Fantastic pump!!! The only one I've found to work for me as it both covers and massages my entire nipple area (where baby suckles! As opposed to the entire breast surrounded by a hard plastic unforgiving breast pump (one of many I've tried and failed with).Surprisingly enough it works much better without the nipple massager which looses it uses a few months in.I prefer the focus being on the nipples rather than some breast pumps trying to overcompensate by surrounding the entire breast, your hand will suffice for breast massage! Also I've got to say that this pump is by far one of the best for reducing the amount of milk escaping from the sides (every drop matters to me). It's perfect as I no longer find myself bent over a pump with aching hands,I can actually sit further back without worrying all of my hard work is wasted on milk determined to flow every which way but inside the pump. It's so comfortable I can actually feed on one side and pump on the other without worrying that I'll have to use both hands to control the pump and maintain a sufficient level of controlled suction.Another great point is that it comes apart like a dream and cleans just as easy, I don't have any fiddly parts that require any extra brain power to navigate (baby brain is not a myth!!!).Lastly, I'm sure that all mothers pumping and using the bottle will appreciate the fact that it comes with a compatible teat.I still breastfeed without the bottle but I do need to pump in order to freeze and store milk for mixing into babies food when weaning. Also ladies... check out YouTube vids on how to pump correctly, trust me... your baby, breasts and achy hands will thank you for it later.Correct latch and pumping style can mean the difference between pumping just over 1oz to getting well over 4oz on each breast! Also, try Fenugreek to increase milk supply in under 48hrs!!!

There are a few things to bear in mind about these pumps, because what suits one person may not suit another. No two mothers are alike in either anatomy or in milk production. Some people find a motorised pump to be easier and quicker, others find them uncomfortable and less effective. All you can do it to read as many reviews as possible and then try to apply, as far as you are able, the various pros and cons to your own body and your own situation and mental attitude.I need to point out that the pump I'm reviewing is the SCF330, it may be an upgraded model of others because I can't find that exact model number here BUT it does look exactly the same.It is extremely important to read the instruction booklet,(only 6 pages of English) which is well written and easy to follow...above all, everything should be regularly sterilised and this pump is designed to make that easy work. Everything takes apart with no effort.Never rush things, these pumps are not usually to be used until 2 to 4 weeks after birth and the booklet makes it clear that the advice of your professional medical carer is what counts. The suction is good and as it is a manual pump, you control the action. The relevant parts are soft.Once you get used to these things they are most liberating in that your partner (if you have one) can do the baby feed with your milk while you go out or whatever. Milk can also be frozen for future use. It's a good product, one of the market leaders, but it can be difficult to borrow these sort of things to try them out but if you get that chance, I'd take it. Frankly I cannot see how you can go wrong with one of these - simple, clean, comfortable, and effective for most people. We used the older version of this and were well pleased. This breast pump is so amazing I cried.I'm not weird, or even massively emotional, but I had my reasons...My first child was born after I'd already been in hospital with a massive cyst, which was slit open with no anaesthetic, then a back to back labour where I had an episiotomy past my bum because she got stuck, and then the day after she was born an operation to clean out the hole... after all of which I struggled to produce milk and heal, and the tommee tippee breast pump I had at the time did little more than make wet farty noises and leak what little milk it extracted all over me. I wasn't producing enough milk, and I couldn't express enough to top up, and so I was forced to supplement with formula, very much against my wishes. When I had my second child (a much better experience!) the breast pump produced much the same result, and I was really upset because I didn't want to have to combination feed again, but I borrowed my sister-in-law's philips avent pump and sat pumping without much hope, and when I looked down after about 5 minutes listless pumping... I'd filled half the bottle.Hence the tears.I have what I like to refer to as 'National Geographic' boobs, so if you're on the large side like me, this pump works perfectly. Beware of getting carried away though, I went through a phase of pressing the handle down and holding it until the milk stopped flying out in little streams before starting again, which had the undesirable effect of cauliflowering my nipple out inside the mechanism, and I think I managed to crack my nipple, which was really painful! So, to summarise: awesome pump, ideal for bigger boobs, but don't get carried away!

This is the first manual breast pump I have used and it I amazing! Much better than the tommer tippee electric one that I used for my first baby and have been using for the past three weeks, I wish I'd got this one sooner! It arrived today, so I washed it and sterilised it (it doesn't come with it's own, so I used my electric steam one) and put it back together, which was very easy. Then I sat down to use it expecting to just express a small amount until I had gotten used to it, I expressed 4oz in 20mins, it takes me at least 30mins, at the same time of day using my electric one to get that much and the manual Avent one is so much more comfortable to use. Not only can I sit back and relax,it is quiet too! Using the pump didn't make my hand ache either, which I thought it may.It comes with a small natural teat bottle, which is a nice shape, but my daughter prefers the classic plus teat, the bottles of which fit the pump as well. It also comes with a cover for the funnel so you can make the pump up once it's been sterilised and keep it clean and ready for use when you need it. This is definitely a huge plus for me as I can take it to bed all made up and ready to use first thing in the morning, quietly :-) I would definitely recommend this product, I can see it being a great help to me and will probably extend the time that my daughter is given breast milk as it's so easy and best of all comfortable to use.

I had trouble breast feeding and needed to pump to ease the breast. My breast are quite large and a bit on the soft side. Pressing the seal on my breast just created an odd shape and wouldn't attach well enough. I was finally able to get the suction after a little practice and leaning forward a bit (even though the packaging says you don't have to lean and that the pump allows for more comfortable, upright sitting position, I still had to lean because of the shape of my breasts). It took quite a while to pump 120ml, however, I am not sure whether it is to blame the pump or my milk supply. It also became a bit noisy as the handle squeaked after few uses. However,it does come with a very cute feeding bottle and the teat made sure my son could switch between breast and bottle with ease.Note: A year later I lent this pump to a friend when she had a baby and she loves it. It takes her less than 5 minutes to pump her breast and the bottle is filled. She thinks it is soft, comfortable and she can sit upright. She uses it at least twice a day and will recommend it to others. I guess it has to do with how much milk we produce and the shape of our breasts. I had to get professional help regarding breastfeeding with midwives several times until I switched to the formula. So I guess for most people this pump should be a great solution.

With my first baby, I spent quite a lot of money on a Medela electric breast pump. I assumed that, as it was electric, it would be a lot quicker and more efficient than a manual model. How wrong I was. When something went wrong with it, I bought a cheap manual model while I waited for it to be fixed but then I never went back to electric. In my experience, a manual pump is quicker, less painful and a lot less noisy than an electric one. This Avent model is even better than the one I used back then. The main improvements for me are as follows:- It is slightly tilted, meaning that you can sit comfortably while you express. This is important when you're spending a lot of time expressing.- They've added a nice soft texture to the massage cushion,so it's more comfortable to use.- They have developed a new naturally shaped teat which the baby is more likely to accept, in theory. This will, of course, depend on the baby itself. As usual with all Avent products(I think), this is BPA free.I really would recommend a manual pump over an electric one, and this one is particularly good. I have used a lot of Avent products and have yet to be let down by them.

Having previously had an electric breast pump I knew the pros and cons to using one. One of my issues with the electric one is that it gets a little noisey and I did feel at time like I was cow being milked.I wanted to try a hand held pump as with my first born I found hand expressing easy and quick. The Avent manual breast pump comes with everything you need including the attachments to allow you to breastfeed straight into a bottle for on the go feeding or into a avent storage pot (available separately) for fridge or freezer storage. The hand pump is really easy to use and easy to set up following the instructions. It's a lot quieter than the electric pump I was used to which helps having a newborn and toddler. It's also great for discreet expressing especially at night when I would get more milk. It's also very portable if you wish to take it out. It's very easy to clean it all comes to bits and fits into my steriliser.I love how easy and adaptable this pump is with the Avent bottles and storage cups. I got this for my wife who has found this breast pump really useful, and a good addition to our ever mounting stash of baby equipment. She had not used a manual pump before, but wanted something small to take on holiday. The pump was easy to put together and the instructions were clear and concise. The pump was comfortable and easy to use, and the claims that you can sit comfortably and not lean forward whilst expressing were true. My wife also found that she could express a reasonable amount of milk quite quickly, which she was not expecting seeing as she'd been using an electric pump. There were a few niggles which is why 4 stars and not 5 stars were awarded. These were that the pumping action was a bit squeaky which was annoying in the middle of the night, the soft rubber cushion was quite hard to get clean as it seemed to gather dust easily and also when empty it was a bit difficult to balance upright as the pump made it a bit top heavy.Overall though, based on my wife's experience I would definitely recommend this breast pump.

If you are new to pumping I would recommend you try this pump before forking out for an expensive one, because I found it much better than the hospital grade pumps. The cushioning makes it really comfortable to use and the pump extracted more milk than the electric Medula pump I used in the hospital after I gave birth and the Lansinoh double electric pump that I purchased myself.I think the reason I found this pump so much better is down to the cushioning which makes the hole around the nipple slightly smaller and therefore improves the suction on the breast. With the other pumps my whole nipple was being dragged through the hole and milk flow was more of a slow drip.I guess it depends on the size of your nipples- if yours are on the small side you will probably get on better with this.I would have liked to try the double electric version of this pump- I will save that for the next baby! For the price I think this is great value and would recommend that expectant Mums hoping to breastfeed have one of these handy.

I expressed 125ml in 15 mins, to get that much from the manual Avent breast pump I was very surprised as I thought I wouldnt produce as much or i find it too fiddly how wrong was I, it is so much more comfortable to use. I have breastfed all of my 6 children and this is the only pump to produce the let down reflex for me. I really liked the storage pots and the interchangeable products. I had given up on breastpumps but ths changed my mind and made my routine of collecting expressed milk far easir. Before I was hand expressing whilst trying to prop my baby up the other side and hold a bottle. I was honestly shocked at the gentle realistic grip of the pump. Other brands and models have hurt me in the past and not got much milk out either. There is only one problem that the storage pump and pots begin to leak somewhere from the side when tilted after about 5 ounces are expressed so if you fill the pot to capacity you must stay dead straight which is not very comfortable.I also get a lot of milk so think the storage pots should also come in larger sizes. I did love the design of the pots and adaptor. I would highly recommend the pump as it does get milk more quickly and effectively than any other method I have tried before.

I should say, I didn't buy this product here on Amazon - I bought it from boots when I was on holiday and panicking that I was developing mastitis, and it was just a choice between this and Tommy Tippee. However I LOVE it! I am puzzled by some other reviewers who said that they couldn't get any milk with this product. For me it's much more efficient than my double electric pump. I can pump 125ml (4.2 oz) in less than 10 minutes. And as for noise, a little plasticky scrunch is better than the hum of an electric pump. I think maybe those people who had trouble were not finding the rhythm which works for them - for me that's one thing I really like, I can vary it exactly as needed.Personally what works for me is ten very quick pumps, then a short break of a few seconds, another set of quick pumps, then I start doing longer 3 second pumps, and very quickly it starts coming out very fast. Another thing I like about it is that it's super quick and easy to take apart and wash, and put back together.

The large, soft cup seals well on the breast and makes expressing milk a little more comfortable. Whilst breasts come in many shapes and sizes I feel confident that the cup will adapt to all.The large pump handle is easy enough to use and creates just enough of a vacuum to steadily draw the milk out without leaving redness or adding to any soreness, even with over enthusiastic fast pumping. Those who may experience difficulty in expressing milk may find that it isn't enough of a draw or that fast pumping may be necessary to get the right suction, but I can't say for sure. I also liked that the suction leaked slowly,so there was no danger of getting the pump latching on like a rubber suction pad if there was no milk being expressed. The attached bottle is a standard AVENT bottle, so it can be simply detached and a cap or teat added. There was no leaking and no mess and it was easy enough to clean afterwards.I couldn't find anything to complain about and I am quite happy with my purchase.
