I love collecting bags, especially high performance hiking backpacks and versatile travelpacks. I have bags from Osprey, REI, Eagle Creek, Marmot, Camelbak, Deuter, LL Bean, Jansport, Mountainsmith, Kelty and others. Of all these high-quality brands, my favorite has always been Osprey for its superior material and excellent fit. I have a Farpoint 55 for several years and I am happy to get this Farpoint 70 for my husband.- SLEEK LOOK - The daypack is so well integrated into this bag (no pregnant backpack look) that my husband did not even realize it is detachable! The buckles are well-stowed inside the built-in tabs so they do not dangle and possibly get caught in the luggage carousel.the straight-jacket also gives the sleek look that is lacking in other travelpacks.- INTERIOR SPACE - Both the main bag and the daypack have panel opening so you can stuff your travel items easily into these two bags. The interiors are lime green (not the same color as the exterior) for easy location of items. I recommend buying packing cubes to organize your packing.- MAIN BAG - The main bag has a large zippered mash packed for sweaters and other bulky items. There are also leashing straps to keep your clothes in place while in transit. The panel opening makes packing/unpacking and organizing easy. This is foam and mesh on the back so it should reduce sweating while carrying this pack on your back.- DETACHABLE DAYPACK - It's great to have a detachable daypack. I use it to carry important documents and essentials on the plane and use it as a daypack while exploring a new city. This daypack can be attached to the main bag or carried in the front to allow for easier access to passports and other essentials. First, put on the main pack like a backpack. Then, just clip the daypack to the built-in buckles on your backpack straps. (See YouTube video for more details.) The daypack can carrying 2 1 liter Nalgene bottles in its mesh pockets. However, the bottles will push into the bag and reduce its interior space. As such, I recommend using skinny Klean Kanteen bottles instead. Like the main bag, the interior is also a bright lime green for easier location of items. There is a padded pocket for a small laptop (my 11" Chrombook fits fine) as well as another pocket for a tablet. Besides the laptop & tablet, you can probably fit a fleece jacket and snacks inside the main area of the daypack. There is an eyebrow pocket on top that you can stow sunglasses and a wallet/smart phone. It's very handy for essential items. This is foam and mesh on the back so it should reduce sweating while carrying this daypack on your back.- BUILT-IN SLEEPING PAD STRAPS - There are built-in sleeping pad straps on the front bottom to quickly stow the sleeping pad on the outside without taking up any interior space.- LIGHTWEIGHT SUSPENSION - This backpack has a wire frame around the perimeter of the bag that helps retain its shape even when empty. (Amazon mis-typed this Lightwire frame as "Lightwood".) The backpack harness and hip-belt are much lighter weight than true hiking backpacks with their heavy-duty stays and over-padded shoulder harness and waist belts. Given the intended purpose of this bag (city to city adventure travel with some light hiking), this lightweight suspension is more than adequate. If you need to check in the bag during your air travel, you can zip up the shoulder harness & hipbelt to reduce damage to the straps.- HANDLES FOR EASY LUGGING - There are 2 well-padded handles for easy carrying - one is located at middle of the bag for an east-west carry while the other is located at the top of the bag for a north-south carry.- SIZING - This came in 2 sizes S/M and M/L. Make sure you measure your torso length (from the bone that sticks on at the bottom of your neck) to an imaginary point between your waist) for a good fit. A respected outdoor website noted that you should get the S/M if your torso length is less than 19" and the M/L if you have a longer torso length.- MINOR NITS - If Osprey is reading my review, I have 2 suggestions to make the Farpoint even better. 1) add a detachable shoulder strap so travelers can wear this as a backpack or a shoulder bag, 2) change the locations of the mesh pockets on the daypack so the addition of water bottles do not reduce its interior space.

I don't normally do the whole review thing but getting a good backpack/rucksack can be one of the most important purchases you make in your life (For certain lifestyles ateast).I'm a digital nomad - I travel the world and work for a living, I put alot of time and effort into finding a bag that would be secure, great to wear, look good and have some good organisation (since I live from my bag!).The Osprey Farpoint does everything I've ever needed and more - When I wear it with a full load (25kg-30kg) it feels like a mild inconvinence - I'm not in any pain, I'm not racing to take it off. If thats too heavy for your back - the bag comes with a handel so you ca carry it like normal luggage - great for airports!.Whilst on the subject of airports, let's talk about the fact that this bag was made for sticking in the hold with no worries. The bag comes with this great little 'hide the rigging' feature - it's basically material that zips around the back of the bag (where you normally wear it) and hides the rigging, so when the bag needs to be put inside an airplane hold it won't snag on the conveyor belts - It also comes with a handy little ID pouch incase it gets lost. (Neat!).All the above are all 'nice to have' - for a digital nomad organization is key, This bag pens up fulls - it's not top loading, meaning you are free to properly organize the inside of your bag with storage cubes etc. Literally a game changer if your going to be traveling for any longer than two weeks. It also comes with a smaller 'day bag' that has its own seperate storage - it's great for taking around a city for the day, but I keep mine on the bag and use it to store smaller items (I have a different day bag).I hope this review helps someone out, but I could not recommend this product more - If your a wildcamper, or going for a weekend away, this bag is overkill - if your going traveling and want to cary the world on your back without the discomfort - this is it. It doesn't get any better!

For those interested in using this as a carry-on while traveling via air, look elsewhere. Most US airline companies allow a maximum dimension of 22"x14"x9" for a carry-on luggage, which is basically the smallest roller or a traditional backpack. The Farpoint 70 with the Farpoint Day pack measures 25" long which is 3 inches too long, and the metal frame prevents any leeway in "squeezing" it into the overhead compartment. With the Farpoint 70, one would have to process it as checked luggage or if you are able, check it at the gate sometimes free of charge. The tag includes a QR code for the owner's manual, but the code is inactive according to both Goggles and ScanLife.I downloaded it directly from the Osprey webpage and I highly recommend you read the manual as I was confused with a few things. The manual also explains some of the nifty features, like a rescue whistle built into the sternum buckle. The rear panel that covers the harnesses and straps stows away at the bottom compartment. There's a patch of velcro on the bottom that attaches to the hook part on the inside of the compartment once you roll up the panel. The Farpoint Day pack is like a small backpack with compartments for a small laptop, tablet, accessories, eyeglasses/keys, and water bottles. The Farpoint 70 is large, but not unwieldy. It is very well made and very suited for traveling. I just wish they made it a bit shorter or perhaps allowed a more flexible frame to squeeze in as a carry-on bag.Overall: 5/5 stars, most likely a no-go as carry on airline luggage, but great for hiking, camping, etc... as long as you figure out a way to bring it there.

Bought this because my work assignments are invariably at clients' locations. Have had to buy a second piece of luggage (this) because the Sojourn only goes up to 80 litres and the Farpoint 65 Wheels only goes up to 65 litres. Neither Osprey or any other major manufacturer with a retail presence in UK currently have in the inventory a model of travel luggage with wheels as well as shoulder harness which is 100 or more litres. (So far have been travelling with a no-name / made in China 115 litre luggage, which after 8 years on the road should soon expire. At present there is no replacement available in the UK, only in US.)Anyway, decided that a Sojourn with Daylite pigggy backed or a Farpoint 65 Wheels piggy backed with a Daylite series of pack is not good enough, mainly because the Darlite or Daylite Plus to not have padded section for a laptop. This zipped-off 13 litre pack has given the laptop section some padding. Secondly, zipping ion and off this pack off and on the main pack is faster than detach or attaching a Daylite only those mentioned wheeled luggage.70 - 13 litres = 57. then add 65 litres of the Farpoint 65 Wheeled means I will get the volume needed for steel toe boots, inflatable life jacket, safety glasses, hard hat, coveralls, ear defenders, masks, gloves.... phew. One piece of luggage full already. Then I shall need noise meter, light meter, camera ...... for doing inspections. So I just wish some manufacturer will just make big piece of luggage with wheels and shoulder harness because Osprey, your Rolling Transpoerter 120 does not meet the spec.

The Osprey Packs Farpoint 70 Travel Backpack in size Medium\Large, Color Volcanic Gray is made to carry all of your stuff. I was able to fit well over a weeks+ worth of clothes, two sets of shoes, and still have room for more. The frame and shoulder/hip straps were comfortable and easily stow away for airline check in. This is NOT a bag that can be carried on board, nor will it fit in the carry-on bin (esp. on a full flight).I would not recommend this backpack for hiking, as standing and moving about airport lines got a bit uncomfortable (based on using the similar Farpoint 40 bag fully loaded to the brim), but could be great for large loads as you do city travel (think transfers from plane, train, taxi to hotel), esp. if you have to move fast to catch your flight. The Farpoint 70 is the same height and width as the Farpoint 55, but the 70 has more depth to it, think more room to layer items. The attached daypack seems like it could be a great use. But, this backpack was just too large for my needs and I had to return it before really testing it outside my house. Check out my full review of the smaller, and carry-on capable Farpoint 40 for more details.

An amazing pack, perfect for hiking or camping, it really balances out the weight and has buckles in place to help distribute the weight across your back and shoulders and keep it from slipping. There are two front straps for across the chest and stomach that are both adjustable, as well as Hideaway back pack straps that you can zip up when not in use and When in use, fold the zip flap right inside the shoulder strap Storage so it doesn't irritate you when walking. This is high quality material, great mesh and Inner green lining, lots of pockets and storage and great Zippers with pulls that aren't frustrating! Very breathable material also. There's a place for water bottles, a one man tent/sleeping bag roll up,plenty of room for clothes and rations, everything you need for a weekend in the woods. This is the perfect backpack any camper or hiker needs for out in the wild. So much function, so much design, lots of storage and plenty of Security, it shouldn't make sense, but it Does!

I'm really petite but this backpack was perfect! I stuffed it with everything and while it was heavy and big it was unbelievably comfortable. the padding is well done and no matter how heavy the bag is you'll be able to carry it on your back comfortably. I bought it for a two 1/2 week trip in Europe. Lots of public transportation and lots of walking up and down stairs - I was fine. I also love love love the attached travel pack. I'd leave the big bag in my room and then use the day pack like it was my purse. It was also convenient to zip up the straps when I checked the bag on the plane - You could use it as a carry on but it depends how much you pack. It's strong and durable - I never once thought a zipper would break even though it was jam packed. My boyfriend has the dark grey and it's really nice. I got the red and I love it. The inside is a bright green and it's fun. Advice: get this bag. Also get 3-5 packing cubes. Au revoir!

I shopped around quite a bit before travelling through Central America for a suitable backpack/rucksack. I advise you to read Allan's review below as it was helpful for me and I can back it up that it's accurate!I think the best feature of the the Farpoint 70 is the detachable day bag. It was priceless while travelling. Any bus, plane, car, train etc that I was travelling on that required you to stow your back pack the detachable day bag meant that I could keep all my prized belongings (passports, ID etc) with me at all times as hold luggage or with me on the seat. When it comes to moving on from this mode of transport simply zip it back on and you only have one bag to worry about carrying not two :)I would recommend that you purchase combination locks too for added peace of mind. You can put one on each of the zips, day pack and holdall. Can't recommend this bag enough!

I'm female, 5'8 and have been backpacking with this for 5-6 months and it's been great. Really comfortable, strong and the perfect size for everything I need (I'm in Central America so a mix of beach and mountain climates but nothing too cold). I love that it opens up fully. I use it with three large packing cubes for clothing, with extra room for my laptop, toiletries, and other junk. I wish it had more internal pockets though (it just has one large mesh pocket that I'm always fishing around in).I don't find the daypack that useful as I carry a handbag day-to-day so only use it on long bus journeys, which it's just a little too small for. When I'm next in the UK I plan to switch it for a larger backpack that's a little more stylish. If it's possible to purchase without the daypack that would have probably been better for me.

Great backpack. I traveled for a month out of the country and had more room than I needed. It was easy to use with the airlines. I really appreciated being able to seal the straps so the bag can safely go through security. The side handle helps to pull the bag off the conveyor belt. I typically wore the big one in back and the small one in front. The smaller bag was a great day pack for hiking, walking, and biking. I really like the full length zipper for easy packing and unpacking. At the end of my trip, I stuffed a lot of gifts that I purchased on my travels in the bag and strained the zippers but they showed no signs of breaking under pressure. Also, Osprey stands by the bags and will repair any damage,no matter how long you have owned it. All in all, great purchase.

The Osprey Packs Farpoint 70 Travel Backpack in size Medium\Large and color volcanic gray is a very well made backpack and ideal for hiking, tripping across buses and trains, and even air travel (mind you though, you should use it to check it in, as it's long and airlines may not allow carry on unless its packed very lightly). The quality is top notch. I have a bag from REI, and this one trumps that. All the belts are concealable for when you don't want to show it. Lots of pockets, inner meshes, nooks and crannies. I recommend browsing manufacturer's website for details and the manual, I personally am not an expert in such a high fidelity backpack and had to go through the website and manualto understand use of various facilities.

This is a great pack, item is as described and shown in the pictures. I was somewhat nervous with the lower price offered but everything was goodI have since taken this bag on a road trip, camping, and on a business trip that involved using it as a cary-on. I had no issues with American Airlines. (I separated the bags)It's pretty comfortable to carry on the back, I'm not sure how it would be on a long hike, but it seems to be very sturdy. The waste belt is very soft and seems to get the job done as far as taking some of the pressure of your shoulders. The only downside I could find is this bag doesn't come with a rain-fly. It's an easy fix, but it would be nice if it already had one

Wow! This backpack has a ton of features. First, contrary to what I have read, I can fit my 15.6 inch laptop in the day pack no problem. Along with my DSLR w/ lens and extended battery grip plus 1 extra lens and associated accoutrements. The main back back is about 55L plenty large for enough clothes to last a couple of weeks. Support is great and and the day back can clip into the front harness allowing you to keep an eye on valuables store in it. Plus it helps balance the load some what. Well built. Should hold up for years to come. I just need to buy two more for my wife and son before we go to Italy. (Backpacks are so much easier to use getting around Europe.)

I love love love love this bag so much! I couldn't see myself use any other brand but Osprey now. This bag was my life saver for 6 months of travelling. I have no words for how great this is. It comes with a day bag which I used more than I thought but I did leave it on the bag for extra clothing space when travelling. It opens from the sides like a suitcase which is the best feature of this! Rather than having to search for everything at the top. I'm 5ft11 and this was the perfect size and height. I would say that if you keep the day bag on and put things in it... then it is VERY wide but when you're struggling for space you don't care. The durability is great.

as expected.i modified it quite a bit. (the stow away strap area....i made that into an extra chamber by having the backpack straps go through the stow away area....now that area fits a laptop :)....i added a shoulder strap that comes goes between the top and side handle so that i can carry it like a duffle bag if im only going 40 feet and dont want to put it on as a back pack....i sowed an extra pocket on the daypack on the part that is on your back to make the daypack more useful...it can now hold a 17 inch laptop :)daypack fits two 15 inch laptops....if you stretch things....17inch laptop wouldnt fit.works as a carry-on (tried it 6 times)
