I am a 40 something with two children of 14 and 6. As a child I loathed maths and everything to do with it. I had some sort of mental block and I may as well have had a page of mandarin put in front of me as a page of arithmetic. After leaving school I avoided anything to do with figures and and my inability to do the simplest calculation has become somewhat of a joke with family & work colleagues None of this bothered me in the least until my kids started struggling with maths (must take after me!)and I wanted to help them - husband of no use as has no patience and cannot understand why they struggle whereas I have a lot of sympathy. I originally bought this game to help my son - he is addicted to video games but unfortunately this passed him by.I have now resurrected it for my 6 year old daughter. She loves it and will play it for quite a stretch and I have noticed an improvement in her maths and an increase in confidence (although to be fair we have been working on maths other than the game so it may only be due in part to this). However, this biggest surprise is this time around I thought I would have a go (I have a bit of an aversion to video games as well as maths!) and to my surprise I found it completely addictive. I religiously do my daily test and loads of the practice and for the first time in 40 odd years I am actually enjoying doing maths. I can actually see a significant improvement in my mental maths and this in turn is helping me help my daughter. The one frustrating thing is that the game will not recognize the number 14 - I have to input it several times on occasions which is really irritating as it messes my times up! I think this is great for kids - although from my experience it might not grab the attention of all of them. If, as an adult, you are reasonable with the basics then it will not be a challenge but for for adults who have perhaps struggled with basic maths over the years - and talking to friends, particularly female ones - this is by no means uncommon, then this is great.

My 7 year old son and I do the Daily Test on the Maths Training nearly every day. Although they are very easy for an adult, it is good practice and fun to try to do the test as quickly as possible. It is ideal math practice for my 7 year old son, enabling him to practice a little math in less than 5 minutes, starting easy and gradually getting more challenging. He also does Practice Exercises occassionally to reinforce the math he is learning at school, for example a specific number in the times tables. He was reluctant to play Maths Training at first (after all, it isn't exactly Pokemon) but when I joined in and sat next to him at first for a bit of encouragement and help if he got frustrated,he started to enjoy doing this for a few minutes most days.My 5 year daughter is not quite ready to use this for learning, although she wants to. When she has a better understanding of adding and subtracting numbers to 10 she will be able to start using this to practice and improve.I would recommend this for children above age 6 as a way to practice, improve and enjoy a bit of daily maths including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and for adults wishing to brush up on these areas.

I bought this game because I was struggling to help my daughter with maths homework. I have finished school 30 years ago! I figured as my daughter loves her ds this game would fit in well. I also have a private tutor once a week, and she thought this game was a great idea and would benefit all children of Primary school age. She was appalled that schools are not teaching kids their times tables like they used to. When they do they;re only teaching up to tens, not twelves like we used to.This game demonstrates maths like it used to be taught. Same techniques for add, subtraction and multiplication are used in this game. What a relief! These days they teach kids 4 different ways of calculating sums hoping that at least one method will sink in.Success rates are low in our schools. So I would recommend this game 100 per cent. I dont feel like I;m bullying her to get it done because she loves her ds. Have to agree with previous statements made about game not recognising certain numbers. All brain training programmes have same infuriating fault.Try speaking the colours on the first brain train programme and you;ll see what I mean. Seems to relate to womens voices better.

I think 'Professor Kageyama's Maths Training' is a brilliant game. It is particualy good for people who want to improve their math skills or want to get quicker at addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. I completely disagree with all the other bad comments people have said about this game ,but when you have to write a number on the screen it sometimes comes up with a different one, but now I have got use to it it dosen't really do it any more. I love the daily test because every day you go on and do 3 exciting test's which help you get onto the next level. Another good thing is you can play with your friends, but they have to have the game too.I would definitely recommend this game to a friend.

Bought this game as my 12 year old is still struggling with times tables. Too much reliance on calculators and kids today can't do simple mental arithmetic any more. If this is your problem then this game is likely to help, especially if you can motivate too. Simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems to be done in your head and quickly. Presented in a way that is reasonably fun, addictive and motivates you to do more and get better, but it's no competition for the PS3 and GTA4!! Some irritations like problems in recognising some writing, though you improve with time, and too much time wasted between games, though you can tap your way through.

I wanted to buy some useful (brain)game for my kids as a Christmas present. Together with the kids we looked at Amazon's pages. We saw this product and searched info from the advertising and also from the other customers' reviews. This turned out to be a very favourite game of my kids. They like the game very much and do it everyday as a part of their homeworks. In fact, my kids have said, that their counting skill has been improved (my kids are in grades 3 and 4). Also my daughter's handwriting (at least for numbers) has been more accurate, too, since she's got to write the answers more accurately, in order to be taken correctly. I'm very happy with this purchase!

I am a primary school Head Teacher and bought this game with the intention of buying several copies for use in the classroom. I am extremely impressed as it covers many more mental maths strategies than the description suggests. My seven year old son did find it difficult to form some of the numbers correctly, but with a little practise he was getting used to it. A minor grumble is that I think the target times a little too fast for many children, but they are rewarded with Bronze, Silver of Gold medals regardless of their time. I will definitely be trying to budget for the purchase of this game for use by pupils from P3 to P7.

I'll give what I think is a more positive point as most negative ones have been mentionedin other reviews. When you start the tests, use all 3 user names and space them out over a couple of days, eventually you will be at various levels and instead of just doing one test per dayyou can do 3,I think it makes it more interesting as the earlier tests then seem very easy, which shows how much you have improved. The problem with drawing the numbers ,I found you adapt to this after a couple of days.So now you can improve your maths skills during the tv adverts.

I loved this game. My favorite thing about it is you are absolutely required to 'attend class' and take the tests for a certain amount of time before you advance a level. By that I mean you have to show up at least every day for (at least 4 days in a row) before you advance. There is an option to turn off the sound effects as well as the music. You can also play peer to peer. There is division, multiplication, subtraction and addition (at least only on lvl 1 there is)If you have trouble with maths this game is for you.

I would like to address the negative reviews on the games ability to identify the numbers we write on the screen....the problem is not actually the fault of the game (what! you say) well we have more than one DS in ours household and on one DS we have no problem with the writing and it recognises our numbers, and on the other it is a nightmare!!! so actually it all comes down to how good your personal DS is.DS buffs be reassured I have resynced the DS it is not reading the writing on!

Bought for my wife, who had been phobic about maths from primary school but had to achieve GSCE in order to complete a degree. It really helped her overcome her fear of numbers, and become far more comfortable with mental arithmetic. I don't think she ever found it addictive fun, exactly, but the 'game' aspect takes away embarrassment and helped her confidence a lot. She got her Maths GCSE, and her degree.

As a dyscalculia sufferer hoping to sharpen my maths skills, I'm findin this game really helpful. Simple and with a good variety of games and exercises. Some more tuition would be good as sometimes I'm coming up against problems I just don't know how to approach but as long as there's someone I can ask to help me understand it for next time, I'm happy :)

I bought this for my 7 yr old daughter who has learning difficulties as she loved playing my brain training ( but was of course too hard for her ).She has played with this and enjoys it , there are some parts that are suitable for her now and others she will be able to develop with. Thought it was good value for money.

I really like this. It is very positive and encouraging & I found the games fun. I deliberately didn't dpend ages practising the games tho as that is how I have ended up bored with other similar (ish) software.happy with my ourchase, it isn't identical to brain training, but will appeal to anyone who likes that title.

My 8 & 6 year old love this and share it across both DS's. They did not read the instructions but found it very easy to understand immediately. Clear screens and instructions, though the 6 year old gets a little upset when it does not recognise his writing. Great way to improve maths and handwriting!!
