an older, smaller drive I use when travelling. I download both files and videos from my iMac and use it with both the iMac and my Windows laptop. The drive setup was simple for both Mac and Windows and the performance is excellent, even though neither of my computers supports USB 3. The drive is slim and so easy to travel with and the design should look good when I eventually replace my Windows laptop with a Macbook Air.

i have only had my new hard drive for a few weeks but up to now it as lived up to my expectations, I have transferred all my photos from my previuos smaller freecom hard drive as I was running out of space it did the job quickly and efficiently even though it was only used with a usb2 connection. No complaints so far, if it's as good as the previous version I own and lasts as long I will consider it a very good buy.

Positives:This product works perfectly on my Samsung Smart TV, just plug into the USB & your working t couldn't be easier. The price is excellent for the quality of the product.Negatives:Really need a twin tuner for recording & watching a different channel at the same time!

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is very thin, coupled with good design and takes up very little space. This is my second drive had a 500 mg before UK upgrading to 1 terabyte. Whilst it might be a little more expensive than other models, you get what you pay for.

I needed a lot more storage space but still something smaller than the normal 2TB drives I came across and this does it all. The 2TB gives me more than enough space and the size is just perfect although it does need plugged into socket. Can't recommend highly enough.

Got this on a deal for £29. Absolutely awesome at that price. Uploaded 3500 pics some mp4 video only took couple of minutes. Fastest drive i have used and very small. Would buy another if it was same price, always check other buying options under price

Odd shape but very quick and very quiet I bought it at £30, I see its back up to over £70 :(2 years old and the electronics have failed. I have taken the harddrive out and used it for something else. Binned the rest

I've been using this product for almost a year as a Time Machine drive for my iMac, and had no issues. It's small, quiet, and reliable. I'm now pondering buying another to use for my iTunes library.
