I have drunk a LOT of whiskies so far and maybe some of you are familiar with a drink called GOSLINGS 151, then you will be familiar with the 75% rum that actually tastes amazing and not like you are just drinking some ethanolYou will never really hear me say this but I believe the alcohol content here is too high and masks some of the smokey taste here. I am having a bit of trouble lately with becoming accustomed so much to peaty taste that I can barely taste it anymore. Laphroig to me just tastes sweet even now. So maybe I have to leave peated stuff for a while and come back to it.Smokehead have made a decent impression but for most the 50+ % is not the easiest for most.I am fine with it no matter what the alcohol content to drink straight and sip along the way.Just keep in mind that this one is not ideal for someone to be looking at the Smokehead range from the start. I would say go for the regular SmokeHead first and then jump into this one.

I love a peaty and smoky single malt and was looking forward to this and, initially, I was underwhelmed as it is a toddler in the flavoured kick stakes compared to something like a Laphroaig, especially the full-on-king that is Quarter Cask (my favourite if you want to know where I am coming from). Also tasted a little puny and unrefined at first (which others say is due to its youth). You do want a nice whisky as well as peat and smoke (they are just the dark icing on the cake) at the end of the day).Having said all that, I have got used to it and now come to appreciate it as 'go to' whisky when I don't want a full on peaty boot up me bum so it is getting 4 stars when initially I thought 3.Worth a go if you can get it under £30.Gonna have to give the sherry cask one a go too if that ever comes up cheap on here!

Love this Whiskey it’s made by Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd it’s kept a secret by which distillery it actually is it’s one of Islay’s to me it’s possibly Ardbeg I really love the name it says it what this whiskey is all about it’s not for someone who is new to whiskey as this whiskey needs time to build up to it. It’s a proper full on flavour you have lots and lots of smoke it’s peppery it’s nutty and vanilla with a finish of sea salt and brine and leaves your tongue tingling for more it’s an absolute fabulous Whiskey and a last min deal £42.00 it would of been rude not to another whiskey I will 100% buy this again and again and at 58% it’s definitely high voltage add a few drops of water tobring different flavours out of this delicious whiskey.

Smokehead can be considered one of the best cult peat whiskys in existence. Not for beginners or converted highland fans.It goes beyond the classic smoke of islay and offers a superior peathead experience that is beyond morish. You get brine, seaweed and a subtle sweetness from sherry casking then comes the hard hitting pungent kick of peat, smoke, fire and bog, which lingers just long enough before disappearing with the heat of the whisky. This is a dram you can still taste for hours after. #If you enjoy Laphroig then you will adore this- although they are not in competition with each other and both deserve a place in your collection.I cannot sing its praises enough EVERY smokehead should owna bottle (at least)

This is my first delve into the Islay whiskies. Very impressed and wow, what an absolute smoky smell and taste. Must add a drop of water to this otherwise it will be very Iodine like on the tongue and harsh on the throat if sipped neat, however with a little water its transformed into a campfire in your mouth with the smoke billowing out your nose. Don't think its all smoke and nothing else though, theres some peppery flavours and hints of fruit that come through in the after taste. You wont be disappointed!Excellent whisky, Ill definitely be trying the Ardbeg 10 year next, as this is a rebranded 5 or 7 year.

This is one of my favourite whiskeys. It has a strong peaty/Smokey smell and taste. You end up smelling the glass it as much as you drink from it. I do not recommend mixing it with anything, it is the raw taste you need to experience, adding anything just defeats the object. It may be an acquired taste for some as it is not smooth and gentle like some of the other malts out there, this one bites back. I would say "it has character" and would probably be the kind of whiskey that would pick a fight with the other whiskies and then hit them over the head with a chair before going for a Kebab.

This is definitely a smoky whisky. It's a good whisky, but it won't be to everyone's taste. It is exactly as smoky as the description leads you to believe - I wouldn't say it's overpowering but it does dominate the flavour. I could just about drink it neat, but for me it is vastly improved by at least having it over ice and ideally with a little splash of water. With the edge taken off, it's very enjoyable, but it's still not an everyday drop. It's also a spectacular whisky to mix with, because the flavours are so bold you can either mix small amounts, or with bolder mixers.

I do love a smoky whisky. Sadly the skull packaging that looks like it is marketed toward a teenager kept putting me off.Prime day ment a huge discount so I thought I'd give it a try. How glad I am. Starting from the colour, a dark golden amber. Like a liquid golden syrup. Then the smell gives away just how peated it's going to be and the flavour is divine. Really complex. You can taste the journey it has been on from the peated smoke, to the flavour of the barrels it has been aged in.Next time it is on offer I will stock up on these.

I have tried the Smokehead High Voltage before and that is strong stuff. It was very overpowering with its smokey taste. It tasted like drinking pure iodine to me. I saw the Sherry Bomb on offer and gave it a go. I am really pleased I did. It is much nicer than the High Voltage in my opinion. As it is not as extreme tasting as the high voltage and the Sherry aftertaste goes with it very well. I thought it was lovely. It is expensive - as even on offer I got it for £45. But it is definitely a unique tasting whisky.

This has the nose, palate and finish of an extremely young Lagavulin. The smoke and peat are certainly evident but the whisky is spirit driven. The use of E150 for colour and the fact that it is chill filtered does not improve things. In saying that, it is a worthwhile purchase when on offer. At it’s usual retail price there are too many better single malt whiskies out there that will name the distillery and offer a more balanced, mature whisky with an age statement on it’s label.

I must admit I was a little put off by some of the negative comments but decided to give it a go when it was on offer. First sip was indeed a bit of a shock but after that I really enjoyed it, yes it is VERY smoky and many won't like it but I loved it. I found a drop or two of water or an ice cube changed the profile and did impact the smokiness and that's how I normally drink it but I also enjoy it neat. I would certainly recommend you try it.

I bought this from a combination of the write up and reviews. The sum of these told me I was in for potentially the most peaty whisky I've tried. It tastes fairly young, but not too young though; the peat is present, but more as a strong smoky flavour with just a hint of sherry, turning to caramel with the peat. A nice drop and, whilst smoky, not so intense as Caol ila or similar - I shall enjoy this over the coming months.

This is a good whisky if you like a lot of smoke and provides a good balanced dram, one for the leather armchair and crackling fire on a cold winters night! At full price, I would argue that there are better Islay drams available, such as the Ardbeg 10 or a bit more for the Lagavulin 16 but also the excellent Compass Box Peat Monster. It was good to try and will soon be giving the cask strength Smokehead a go soon!

Well it certainly lives up to its name! There’s no denying it does what it says on the tin! I’m always on the lookout for smokey and peaty whiskey and this definitely fits the bill, it’s a good drink but I would say that it is rough around the edges and it’s not quite up their with Laphroaig or Lagavulin in terms of quality. That said it is a great deal cheaper so perhaps it’s unfair to compare it to that level.

The best Smokehead yet, and a great flavourful Islay single malt. Most definitely worth a try!(If you get it from an Amazon Marketplace seller, just make sure you get what you actually paid for, as been stung once before with Smokehead Rock Edition, but actually got delivered standard Smokehead single malt rather than the special edition)Sherry Bomb is a mouthful of flavour explosion, and joy at every sip
