Firstly, 2 things to mention to point you in the right direction:If you love Dark Souls, you'll probably love Nioh.If you played the first Nioh, you'll probably love Nioh 2 because it's just more of the same.I loved the first game of this series. It was like an awesome blend of many of my favourite titles, and being a 'souls like' game it gave you the challenges, and indeed rewards that Dark Souls does. This game is very good at making the hours very quickly disappear. With most of the country currently in isolation this game couldn't have come at a better time! The best way I can describe this game in a nutshell is imagine Dark Souls but the combat is more arcade like, with a focus on combos and all out aggression generally being the best approach. Use caution like in Dark Souls and it'll probably cost you. Bloodborne's combat is a good comparison. Your stamina (ki) meter is your best friend, and needs to be closely monitored at all times. If you haven't played Dark Souls, expect a very challenging experience, but be aware that persevering will really pay off. Finally beating that boss you've been stuck on or gaining enough experience to level up your character is really very rewarding.Unlike Dark Souls, Nioh's story is based around missions that the main story ties into. There's no linked together stages spread across one massive world like in Souls. There's an overhead map with missions and sub missions, you can complete these as many times as you like and it adds to the arcade feel of the game. It reminds me a bit of the main story mode from the older Soul Calibur games.Level design is good. Again, very Dark Souls. Plenty of locked doors and doors that open from the other side and paths which eventually lead you back for a well earned rest at a shrine (Nioh's version of bonfires). Experience comes in the form of Amrita, which you can spend to level up. If you die, you lose your Amrita and will have to go back and retrieve it. This gives that same feeling of stress and tension that you get from the Souls series. If you're into properly building up a character and investing time into their skills, you'll love this game. There's a wide choice of weapons, and fairly clear guidance on which stats you'll want to improve to get the best out of the one you most prefer. There's plenty of loot, and the menus are laid out in a very clear and logical way, with filters and sorting options to make sifting through all your goods easy. As another reviewer mentioned on here, it's generally best to pick one weapon and stick with it, as you'll be levelling up your character based around this selection. I think the option to re-allocate stats is available later in the game.If you're stuck there's a great online mode, you can summon other players to help you or you can summon NPCs based on other players. You can also summon hostile NPCs. You can happily play this game as alone or as accompanied as you like.I can't comment on the strength of the story as I haven't yet completed it. As said above, if you're a Souls fan or a fan of the previous game, you'll definitely love Nioh 2.I've read a few negative reviews on here from people saying the game is way too difficult. It is a difficult game yes, but that's no reason to give it a bad review. It's a game that takes practice and patience. If this isn't your thing then fair enough. I had just played through Dark Souls 2 again before playing this and the biggest issue I've had is pressing the wrong buttons in the heat of combat and paying for it. Difficulty wise it's probably similar. This game is great.

This is fast becoming one of my most memorable gaming experiences. As a soulsbourne veteran, and having played the first Nioh, I knew what to expect. On your first play through, it can, at times, feel excruciatingly difficult- especially when you're doing minute amounts of damage against a boss who can then wipe you out with one or two hits. However, it really is a case of learning their attack patterns and knowing when the opportune moment is to attack. As expected, better weapons, armour and abilities (soul cores) are your reward for beating a boss, and naturally make you more powerful as the game progresses. Now, the real magic begins once you've completed your first play through of the game and get access to various builds and 'divine'weapons. Unlike other games in the genre, you can replay the game on the same difficulty settings, and you'll see how godlike you've become - being able to almost one-shot that boss that took you days to beat previously (I'm looking at you Yatsu-no-kami, Tatarimokke, Magara Naotaka, Ryomen Sukuna, Shibata Katsuie, Lady Osakabe and Kashin Koji!). This is a liberating feeling and is the point at which the game really comes into its own - you can now focus on upgrading gear, soul cores, and finding all those pesky, but loveable, Kodama that seemed impossible to find on the first play through. At this point, I felt brave (and strong) enough to give the co-op a go. Wow! I've never had so much fun helping other players to get through a level that I know from experience is difficult (and for those of you complaining about how hard the game is - summon someone and let them do the work for you!). The level of customisation in being able to choose where and how you're summoned is probably the best I've seen. I've made friends across the globe just by helping them through a few difficult areas. All in all, this game takes time to appreciate. I started playing this in lockdown when I had a lot of free time on my hands, but I'm still playing it now, six months later. I completely understand that some people don't have a lot of time due to other commitments and just want to blast through a game to complete it; if so, this game probably isn't for you. However, if you persevere and put the time and effort into it (and I'd recommend doing it solo on your first play through), then you'll be surprised at how deep and rewarding an experience this game is.Having said all that, I'm now back to square one with the difficulty on 'Dream of the Demon'....

A refined Nioh 1, lots more content and mechanics. Decent performance; fps wise. Not too difficult (so far) I'm in the third area, I haven't a clue what all the other reviews complaining about the difficulty are on about. If you use the burst counter system, you almost completely nullify most bosses; however I will state, the burst counters don't always feel consistent, with certain attacks having larger or small hit boxes and collisions.Lots of gear, to the extent that most feels redundant, however this all works in the games favor, due to the system of recycling all items for materials or Amrita (The leveling currency). Many more micro-mechanics that you won't for the most part notice, unless you come across them by happenstance, or you're specifically looking for them. Such as a stat page, that shows literally every stat increase and bonus that you currently have.If you're just starting out, here's some info you must know. I strongly recommend you pick the feral form at the beginning, this gives lots of mobility. Look out for set bonus armour and weapons, these give you a special effect when you have multiple of the same type on. Try and make a build for your character, pick one or two weapon types and focus on them, this allows you to have some level of character focus, as the weapons can take a while to learn, due to the sheer amount of nuances between them all.You level skills up via usage, if you want magic, use spell items until you get level one, then spend that point on the items to keep leveling it from the skill tree, this goes for the ninja tree too; this also applies to weapon trees. Most bosses in coop are a complete cakewalk, I recommend you solo the bosses, as they can be too easily trivialized, this can ruin some of the levels. The game can be completely completed online. The Torii Gate, allows you to join randoms, I assume to help someone on a mission, that you've already completed yourself. You can host missions that you have yet to complete and join others; if you complete a mission this way, it will count as completed for both the host, and the players; this effectively allows you to complete the whole game in coop (I believe), if that's what you desire. So far it's been enjoyable, there's been a few moments where it feels cheap (Think Super Meat Boy world 4 boss), however they're few and far between. I'll update this review once I've completed the game.

Nioh 2 serves you with a lesson quick learned...."You are a novice among many masters"The game has, and will, gain a reputation for having a high learning curve and hard difficulty. Before buying, i recommend doing some heavy research on Nioh 2, or the original game before leaping in. The game does require a certain mindset, patience, and dedication. If you are a casual gamer and like to jump in and out of games with little to no stress then, do think twice before purchasing. I hate to turn away a potential customer, as i belive nioh 2 is a fantastic game. The graphics are extremely good, good sound, awesome japanese backdrops to explore, along with good voice acting and polished combat. This game can be very overwhelming, with so much to learn and customise. For me personally, i like heavy customisation, however, i'm not keen on the drop rate of items. You will come across a lot of crap you will either end up, selling, dismantling or disgarding. In my opinion only occasionally coming across gear/weapons is much more satisfying. You can create better gear through various lore you find, along with fine tuning and tweaking. This is much more satisfying as you play more and more, and become more attuned to the game. The story and cutscenes are just the right amount before and after missions. The gameplay is fast paced, with a lot of emphasis on burst countering to defeat stronger enemies. It is imperative you learn this mechanic while fighting bigger foes and bosses. Look, listen, and learn the signs to master and conquer the game.Like the games before this, Demon souls, dark souls, sekiro, etc..this can be mastered, and over time you will look back and wonder how you ever struggled at the start?A must own for any gamers looking for a challenge, a fascination with eastern history....or a hack n slash samurai game thats darn hard!Ill leave you with a quote that relates to nioh 2" Do you want to know the difference between a master and a beginner?...The master has failed more times than the beginner has tried "

--- Bought From Game ----Nioh 2 is quite simply amazing and an incredible achievement over the previous game. From more polished combat to various systems it's all better than the original. But you absolutely will die, more than likely quite a bit. However checkpoints (shrines) as well as shortcuts are very fairly placed to the point where dying doesn't really feel like you've lost progress.Nioh 2 starts you off with an extremely good character creator which lets you tweak plenty of options, certainly "feels" like all you need is there. You can also edit your yokai form to have different horns and hair. This game to begin with is HARD It's been a while since I've played a game like this and the second boss it throws at you is a skill check and the third boss is an even higher skill check. But if you made it past these two bosses you'll be sufficiently ready to take on most of what's to come. The combat is extremely fun, you have a ridiculous amount of options to approach combat. Every single yokai enemy has a Yokai move you can use and this can be something like farting in your enemies face or burrowing underground and bursting back up after a bosses mad flurry has ended causing big Ki damage(stamina).Bosses this time around feel truly unique and they all have a strategy you need to adapt to. It's a great feeling overcoming these bosses and getting to use their abilities is also super cool. The story is nothing special but it provides a guide. But it is interesting and the encyclopedia provides a good bit of reading if you like to know what's actually going onAs a summary, Nioh 2 is absolutely incredible, it's tough yet rewarding, provides plenty of content, has excellent combat and cool new weapons. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes these kinds of games. I could say so much more like how there's a beefy new game plus mode with a new tier of equipment, blessed weapons, yokai weapons that talk to you and "awaken" to cause shockwaves with attacks. Tons of abilities to play with and so much more.

I’ve put nearly 200 hours into this game so far and i enjoy it a lot.The amount of choice you have on how you want to deal with combat is fantastic. There are multiple weapon types, such as the long reach weapons like spears and odachi’s, and you’ve got more up close and personal weapons like the katana’s and tonfa’s, all with their own sets of attacks and combos. You can also use onmyo (magic such as healing, defence buffs, elemental magic attacks, and more), and also ninjutsu (shurikens, kunai, move silently, add poison to weapons, and their own elemental attacks, etc), which just adds to the already brilliant weapon combat. It isn’t as complex as it sounds, as each weapon follows a certain format,ie high, mid, low attacks, each stance having their own combo ends, button hold attacks, block attacks etc, and the button prompts for these attacks are mostly the same, so you do get into the flow of a new weapon quickly.I stuck with a katana and switch glaive at the start, but as i went to master each one for the platinum trophy, i found myself loving a lot of the weapons, as it wasn’t too difficult to get into the swing with them, but they do still feel distinctive from eachother.I really enjoy teaming up with people and doing the missions coopertatively. Having extra people there with you and shaking up how you’d normally deal with a battle solo is fun. I did most of the game cooperatively, but once i started clearing off the last of my trophies i played solo, as people do like to rush to the end sometimes. Not a problem when i just want to destroy enemies and get loot, but if you’re a competionist then i would advise getting a group together online so you all work to get the collectibles and hidden locations, or just do it solo.Even though i’ve completed the game, i still enjoy jumping on and feeling like a bad ass samurai!I highly recommend if you like your combat a little more punishing, but highly rewarding at the same time, and especially for people who enjoy their coop games!

I was a little hesitant to buy this game, I beat dark soul's 1-3 with all DLC solo and I found it a challenge. I struggled with bloodborne and got bored with sekiro so I was looking for something to change it up a little and I found it in Nioh 2.The game is harder the souls I would say, it knocks you down repeatedly but each time extends a hand to help you back up. There is multiple approaches to the game. It isn't a hack then slash then roll away and die type game like souls or one you can easily beat if you learn how to parry properly. The character creation is one of the best i have seen in a game of this sort. The loot system feels familiar to games like borderlands (not as many weapons ofcourse)farming for better gear, fighting tough fights until you get it is very rewarding.A lot of the games elements like the skills trees and souls cores can be confusing at first, it all just seems like numbers on a screen until you become familiar. The thing that I like the most would be that the game has a campaign with a good plot, it can be a little confusing at times i felt but it is what kept me playing. Seeing my character develop through the game and interacting with other NPC's and seeing how things play out. Your character does not speak but that doesn't exactly ruin anything.Feels like dark souls at heart but a good story to play through and unlike dark souls you actuslly know what is happening in the game. I played all 3 and still couldn't tell you!I can't think of any cons to this game, maybe that the sub-missions are just the maps from the main missions with a weaker end goal but they are still fun to play and just as challenging. If you have hesitations about this game I would say go for it, I had the same doubts after reading multiple reviews online but I am a month into the game and I love it.10/10 from me!

A game which tests your skills to its limits. Trust me you will fall to your death a lot, I probably did more than 50+ times. Enemies are more alert, they have stronger attacking power using their skills but it can be also beneficial to you if you know the mechanics. The new addition to this game is Burst Counters and Soul Cores, two very fitting techniques on how you approach enemies and deal devastating damages if you know how to time your attacks well. The storyline itself, I will not spoil it for anyone but it is an open-linear world, so you will come across submissions etc if you want to gain more loot or Amrita to make yourself more powerful for the story ahead.Furthermore it has an extensive weapon range I believe 9 types in total, so you can go close combat to long range depending on suited playstyle. It's worth noting to experiment every technique as possible, you'll gradually be changing and then settling on your preferred choice of style.Overall, the challenge is rewarding, and certainly you will become triggered a lot. But it is enjoyable because you can get back into action, grinding your way up, selecting/selling/dismantling armour weapons etc, a variety of missions scattered in the Edo era. Satisfaction guaranteed.

Absolutely loved the first one, this new instalment to the series just builds on what was already great. If you going to get through this game you have to immerse yourself with the game mechanics. People who just say the game is too hard are people that just load up the game, grab a weapon and start mashing the attack button and jump all over the place trying to dodge enemy attacks. First, you have to decide what type of player you want to be e.g. a ninjutsu build, omnyo build etc. Stats are huge in this game. You can make some super OP builds that pretty much makes the game too easy. You just have to become more knowledgeable of hidden weapon/armour stats, armour sets and character upgrades.Even if you can't be bothered looking to much into it, and are really struggling, you can just summon help from either benevolent graves which are AI or summon random people online. This game does not deserve 1 star reviews for being 'too hard' as the game provides so much help to keep progressing.

Ok, so to begin, I have to say I joined the Nioh franchise late. By the time I got Nioh 1, the 3 DLC's were already out, and everybody had already completed it. That was my first Souls-esque game and boy did I suffer. Having had days and days of frustration with Nioh 1, I was somewhat concerned for my sanity when they announced its sequel. Of course I had to buy it, its a great franchise. And oh am I glad I did.Nioh 2 keeps much the same, enough to make it still feel like Nioh, but changes just enough to make it feel new. Many of the mission environments now take place in well lit, or even daylight locations, so very few dark dreary dungeons like the first one.The bright scenery allows the full beauty of the Alternate-universe Japan to shine through. As for the story, I wont give spoilers obviously but in my opinion it is a stronger one than the original. I feel like there are a lot more cinematics in this game than the first one.All in all, if you liked Nioh 1, this is a must have.

If you liked the first Nioh and you like Souls or Bloodbourne games, this will be perfect.Combat is in my opinion more like Bloodbourne, less like Souls, as it is quite fast and favours an aggressive playstyle. The game is also quite complex, with tons of stats, equipment, weapons, mechanics, so expect to be overwhelmed at first. In that way it really is a bit of niche game that cannot be compared to other games.Others have commented that it is really difficult, and it is truly a hard game. I find it is still balanced and fair in 75% of cases, but unfortunately there are some instances where it could have been balanced better and is unnecessarily unfair. For example,I died four times straight in the very beginning of the mission "A Way Out", while the rest of the mission is mostly ok. The first time you meet a Karasu Tengu (big raven-like demon) will also make you tear your hair out, as this enemy is simply too strong for the first time you meet it.

If you loved the first one, then you'll love this, as it's probably 95% the same formula. Gorgeous graphic and atmosphere but oh boy is it tough, tough, TOUGH! Good addition is co-op and AI helper. Nioh 2 is more polished than the first, but I prefer the story to the first one, this one seems a bit more weak. I am finding that again I'm spending hours grinding, trying to level up, which to be honest is getting boring. I am finding this one incredibly tough but hey I knew what I signed up for!Generally it's pretty good if you're into these kinds of games, 4 stars only because it's not groundbreaking, it's the same as the first with some refinement, still not up there with the 'Souls'games but definitely worth a go if this is your thing. If not stay away because you'll probably hate it!

Absolutely incredible team ninja fixed nearly everything that was bad in the 1st game and made it a much more polished experience i really love the ability to make your own character because I was never a fan of William from the 1st game. Also the game is hard like incredibly hard like 100000000000% more hard and difficult than the original game or any of the from software games For that matter also games the bosses are insanely tough they are no joke. Over all nioh 2 Is a massive step in the right direction from the 1st game and is a must by for hardcore gamers like myself.

14.7.2020

This game is far more fun than it is difficult. It's a crying shame people don't focus more on the wild fun aspect than the challenging nature.I was initially put off by the Dunkey review (and others) saying it's sadistically hard. It really isn't so bad if you take your time to be stealthy and not wander in like a headless chicken. I've died many times but the idea that I ought to simply waltz through a game is absurdly boring to me. As expected, I gotten far better as the controls grow to become second nature and the game is just an incredible joy.

3.5.2020

Arrived in impeccable condition and exactly when it said it would, on to the game, it is incredibly hard as other reviews have mentioned but I feel this is to be expected as this game advertises itself as such so no it’s not for the weak hearted, otherwise it’s fantastic and pretty much everything which was loved in the original has been expounded greatly only finished the first area so this is not a comprehensive review. I’ll finish by saying if you enjoyed the first your more than likely going to love this one.
