I had booked to climb Snow Mountain in Taiwan including two nights in huts. The 30L sack I had taken wasn't big enough. After some research online and browsing local stores I decided on the Osprey Talon 44L. This turned out to be ideal for the trip. I carried 15kg up over 2000m in comfort. The sack itself is very light and hence adds little to the trekking/climbing weight. Key features I liked.1. bottom zippered access allows you to get at the bottoms of the sack without emptying everything out.2. initially dubious about lack of padding on the harness but provided a comfortable carry3. loved the water storage facility between the harness and the back of the pack. Genius idea and works well in practice.kept a smaller flask in a side pocket and topped it up from a bag stored here. Hence not wasting in bag storage space.4. loved the very stretchy side pockets and the way you can access them from above or the side for a water bottle. Also the fact you can rely on the elastic to hold things there or use the straps to secure them5. the air/ventilation feature on the harness works well6. like the fact the harness is adjustable without adding weight to complexity to the bag7. top access is nice and large (unlike previous sacks) and the way it opens and closes is brill. It also has a rope /gear strap to hold items that won't /needn't fit in the sack.8 the sack lid is well designed and has straps that loosen off to effectively increase the sacks capacity.9 the stretchy panel on the front is generous and held a bulky Paramo rain jacket with ease and has a clip to stop anything slipping out.10 Even partially fits for the summit climb it was a comfortable carry.11 no rain cover built in - i suspect to reduce weight - but of course you can buy a separate on if you're planning on trekking/walking in rain conditions and save the weight when you're not.given its so light to start with there's no need for the 'stripping down' that's some other make need to get the sack to a reasonable weight for climbing for instance. I intend to use this for summer multi-day trips and winter walking climbing in the UK. Would also be suitable for Alpine trips though not sure its intended as an out and out climbing sack, though it does have a gear loop on one side at the bottom where the waist harness attaches to the main body. It's certainly light enough for this. Overall the best designed rucksack of the many Ive owned down the years. Thoroughly recommend.

Great pack for three season lightweight trail hiking and wildcamping. Very adjustable, decent features, weighs just over 1kg (2.5lb,), carries up to 10kg (20-22lb) comfortably. I have put this pack through it off-trail (doing wildlife conservation) and it's been brilliant: very high quality.Would recommend it to intermediate three season hikers, who have replaced their first set of gear with lighter or more compact alternatives. It is too small for winter camping (look at the Exos 58 instead), and probably too big for a hiking day pack (I use the 33 litre for that).Note it is water resistant but not waterproof: use a pack liner or pack cover, please.

This backpack is nice and light, has a well-ventilated back, and all the features you would expect from a trekking backpack. It is comfortable to wear and has enough space for a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, pillow, tent, stove, rain gear, a down jacket, extra socks and underwear, gloves, my toiletry bag, first aid kit, a few days of food and two liter bottles of water. Mind you, my luggage is very compact and lightweight. The side pockets on the hip belt are handy for storing your snacks and a camera. The 'brain' offers space for things you want to access quickly. The stretch pocket on the back is perfect for drying your wet laundry.

I used this for an 8 day hiking trip and it was great. Despite the fact I overpacked and my pack was far too heavy, it was still comfortable. Plenty of room and was able to bring it on a plane as carry on (although strictly speaking the dimensions mean I shouldn’t have) but I had no issues with airline staff.Handy pockets on the waist straps for easy access. Everything seemed good quality too and the bag withstood some heavy treatment throughout the week without a scratch.

Very lightweight and as with most osprey products very well made. Sizing can be a little tricky - I'm 5'7" and thought I should comfortably be the S/M size, however it is a slightly smaller fit than I expected. As it's turned out its perfect for me; I've adjusted the fit but it is almost at the end of it's adjustment. I could probably have used the M/L and adjusted it down, but as it turns out this one is also a little lighter than the M/L so overall extremely happy.

Well designed, lightweight and really comfortable rucksack for shorter trips.I was able to pack clothes and and a few other things (toiletries, magnifying lenses, ID books) in for 10 days (I had accommodation all the time, so it was not necessary to take my tent, sleeping bag or food with me).Based on my experiences, I am going to buy a bigger rucksack (likely a 65L) in the very near future for hiking and foraging tours from the same brand.

Did my homework before buying the backpack and online consensus was that for a 'nearly' large pack this was the one...... have to say I wasn't disappointed as the pack itself is extremely comfortable, lightweight, well made and appears durable. Only grumble is its lack of waterproof cover which has to be bought separately for a chunky twenty quid or so but alternatives (non brand) would do just as well. Top bit of kit.

i'm 5ft 2 lady , bought small size & use on smallest setting. Have used as day pack & also used fully laded with months lightweight summer mountain camping gear, ie tent , mat, s/bag & change of clothes, waterproofs, etc , no cooking gear. Carries well either way & makes the load feel light. Fits well & does not make me topple over when climbing with it fully laden. Usual quality as expected from this brand.

This pack is perfect for my needs. The kids are at the age where a days trek is just enough for them so this pack fits everything we need into it e.g the days food and water emergency equipment and supplies just in case. It's extremely well made and looks to last a long time and also comes with a garuntee exchange for life when it eventually wares through. Very happy with this pack.

I’m an outdoor instructor and this is ideal sac for day use and taking kit to work. Lightweight. Sturdy. Well designed. In fact perfect for me. Can stand up alone as opposed to airflow designs which fall over. Good pocket allocation. Comfortable though can get a bit sweaty in warm weather. But what bag doesn’t. Good value for money and arrived efficient. Great buy.

The hydropac being easily put into the back section of the backpack is great it means you don’t have to go into the backpack to take it out to fill up. Also the pipe for drinking can be positioned either side without going via the internal section. It’s very lightweight and good pockets especially the inside the lid pocket.Very happy with it.

I bought this for my 11 year old grandson for a scout camping trip. It is a great size for him to fit everything in, sleeping bag, ground mat, clothes, snacks etc. Yet it was so light weight, and well designed, he had no problem carrying it. He also loved the design.

Best small size pack I have owned. I have just walked north to south over Dartmoor in late December and it felt like I had nothing on my back. With space to spare I comfortably got all my kit in and some of my brothers too.Fantastic well designed and comfortable.

This pack is light and fits really nicely. Even with a lot of weight in it, it distributes that weight evenly so it is still comfortable. Torso length is adjustable, so I think most people would be able to get it to fit right.
