Having had previous experience with a Medela Swing pump and also a MAM branded pump, we have decided to settle on this Medela manual pump to express for our second child.Whilst the electrical pumps make it less work, they are a bit more work setting up and less practical with an older child running around needing attention too. So this manual pump is a tad easier to handle. One thing we loved about the electric pump was Medela focus a lot on varying flows for different stages of milk. So you have different milk phases and the pump adjusts to that. That focus has carried on into the manual pumps which is fantastic. The different rhythm at which the pump works, first to get the milk flowing which shorter pumps, then when the milk flow is established, the pumps are longer and more drawn out to carry on milk flow, this mimics a baby feeding a little more accurately than just pumping away. The pump is lightweight too so its easy to carry with you for expressing away from home. The pump attaches to the medela bottles and some other brands so i have been told but not tried. This means you can pump straight to the bottle and store it.With our previous pump, we could pump directly into storage bags which were great for the freezer or fridge, im not entirely sure if this can connect to it, at first glance i don't think it does. A shame but not a problem. The Calma teat is fantastic too, we had absolutely no problems with our first child moving from the breast to this bottle teat and never had no "colic" problems. These bottles aren't cheap so getting one with this pump is great. All in all, this is a great pump and despite it being manual, it works well and is easy to use...

This is by far the best breast pump I've used, even better than the hospital grade electric one I was using while I was in the hospital. I was using a milk collector previously and after my milk supply has settled, I find that I wasn't collecting anything as the simultaneous let down didn't happen anymore. So I was on the hunt for a breast pump to keep my milk supply, be it electric or manual. And I wish I hadn't spend the money on the tommee tippee pumps!I use it during feeding on the non feeding side, and collected more milk than any other pump I've used before. The suction was gentle but effective in triggering let down,I've collected double the milk compared to the tommee tippee pumps. The pump action is very easy on the hands and didn't leave me sore after 10mins of pumping. The flange was also amazing as it didn't leak or back flow, which means I wasn't wearing my milk after pumping. Although each person is different size so the flange may not fit everyone which would be the main cause of discomfort. And because this is a breast pump, not a milk collector, it's designed for the milk to stay inside the bottle which means no accidental spillage because the baby kicked it or knocking it over.Best of all, this pump requires no electricity to operate and is so light, so absolutely ideal for putting in the handbag if I need it while I was out.All in all, this is the best pump I have ever used and I'm surprised it's not on every breastfeeding essentials list! If I had known and bought this earlier I wouldn't have spent so much time and money on the others that are simply sub par.

Having a child opens your world to many things that you have not even thought about – breast pumps for example. Did you know that there are several manufacturers that produce these pumps and that one of them has a reputation for excellence? This company is ‘Medala’ and they has a particularly excellent electronic swing pump, but they also have a far cheaper and accessible manual pump known as the ‘Medela Harmony Light’. This cheaper version of the electronic pump provides many of the functions, but needs a little more elbow grease. The pack itself comes with all you need to get started, a hand pump, a bottle and a stand. As you can imagine from the manual element you will need to pump yourself. This is a little time consuming and tiresome (especially compared to the electronic version) but most importantly works. The Medalas fit very well and help produce milk quickly. At the price the ‘Light’ is a good option, but cannot really keep up with its electronic stablemate, that is easy to set up, use and is quick. The ‘Light’ is more time-consuming and we found it actually worked best as a pump for on the road. It is small and light enough to take away with you, whilst the electronic one is bulkier. You could use just the ‘Light’ for your needs, but it is best used in tandem with the others in the range.

Really pleased with this pump having previously used other brands of manual and electric versions. Choosing a pump really depends on what you’re using it for. If you are pumping to feed a lot then get a double electric one. However if you are just looking for a way to relieve engorgment or pump the odd feed then this is perfectly sufficient. Personally I sometimes have to pump in the night if my baby doesn’t take too much milk off. The electric pumpI have makes too much noise and has a light on it which is annoying, this Medela pump is more efficient and quieter. I have taken off 1 star as I think dismantling it and putting it back together is a faff, and sometimes the suction goes a little when the rubber insert is wet.The nipple shield also makes my nipple a little purple after it’s been sucked in, so I tend not to pump for more than 10 minutes each side in case of causing damage. I use cold water sterilisation as in the past I have noticed that heat does definitely distort the nipple shield and once that’s bend slightly it’s useless. All in all I would recommend, it’s a nice cheap bit of kit that any breastfeeding mum will use at some point. At £15 it’s not the end of the world if you don’t use it all the time.

I couldn't recommend this pump enough. It is so easy to use and even easier to clean. It is far better than the electric pump that I bought. Having purchased a Tommee Tippie electric pump and being very disheartened at how little I was able to pump I was amazed at how easy this pump was to use. It's so quick to assemble and the suction created feels more gentle but is far more effective. With the 2 phase suction option it is more than the typical basic hand pump.It is very easy to carry in your handbag or nappy bag and you can easily rinse it out on the go if needs be. The bottle that come with it is very good quality and has very clear ml/oz markers and has a handy storage lid.Great that there is also the option of the personal fit shield so that you can get one to fit all breast sizes.I have read that some people seem to have issues with the suction after time and I found that if the rubber seal is still wet after being cleaned or has not been fitted back on correctly the pump will not work. Reading the instructions is quite important for this product, they are very quick and simple so definitely worth reading to make best use of this pump.

A really good, easy to use and lightweight manual pump from the Breastfeeding experts, Medela. The Harmony Light is really easy to assemble and to disassemble for cleaning. The pump comes with a medium breast shield and so you may need to purchase either a smaller or larger shield depending on comfort and your size. My pump also came with a spare membrane in addition to the one required for the pump and the pump also comes with a collection bottle and lid although you can use a pump and save bag instead and especially if freezing your milk. The pump also comes with a bottle stand. The Harmony has 2 phase expression technology with the shorter end of the pump handle to simulate your let down andyour baby's initial rapid sucking and the longer end of the handle for use when your milk starts to flow. The Harmony is perfect for those Mums who do not wish to use an electric breast pump or for expressing on the go as it's lightweight means it is easy to transport. Another brilliant accessory to breastfeeding from Medela.

I’ve had this pump for 6 months now- didn’t want to spend hundreds on something that didn’t work and for £20 I thought why not.Fantastic pump, I express 3-4 times a day since birth and this pump definitely helps your milk flow production as it triggers let downs! I’ve not tried the others as not needed them but I’m about to buy the pump again as I’m thinking suction must be going a bit now- might as well buy new pump rather than mess around with the parts.Only negative this is, and it’s a big negative (as some have mentioned) it can be a kick in the teeth when you are filling the bottle up and turn it to its side it can leak... it only happens sometimes and it’s really annoying, despite you tightening the bottle.Apart from that, the best out there for the price. Also no need for loads of fast pumps, just hold the squeeze on the nipple and milk will still flow- as a new mum I was put of by manual pumps thinking my hand would get sore, this isn’t that case just hold the lever down and watch you’d milk leak.

Needed to express only on occasion. I have never used any other manual breast pump so do not really have anything else for comparison. Most of the parts are dishwashable but note that you need to sterilise before each use and it cannot be done in the microwave( unless you buy their special bags which is an additional cost. I end up boiling the parts in water each time which is rather cumbersome. It is very comfy to use although I needed to purchase a smaller breast shield separately as the one provided was too large for me. - Watch out for the cost of purchasing these separately. There is no squeaking or creaking which is great for when you need to express in the middle of the night. All in all I would buy again if needed for occasional use,but would factor in the price of purchasing the breastshields when compaing with other breastpumps. It would be worth finding and reading the instructions online to compare ease of cleaning and sterilising too.

This pump should be in the list of best invented products!! The manual one is the greatest. It is a life saver. I have attached a picture of 30 min pump in thr morning. It is quick, efficient and easy to clean. No noise ever. I pump it just right next to my baby cot. My baby has difficulties to latch. I just pump and bottle feed it. The pump will extract ALL my milk. It is also a relief as my boobs feels better.I clean it and just carry it everywhere. If I am not with my baby, i go to clean room even toilet, just sit down and pump. It is great to avoid engorgement. It is also so quiet that no one hear you pump. I am having a life now as it was difficult for me to just go out for more than 4 hours.I know now that my baby has a stock a breast milk at home.PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE MANUAL. those helped me a lot to adjust how I pump and everything.Thank you meleda for this product!!! Life saver

I bought this pump because I already had the Medela nipple shield and thought they were really good quality. I love this pump too. The most important thing for me is that all of the parts can be sterilised in boiling water, which is great because you don’t need loads of extra kit.I like the little stand that it comes with to stop it from tipping over and spilling. The whole thing is very small so you could easily put it in your handbag if you needed to pump on the go. Maybe a little travel bag would have been a nice addition to the set, but not essential. It extracts a good amount of milk, which obviously depends on the person using it and the time of day etc,but if my baby has skipped a feed then I can easily pump what I would consider to be a full feed within about fifteen to twenty minutes. If she’s just fed I can still get a little bit more out with the pump.

I would recommend this to any new mums who plan to breastfeed...I suffered from terrible breast engorgement when my milk first came in.It was a very painful situation and prevented baby from latching as nipples went even more flat than usual.I had purchased this pump 'just in case' toward the end of pregnancy andI was verrrrrry happy that I did!It was the only thing that helped! It relieved the engorgement (used alongside warm compress) and also helped to make my flat nipples more pronounced so that my little one latches better. It gets the job done and is well made.Simple to use with good 'user controlled' suction.But...I would say intended for 'emergency'or occasional use.If you plan to pump frequently the much more expensive choice of an electric pump would be more appropriate.

I am so happy with this purchase. After using the electric version with my first born, I decided to try the manual one with my second baby as I am currently mix feeding. I was reluctant in trying a manual one because I didn't believe it would be as effective as an electric one and more time consuming. However this product has proven me wrong, it grips so well and the suction power is just as strong as the electric version I was so Impressed! It collects milk into the bottle with ease and no fuss. The parts are easily dismantled for easy cleaning too. Only difference to the electric one is that you have to manually extract the milk.So if you dont mind doing so and have the extra time its definitely an inexpensive product worth trying.

I haven't tried any other pumps so I cannot really compare with any others but I bought this as I was reticent about spending a lot of money on an electric pump without knowing whether it would suit me. I therefore thought I would start with a manual pump and work up to a more expensive electric one if necessary. However I have no need to switch - could not be happier with this - does the job perfectly. It is small enough to be portable and so when I go back to work, I can pump at work without it making a noise and without it taking up much space in my bag! Could not recommend highly enough. I would say I usually pump for around 15 minutes to get the supply I need for a bottle which is fineas I can just watch TV at the same time.

I’ve always used the Tommee Tippee manual breast pump (two other children) so this time went for the Medela one and I can honestly say this is so much better to work with!!The pump itself glides nicely and you don’t need to press hard so your hand doesn’t start aching, it also turns with your hand so you don’t need to keep it straight to get a good flow... I often find myself pumping with just my index finger at a lazy angle and I still get what I need. It’s so simple and easy to clean, the parts come off smoothly and go back on smoothly so no fighting with the dynamics. The fact that the bottle is a storage system is helpful too. I can pump, screw the lid on and just pop the bottle in my bag for later use.Love it.

I honestly love this pump! I bought one second hand in my last pregnancy and lived it so much I thought it was well worth buying brand new. The 2 phase suction is amazing and really helps get the letdown you need, and the suction strength is perfect for drawing out every last drop of that liquid gold! It’s so easy to travel with, but I would recommend using a container or something to keep the pump pieces clear of dust and dirt. It’s perfect for full time breastfeeding mums, and for full time pumping mums if you’re only on the go occasionally. I would just say that you really need to remember to replace the pump pieces every so often as I found if I didn’t then suction power will beaffected.
