I used to happily spend an appalling amount on Diorshow mascara in the belief that weighing down my lashes with a lumpy formula was the way to achieve that false lash effect. Now I'm older and somewhat wiser I know that good false lashes look natural, so the length and separation you get from your mascara is more important for getting a natural and neater looking `falsie' look. One coat of Max Factor MASTERPIECE mascara is all I need for that day-to-day beautifully separated evenly coated, non-clumpy lash. Because of the perfect separation my lashes look thicker as well as being noticeably longer. When I want more of a va va vroom false eyelash look I use two coats. The magic is in the wand.Admittedly, when I first opened my tube of MASTERPIECE I was very disappointed; the brush is composed of short rubber bristles, which didn't look long enough to evenly distribute the mascara without causing major clumpage. I was wrong. The brush grabs and coats every lash, even those little stragglers in the outer corners of the eye, fanning the lashes out. I've had no problem with flaking or smudging, and the formula is easy to remove at the end of the day.The Volume I get with two coats is as good as Diorshow, the length is better than Telescopic Precision and the rich black colour stands up against Liner Efect. MASTERPIECE in the top 5 mascaras I've ever used.

This mascara from Max Factor comes with a unique wand design that is intended to help fine-tune the application of the mascara onto the lash. The mascara compound is not too heavy so it doesn’t clump a great deal, and it does have good bonding qualities so you can create some extra length. Whilst this mascara also does not claim to be waterproof, it does hold quite well without coming off all over your fingers if you happen to rub your eyes. The one big downside however (and it’s only a downside if this is important to you), is that it doesn’t create any curl in the lashes, probably partly due to the design of the wand - which itself is a bit superfluous as the little detailed end piece did not really make much difference in how it went on.The mascara does not claim to be a curling variety so it’s not going against any claims, but if curling of your lashes is something you like to achieve then this particular product might not meet your needs. If however you are looking for a straight, lengthened and more natural look to your lashes then this is certainly a good option and for a price of c. £9.50 (at time of review) it represents fair value for money considering what you’re getting.

As usual, make up reviews come courtesy of my other half:When it landed I was just expecting your average black packaged mascara, what I actually got completely surprised me. Its in nice gold packaging which in itself makes you feel that you've got a really special mascara within, it has the colour of the rich black on the top against the other mascara's where its normally placed on the bottom which allows you to easily see which colour you've picked out of your makeup bag. When I tried the mascara on I was very pleased with the size as well as the look of the brush for ideal coverage. When I put it on it gave my eyelashes quite a lift, it stayed on all night with no need to reapply and when I did get home,it hadn't gone powdery like a number of others do. Again, overall definitely worth its price and I think that anyone looking for a new mascara and want a glam looking one should go for this, it definitely feels like a more expensive one.

This is a large mascara applicator, which has a flat lid, which means that it stands unaided – it is a very attractive design and looks nice on your dressing table. Saying that, it is a little large for my make up bag, so this is definitely something to use before you go out.The mascara itself doesn’t clump and gives your lashes length and volume. The brush has a small, detailed part at the end of the wand. This does mean that it is easy to touch up any parts you may have missed – although the wand itself is fairly long and I didn’t think it added too much. Still, it does allow you to get into the corners and the brush was easy to use.Overall, this is a good mascara.I can’t see any information about it being waterproof, although mascara’s generally seem to have better staying power these days. I used this on an evening out and did not have to re-apply it and it gave my lashes good definition.

I'm very fussy when it comes to mascara as my eyelashes are one of the best features on my face! I have to say this is by far the best all rounder! It is easy to apply, curls, separates, lengthens, waterproof and moisturising! It really is amazing how they've done all this in one product!! Highly recommended. The only thing I would say is that this is perhaps more your everyday mascara rather than a dramatic look for nighttime, heavier mascara, or smokey eyes. I suppose you could layer up on coats. Personally, if I'm wanting a more dramatic look then I pop a coat of yves saint laurant mascara over the top (this is an awesome night time mascara, and super waterproof, but a bit too dry and 'inflexible'for the day as it's very obvious you are wearing mascara with this one. Beats false eyelashes anyway!) but I digress!....

Love this mascara, the brush manages to find all the little hairs of your eye lashes and coat them and lengthen them to a perfectly, kinda natural, unspidery length. Although you don't get much volume, the length makes up for it. However, my one con is that the bristles of the spooly (may be the wrong spelling, sorry) are very long, so often mascara gets on my eye lids when I'm applying it. This is especially annoying when doing the bottom lashes! All in all, good mascara, great formula.Pros:- Very lengthening- Lasts all day- No crumbling- It is actually water proofCons:- Not very volumising, but its enough- I have oily skin; so on hotter days, theres a little drop out in the outer corner of my eyes- Bristles too long, mascara gets on my lids

I’m just loving this Max Factor mascara for one main reason no eyelash brush now needed as the wand itself works so well. The product itself looks quite neat and stylish a crown shape on the end so easy to find in your make up bag. Another reason for loving this is that it does not seem to make my lashes have a clogged look when applying a few coats to them. No issues with sensitive eyes and comes off easily with baby oil. The effect it gives mine a black coloured mascara, is a really good full one with just two coats.Really seems good value for money and more so on offer. Looks like Max Factor has upped their game and gone for a stylish looking mascara that would appeal to the younger markettoo.

I have tried makeup before, although Rocky Horror Picture Show Transvestism, when I was 15yrs old, isn't the best qualification to review mascara. So I sent it to my mum (who often dresses as a transvestite):"Max Factor definitely make the best mascara in this price range.Masterpiece has an excellent brush with no clumping and the angled end gets to the outer corner lashes well. It's not as rich as 2000 Calorie or Masterpiece Max but is perfect for day wear with a well defined but natural look. I didn't have the waterproof model but it hadn't smudged after a very energetic walk in light rain unlike heavier mascara. I recommend Masterpiece for day and Masterpiece Max for evening."

What I like about this mascara:* good lash separation* good colour - has nice depth of black* the brush is a good shape and size for control* smaller underside brush good for corners (a really good feature)* doesn't smudgeWhat isn't so good:* a second coat looses lash separation and can appear a little clumpy* some flaking by the end of the dayThis product is well packaged, the 'princess' style crown (top) is very attractive, with it's 'diamond cut' styling. It wears very well overall, and is definitely worth a try, as different brushes and formulas suit different people. All in all it's a good mascara, but it won't tempt me away from favourite.

It's immediately obvious this is a quality product, as soon as you see the packaging. It looks classy. As soon as you look at the brush there is an obvious clean look to it with no clumping or too-long bristles to the brush. I was initially stumped by the fact the end of the brush is slightly angled which will take some getting used to; but I can see the point of it, to make it easier to angle to the eyelashes when applying. The mascara went on cleanly and certainly resulted in a lot of length and volume. One picky point, this mascara is on the large size so won't be going on holiday with me.Are my eyes five times more striking? I'm waiting for comments.

I have always been a big fan of Max Factor mascaras. I can always rely on them to give me all that I need, including volume, length and separation. This mascara is no exception. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes statement lashes because it's really volumising and gives the effect of really long, thick, black lashes. It'd be a great night out mascara because of its intensity but I like to have big lashes during the day too.It lasts all day and doesn't flake off or run on me which is a massive bonus. A great new mascara to try if you are looking for something different.

I always struggle with mascara because I have watery eyes and so it smudges. I love Max Factor and I use alot of their products including a mascara which smudges however this one doesn't! I wore it all day and into the evening during hot weather and it lasted really well. Its light and not clumpy so feels natural. The wand is a great design because its slim and allows you to apply the mascara evenly but at the end it has slightly longer "hairs" which enable me to get to the hard to reach lashes in the corner of my eyes.I will be buying this product in the future.

I bought this for my mother, as I personally don't have any need for mascara after my college years listening to KISS and the like. She says its pretty decent, it has an even distribution and adds volume.I think the point is that its not the best on the market, and it shouldn't be bought in that thinking, but for the price its very good value, and it doesn't blot or jam so it scores well there. The bristles are quite thick, and apparently its not the smoothest application, so if you're particularly delicate, you may wish to look elsewhere first.Hope this helps!

I've not used many high-street mascaras as in my line of work (beauty & holistic therapist) you tend to use professional cosmetics, but this one isn't that bad. The brush is fairly good for applying the mascara without ending up with clumpy spidery lashes, and it's quite easy to use it to get to the smaller corner lashes. As the overall effect goes, it's more of a mascara for those wanting to look made-up than those looking for a more natural finish as it does give a bit of a 'wow-factor' to the eyes. For the price this is a pretty good high-street mascara.

The innovative brush on this mascara wand coats each lash evenly, producing a wonderfully rich effect on your lashes, without any "clumps" of mascara. I only had to dip the brush once, which was more than sufficient to coat upper and lower lashes on both eyes - normally I have to dip my usual (quite expensive) mascara several times. I wear contact lenses and have to be very careful what mascara I use, but I had no problems at all with this one. No smudges, lasted all day and looked great - what more could a woman want? I would recommend this to anyone!!
