SummaryAwarded “Gold Best in Class” in the Worldwide Gin 40% category at the International Wines & Spirits Competition 2011 and Looking much more expensive than it is – apparently one of the most gifted gins on Amazon. High praise indeed. Personally I’d opt for Bloom instead; but this is a worthy purchase and great option within the sub £20 range!Full ReviewUndoubtedly this is a very classic gin with little in the way of unique ingredients; the ingredients nicely and clearly listed on the front of the smart and sophisticated bottle in a vertical fashion. Offering a sweet, smooth juniper-heavy aroma; the palette produced a medium-to-heavy juniper taste with little harshness.Ideally served as a Gin & Tonic mixer finished off with a lime zest or lemon garnish to bring out the citrus flavors. No “special” tonic required for additional botanical flavors as the gin itself has this covered; It’s refreshing, clean and smooth. Whilst this represents really good value, personally, my money still goes to the Bloom at £20 as I prefer the favors and end product though.

Remember when Gin used to taste like Bitter Aloes or sucking on a bottle of Aftershave? Well now that has all changed...I've been a fan of Penderyn Whiskey for some time and when I had the chance to taste this I was initially going to give it a wide berth but I'm glad I didn't. What a surprise...An explosion of flavours flood the mouth without that normal bitter juniper berry taste. The aromatic excitement of the nasal passages brings forth even more dynamic notes of coriander & spicy cinnamon with a final swansong of nutmeg & citrus.Drunk with traditional tonic or better still with lemonade & a generous amount of ice, this gin is equally at home with either for a refreshing summer drink but unlike other gins can be enjoyed on its own over ice.The ingredients are displayed vertically on the bottle just in case you have trouble distinguishing every morsel of flavour. For those gin drinkers this is the new flavour...for those none gin drinkers, it's time you started...

This one of several reviews I will be doing of various gins.I have something of a gin habit and rather geekily score gins for both g&t and martini on a spreadsheet (I mix 1:5 with a twist of lemon, well I don't mix it myself thats what husbands are for ) . I score out of ten and I give my go to gin (Bombay London) a 5 out of 10 to act as a baseline to judge against. We score more than once so I get an idea of how they taste over different times and occasions. Please remember these scores are personal and what I like you might not.So on to Brecon Special ReserveG&T 5/10Martini 5/10This gin was recommended to us by my Welsh mother in law. The G and T is very nice.It is one of the sweeter gins and is very smooth in the martini. However, whilst it is a good price for a boutique gin there are other gins in this price bracket that we feel are better. For this reason whilst we don't regret buying this gin it hasn't made it onto our buy again list.

We buy a lot of gin, but mentally struggle if we pay £30. So we like sub £20 gins (mainly because we like gin) and like to try different ones. We also buy lots of on offer gins. We love Ophir, BombaySapphire, Whitely Neil’s and Tanquary, when we splash out we buy blooms and Tarquins (only on sale). So we found Brecon, on offer, and what a wonderful gin it is. Definitely tastes like an expensive gin. Light, with a gentle flavour of botanicals, but packs a punch, stunning bottle (aren’t they all). Can highly recommend. Will be buying more (oh, I’ve seen a comment about the height of the bottle and it not fitting into a cupboard. That is, indeed true. It definitely doesn’t fit into a sideboard cupboard, only a kitchen one. Minor point. I suspect a woman wasn’t involved in its design.

This tastes like a classic L ondon style gin in that it has Juniper to the front. You can really taste notes from the other ingredients - I could taste coriander and something vaguely orangey- which was particularly delicious for me.It is not too lemony -like a Gordon's style gin, and is more comparable to sixsmith, but cleaner tasting. It goes particularly well with Fevertree tonic - indian tonic or cucumber tonic. My mother, who likes sweeter drinks, enjoyed it with Fevertree Mediterranean tonic. The gin does not need a slice of citrus fruit, but it always looks nice.I have tried this one and the more the Brecon Botanicals but i favour this one and find the BB a bit too blousey tasting, and with too much alcohol (43%).

This Gin is nothing like I've tasted before. Gone are the Intensely perfumed, Juniper tart flavours of normal Gins. This tipple bring a more subtle aromatic & spiced infusion to the pallet. A Gin that you can drink neat over ice or a splash of 7Up to make a longer drink is recommended. But whatever you do, do NO drown this liquor with Tonic Water...it would be a Cocktail murder. Let the flavours speak for themselves & sit back whilst the spices tingle your senses. Bought 2 bottles & the packaging was awesome...no way were these going to break, even if air freighted & dropped without a parachute.Thought the only good thing to come out of Wales was the Severn Bridge but now I'm changing my opinion on that...

We had family visiting, and they enjoy a G&T of an evening... I had a little Hendriks left, but saw the Brecon and - as one family member is of Welsh extraction, and despite he normally enjoying a Hendriks, I decided to try the Brecon. Well, I can safely say the Brecon is more than a worthy peer to Hendriks and other gins that have a less common set of botanicals and aromatics. The Brecon is smooth and, complex of taste, but also clean and zingy. And, at £18 and free Prime delivery, an absolute bargain. I'm ordering another bottle straight away.

Was looking for some new and 'tasty' Gins for my wife to try (Christmas present) as she's had Bombay Sapphire, Bristol, London and lots of others 'off the shelf' but fancied trying some different and less well known ones from smaller distilleries - very pleased with this - great write up from other satisfied drinkers, and lots of notes highlighting the different ingredients from the makers.......Such a great price too for a full 70cl bottle - recommended !!

Fantastic Gin, very good value for money! We love our Gin and wanted to find something new we had not tried before. This one showed up and after looking at the reviews thought we'd give it a try. It was well worth the purchase. Very smooth to drink, not to overpowering and goes really well with tonic and lime. You can tell the difference between this and cheaper gins so if you're in doubt whether spending a little more is worth it - my view is yes it is!

I bought a bottle of this gin for Christmas and absolutely loved so bought 2 more. This is one of the cleanest smooth Gin's we have had, and at this price a bargain. Pour over ice in a large stemmed Gin glass and add either cucumber or if you dare, a slice of fresh chilli makes for a very interestingly spiced drink. One tip, don't use cheap supermarket tonic this Gin deserves something better. We will definitely buy this Gin again.

A cheap and very cheerful gin. This gin has recently became quite popular, now being sold in some of the larger supermarkets. It's smooth taste means it goes down well the rocks with a touch of tonic water. Five stars due to the combination of a low price and great quality.Highly recommended, especially when on offer. And of course - it's produced in the UK. Always a bonus to support local distilleries.

I'm a gin drinker. Tanqueray is my starting point but I love to try new gin. There has been a flurry of new gin's appearing in England recently so when a Michelin Star restaurant in Wales suggest I try Brecon I accepted the challenge. Now I must say at this point I was cautious as I find most of the new gin either harsh or badly flavoured. Brecon, however, was a revelation, balanced and elegant.

I'm not a gin drunker myself but the other half was very impressed and so were her girl friends. Doubly impressed when they found out the price. They all agreed that it would be hard to get a better Gin at this price. Sorry can't tell you what it tastes like just got their reactions and comments to go on. Suffice it to say I am now flavour of the month for finding this for them.

Without wanting to sound like an alcoholic I drink a lot of gin and have tried many of the new wave on the market. The vast majority are more pretty bottles than anything distinctive and I would never buy again, pedigree and history counts for a lot I've concluded. However, this one was really rather good and worth a punt particularly if its on offer as it was when I bought it.

Came across this in a specialist shop in Broadway and am so pleases to find it on Amazon (and cheaper). This smooth gin (drunk with good quality tonic water, ice and a slice of lime) is absolutely delicious. Smooth, without the (petrol) fumes that some big brands have. A delicate but also robust drink. Can't wait to try some cocktails with this
