Great piece of kit that with out your tripod is just a shirt drier.I by no means am a expert with this equipment, but the ball head has worked fantastically. There a two bolts or screws or what ever you call them to allow control over how the ball head moves. One is to simply to loosen up and lock up the ball head and the other is to control the friction on the ballhead allowing you manuver your equipment so that is moves with ease but does not just flop around and with a reasonable light lens you don't even have to worry about locking up every time. Also it has a indent on one of the sides so that your camera can be put in to any angle you desire.Want to make a portrait landscape panorama no problem. My kit is very light the at heaviest it has been with a d60 and a 55-200mm and works perfectly fine. I have no doubt that the ball head could handle a lot more weight its very well made and the release plate is stuck always to the bottom of my camera ready to be popped on to the tripod. It was a bit larger than I expected, but its still fairly small and I have no idea how large other ball heads normally are.In summery great ball head that is very easy to use and light. Very good for enthusiast, but not for professionals who need prices accuracy and constant smooth movement.

Great, strong tripod head. Holds my 7D with flash and extras, with no sag or movement.Really flexible in terms of functional use - very well designed, being quick and easy to position, and very tough. My one comment would be that if you do any video work, it would be worth upgrading to one of the manfrotto heads which have independent pan and tilt. I have needed to use this on a couple of occasions for video (not what it's designed for), and have found it virtually impossible to get a nice clean pan without some tilt (or visa-versa).

This head is very well made and easy to use, certainly for the type of photography I do it is absolutely perfect. I use Micro 4/3 cameras and not a full size DSLR so cannot comment on how it will cope with the heavier weight however I cannot see it being a problem. This is quite a tall head but when combined with my Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 it still fits in the Manfrotto bag.

Just taken delivery of the 496.Its just what I wanted, its strong, secure and very well made. Put my heaviest kit on to test it (D300 / 70-300mm) and gave it a good shake (over the bed, just in case!) and it never budged. I had a 3 way head before this one and I must admit this is much simpler and quicker to set up.I like it a lot.

It's the perfect partner for any good Manfrotto Tripod period. Nothing beats the original. This product is great and very user friendly and holds my Canon Camera very firm. It is easy to adjust and moves very smoothly. I love the quick release system which is a big asset when you want to remove your camera.

Very well built and great item. Friction addition gives me great control on positioning my camera right where I want it instead of the clicking and britleness of plastic screw clamps I have had on tripod heads in the past. is an extremely fluid motion.

Although there is still some movement on the ball head the quality for your money is good .If you require no movement then you will have to pay more .I would recommend this product as it does what it says

I like this product, well made and solid - an extra arm to steer it with would have been good but that's a detail. The locking mechanism is a bit fiddly to begin with but loosens up with use.

good quality but doesn't work as expected. It is obviously not supposed to be turn-able, only to be moved in the slot. The ball/sphere is stuck to the bottom plate so no turning works.

Perfect movement provided on my Manfrotto monopod. Easy to attract plate to camera and then to Ballhead. Friction movement was very impressive.Would thoroughly recommend.

Nice quality unit with a solid feel.Fits perfectly onto my Red Snapper tripod and holds both my spotting scope and Sony DSLR without any issues.Highly recomended.

Excellent quality and build. This head will stick to the position set no matter what. Taking your camera off the head is super easy. Recommend it for landscape

This goes perfectly with my Manfrotto tripod. Together they create a really stable platform for my D7000 and lenses. Not cheap but well worth the outlay.
