My preferred tipple in gin is either Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire. Recently both have produced a higher priced variant, Tanqueray's being No Ten and Bombay's is Bombay East. Both standard offerings are infused with botanicals and the new varieties have added additional fruits, herbs and/or spices to make the taste even more complex.A couple of years back I went to a lecture at the Brighton Festival presented by Hendricks, another excellent but rather pricy gin which was not only informative, but provided free samples including 70% proof raw spirit! It was explained that London Dry Gin was produced using the traditional distilling method whereas Tanqueray and Bombay, as examples, both used a different infusion method to incorporate the herbs and spices. However, the latest higher end offerings including No Ten use a new method which combines the two techniques so that what is different about this gin is not only additional ingredients but also what is regarded as a superior technology. The result is, in my opinion, an excellent, delicious gin with a complex flavour. Provided you are prepared to pay more, it is certainly worth trying. The only downside is that if you are used to cheap supermarket gin, once you have tried a superior gin like this, the former is just going to taste harsh and characterless. Our other comment was that, with a standard double measure, the G&T did taste quite strong - I then noticed it was 47.3% proof so that was not entirely surprisingl! Incidentally the price at the time of writing of about £28 with free delivery, compares favourably with the cost at our local supermarket. As a final comment, another thing I learned at the Hendricks' lecture was that in the last ten years more new gins have come on the market than in the preceding one hundred years - a fact which will please gin drinkers everywhere!

Gin was the first spirit I took to, and still my favourite. I remember the day when I first tried Tanqueray, after which I would never go back to insipid Gordons again. Recent years have been good for gin fans, with lots of new and interesting variations coming on the market. So, great to try Tanqueray's response to these newcomers.Cosmetic impressions are good, The bottle is just beautiful, like a shard of green crystal straight out of the 1920's. There is a minimal label to spoil the effect. It feels good in the hand, if easy to hold and pour. I even like the knurled effect on the lid. It reeks of quality. This is a good strong gin (47.3%) with a clean refreshing taste.Tanqueray has used a lot of citrus fruit with the botanicals. I suggest you try it just with tonic, before throwing a citrus slice in the glass, as you may not need it. Also, this is a gin that deserves a decent tonic (Fever Tree is a sound choice) so don't waste it in supermarket tonic.Of course, all gins are a matter of taste, but I think you will not go far wrong with this one. I am a fan of other gins such as Hendricks and Williams Chase Orange gin, but Ten will have a place in my drinks cupboard as a less idiosyncratic choice for a cocktail base. A little research shows that this gin has won multiple prizes from bartender organisations for use in cocktails - I am not surprised. The amazon price is not a huge saving on supermarket prices, but ideal for giving as a gift, as you don't have the worry of a home-packed bottle breakin in transit. In fact, I think Amazon is missing a trick by not having this in a special gift box or similar. Nonetheless, this is a lovely gin, and would be a welcome present for any gin-lover.

If you haven't tried Tanqueray No. Ten gin then it is definitely worth a shot (or two). First off, this is in a completely different class to your standard gins, and when I say standard I am referring to the standard 40% gin and not the recent trend of gin makers pushing out a 37.5% variety (gordons, I am looking right at you in sheer disgust!). This gin is much stronger at 47.3% so that should be taken into account if you generally like your martini's pointed roughly in the direction of Italy. As a mixer with tonic you could be completely forgiven for forgoing the standard slice of lime or lemon with this especially since it is infused with various citrus flavours. However,it is always good to add the slice as it really does combine with the flavours to give you a great cocktail and the versatility of this drink means that you can use it quite easily in other drinks to add flavour and not just alcohol content! The same goes for Hendricks served with cucumber, the flavour really does show. I will often have a slice of cucumber with no ten too though as it is such a versatile gin and variety is the spice of life afterall! One word of warning, always have a bottle of the standard tanqueray with this as you don't want your guests supping your newly acquired favourite gin whilst your back is turned. In fact I'd go as far as suggesting you hide this along with the chocolate stash and the grappa.

Tanqueray No. Ten is without doubt the finest gin I've encountered amongst the many I have tried, and that includes several costing considerably more. It fully deserves the awards and almost universal acclaim that it has garnered since being launched in 2000.A premium gin, this is noticeably a cut above the standard Tanqueray which is itself pretty decent. If you're a fan of G&T you really couldn't ask for better, and the unusually potent 47.5% ABV gives a full, fat mouth feel that budget 37.5% offerings (such as the much over-rated Gordons) cannot compete with. A higher ABV always makes for a better cocktail. The most impressive part is the amazing, complex flavour of this gin. I do like my citrus notes, and this has them in abundance, primarily because it's the only gin created with fresh, whole fruit, rather than dried peel. The citrus is well balanced with juniper notes, and these are enhanced by grapefruit on the nose. As you'd expect with a complex, high ABV gin, the finish is long, and develops into a spicy after-taste. It's utterly delicious, and there really is nothing better if you want a stunningly good G&T. Trust me on this - try it for yourself! At the price being asked (£25-£30 per 70cl) it's a bargain. To bring out the best with No. 10 you really must use a premium tonic - and definitely nothing with flavour destroying artificial sweeteners. I prefer Fever Tree.

I am a fairly well experienced whisky drinker but very inexperienced when it comes to gin. I’ve had the odd sample of a few of the basic ones now and again and it’s been growing on me more and more so I thought I would have to give a more premium one a try and this Tanqueray 10 seemed the best place to start as there is quite a lot of hype about it and frankly, I liked the look of the bottle.I bought it thinking I will have to drink it with tonic or to make other cocktails with but this is so damn good I mostly just drink it like I do fine whiskies, straight, no ice. It does, however, also make the best G&T I've ever had with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic and ice, nothing else,I find if you add a slice or peel of citrus it interferes too much and covers up the fantastic flavour of the gin that you paid extra for. So compared to other basic gins this has the citrus fruit turned up to eleven and that is played off an increadible icing sugar like sweetness that makes this by far the best white spirit I have ever come across which I now regret not discovering sooner.

Once there was just Gordons and now we have an explosion of niche and artisanal gin makers. It has to be said that this is good for the market. I am more a whisky drinker myself but did inherit an occasional interest in a G&T from my father. Or in this case, a re-branding and relaunch of an older marque, this time made by Diageo and launched in 2000, though the roots go back 150 years. This London Dry Gin though this is actually distilled in Scotland. The recipe is secret of course, but this is a fine drink, bursting with fruity botanicals and wirth the slightly premium price over lesser brands. HIghyl recommended.

This is a nice refreshing gin that is obviously best served with a good tonic, ice and a slice. In the interest of extensive testing having finished most of the bottle however I'd be lying if I said it was a great deal different to the better value Gordon's which I also prefer to Bombay Sapphire. With a G&T a good mixer can make all the difference so if you can find Fever Tree tonic in your supermarket try it with that and enjoy the difference. Do love the bottle this comes in mind you, very tactile and the faux wax seal and sturdy stopper are quite classy and make a good impression.

For those who prefer Gin, this Tanqueray No Ten is a superior brand with a subtle and smooth taste. The flavour of gin emanates from juniper berries and this is brought to the fore perfectly whether havingit with a mixer-tonic or it is particularly effective in a cocktail. It's smoothness is for me, the quality which separates it from many, many, other brands."You pay for what you get," is a hackneyed phrase, but in this case, it happens to be very true. It also comesin a very attractively designed bottle, matching the quality inside.Recommended.

Okay, so it's not the cheapest of gins, but I would argue that it is good value for money given the quality. What you get is a strong gin (47.3%ABV); the taste is a lovely complex mix of botanicals and citrus fruit flavours that explodes in the mouth upon the first sip; it's ideal as a base for a martini and other cocktails and then there's the bottle it comes in. It's nothing less than a masterpiece of art deco design: a visual and tactile delight. I've pretty much avoided going back to lesser gins since tasting this stuff. Most strongly recommended.

It can be easy to overlook this as just a generic gin by a big brand but Tanqueray No. 10 is not that at all. It has lovely balanced Citrus notes. Some citrus gins over do this but not here.It is more expensive than normal Tanqueray but it is worth it. This frequently drops in price to around £25 and for that money personally I don't think you can get a better Gin. It easily competes with £30-35 pound craft gins.Additionally it comes in a lovely looking bottle looks interesting on anyone's GIN shelf.Well worth a buy.

Tanqueray 10 always seemed a little expensive for my purpose of mixing in cocktails. But I finally tried it and as someone who finds it hard to notice differences in gins, I can easily taste the difference. I'd drink this gin neat, it's that good. It makes for exceptional Martinis and G&Ts. With more complicated mixed drinks it's maybe a touch too much and you might want to dial back the proportions to keep the balance right. But I'm a convert, I can finally see why it has such a great reputation.

5.11.2014

I am not traditionally a big gin drinker, but the difference in taste between this and more traditional gins was immediately apparent. It tasted less bitter, much more citrussy and fruity, and did not leave any bitter aftertaste like more mainstream gins I have tasted. The blurb describes adding grapefruit to make some sort of cocktail, but as I did not have a grapefruit I tried it with bitter lemon. The taste was fantastic. More like a complex citrus cocktail than a gin based drink.I love it!

7.10.2019

Bombay Sapphire was my favourite gin then I tried Monkey 47 which just has so much oomph (flavour) by comparison, then along came Tanqueray 10 and now Monkey is just no match. This gin just has so much flavour and is very aromatic. We recently blind tested eight gins on friends (it was a merry evening) and all bar one ranked No 10 as their favourite. But be warned, No 10 is addictive and you will probably drink more as a result.

22.11.2014

Served this last night at a family get-together and the unanimous verdict was that this is a rather superior gin. Lots of umph, due to it being a decent strength, and a great citrus undertone which is enjoyable and not over-powering. Pair this with a good quality tonic, such as Fever Tree, and you have a fantastic G & T. Also used it in a cocktail and the recipient was equally impressed. Will most definitely be buying this again.

10.12.2014

A fantastic gin! This is by far and away the best Tanqueray gin available. It's fresh, clean taste, completed with a slice of lime is perfect for any summers day or winters evening. I would also recommend this with a dash of lemon juice which tweaks the taste for the better. My only hesitation would be due to its main competitor, Henricks. It's not as good as Hendricks, and there in lies the problem.
