Ordered this for my 7yr old son to wear on World Book Day. The jacket, undershirt and bow tie all looked brilliant on and the trousers were fine if a little long (nothing a quick alteration with a pair of scissors won't fix!!). The hat arrived 'flat' and looked more like something a scarecrow would wear, so I ordered a different hat. It probably would've been ok though stuffed with bubble wrap or tissue paper. The cane was the only real disappointment. It was made of felt type fabric and the foam inside had bent so it wouldn't stay straight, but again I just ordered another cheap plastic cane instead.

My son looked great, i did have to fold up the trouser and sleeve hem as i ordered the 10-12 year old size for my slightly stocky 7 year old. I aslo did order a different cane/walking stick for the costume as i gathered that the one that came with it wasn't great (and yes indeed the cane that comes with this costume is rubbish). The cane is very short, made of a "stufdes" felt. The trousers are a lightweight synthetic looking pair, but still okay. Purple outer coat and hat are velvet looking. Overall great looking costume.

The quality of product for the price is great! My son was thrilled with it for his World Book Day Outfit. The only thing I would say is that the cane is rubbish! We made our own by painting a length of dowel from a DIY shop in black and screwing/gluing a crystal style door handle to the top - this worked very well. I also put a length of cardboard in the top hat so it kept its shape better - it squashes down flat for storage but obviously then it is a bit limp when you extend it out - the cardboard roll worked a treat.

Wasn't expecting much based on reviews, but was pleasantly surprised when this costume turned up. Originally wasn't going to use the trousers as they look dreadful in the photo, but the whole costume was quite nice worn all together (except for the cane which is rubbish). Ordered size 7-9 for my slim-to-medium build 9-year old and the fit was right on. Wasn't sure how it would wear as he is tough on clothes, but after a whole day it's still in perfect condition and we're going to use it again for Halloween.

Bought a large and it was a good fit on my son with some room to grow - he's eleven but normally wears age 10 in clothes. Brightly coloured with some nice touches like the bow tie, my son was really pleased with it. As with most costumes I find that the quality of fabric and the stitching could be better but it's still a lovely costume and that wouldn't stop me buying another one from the Roald Dahl range by Smiffys. Overall a good purchase.

I was very reluctant to buy this after reading poor reviews about ripped costumes/floppy hats. However I’m I’m so glad I ordered it, it’s perfect! Yes on the cane is a little floppy but it’s soon fixable.My sons world book day was cancelled last week due to snow which I’m glad about as my son changed his mind about the original outfit I had bought for him but now he’s absolutely delighted, his costume is perfect!

I hesitated over ordering this for ages due to mixed reviews.I am so so pleased we ordered it in the end! My 6 year old boy was over the moon with this costume for world book day and he looked fantastic in it! Great costume, looks exactly like the picture and got so many compliments.Made for a very happy little boy and made me a very happy mum :DOh and it came up true to size!

Absolutely fantastic, my little boy was really happy at this as he had it for world book day, had a few parents say how lovely he looked in the outfit and the children loved it too, size was fine too as my little boy is taller for his age but the fit is generous, dont know if he would get away with it for next year though as he is only 7 now and was supposed to be for 7-9years

A great costume, although I ordered the large for my quite tall 7-year-old, and it was absolutely huge! I didn't have time to exchange for the smaller size, but I would guess that the large would be more suitable for 10-12 year olds. It comes very creased, especially the hat, the cane is very flimsy, and the bow tie is ridiculously large, but my son was still happy with it.

Very pleased and ds got lots of positive comments on world book day at school. The hat is a bit floppy but did the job once reshaped and I'm not sure how long the cane will last being made of felt and placed on the floor but as some other costumes I looked at didn't have one at all its not a huge concern. It comes up large in size especially in trouser length.

Excellent value for money kids costume. Perfect for book day! My only gripe is that the cane arrived snapped in 2 which I think is not amazons fault, more down to the original packing. It’s a polystyrene tube inside the felt outer and had been almost folded double into the packing. I can fix this though. But overall a great costume.

Brilliant outfit, great for boys and girls. Everyone was so impressed. This will remain a firm dress up favourite. The size was 7-9 and my daughter is very nearly 6 so I would say buy bigger because this for my daughter lovely (trousers are elasticated waist and can roll up). I could not recommend this dress up enough.

Great costume. Well made. Perfect for World Book Day and it should be able to be handed down to little brother too. Really pleased we went for this Willy Wonka costume as there were a few to choose from. Cane flimsy but we had a back up one at home which my son used instead.

Great costume. Just bear in mind its second class post. I never realised this and it never arrived until 2pm of the day he needed to wear at school. All was not lost as he wore it to Ronald Dahl day in Cardiff town and he was on the news report every hour! (He loved it!)
