One winter, we were lucky to be skiing in Canada and coming down some pretty steep mountains in temperatures of - 30° C. Of course, in such areas you need reliable gear that you can count on. Sadly, one woman had wandered up there with her two very small children neither of whom had hats or gloves. Closer to home, we often walk up the West Pennine Moors near the Winter Hill transmitter. You’d be surprised how many young women wander up there in flip-flops and high heels!Enter these fabulous walking/running all terrain trail shoes from Salomon. Just the name gives confidence as what this reliable and trusted brand does not know about unforgiving and adverse conditions and terrain is not worth knowing. The shoes are a size 9 and fit perfectly according to size. The thing that impresses the first is their light weight. Your foot feels comfortable at all times and supported in difficult conditions. The moulded sole is one piece and gives a secure grip in the wettest and slippiest of surfaces. More than this the Goretex material allows your foot to breathe even when it’s wet and yet your feet stay dry.Colour scheme is a fairly understated grey, charcoal and black which is neutral and unobtrusive and yet will blend nicely with walking trousers and shorts in milder weather. Experience has taught me that the higher you go, the quicker and more severely can the weather and conditions turn against you. At such times when fear flickers, you don’t want the added worry of whether your gear is just not up to the job. More than this, a good soaking, especially of your periphery ie hands or feet, in adverse and cooling conditions can plunge you into danger very quickly. My experience has been that there are no such fears with Salomon apparel/ski boots and these fabulous all terrain shoes are no exception. Many thanks.

Size:10 Medium widthActual fit:Length wise, these are very much spot on for a 10. Width wise, they're definitely on the narrow side for a medium width, but not at all outside the range for medium. These are going to work best for someone who's been measured and is a spot on 10 and on the low to medium end of medium width. If you're more like a 10.25-10.5, don't buy the 10. If you're a 10 and on the upper end of a medium width, trending toward wide width, don't buy the 10 medium. It's really that simple.I chose these to review for my nephew. He wears a 10 medium and these fit him perfectly, but snuggly.I also have these in an 11.5 medium for myself. I'm a traditional 11.5 medium and they fit like a glove. In both cases, yes, these are a more strictly fitted shoe, but the size chart is accurate. Just be sure you understand that for a given size, these are going to fit rather like a glove. With that out of the way, other thoughts:1. The upper is all one piece. In other words, sleeved fit.2. Padding is sufficient, but not pillow soft. The insole is thin. So, most padding is coming from the give in the soles.3. Traction is absurd. When I got these for my nephew, we trail jogged an ice slicked trail. Neither of us slipped during the entire run.4. Gore-tex is good, but don't expect dry feet if you're running in a rain storm or down stream lined paths.Overall, I think these are one of the top five best aggressive trail runners money can buy.Recommended4 starsCheers!

Salomon are a French brand that are just bout making waves in the UK market. I've got some walking boots from the brand already, and the one thing that comes across is the use of technical materials but most of all - they're light. The robust design seems to last, but with minimal fatigue from the weight of the boots and shoes.I like the minimal branding, and neutral army green and black colour-way. They are functional as robust running shoes that are used often, and in adverse weather conditions. The whole shoe is Gore-Tex coated and keeps water out remarkably.Very slim, though there is good enough give in the sides to mold to fit. The rubberised sole comes up over the natural sole line, providing mud and water protection. Rubber toe edges on the parts where these shoes normally split. They are designed to last, but not so designed for comfort. The insoles could be comfier and I would recommend putting your own in, one that has more structure. The grip fails slightly, because it's almost too studded and too deep set, that anything other than solid or dry conditions clogs up between them. They don't perform so well in mud, despite the outer materials catering for it. So I would say that these are robust city running shoes, rather than rainy British trail running.Do I think they're worth the price? Yes. They come out at an average price for similar technical shoes. It all depends if they are fit for your individual purpose, and whether they fit and are comfortable for your foot.

Being that these are a newer brand to me, I was unsure of what to expect. That said, I am very impressed with the minimalistic design combined with some quality/lightweight materials. The grip is among the best I have experienced with non-cleat type shoes. The sole is seriously very good at preventing me from slipping and sliding...with an added bonus that they are not marking my flooring. I've worn these shoes outside and around a few times, running a couple, and I am happy with the way they fit but do wish they were the tiniest bit wider on the part of the foot where it gets wider...These seemed to have stretched out fairly quickly and were not uncomfortable to wear,I just could tell they were a bit too close at first before breaking in. I only worry about it impacting the wear pattern on the bottom or making me more susceptible to a wrong move or something...but I doubt it. The quality is evident in these, to me, as they have straight seams, strong binds where material types meet, and the sole is on there...there wasn't any give in any wrong place. These are more of a minimalist design to me with it being understated in one color with just a badge sticking out. I think it is a good design and one that is conducive to many types of activities.Overall, I would recommend checking these out (along with other types) before making a decision, if you are in the market for running shoes or some shoes with serious grip.

Solid and comfortable running shoe, these arrived in a Salomon branded simple lift top shoe box wrapped in the normal way with tissue paper. I do less running now and cycle more but still have a short run at least once a day in the morning to start the motor :)After taking them out of the box I gave them a really good look over checking all the finishing and stitching which I found to be almost flawless, the design is very nice without too much flash you can get on some running shoes although of course this is down to personal taste. They fit me very well and after putting them on I went out for a run, I would say these are more suitable for a runner that tends to heel strike more as they have about a 7 to 8 millimetre drop off from heel to toe.The grip is good overall, on flat surface which is my normal running surface they held well and as it was wet it gave them a good test for being waterproof and grip in the wet, I did half mile hill running in them and although they did the job I would say they are much better on a flat surface.Overall these are nice comfortable running shoes, they have a nice design, waterproofing works well, they are nice and light and I found the shock-absorption work very well. I did find they favour a runner that heel strikes more and although the grip is good I have used better.

I received these in a size 10 and while I wear a 9-10 size typically these didn't fit me at all. I do typically wear a wide size (9 Wide in some brands) and other brands fit fine without a wide designation. These shoes are more on the "thin" side.Fortunately one of my friends wears a 9-9.5 and he fit in them just fine.He has been wearing them the past 3 days nonstop basically and he really likes them. He said that the arch support is good; walking "offroad" in dirt and grass feels good in these shoes. The soles are thin as shown in the picture; but there is still alot of cushion in the step (likely due to the rubber on the bottom).Heel area is a tad more loose and the top is very snug along with the arch.He will continue to wear them for the foreseeable future as they are comfortable for him and he needed a new pair of shoes. The sizing is something to think about though; if your feet are at all wide then don't even try these. Otherwise you should have good luck.If my review helped you at all; please mark it helpful! Thanks!

Shoes were delivered much ahead of promised date.Pros:The shoes look aggressive and well designed with great uphill as well downhill grips. I could run 10kms trail easily under 60min on the first wear and they are impressive. The inside of the shoes fits comfortably as explained (ortholite). I tried for a week of run on an average 4-5 kms daily and the shoes feel well fit and feet does not get warm or sweaty. Gortek works good on mild splashes and wet grass. They are light weight too.Cons:- the front part is narrow and it could be a problem for wide feet as there won’t be space for fingers to move or adjust.- 1 size big to actual fit is better- minimal protection on fingers portion if rocky or uneven trails- the beats on soal (especially on the heal side)may brush the ankle on the other leg if you are a duck walker/runner.- No elastic lacesSo far good impressions and they may not be all day use recommended. Ofcourse they fit great on first wear itself and look cool and I liked them.

I took these out for a spin this morning in pouring rain. Ran 5 miles on a combination of road and trail, including through some almost lake-like standing water puddles. The GTX works! My feet came out dry except for the sweat that accumulated beneath the gore tex layer. Unfortunately the fit prevents this from being a perfect shoe. The last used to create the footbed is decidedly closer to B than D, and for anyone with an E or wider foot, you can expect that this will be snug in the same realm as nikes. I actually run closer to a 9 or 9.5 wide but am glad I had the 10s in these because even with the empty toe box (i used a lace lock to prevent heel slippage),there is no way my regular width feet would have been happy in anything smaller. So in other words, if a spacious toe box isn't an issue for you and you don't mind hot feet, these are awesome for keeping your feet dry and trail traction. They also look good as casual knock around shoes, too...especially if you're out in wet weather.

I have several generations of Salomon hiking boots, so when I got these I knew i'd have to order a half size large. These fit just like my older boots. That is, I measure out as a Men's 9.5 (US) and in the Salomon line I always need to get a Men's 10.0 (US). With that, these fit me super great. I appreciate:1. The built-in orthotic with arch support is excellent.2. These are "trail runner" shoes and are appropriately light as runners, and appropriately sturdy with lug soles for the trail.3. Look great - sturdy but modern looking.4. Tongue is continuous with the uppers to keep dirt out, but is made so that it is still easy to get my foot in and then cinch up the laces to close up.Other continues tongue shoes I've tried are sometimes hard to get into. These are now one of my favorites that I am considering ordering a backup copy of for when these wear out.

Having some time away from running due to some service related injuries, I've been wanting to get back into some light workout. These were available for me to try so I thought it'd give them a go. Unfortunately, there's a few things that's going to make that not possible with these. The arch of the sole is almost non existence. It's way too narrow for my feet. My ankle rolls center just standing still in these. The lug pattern on the sole has huge voids. Great for clearing mud on the trailsI wear any where between a 9 and a 9.5. I got these in 10 based on the other reviews saying that they were a touch small. I think that they are closer to a 10 than they are small. The heel cup slide just a hair. That being said, these are some very nice looking shoes. So while these might not work for me, they might work well for others.

after a a few weeks wear they are very Comfortable I'm not a massive trainer fan but its always good to have a good quality pair for travelling, sports or just when the weathers not so good. I'm actually impressed with the quality and the design had to get one size up.Pros:+ Plenty of support from the soles+ No visible gaps where the sole is joint with the main body, everything has been glued well and coloured+ Very lightweight+ Removable insoles for easy washing or for replacing+ Nice design with the criss-cross fabric+ Goretex fabric (verified with the gortex label)+ Reinforced heel and back of the shoe+ Reinforced front so more protection for toes (even though it is a bit unsightly)+ Nicesimple design+ Fantastic gripCons- Very expensive

I initially thought my son would like these, but they were slightly too small.Having a large foot myself I have opted to keep them for myself.I’ve never heard of this brand, but having read up on this brand they appear to be a solid brand.I don’t go running myself but I do take my dog for walks and these will be perfect.A very comfortable fit and they are well made and although they appear somewhat bulky they are surprisingly light in weight. If you are going to partake in activity more excitable than walking the dog I’d highly recommend these footwear for long distance walking, climbing and hiking. Some might say they are expensive, but as per my research they are solid, sturdy and hard wearing

I recently started running and my route is on an uneven country bridleway so I needed something that would cope with that and especially when Autumn/Winter sets in and it gets muddy. These got good reviews so I gave them a shot. They are comfy right out of the box and have plenty of tread, which makes me feel very secure running across the uneven ground. I have taken them out on a couple of mornings when it has been damp and they stayed nice and dry through the long grass, which was just what I wanted. They soak up the lumps and bumps well and are surprisingly light considering the size of the soles. Hopefully these will stand up to some abuse as I am very happy with them.

These shoes have a very good outer layer, with gripping cleats that are slip resistant, an outer layer that is water resistant but breathable, and a good insole. Normally, I would talk about getting a fit for orthotics, except that in this case, Salomon already provides not only a good standard insole, they add to that comfortable solution by adding a removable bespoke orthotics precut and fitted for these shoes! Trail hikers and runners can go with or without the removable orthotics, but I highly prize a good deep step to prevent foot pain. These shoes are a one-stop solution for rough use on a hike.
