I'm not a Big Gin Drinker.. Nor an Expert, But I Could Be with this One.. at least in the First Instance! This Ophir Far East Edition Gin Is Right Up my Street with its Aroma & Flavour! As my Title Says.. This has a very intriguing flavour which is also evident in the Aroma when you first 'Pop the Stopper'.. with many complex levels of taste coming through. Hard to describe really, a very slight smokiness & almost citrusy flavour following on.. followed by an almost 'Tingley' peppery numbness .. not at all like white or black pepper though.. something else entirely, the Gin Juniper is all evident too.. but with lots of layers amongst that.. as I said, very intriguing flavour that begs you to sample some more!Even though its 43% proof..(And I am sure that has nothing to do with the pleasant tingle on the palate.) .. it still remains very Smooth & no Harshness at all..Apart from a few Flavoured Gins i have tried, I have usually always mixed them with various mixers.. This, as with a few select ones.. I can drink neat & savour the flavour quite easily.I liked it with Just Ice & a Squeeze of Lime Juice.. which goes well.. I Also tried their Red Snapper recipe from the bottles informative label Tag.. I just left out the Olive Brine & Tabasco (Didn't have any!).. with a bit more of a healthy Slug of Opihr than suggested to replace it :) .. One Word - Lovely! I Recommend Every-one must try that! Not only would this be a Gin to have in your cupboard for when guests come round.. you will be the Toast of the Party.. Not Just the Host. But also would make a good Gift for likeminded Gin Lovers.. Especially if never sampled before.Comes in a Very Attractive Looking 70cl Stubby Thick Glass Bottomed Bottle.. With a Red Hue from the base & fading to Clear Glass less than a quarter way up from the base. A very attractive eye-catching Label, Informative Tag & Recipe. Ornate Top & Beautiful Tassel around the bottles neck...I almost Done a Double Take at the Price, I thought it was much, much more expensive than this! It certainly Tastes that way.. Ok, I know.. I save a few pounds of for being a Prime member, but still.. I thought this, given the clean flavours, was a £35+ bottle of gin! That is exceptionally Good Value to my taste buds.. also noted it is Sugar Free & no Artificial Flavours!I can Certainly vouch for the Clean taste with no hint of a chemical after taste, like some cheap flavoured ones i've tried in the past.I Can Highly Recommend this on Flavour alone.. Agrees with me :)

I research gins alot before purchasing as I like to go for a different one each time, particularly if there is something unique about them. Along the way I have found my go-to gins for stocking up the cupboard, unfortunately most are on the expensive side but that's what comes from paying for quality and 'uniqueness' I suppose.I had read many positive reviews about Opihr on Amazon so decided to give it a try, it was well priced at £18 too so seemed a no brainer. To be totally honest I hated the flavour of this gin at first, it tasted like nothing I'd ever had before so I think my usual human reaction was to decide from the off it wasn't for me but the flavour stuck in my mouth and I felt likegiving it another try but with a tonic (fevertree mediterranean); 50ml of Opihr with 75ml of tonic to water it down a bit, usually I'll do equal measures. You know what, I'm so pleased I gave it a chance as its honestly one of the most delicious gins I've ever had. The flavour is quite unusual and certainly unique, think curry spices in a gin, the most prominent flavour being cardamom. I've only enjoyed this gin in the evening but I really think this'll compliment a curry very well, which I something I plan to hopefully do this weekend. If you're a person who enjoys experiencing different styles of gin I'd recommend trying this. If like me you don't like it after the first taste, do stick with it and try complimenting it with different tonics...some reviewers here are pairing it with ginger ale and orange infused tonics which I plan to also try.

I’m reviewing the Arabian Edition here, not any of the other three varieties currently under the same heading (European, Far East or Spices of the Orient). The initial aroma of this gin puts the lemon very much at the forefront- to be blunt, it smells a bit like Sprite. The spices follow on later, in the taste, but considering how prominently it is described as Spiced Gin, the spices never arrive on the palate in any great force. There is a standard tangy gin bite when sampling it neat that is somewhat peppery, but the citrus side of it dominates the taste. It’s very pleasant, but if you are specifically looking for mixes of rich and dark spice flavours, you may end up feeling a little short-changed.It behaves like a citrus gin in mixing as well. It turns a mild tonic into alcoholic lemonade, and adding some lime as the product suggests just reinforces the comparison with Sprite. Just as a test I also mixed some with cola, but as expected, the unique flavouring in the gin didn’t really push through, leaving me with something that tasted practically indistinguishable from a supermarket vodka and coke. It’s a drink that definitely favours very mild and modest mixers. The presentation is quite sweet, the little string (sorry I don’t know its proper name) is a sweet touch, though details such as the clunky and plastic stopper do give away it’s less craft, more mass-manufactured origins.Despite lacking punchiness as a spiced drink, it’s still a very workable gin and a pleasant addition to the drinks cabinet.

This arrived an extremely nice bottle with a thicker section of orangey red glass on the bottom which radiates up through the look of the bottle but also gives it an extremely stable base making it very hard to accidently knock over. The bottle has an attached pamphlet giving detail of the origin of the spices along with a couple of drink mixing suggestions I found to be a nice touch. The top is sealed with a plastic removable cover and sealed with a rubber stopper which I much prefer to any screw top cap, after opening it up I tried some neat, not normally how I drink gin but I wanted the full taste of the gin without anything else. The scent is fairly muted with a slight hint of lemon coming through,I found it quite easy drinking even neat as it does not have a harsh bite you can often find in some gin’s, a slight lemon tang comes through first and I could not really detect the spices initially but after around 30 seconds the spices come through leaving a warm and pleasant after taste.Overall I found this to be an extremely nice spiced gin with an excellent balance of spice that is not overwhelming at all and comes through as a warming and pleasant addition, I have tried mixing it with lemonade, orange juice and in a cocktail and still the pleasant hint of the spices comes through in the end result, I consider this an excellent spiced gin and have given it top marks accordingly.

First thoughts:Wow! A very unusual and interesting gin that I’d recommend to any gin enthusiast. With a slight smell of lime, I wasn’t really expecting too much from this but I was very much mistaken.A citrus and spice explosion on the tongue. I told my partner it’s like fireworks or effervescent and then I had to calm it down as I’d gone all gin-buff.The easiest way to describe it is that it has a noticeable tang to it like a fermenting citrus fruit.Detail and things to note (See pictures):Stopper capped gin bottle with a striking design and textile tassel that decorates the neck. The glass and labels give the bottle a distinctive green hue and a map is printed on the inside of the rear labelwhich is magnified through the gin.Definitely a bottle to be collected and displayed in my opinion.A strikingly odd but exciting gin which made both of us smile and sparked a conversation on what on earth we thought could be in it (we always taste a new gin blind to see if we can work out what has been used to flavour it).Not your average gin in my opinion and a welcome change with the exotic botanicals.Final thoughts:Definitely something to excite the palate if like me you’ve grown a bit tired of the bog-standard toolbox of botanicals. We enjoyed this immensely and I’d recommend a sip straight or in a small tumbler with a splash (not too much) of good quality lemonade or tonic.

This really is rather special and I have just ordered my second bottle, which is praise indeed as I do try to buy a different gin each time. This is not a flavoured gin (such as the rhubarb gins you can buy) but rather a spiced gin - it is still very clearly a gin, with all the complex flavours you expect, but with the balance shifted away from botanicals and towards spices. The spice is very present in both scent and taste, with the predominant flavours for me being pepper and aniseed, with a slight smokiness - personal experience will vary of course. The scent is wonderfully exotic and you can immediately imagine yourself in the spice markets of Dar-es-Salaam.I drink gin both neat and with tonic. This is a brilliant neat gin to sip, savour and then swallow. A warming drink of a winter's eve. With tonic, either go for fairly strong mix with Fevertree Mediterranean tonic over ice, or for a refreshing tall one use a standard tonic (Fevertree Naturally Light gets my vote), over lots of ice and a couple of torn basil leaves. Also worth a try, if you want the pure flavour of Opihr, but not the strength, is a splash of soda water. There are a lot of very ordinary gin's masquerading as premium gins these days. This isn't one of them. It is a delightful find that can often be bought for £18 or less for 70cl. Enjoy it.

Opihr Spiced Gin European Edition AROMATIC BITTERSA distinctly OPIHR Gin blending fragrant myrrh and the discernible aromatic bitterness of cascarilla bark. A boldly spiced gin with balanced bitter notes from Europe and rich spices of the Orient.Ophir Gin took us on the journey along the Ancient Spice Route, it offers a bold savory led gin with balanced burnt orange and bitter notes. My first impression of seeing the gin bottle was how absolutely beautiful the bottle looked. It has an expensive feel about it with the red tassel around the neck of the bottle and how weighted the bottle felt. The bottom of the bottle is made with orange glass which gave it a two-tone effect and the patterned elephants on the label gave it a real oriental feel.It is definitely the prettiest gin bottle I ever had! When opening the bottle I was immediately hit with a smell of spices with an underlying citrus aroma. At 43% alc volume this gin has a high alcohol content. At first, I can taste the citrus flavour and then the strong taste of spices. The spices taste is overpowering so this is definitely not for everyone. I am a big fan of spices in food and drinks so I love this gin.I enjoy it with no additions, just ice is enough.

The Arabian edition of the Ophir gin is amusing and enjoyable! It smells delicious lemon! A very pleasant scent! I liked drinking it straight with ice as it gives a very balanced but distinct taste of lemon. There is another spice flavor to it which I liked very much. It also has a sweetness to it. The combination of all these gives it a unique and truly authentic and beautiful taste. I really loved it.I also tried it with freshly squeezed lemon juice + tonic water and ice, and in some other occasion with freshly squeezed orange juice + tonic water and ice. I loved both cocktails! It enhanced the citrus flavour with the spiced sweetness of the gin it became a very pleasant experience.Another pleasant character of this gin is it's really luxurious and beautiful bottle!I will keep the bottle for decoration. In conclusion, a 5 star gin in every aspect. I will buy again. This is also very giftable!Update 8 April 2021:I finished this bottle a couple of months ago! Since the I have been trying other gins. I must say the Arabian edition of Opihr gin is my favourite by far! I really miss the taste. I am.going to buy a we bottle. Definitely a memorable gin!

The first fact I should point out is that I am not a fan of gin. Never have been. Rum and whiskey are my favourites. So why did I try this bottle of spiced gin? My mother’s favourite is gin, so I knew it wouldn’t go to waste. The bottle we were sent was the European Edition. The bottle itself is nicely styled and looks distinctive. I’ve only tried a small sample of it and was quite surprised how nice it is. The spice flavours give a real kick, and it has a nice after burn. I wouldn’t say I would drink it regularly but that is no reflection of how nice this one is. It's just my personal taste. My mum, on the other hand, says it’s the nicest she has ever tasted. It sounds like my mum and I are heavy drinkers but nothing is further from the truth. We are occasional drinkers that drink maybe once or twice a week and limit it to just one drink. However, we do like trying new flavours both in food and drink. It can be hard to review these products as taste is such a personal thing. I would say that if you like gin then you won’t be disappointed with this one.Overall, a very special gin. I hope this helps.

This bottle of OPIHR gin was a definite hit with my family this Christmas. None of us drink very much or very often but we do enjoy an occasional G and T or cider or single malt. I have had other gins in OPIHR's range but so far this is definitely my favourite. The gin is very nicely presented (pics 1-3). I liked the shape, colour and decoration of the bottle. It is quite a weighty item. The gin itself is 43% by volume and a 70 centilitre measure.I love the bitterness of the taste and then all the extra notes as the myrrh and oriental spices kick in. We tried it neat and with our favourite tonic. It is a bit strong for our taste neat but 50/50 with tonic gives just enough dilution to save the backs of our throats from any unpleasant burning sensation.I know wimps! This bottle will probably last us quite a while but I will be replacing it once it is finished. It makes a really interesting change from standard or fruit flavoured gins. I guess the bitterness may not be to everybody's taste but give it a go yourself and make your own mind up. A definite thumbs up from us. Thank you Amazon.

This is a very intensely-spiced gin so if you are not into eastern spices and food then I wouldn't advise you to get it. However, the very special taste of this gin would undoubtedly appeal to many people, especially those who like curry and Indian cuisine in general. The bottle is the best I ever had. It is well-designed with lovely textures that mimic the decorations and aesthetics of the eastern region of the world. If you are considering gin as a gift to a loved one then this bottle will definitely do the job perfectly. It is indeed fancy, distinctive and well-designed.This gin contains 40% ABV. This is unusual as most of my gins have around 34-37. Thanks to the spicy flavours and the mixture of tastes used in this gin,I didn't even feel the intense alcohol taste as the spices outweigh it.Overall, rich in spices and flavours with distinctive taste and mouth-warming effect. Very convenient fore cold days.It is advised to use this as part of a recipe that includes tomato juice. I still didn't give it a try but will update if I do.

This is definitely the most unusual drink I've ever tasted, I have quite a Gin collection of various flavours but had never seen or heard of a spiced one so was keen to try. I enjoy spiced Rum so wondered if it would work as a Gin equivalent. The presentation of this Gin is phenomenal, the beautiful Eastern colours, the pretty cord around the neck of the bottle, you immediately feel like you're holding something very special.Taste wise on it's own it was a little too spiced for me, the flavour of the Gin and the spices was a little unusual for my liking, though my partner really enjoyed it on it's own. Mixed with Tonic, that flavour then overpowers the spices a little more and makes it more of a Festive G&T which I enjoyed much more and we also mixed this with Ginger Beer and I think this is my preferred mix as the Ginger Beer flavours compliment the existing spice flavours and makes it very drinkable.Recommended for an unusual spiced Gin experience, definitely for Christmas when you tend to have more spiced drinks, it's very warming.

I ordered the Opihr Spiced Gin - Arabian Edition - Sugar Free and Zero Artificial Flavouring, 70 cl.I was really excited to try this gin when I ordered it. Lidl sell the original version of this and its really nice, so I thought this would be a nice addition for Christmas. When I first tried it I was not a fan of this flavour at all. I like to have strawberries in my gin and when mixed with this, it was way too sweet. Once I tried it without strawberries, it wasn't actually too bad. It has a very strong citrus flavour to it, I would definitely say for me, more citrus than spice. A lot of a lemon and orange taste which is smooth and the after flavour is not too bad.The bottle itself is really nice and would look great as a gift for someone. If you like a strong citrus gin, then this is definitely for you. I would definitely explore with different types of tonic to get the desired flavour you want, I used schweppes tonic and personally for me, it was a little too much, this might be much nice with maybe a fever tree tonic instead.

Fabulous addition for the Gin shelf. This beautifully bottled spiced Gin that combines notes of burned orange and bitter notes. Surprisingly sugar free, which helps with the old calorie count. It is actually very pleasant with ice and a good quality Indian tonic.Make no mistake, the claims of this being a bold gin are accurate. In fact, I would suggest that this stretches the comfort zone of the safety net of us dry London Gin drinkers like to firmly reside in, and forces us to consider something a bit more, well, jazzy.Don’t worry though, it is a smooth ride with a perfectly balanced experience – phew! Very clean, even with the smoky notes which can sometimes be overpowering. Not the case here.I’m pleased to see that the bottle has had some attention, too. With the current resurgence of home bars and pub sheds, more of our bottles are proudly on display rather than shoved at the back of the cereal cupboard, just left of the Bran flakes (no chance of the kids going near them).Overall, a triumph. 100% worth a try.

I am so pleased that I decided to absolutely devour this delicious bottle of Gin for the new year. It is by far on of the better gins that I have tried and this is thanks to the rich flavour the smooth rounded London gin provides, accompanied by the lovely citrus taste. I found that this drunk worked wonders with tonic/soda water/lemonade. Though I will be trying some more ‘exotic’ mixes and update you all on any that work well.I also love how the subtle spice of the peppercorns come hand in hand with the citrus of the lemons . An unusual yet sublime combination in a gin. So if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, I would highly recommend getting your hands on a bottle of Ophir Arabian Edition.I love the bottle too, the knitted tag on the neck of the bottle is a nice touch that adds a sense of premium in my opinion. Hence could make for a nice gift for any gin lover! ;)Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! :)
