As a gin lover and someone who's Ex Royal Navy, I felt I had to try it. I read a bit about it first and was fascinated to find out that the 57% strength is significant because apparently that's what it would need to be if it were to be spilled on the gunpowder and for that gunpowder to still ignite!!Well I don't remember ever spilling a barrel of gin on the gunpowder but then I didn't join until 1986 so that's probably why.Anyhow, on to the taste which can only be described as beautifully pure and very, very warming. From the first smell to the last lingering (but very clean) finish there is an obvious aroma of fresh, strong lemons. It is what other gins aspire to be like and is now my unequalled favourite.I was lucky enough to get it in a lightning deal (sold out in a handful of minutes) at a fraction over £20, to be honest though I'd have no hesitation in buying more at the usual price at whatever that happens to be at the time. I will decant about half to sip SLOWLY and (with the other half) look forward to making what could well be one of the finest damson or sloe gins there has ever been. 5 star rating with no hesitation whatsoever.

As a would-be degenerate, I've tried several brands of mothers' ruin, from the apparently common (Lidl, surprisingly zesty and good) to the more refined (Hendricks, a personal favourite), and various concoctions in between. None have been quite like Hayman's Royal Dock Navy Strength Gin. Flavour-wise, it's fairly smooth, neither bright and zesty nor particularly floral; but it is unmistakeably gin... gin that will knock your socks off with its gin-ness. A double measure of this stuff would tank up a sailor 'til dawn, which I suspect is the general idea. As the government says: Enjoy responsibly. As this review might indicate, I'm failing to do so.

Woof! I say! A gin to warm the cockles of your heart and probably strip them clean too. Now I like gin to taste of gin- not flowers or perfume, this is the ginniest gin I've ever had. In fact it's GIN with a capital G. Beautiful with Fevertree (I usually take a G 'n' t with Schweppes), good with other tonics. My new favourite, I'm only sad I'm at the end of the bottle but being the optimist I can see more bottles of this in my future.

Possibly the finest gin I have ever tasted, with the exception of Plymouth, Hendricks, Caorunn and Langleys. It really wouldn't surprise me to discover that Nelson himself drank this drink prior to Trafalgar. Since tasting this fine tipple my performance at work has soared, I have become the most popular man in my household and I achieve 10 mpg more from my motor vehicle (Audi DIESEL).Buy it now - it WILL change your life.

Every Gin Lover should at least try a bottle of this in spite of its high alcohol level it is very smooth with a wonderful taste I drink it with fever tree tonic and if I could afford it I would have it as my main Gin instead of as a treat

Bought as a present for a relative who enjoys Gin. It is a brand I had not seen in supermarkets etc, so a little experiment, and awaiting comments from relative.

Very nice tasting, extra strength gin. Was lovely with tonic and wedge of lime and ice sipping in the sun.

One of my favourites. A really good, strong flavour but does somewhat spoil you for other gins.
