Smiffy's Roahl Dahl Matilda outfit came presented in a large plastic packet with poppers at the back. The packaging is clear so the product can be seen folded up inside. Inside there is a cardboard slip which shows the brand and product name along with a photo of a child wearing the costume and a cartoon drawing of Matilda. The packaging seems nice and strong and I have been able to put the costume back away inside so it is kept safe for next year.The outfit is available in two sizes:Medium: 8 - 10 yearsLarge: 10 - 12 yearsThe set itself consists of a dress, a 'book' and a newt. I purchased a pair of white tights and a red hair band to complete the look.My daughter just wore her usual black school shoes which worked well and looked the part.The dress itself is blue in colour and made from 100% polyester, my daughter said she found it comfortable to wear and did not complain that it felt itchy or scratchy on her skin. Feeling the material now I can confirm that it is soft to touch.My daughter is nearly thirteen years old and quite petite for her age, the dress came up slightly big on her which surprised me slightly considering the age recommendation given. However, it wasn't overly big to the point it looked silly, it was just a little long and baggy. For those with petite children at the bottom recommended age I think it may be worth while considering the medium size instead. I feel confident that the outfit will still fit my daughter this time next year.The dress itself looked good on my daughter and I felt it was obvious who she was meant to be. The dress has long sleeves and puffed out shoulders, it is quite long in length reaching below my daughters knees.I was more than happy with the quality of the dress, my daughter wore it all day and it remained in excellent condition with no pulls or fraying to the material or stitching. I have had bad experiences with children's fancy dress outfits in the past, more often than not they just fall apart within hours. So I was pleased that this was not the case in this instant.The label does have a washing care logo on it, but in all honesty I have no idea what this logo is suppose to mean. (This is the case for all washing logos not just this specific outfit). One day I will have to learn what all the different logos actually mean on labels! There were a few marks on the dress when my daughter came home from school so I decided to bung it in a 30 degree wash and hope for the best. I figured considering it was polyester it would be fine. Thankfully the dress washed well and it is still in excellent condition. Although how it would fair with multiple washes only time will tell. I think it is worth noting that the dress dried incredibly quickly, in fact it was pretty much dry straight out of the machine.Accessories wise the set comes with a 'book' and newt. The book itself is fake it does not open, it is simply just a cardboard box made to look like a book. The 'book' has gold swirls on the front along with Great Expectations written on the front, although I think Moby Dick would have been a more apt choice considering it is referenced in both the Matilda book and film. The cardboard is thick and durable, there are a few dents and creases in it after a days use but nothing I wouldn't expect really. The newt is green, it is rubbery and squidgy to touch. It has a long stretchy tail, my daughter enjoyed holding it by its tail and recreating the famous newt scene.I would certainly recommend this Smiffy's Roahl Dahl Matilda outfit to others, whether it be for World Book Day, Roahl Dahl Day, a costume party or simply for dressing up fun at home.

Bought this Matilda dress for the world book day and was delivered on time. My daughter is 7 and the medium fit was too loose for her. (I would recommend going in for a Small size, which was not available at the time. She was very excited to be dressed like Matilda so didn’t really mind the fact that the fitting was loose. She was comfortable in the dress all day at school (she is generally picky about dresses but didn’t complain about wearing this one) .The dress comes with the book (that doesn’t open) and the newt, which completes the Matilda look :) . Overall, a very good buy.

My daughter is obsessed with musicals and regularly wants to put on shows for me and her big sister. Matilda has long been a favourite of hers, so she was delighted to get this dressing up outfit. I was worried about the size as she is only 9 but is very tall for her age-however I need not have worried as its a great fit. She really looks the part when she's wearing it with white socks and school shoes. It has added another creative element to her performances and would be equally good for a World Book Day costume etc. Would highly recommend.

My daughter was very excited to receive this for World book day. It doesn’t come with white tights. She was pleased with the pretend book and little newt. It looked really good on and very authentic. However she only ended up wearing it for an hour as she said the inside of the dress or the seam was uncomfortable. Real shame as she was so excited .

Bought this fot world book day & Delivery was very quick. My daughter is a tall 7year old and the medium fit perfect, was even a little too big, so can be worn to other occasions. But she was extremely pleased with outfit and didn't take it off until bedtime..lol

My granddaughter was extremely happy with this costume, the photos I was sent showed her beaming . Full of confidence. The costume on, looked as good as the advertisement photo. My daughter added the quality was as good as it gets for costumes of this type.

Great price for this dressing up, pretty good quality dress, book and newt, came quickly. My daughter is nearly 8 and is big for her age ( wears age 8-9 clothes ) I got the medium age 7-9 fits her well with room for a little growth, so true to size.

I love this costume and I have to say was one of the best purchase I've made when it comes to fancy dress,the material is thick unlike a loth of the other but be warn they come up big so get the exact sizeYour child will love this outfit promise

Lovely outfit, my daughter is a very tall and slim 7 year old and it was quite roomy on here, basic but very effective costume that my daughter loved wearing (result!). Only negative is that it doesn't come with the red hairband/ribbon.

happy with the actual product, my daughter loved wearing it, I’d just be a little happier if she didn’t also find a nice sharp film cutter in the package with her outfit. Poor care taken considering it’s a kids product!

Very cute on!! I found though my 5 year old struggled to get her arms in due to chest being a little tight, she's a very slim build too but think she will only get one use from it.Fast delivery and great packaging.

Purchased this costume for my daughters world book day at school. What a fab buy it was! Lovely thick dress sizing was true and the book and newt where fab. She really looked the part. An absolute bargain also!

This item was purchased for worlds book day at my childrens school. My daughter loved it very much, however the lizard was not very hard wearing because her little brother who is 5yrs broke it quite quickly.

My 8 year old daughter loved it for school world book day. She is very tall so bought a large, very roomy so quite big sizes but she loves it that's the main thing. Book and newt is a lovely extra

Great world book bag costume! Daughter aged 7 loved it! Great accessories of the book and newt, wore with white tights and black school shoes and she looks great. Good quality and would recommend.
