I bough this pump because I really wanted to breastfeed my baby but I really struggled with my first one. My nipples started bleeding after a few days and even though she was latched on properly, it was just pure agony for me and it even got to the point that she was drinking blood with the milk. I bought Tommee Tipee single pump then and to my horror, it nearly ripped my nipple off and was sucking just blood. So after only a week my first daughter was on infant formula. The second time around, I really didn't want this to happen. I know that Medela pumps are used by many hospitals to feed prematurely born babies, so I knew I wanted this brand. I am now soooo happy I bought this pump. After my baby boy was born, it took less than a week for my nipples to crack and bleed again, so I had to take him off the breasts. I was however able to pump milk without any excessive pain and feed him my milk from the bottle. I have been pumping exclusively for almost four months now using the pump 8 times a day and I just cannot praise it enough. I know everybody is different and it might not work the same for other mums, but I get easily 200 - 250 ml out each time I pump and it only takes 15 minutes to get that amount! My baby is almost 4 months old now and he has not had a single ounce of formula yet! He's been gaining 0.5 kg a week and he doubled his birth weight by the time he was 2 months old and all that just on breast milk! This would not be possible without this pump, so thank you Medela!

I used the Symphony in hospital and was able to loan it at home, but I wanted a portable pump to take with me or to pump while holding the baby after feeding (I use the hands-free bustier). Initially I was surprised how noisy this pump is (compared to the Symphony) so it might not be ideal if ultimate discretion is important for you, but after using a few times it doesn’t seem to remove any less milk than the Symphony with which I was pleased, I feel like the suction is powerful enough for me but also gentle. It’s comfortable, compact, easy to assemble and clean. Personally I found the clip on the back of the motor useful and seemed to stay quite well on leggings - it would be more secure on something with a thicker waistband, but it stayed fine enough for me to get up to answer the door for example. There is also the option to put a tie through the loop at the top. It initiates with the first phase to stimulate let down which is effective for me. I would only say that Medela would be better to supply with the ‘old’ hard plastic flanges/breast shields (not the soft silicone) - I use my flanges from hospital as I find the new silicone flanges leak. All in all I was pleasantly surprised and makes for a good basic pump, if it’s not on the mains however this pump eats through batteries, so I’m going to try the Freestyle which I think will better meet my needs for a rechargeable and double pump unit.

This is a review by a friend of my wife’s who is a young mother. “This is a nice looking pump, relatively light and is portable. It would fit within a changing bag but too big for most handbags. It is electric powered but what is really good about it is that it can also be powered by batteries. This means it can be used anywhere and that is a real bonus. The instructions are easy to follow. It is easy to assemble. It is easy to take apart and clean. The advantage of having a double breast pump is that it saves time and milk can be extracted so much more quickly and you can have some stock. It has 4 buttons and is easy to use. Although you need to set it before you start because you need both hands for the pumps.Would be nice to have a breast pump bra or strap included as this is not a cheap pump. Once pumping, you can’t do much else as your hands are occupied. It is relatively quiet and would not wake most babies. It is very comfortable. No pain at all. I have used other pumps and would probably prefer the single pump as I have one baby. This would be great for a young mother with twins or with who wants a bigger supply quickly. This is a top quality pump. Recommended.

Much better than cheaper pumps. After giving birth to my firstborn I been told to only get cheap pump at the start. I purchased one tempted by good reviews. What a mistake! Using cheap one sooo put me off pumping! Medala comes with 2 sizes of breast shields where other one only came with one which was way too big for me. As a total noob I was not aware of it and keep hurting myself and only getting minimal amount of milk. Also this one have fewer pieces making it easier to clean. There are only 4 parts to wash. Also with this pump Im able to express much more but most important it does not hurt while using it! Yes you need power source or batteries but definitely a win for me in comparison with cheap ones which might have build in rechargeable battery. Now when went back and read reviews for the first one I realised most of them goes like “ its good because its cheap, good value for money” might be the case for some but for me Medala was worth the price and I lost 50 quid on cheeper one which is now in the box and gave me PTSD.

I thought at first that it wasn't that good as I can get the same volume in the same amount of time when using my Medela Harmony manual pump, but actually, I pump so frequently that I couldn't really stick with the manual and needed something that allowed me to go hands-free. This is great, the motor part is not too heavy or noisy but still sturdy enough to seem robust. The silicone shell is a massive improvement on the plastic ones, very comfortable to use. I used the Medela Symphony at the hospital and I would say that the suction on this one doesn't feel as strong but it's more of a massage than a pulling feeling which is also more comfortable and doesn't seem to affect the amount I express.Overall,it's a great pump if you express very often and need to do other things at the same time. Otherwise, I don't think it's worth the money when you can get the same amount of milk just as quickly with a manual pump.

My wife is on baby number 3 now and after trying the awkward manual pumps each time and couldn’t get along with the she was thinking about one similar to this. Luckily, a few weeks ago I was invited to join the vine programme which is Amazon asking people who share their thoughts about products with the general public on Amazon a lot to test products officially for them - I accepted and stumbled upon this to test and review. So basically. This has saved the wife tonnes of time and effort by switching pumps. Easy to use and not at all uncomfortable. Being easy to clean is obviously a bonus.Included in the box -1 x controller2 x lids2 x bottle bases2 x bottles2 x lid attachments that allow thebreaths suctions bad to be placed on the bottle4 x cups padsThe pain it saves and more so the time it saves is worth the price tag in our opinion. This item we can recommend for many reasons.Thank you

I had a week long hospital stay with my preterm newborn and had to use the Medela pump machine at the hospital to express. This pump is just the same kind of set up and felt familiar having used to hospital one first. Really simple to dismantle and wash and put back together. I love that it’s wireless as well as plug-in and although it can be quite noisy in the middle of the night it really isn’t too bad. I’m producing the same, if not more, milk than on the hospital pump and it’s incredibly easy to use. The breast shields are 100x more comfortable than the funnel ones at the hospital so I’m really pleased and the Stellifeed hospital bottles (With purple lids) I used to pump into and freeze fit perfectly.Only issue we have is that on the bottles the first 20ml isn’t marked so you have to guess that first bit but otherwise would definitely recommend.

This isn’t the cheapest of pumps but we’ve been very impressed with it’s features and quality. It’s very easy to use and you have intuitive control for it. It runs very quietly too - a lot less noise than our previous pump. The fit and comfort are bit easy to achieve and the way it’s been designed allows you to get a really comfortable fit. The size and weight is another big plus for us and it can be easily carried in a bag. Plus you have the option of running it from batteries giving you real flexibility. I guess the real question is whether or not it’s worth paying over £100 extra to get this, the double pump version.I think either the single or the double from Medela are both fantastic choices and it’s down to whether or not the convenience of a double pump is worth that extra money. Overall no negatives at all - highly recommended.

Got this for my wife after she found her old pump too bulky. The key advantage of this Medela pump is how compact it is - the bottle and the controller fit easily in a bag or handbag. However, my wife also prefers this to her old pump as she says it is quieter and its Flex technology makes it easier to fit to the breast. The pump has a fairly standard two-phase system. The first is quick pumping to stimulate milk production. The second, which the pump will enter automatically - or which can be triggered manually by pressing a button - is slower suction to gently extract milk. The pump is easily to assemble and take apart, and not fiddly to wash/sterilise.The operations are easy to master, and overall,my wife way prefers this to her old pump, and would definitely recommend it.

What a great pump! I’m exclusively expressing breast milk and I’m going on my 9th week just using this pump. It has minimal parts (unlike other pumps) so it’s really quick to wash and you know you’re getting a good clean. The flanges fit great, I need the smaller size that you can’t get with most pumps so that’s been a real bonus for me. The 4/5 stars is simply because you some times get leaks around the top of the bottle where the milk is squirting out. Other than that, it’s honestly a great buy and worth the money. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to express, either exclusively or occasionally. I’ve used both the Tommee Tippee manual and electric pump, the MAM manual pump, the lansinoh manual pump and the Haakaa silicone pump but this one trumps them all.

This is a very expensive breast pump, there is no doubt about that, but it is excellent quality and built to last. The pump is a double action pump, so you can pump from both breasts at the same time, which is also a great time saver! The controls are easy to use, with a power on/off button, start pump button and a plus or minus pump strength. The suction cups are very soft and comfortable, almost moulding to the shape of your breast as it pumps. he pumps have two milk storage bottles with lids, which have fluid oz measurements... these are US measurements however, which vary from UK fluid oz, so you need to do a conversion when preparing your bottles for a feed, so you know you have the right amount of milk.It is also relatively quiet to use.

If you need to keep the milk flowing, this is a great product. It is efficient, easy to use (instructions are plainly provided in the box) and as you can express from both sides at the same time it is quicker too. It is also small. Because of this, it is very easy to take with you in the changing bag and because it can be powered by both mains and batteries you don't need to worry about power supply. Because it so initiative to use with no long drawn out set-up, it doesn't take long to get the job done. The unit feels well made too and is a nice colour as well. It is so much better than the old hand pump units you could get and far more efficient. There is very little to criticise with this product,it is very, very good.

Great product, does the job! I had to purchase it urgently due to mastitis and my baby not feeding from one breast. This pump helped me to ged rid of the lumps and pump the milk as my baby got used to bottle and sometimes refuses to breastfeed, so i always have some extracted milk for her. However, yesterday while trying to pump, I felt that the suction was not as strong as usual:( tried a couple of times, but couldn’t extract any milk anymore:( had to send my husband to buy me a new one..still got the same pump, as I was happy for how it worked for a month, not sure how to get a refund for the first one since I got it through ebay and not through medela directly....to sum ip,great product if it lasts long..

Absolutely brilliant. I hadn’t heard of Medela before using one of their pumps in hospital. My little boy was premature and unable to latch so when we left hospital we rented a hospital grade Medela Symphony but it proved expensive. Decided to try the Medela Swing in the Black Friday Deal. So happy we did! The suction is just as strong as the Symphony and is battery powered with a belt clip. Expressing was becoming a chore especially in the middle of the night being hooked up to a large electric pump. I bought a handsfree expressing bra too so now can be completely mobile and double pump. Would highly recommend. My only issue was that the description says that it includes a Calma Solitaire which it does not.

For many years I have only ever used Medela with our babies. Medela was loved by and recommended by my very first midwife.I had a complicated labour followed by a traumatic birth. This magical twin electric pump that replicates baby was perfect for me as I needed something that felt natural and easy as the first three weeks were incredibly difficult for me, having to stay in hospital for my slow and difficult recovery.I love the soft oval shaped flexible shields, they've come a long way since my first Medela pump. They fit around any shape and allow you to move about whilst extracting as the pump has a 'swing mechanism'so it's so comfortable to continue with your workload if you need to.Medela do a
