A new name for me – Dunnet Bay Distillers – and a delightful, powerful new gin. Quite why one of the pictures suggests contents of just 5 cl (= 50 ml) I can’t say – the bottle is clearly marked 700 ml. Talking of the bottle, it comes unboxed but is rather special, a talking point. The list of botanicals they use is impressive. The description talks of juniper pine and lemon verbena on the nose, flavours of blaeberries with a hint of cinnamon, then light mint and rose on the finish. I’m not sure I can detect all those fragrances and flavours, but certainly it’s a real pleasure on the nose and palate. I like to drink it neat, with ice, sipped slowly, rather than losing the subtleties by adding other ingredients.Just a small quantity, mind you, given 57% proof!Expensive, yes, but if you like your gin and value quality, this one from Dunnet Bay makes a terrific buy.

Wow, this gin is seriously strong stuff and definitely lives up to its name...it’s strong enough to warm the coldest cockles! The taste is strong but smooth, a drink to savour slowly and enjoy.I drink it with lots of ice and and tonic, the tonic being at least a 3 to 1 ratio with a citrus garnish. I find the botanicals quite subtle because of the high alcohol strength and it’s not something I could drink on it’s own because of that.So overall a lovely gin, superbly presented, I will be keeping the bottle after use to repurpose as it’s so lovely. Would be brilliant also as a gift for a gin lover as it looks really special. For me it’s perhaps a tad too strong, hence lots of tonic required, but if you like strong gin then this is definitely for you.

This is a very flavourful gin, with a rich taste from traditional botanicals - plenty of juniper and herbs. For navy strength, it's very smooth - it has a bit of a kick, but it's very easy to drink. The stone bottle is unusual, which would add to its giftability. A little pricey it's a gin for a special occasion.

I discovered this gin when I was visiting Edinburgh and thought it was pretty good. The next day I was in a restaurant in Stirling where they served it with fresh mint and it went from pretty good to superb.

This was a gift to my partner. She really enjoys it, and with it being 'navy strength', you don't need to use as much as you normally would.
