I bought this for myself Christmas of 2013 intending to get my first sturdy day pack for day hikes and weekend traveling. Since, I've used it for day hikes, 2-4 day backpacking trips, other weekend trips, as a flight carry-on, and (in a pinch) as an academic bag. 5'6" female. I have an older model but I can speak to how it has held up over the years and hopefully the new models are at least as good. Overall feels: I find the bag to be quite comfortable, even when loaded with 20-30lbs of stuff. The water bottle pockets are a little difficult to get to, but I got used to it over time. I also enjoy having the brain, because I can grab a pencil/notebook/wallet/snack out of it pretty easily when I'm on the go without too much fuss. The hip pockets are also always a nice feature - I often get comments from friends about them. Overall functionality: This pack really shines as a day pack. I have never fully filled it during any day trip, so it looks kind of saggy while wearing. The brain/drawstring combo also can be a pain to get into mid-trip, but if you plan where to put snacks/water/rain jacket when you pack the bag it's less of an issue. As a multi-day pack, it can hold the basics - sleeping bag, hammock, tarp, water, first aid, a few layers, and some dense food - but I wouldn't count on bringing a stove. The brain is useful for attaching tarps and sleeping mats externally by just clipping the straps down. As an academic pack this is not so great. It's a pain to get into during classes and it's just not made to hold textbooks and notebooks. As a weekend travel pack, it can hold everything without being too bulky on trains/buses, and it's comfortable to wear even in a crowded urban area. Overall durability: The back has sagged weirdly and is now less comfortable, especially when it isn't holding many items. There are no major rips, buckle breaks, or seam failures though and that says something about the quality.

I now have several hundred miles on my Talon 33 and feel like I now know it well enough to comment on it. I use it mainly for 4-season day hikes and the occasional summer overnight. The pack is extremely comfortable and loads easily. I like the minimalist design and light weight. If you need lots of pockets for organization, this isn't your pack. For day hikes, I often use a hydration bladder. For overnight, water bottles in the exterior pockets. The pack works great in either mode, but pulling a water bottle out of the exterior pocket on the go is very difficult. Replacing it is even more difficult. There are times when I would like at least one of the pockets canted forward to ease access to a water bottle. And then I wouldn't want this if I'm carrying tent poles or a sit pad in the pocket. Go figure. I love my pack and heartily recommend it to anyone who is looking at ambitious 4-season day hiking. All the rest of my comments are nits that I have come to discover over the last year and am just passing along. The hip belt pockets are small and situated very far to the rear for me. This may not be an issue for most but I'm a huge NFL linebacker-sized guy. I'd like to add an aftermarket shoulder strap pouch but there are no good attachment points. I rigged it anyway. The load lifters on my pack are useless. Under load, they extend to their maximum length and will not adjust. For summer use when I'm not carrying a lot of extra layers, I'd like to be able to compress the pack a bit more. Perhaps just one more horizontal compression strap on the upper part of the pack would help. All in all, a wonderful pack.

These are very lightweight and comfortable rucsacs with a lot of really practical features. First impressions were that there seem to be an awful lot of straps and too many odd pockets. After a couple of weeks using it on a daily basis for hillwalking I really appreciate the thought that has gone in to the design. The pockets on the waist strap or on the side of the bag are really handy for small items, and the external pocket on the back can easily take a large water bottle saving the need to open the main part of the rucsac. Possibly the most impressive thing is how light and comfortable the bag is to carry even in very hot weather. It is too early to say how long the bags will last, but the manufacturing quality and materials appear to be high. For anyone looking for a slightly larger day pack I'd recommend these.

This is not the first backpack I have owned. I kept giving them away until I found this Osprey Talon. I bought this pack years ago and still love it. I'm a 5'3 female and this pack fits me better than any other. I can carry everything I need for day trips or for longer journeys. I also use it as a "suitcase" when travelling by automobile and get a kick out of walking into a hotel with it on my back. I like all the ways to carry outside the pack and use them. The only thing that puzzles me about the pack is the big flat stretch pocket - I have not found much use for it. I am nearly 70 years old and think this is the only pack I could carry loaded (often just over 30 pounds)and be able to go anywhere.

This is the first new daysack I have bought in 30 years! Technology has changed a lot and this little sack ticks all the boxes and is very light and comfortable. The internal frame system works very well and it carries like a much larger sack allowing freedom of movement whilst being very lightweight. The stretch outer pockets allow you to ram a light rain jacket in the side for easy access and helps keep the inside dry on those typical British hill days.Being made from lighter fabric and components means it may not wear as well as the old Cordura sack. Hopefully, I shall see!Overall, a very well made sack. I recommend it.

Needed a new rucksack for a Kili expedition, and I was very picky. After a lot of research and visits, I settled on the Osprey Talon and was not disappointed. Very comfortable, easily adjusted, and lightweight, all essential to serious hikes. My only complaint is that the cords and straps are a bit “stringy” if that makes sense in that they snag on things instead of being tight and flush to the rucksack like other brands. But all in all, there is no better brand than Osprey when you need to pack your life with you for an adventure. Made a successful summit, now on to the next adventure!

I've been using this backpack for 7 years now, although I got a new one (from the life warranty policy!!) 2 years ago. I've taken it on an 8-month trip abroad as my only pack, and have done a month-long hiking trip with it. I also use it almost every day for classes, although it is a bit too big for this. What I love about this pack for backpacking trips is that it forces you to pack light, but you can squeeze sleeping bag, tent, and thermarest in if you really try. Super durable, and the life warranty means you might never have to buy another one.

When I’m okay up in the Lake District we find ourselves in a Outdoor pursuits shop and we will try and backpacks. They were instantly comfortable and when we got home we ordered one for me and my daughter and they are very light and extremely comfortablePlenty of space and some great functions like easy clipping you’re walking poles onto the backpack. We have also purchased directly from the manufacturer a liner which is totally waterproof and negate any problem when it’s heavy raining. Definitely the best backpack I’ve ever had

Osprey are by far better backpacks than any others I've tried. I bought this for my partner, and he loves it. Really comfy even with the pack filled, and enough back ventilation. One of the best things about the osprey hiking packs is the walking pole attachment: you can access and put away the poles without taking the pack off, but they stay completely out of your way while hiking. This size fits well with the 2.5L osprey hydration bladder, and I'm sure it'd for the 3L as well. Will never buy another brand hiking or biking bag!

Not used this in anger yet but a few people I know who know these things recommended Osprey and for my purposes, this particular model. It appears to have sufficient pockets and attachment points to allow you to carry a variety of things including your trekking poles, camelbak, mobile phone, maps... - the list goes on.It looks perfect of going on long walks and far better than using my current laptop type backpack which hurts the shoulders after a few miles.

This is a replacement. Perfect size for overhead plane locker for adventure trips abroad. Great fastening for winter Express. The bladder doesn't take up any room inside when fitted. Good wieght distribution and can take a fair bit of punishment. I only changed mine because it looked like it had been to war and back. One disadvantage no rain coverOverall great back well worth the money

12.4.2017

When The pack is not full the top pocket hangs down allowing water to leak through the zip, as the material has good water proofing qualities it does not let the water run out causing pooling. It is aldo not possible to tie the draw string of the main pack tight enough to keep water out in this situation also causing pooling which destroyed an expensive camera

I just used this bag on a 120 km walk to Santiago de Compostela. Worked perfectly, holds shower proof top, light fleece, 2 liters of water, lunch, camera, sunglasses and first aid kit. Felt really comfortable, although various hanging straps can rub against your arms if not tucked away. Perfect bag for a day walker not carrying full camping kit.

ProsThere is much to like about this pack, it is lightweight, slim, and very comfortable. As it is adjustable, it is worth taking the time to measure your back and get it set correctly.Con(ish)The pack is not waterproof and there is no rain cover. This is easily solved by buying a separate rain cover and stashing it in the top pocket.

This has been a great purchase. The numerous pockets and straps allows for versatile packing options. It is cool to wear even in hot weather. It was not as suitable for my wife in how it sat but it has been great for me: the adjustable back means even at 1.95m it is a comfortable fit with good weight distribution.
